What are "Stock and Resources"
and can I use them in my submissions?
Stock images or program resources are materials created with the express intent that they may be used by other artists in their own artwork. Use of these materials are subject to the artist's license, which may or may not require the payment of fees and the documentation of sources used.
We strongly recommend that you credit your resource provider(s).
All artwork submitted to deviantART that uses third party source material must follow the license set by the provider. As the creator of the source material, the provider is able to set specific licenses for different materials and so you must check that you are following the license for each used material.
Failure to comply with the Terms and Conditions or License requirements attached to the stock may result in administrative action being taken against your account.

Art Thieves & What To Do About ThemHey, guys, AikouDesu here. To my surprise, we've had an increase of art thieves lately-- something that unfortunately cannot be prevented nor foreseen. It will become more frequent the bigger ALL-ART-4-EVER gets, so I wanted to post some tips and info about how to deal with art thieves.Art Thieves & What To Do About Them1 year ago in Personal More Like This
What you can and should/shouldn't do about them
1. Do not talk to them.
Art thieves are essentially just your run-of-the-mill internet trolls, and thus they feed on the negative feedback they get from doing this. Sometimes they just want the attention, other times they just want to deliberately upset others for the fun of it. Commenting on their profile or stolen artwork will just add fuel to the fire.
Sometimes art thieves try their hardest to seem like the original artist with the intention of selling the art.
2. DeviantART ignores third-party reports.
In order for DeviantART to do anything about an art th

THE NEXT THREE YEARS OF MY LIFE
I had received a job offer at Microsoft. I guess this could have been one of my first 'big time' jobs, so I was a little ecstatic. It felt like a slow build to get to this point, after numerous indie games and under the table freelance jobs, but finally it had come.
I was working with my now best friend and business partner, Stephan, a suave German who I had met only a year or so prior. He had brought me into the fray, working with several other individuals who will, well, simply be known as individuals for privacy sake.
But yes, finally, I could put a professional company I

Betta Fish Colors First, heres a rundown on the biology behind colors. This will help those who have plans to breed bettas and it also helps explain how colors come about. Like humans, fish color depends on the density of pigment in the skin. People with light skin have less pigment and people with dark skin have more. What makes bettas, and other fish, slightly different is that they have 4 different layers that control different colors. They have to have this because fish have so many different colors (humans are just a varying amount of the same color). The most important aspect in fish is that the top layers are dominant to the bottom layers; if the top most layer is a solid color then you wont see the layers underneath but those layers might still be carrying color.Betta Fish Colors4 years ago in Deviant Events More Like This
1. Iridescent layer (top layer): This layer is known as the blue layer and controls the amount of blue pigment. If there is pigment in this layer then you can have green, blue and opaque white

Happy New YearLet's all start the year off with some stuff I wish I had growing up:Happy New Year1 year ago in Personal More Like This
So I read an article last night on people who are mentally strong and the DO NOTS of being that person.
I took those notes, and listed them, including how I learned to overcome these obstacles. It's a long read, sorry, but I figured this year it's time to open up and share that knowledge that I was once taught by someone I consider my mentor, business partner and bestfriend, Stephan.
1. Don't waste time feeling sorry for yourself - I used to feel this way as a kid. I was a child of divorce, and used it as a crutch when I was younger. I hate a (mentally) abusive step-mom who would constantly take me down. I began to feel that maybe it was true, and I wasn't going to be the person I wanted to be.
You can't think that way. No one likes or enjoys a Debbie Downer. Someone who is constantly on the negative or pining for sympathy. I began to overcome these complications with art or writing. Using tha
The 'Method'I'm often asked if I use a projector, a printed canvas or grid for my paintings. The 'Method'2 years ago in Personal More Like This
To be blunt, the answer is simple 'no'.
I do use several vertical & horizontal lines as the guide to put the object in the right position
only when the canvas is big(over 1m high).
The reason I don't use those technical methods is simple;
I'm an old-fashioned man!
I consider myself more of an old craftsman than an artist in modern-day concept.
For me, practicing and perfecting my craft is as important as creating a good piece of art.
Some people say the process doesn't matter as long as you have a good outcome, but I don't believe that.
I don't feel completely happy with the outcome even though it looks near-perfect if I don't feel that my hard work is involved.
I may work much faster and easier if I use a projector or a printed canvas,
but I'd rather train myself harder and harder to be a more skilled and versatile painter.
After all, you won't need to spend that much money on buying a projector and print
RH Winter Festival - RESULTSRH WINTER FESTIVAL - RESULTSRH Winter Festival - RESULTS2 years ago in Personal More Like This
First of all thank you all for entering this event. Hopefully you had fun. :3 <3 Congrats everyone for your awesome entries and congrats for all the winners. Judging this event was really hard because all the entries were so great! You really surprised me with that good and that many entries.
Of course some of you will feel sad about for their placings, but everyone there can be only one winner. If you feel sad or angry about the results, I am asking you to not write any rant journals about it - you are welcome to tell me about it and I'll try my best to explane why your horse placed as they placed.
Everybody should think about the bright side; you made a great art and your horse got lots of experience. ^^ And everyone is going to get a ribbon from this event. :3 First I was going to give ribbons to only 1st-3rd but then I thought it would be great to give ribbons as in real life here in Finland (1st: blue and white

My LegacyCancer is such a scary word…but I’m okay. I’m at peace with this. I do wish I had a little more time… But really I’ve discovered that with the last weeks of my life, I only have a few goals. I want to spend as much time with friends and family as I can, I want to leave behind as much happiness as I can, and I want to create as much artwork as I can I just want to leave behind a big bubble of love for you guys!My Legacy1 year ago in Personal More Like This
Of course that’s easier said than done, especially since I can’t just come and meet every single one of you and give you all giant hugs! It’s really hard to wrap up everything I’m feeling and send it to you all so that I can try and make your lives a little brighter, lol. But, there’s a solution!
I’m in the process of making a book of my artwork, a little bit of me that I can leave behind! Money made aside from publishing costs is all going to go towards research for cancer, so you’ll all be giving a

800 points = around $10.
400 points = around $5
40 points = ¢50
Do you really want to spend a long amount of time on a drawing only to receive the equivalent of half a dollar?
If you want to share things for cheap or free because you enjoy doing it than by all means do so, but what I'm saying is, don't under value yourself, and for the love of god don't do commissions for 5 or 10 points. You're working for next to nothing if you do that.
What you need to do is find a good place to sell your art so you can sell it at a reasonable fair price that's fair to both you and the buyer. There are places around on dA for this.
Commissions-R-Us say that "A group dedicated to helping people in the search of commissions to be made, allowing them to find somebody to request a commission from deviants at different ways to pay, such as using the Deviantart Points, paypal, etc.
We also have a Priority Commission List for those who are in need of money! Please check them out
