thank you"there'll be days like this," my mama said, when you open your hands to catch and wind up with only blisters and bruises, when you step out of the phone booth and try to fly but the very people you want to save, are the ones standing on your cape, when your boots with fill with rain and you'll be up to your knees in disappointment but those are the very days you have all the more reason to say, "thank you." because there is nothing more beautiful than the way the ocean refuses to stop kissing the shore line, no matter how many times it is sent away."thank you2 years ago in Personal More Like This
things are different. they're happening. they're walking towards me and aren't strangling me the way they used to.
these are the facts:
- I can't save everyone, no matter how much I try or how much it kills me.
- I am never, ever going to give up on myself.
- I can make a difference; it'll show where it matters.
- the growth is so apparent now. it may not be getting better but it is changing. it's up to me what course th

REMINDER: Photomanip Tutorial Challenge!Welcome to our official tutorial challenge!REMINDER: Photomanip Tutorial Challenge!3 years ago in Deviant Events More Like This
Another tutorial challenge? YES! Keep reading!
Part of "illumination" is learning, expanding our horizons, and helping others learn as well. So, this time we are not going to USE tutorials. Rather, we are going to MAKE them.
What you have to do
Your job is as follows:
Take a critical look at your gallery. What are your strengths as an artist? What are you really good at doing? Are you known for your light and shadow? Color use? "Glow" effects? Do you do skin well? Can you paint really well? Are you a master of masks? What do people compliment you on?
Create a detailed tutorial, with examples, of how you achieve this effect or do this technique. It does not have to involve the creation of a new deviation. You can explain how you did this effect in an old deviation or just with stock without making it a full deviation.

Site Update: Update to the Twitter WidgetIn our continuous effort to improve the deviantART experience, we're publishing weekly Site Updates to keep members informed and to gather feedback. Below is a list of recent changes to the site, bug fixes, and feedback that was brought up by members in the last Site Update.Site Update: Update to the Twitter Widget2 years ago in DeviantArt Announcements More Like This
Updates to the Twitter Widget
Due to Twitter's updated API and the removal of their first API, which was the original foundation for deviantART's Twitter Widget, the Twitter Widget for Profile Pages has been updated to match Twitter branding. The widget now displays retweets with the icon of the person you've retweeted, and images can be shown in-line, so that deviants don't have to click through to see images you're sharing.
To install the Twitter widget,
Being Critical =/= HateLooks like I need to remind people about this again, as yesterday I got several comments in a row from people who assumed that me being critical about something automatically translated into me outright hating it. I don't know how to stress this enough but that's not the case... You can be critical of stuff you like and not hate it. I don't know why our culture tries so hard to force everything into such black and white terms but come on guys, really... being critical and smart about what you love doesn't mean you hate it.Being Critical =/= Hate2 years ago in Personal More Like This
Take the Dragon's Crown comic, for example, in which I was critical of the Sorceress's design. From that someone hypothesized that I must HATE the game, and that's farthest from the truth. I know full well that Vanillaware is an amazing studio and they do fantastic work. One of my favorite games of theirs is Muramasa the Demon Blade. Dragon's Crown has scored really highly and it's most definitely worth your money to buy/download it if you can. BUT... I can still be

Watchers Feature 1Beyond 30K page views and 500 watchers… it’s about time I said thank you!Watchers Feature 11 year ago in Art Features More Like This
It was a bit of a pickle figuring out how to go about this, but after some thought I came up with the following plan:
I’ll start with you who have been watching me the longest and move forward
featuring 20 of you in every journal
I will limit myself to photos (since I honestly haven’t a handle on other art forms on deviantArt)
with one deviation each … if you don’t have any deviations, then please accept my thanks anyway
and try to keep a weekly schedule
interspersed with other journals
… if I keep at it, and taking into account other journals and laziness, I’ll be done within a year… hopefully.
So here we go
thank you Gwen
thank you Jenny
Artist for game Legend of the CryptidsHi guys, I hope you're all doing fineArtist for game Legend of the Cryptids2 years ago in Personal More Like This
As you may have noticed (or not yet) I am now part of artists' roster of Applibot, Inc (Japan). They hired me two months ago to create cards for online/phone game Legend of the Cryptids and since then I worked lots !
I feel really honoured for they work with real masters of digital painting, and I feel like a little bee compared to them ! Anyway, here is the first set of artworks I created for them :
I am really excited about this new and challenging collaboration, and I hope you'll also like the upcoming cards I'll create ! Anyone here playing the game ?

Issue No. 2|Archives
If the severely acne-scarred face and coarse exterior brought on by his alcoholic and depressed life was the book cover of his being, then Charles was the ultimate book that could not be judged by its cover.
The exquisite collection that was this everyman artist’s art consisted of thousands of poems, hundreds of short stories and six novels—mostly all wrenchingly autobiographical, mostly all about moments of epiphany and grace in an otherwise miserable and unhappy existence. The perfect explication of the common man's deepest truth; it's not easy to be here.
Unvarnished and brutal blunt force trauma underlined with hope, beauty, longing, and love.
Therein lies the power of his poet

Make it Glow: A Photoshop TutorialThis is also a rebloggable Tumblr Post!Make it Glow: A Photoshop Tutorial3 years ago in Personal More Like This
A lot of people were asking me how I did the glowing/neon light effects on my last drawing. It's actually extremely easy, and it looks great with shapes or text.
The key to this effect is contrast. Your background and overall image must be pretty dark for it to be effective. You know how you can't see a flashlight in broad daylight? The same applies here.
Step one, make a new document, and invert the default black background (command + i) or manually fill it with black. Then make A NEW LAYER. This is the layer containing the colors you want to glow.
Now duplicate the layer you just made with the colors. Set the layer style to "screen." Screen applies the layer to make everything below it lighter. (It's the opposite of the "Multiply" setting.)
Now apply a "Gaussian Blur" fi

Warning: Mature content. The song deals with a sensitive subject. A painful past between Greece and Turkey. This post is not subject to controversy. The dead are dead. The song is haunting, dark - and for me, that's all. And enough. Racist or xenophobic comments will be blocked without warning. From any side. For example : I'm french. If, one day, I post a song which deals between a painful past between France and Germany, it will be for the power of the song, not against moderns germans, because we are brothers and sisters now. I hope I'm very clear, especially if you watch this journal and don't know me (my regular friends on DA, greek, turkish, etc. don't need this warning - they know me). All that matters now is PEACE.

Saying no, does not mean that you are playing hard to get.
People are very focused on how women are the victims of sexual assault. In reality it can be anyone, regardless of your age, gender, sexuality, nationality, ethnicity, religion, appearance, disability... Anyone can become a target.
☮ ☛ ☮ ☮ ☚ ☮
Often people are too afraid to fight back, and self preservation kicks in. What is happening is terrible, but what happens if they resist could be even worse.
The majority of these assaults are carried out by someone who the victim knows and trusts. People often do not believe, blame the victim, or completely deny that anything has happened. Dealing with a betrayal like that is h
Project Educate - Stencilling lessons: MultilayersThe art of producing a multilayered stencil is one which can take a very lengthy amount of time. The vast majority of which is the time spent of cutting. This journal covers the production of the print outs which are then cut out and placed to be painted. I myself do use a computer to create the various layers. There is a great debate between many artists over whether the use of the computer takes a lot out of the creative process. I would argue in favour of that if one is simply using a photoshop filter to create a stencil. The method I will be outlining below is pretty much what that filter does; But it still leaves a lot of the decision process to the artist themselves. The program I use is gimp which is a piece of freeware which is fairly easy to use and importantly... FreeProject Educate - Stencilling lessons: Multilayers3 years ago in Personal More Like This

'Why Are We Even Talking About This?'I get that phrase a lot, that and "over react much?" whenever I bring up ANY issue, be it from a video game, politics, or whatever. There seems to be a lot of people who just don't wanna talk about anything at all, and would much rather these discussions just not exist so they can get on with their lives.'Why Are We Even Talking About This?'2 years ago in Personal More Like This
You'll be unsurprised to learn that I don't agree with that wisdom. In my books, if you don't do anything, nothing is going to happen. If there's an injustice in the world somewhere and you stay silent, that injustice isn't going to fix itself. It will just keep happening. That, my friends, is complacency.
Then of course there are those people who don't believe that the world will ever change, therefor there's no reason to try, and actively try to stop anyone who dares to stand up for something. I can't begin to describe how annoying that mindset is to me. It's almost sadistic in it's very nature, by actively trying to stop people from making the world a better place by being dismissi

I just got my first own house, and I'm currently in the process of moving there.
It's quite a mess at the moment. Moving boxes all over the place. There are a lot of things to take care of. And I don't even have a decent internet connection.
But in the end, I'm certainly looking forward to having my own place to work on my art and stuff.
So it's gonna take me a while until I'm up and running again.
In the meanwhile. Enjoy some epic music:
Update november 4th, 2013:
Well... I just got the key recently. So I can begin moving in. There's still a lot of stuff that I need to take care of. Buying machines, furniture, and that kind of stuff. But it's slowly moving forward. I'm expecting to be in my new house in a week or 2, or maybe 3. And I hope to have internet by then.
See you around~!
