EMPOWERED cosplay, now with painted-on latex! At the Toronto Comic Arts Festival last weekend, ace photographer (and karaoke-er*) Paul Hillier was kind enough to drop off some prints of a seriously badass Empowered cosplay shoot he had arranged. He took the concept of Emp cosplay to a whole 'nother level, via an exciting new frontier in costuming: painted-on latex! Not only is this arguably the ideal cosplay medium to approximate Emp's unearthly supersuit, it's definitely the best medium to depict the tearing of the suit's membrane (as seen in a photo emulating an Empowered cover, complete with logo).EMPOWERED cosplay, now with painted-on latex!3 years ago in Personal More Like This

Google Maps had a Wikipedia layer that brought up links to Wikipedia articles connected to the region you were surveying. It was a brilliant way to learn about locations you have not yet visited, or to delve into an area's history.
A week or so ago, and apparently with no warning, Google removed this function and have now been flooded with complaints.
Is it just me or are big name companies growing increasingly incapable of doing ANYTHING right?
No Excuses: Being a ProfessionalToday's "No Excuses" Is a little different. It's less about an excuse that I've been told and more of a misconception people have.No Excuses: Being a Professional2 years ago in Personal More Like This
Last week I did a "Tutorial Tuesday" on becoming a professional. You can read the post yourself, but in a nutshell it's about getting paid for the artwork you create for other people. After I posted it I received several questions and I realized many of you have a terrible misconception as to what it means to be a professional. So I figured I'd use today to clear this stuff up.
First and foremost, I'm a very strong believer that you should always be compensated for the work you do. In your career, especially early in your career, you'll be asked to do alot of work for free. They'll be alot of excuses as to why you don't deserve to be paid: "You don't have enough experience," "You're too expensive," "Artists are a dime a dozen, if you won't

Legend of Korra: Costume Design! One of the neat things about being the lead designer of a show like Young Justice is getting to interact with the fans through sites like this one, seeing the awesome fan art you guys do is a big inspiration for myself and a lot of the other artists and writers on the show. It really keeps us motivated knowing that you guys and girls appreciate the characters and stories we are creating. Along with great art my other favorite aspect of fandom, and easily the most hardcore representation of it, is the cosplayers and their dedication to show accurate costumes. So with SDCC right around the corner I thought I would share a little something interesting with all you Legend of Korra fans out there, as well as cosplayers in general. Last year at around this time my good buddy, Joaquim http://2-cents.deviantart.com/, who is a co-executive producer on Korra, asked my wife, she is a clothing designer by trade, to create a show accurate Korra outfit to be worn by the official model representing tLegend of Korra: Costume Design!2 years ago in Personal More Like This

Sailor Moon CRYSTAL 2014Finally they released the designs of the characters : http://sailormoon-official.com/animation/characters/moon.phpSailor Moon CRYSTAL 20148 months ago in Personal More Like This
I see a lot of people complaining that their limbs are too long and thin. The anime will follow Naoko's art style closer than the old anime....and Naoko's style is defined by long and thin limbs among others.
Sailor Moon: I love that they changed the yellow hair to a milder color. The old shade of yellow was very hard to the eyes. I love how her hair is curled at the tips and how they are many strands of hair and it doesn't look like a big chunk of hair. The only thing I dislike is the placement of the odangos. It makes her head look weird from certain angles. They changed the brooch, earrings and neck piece a little bit.
Sailor Mercury: She looks very pretty. I love her new look. Her senshi costume has no shoulder pads.
Sailor Mars: They changed her earrings into elongated stars. I like how her hair is a deep purple and not black with purple highlights.

Every year on my birthday, I think about positive changes I want to make in my life. I’m proud to say that I’ve made a lot of progress, but there’s something that’s been eluding me for a very long time.
You see, I’ve struggled with my weight my entire life. When I was a child, it was to free myself from the stigma of being the “chubby kid.” As I grew up and began to accept myself, it became more of an issue of vanity. And as I outgrew that mindset, the reality of health problems caused by my weight began to set in. I’ve tried just about everything to get it under control for the last 15 years. It’s been an uphill battle that only got more difficult when I injured my back (another bi-product of my weight issues) in 2011. Not gonna lie…in recent months, I had just about given up and resigned myself to concentrating on my art for as long as I could before becoming another victim of

heres a handy but totally disorganised load of information on the subject

some of them are quite old and may not exist anymore but there are so many i cannot be bothered sorting them out

Panelling and Planning
-Drawing : Panels, shading, angles, techniques, and so forth:
1) Plan your comic out carefully first- just do a few scribbles on what is happening in your comic (are they talking? Any action?)
2) If you're not "good" at drawing people/animals/whatever, get a book on anatomy, watch anime/read manga to get a fair idea on what things should look like- PRACTICE MAKES PERFECT.
3) Camera angles: watch tv/movies/read manga to see how the camera is featured: Is it close-up? Birds eye view? Front on?
-Drawing : Panels, shading, angels, techniques, and so forth
Time and Pacing
The smaller the gutter, the shorter amount of time is taken up

IT'S CAPALDI!!!What can I say? I'm over the moon about the casting of the 12th Doctor. As watchers might know, ginger acting powerhouse Ruth Wilson was my first pick, but once the rumors started that Peter Capaldi was in the running (despite his previous appearances in TORCHWOOD and WHO), and the announcement that Wilson was already doing a new series for Showtime, he shot to the top of my list. Even without Whoniverse connections, he was a fave of mine b/c of THE THICK OF IT and, of all things, his recurring role as Sid's dad on SKINS (yes, I watched SKINS- deal with it). He's also an old school Whovian. Like Tennant, he's "one of us", living out a childhood dream. That's ridiculously cool. The guy even has a freakin' Oscar, making him the first Doctor to hold that distinction (look it up).IT'S CAPALDI!!!1 year ago in Personal More Like This

No Excuses: "I don't have enough time"Now I've heard the excuse plenty of times: "I'd like to, but i just don't have time to do it." And I'd like to discount this as a cut and dry excuse like I have in the past with other excuses, but its not that simple here. Where inadequate software, and "I'm not good enough" could easily be overcome with some discipline and dedication, "Not enough time" has some merit to it.No Excuses: "I don't have enough time"3 years ago in Personal More Like This
The problem is, not matter what you do you're still limited to 24 hours a day. And no matter what, there are still several things in the day that take up your time and there is no way around it. Some of those things are obvious like sleeping and eating. Most of you (if not all of you) have full time jobs, or go to school full time. Or maybe go to school part time, and work the other part time. There are even things that take up your time that you don't even think about, like chores, exercise, family obligations. All of these cut into your limited 24 hours a

Yenny's future life...Hey Yenny Fans!Yenny's future life...8 months ago in Personal More Like This
Dave has made a very interesting post on Yenny's facebook group concerning his thoughts on making significant changes for the direction of the Yenny series.
The post reads...
"At some point in thinking of re-writing Yenny, I thought of them as young adults. They move from the beach to the city in order to finish their studies and entering the world of work. Tomato gave birth to her baby Tomatito and works as a trainer for single moms., Margot runs her mother's fashion magazine and Yenny finds work at a local gym...although she still jumps from odd jobs to more odd jobs....
They live in the same apartment and deal with adulthood...something very difficult to accept to still young minded Yenny whose innocence battles against the cold reality of the city."
Here is the picture that accompanied the post showing Yenny, her friendly rival Margot, Yenny's best friend Tomato, and her newborn baby Tomatito... https://scontent-a-dfw.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-prn1/t1.0-9/10247384

I've heard you petitions and comments and you guys have a point. I never considered FB to be an art site, more that i liked how I could post impromptu pics that i take on a regular basis. I've been so busy as of late with my work that i have nothing really i can show you except scribbles and the like. For this reason i thought it would be more entertaining if you saw more of my daily life pics.
But now it seems that you are all patient enough to wait for me to post stuff and for that i thank you! I will Make an effort to post more stuff here so you guys can see, I don't want to seclude myself more!

No Excuses: I'm not Talented EnoughSo when people come to me and say "Oh I can't do what you do. I'm not talented enough." they're usually using the definition of talent that means "a special natural ability or aptitude." Basically they're telling me they weren't born with the natural ability to draw so they just assume it's something they can never do.No Excuses: I'm not Talented Enough1 year ago in Personal More Like This
Boy is that a lame excuse. Who on this earth is born able to draw? No one is born able to walk and talk, why would drawing be different than that? These are things we have to learn. If everything is learned then the idea of natural talent is a complete myth. No one is born able to draw better than anyone else. So it's completely absurd to think that if you weren't born with the "art gene" your art career is screwed.
"But Shono," someone is arguing right now. "How do you explain young kids who are amazing artists. No one taught those kids how to draw, so they had to be born with that natural talent right?" Wel

Happy Deathday to me.Happy Deathday to me.1 year ago in Personal More Like This
On January 4th 2010 I was seriously injured in a hit and run accident. Both of my legs were broken, my left arm snapped, most of the fingers in my left hand broken, a damaged verterbrae in my neck, my pelvis cracked in two, and a little brain damage.
On that day, I felt quite miserable about myself. I had lost my home twice, as well as two jobs. I lived with my Aunt who daily complained of my presance of me being a burden on her and her household, regardless to the fact that I used the little money I earned from my job as a security officer to contribute to the household. She wanted me to go live in a homeless shelter.
For weeks, I felt ashamed over the fact that I had to depend on others, yet I was still a burden on them. The thought that if I were to die, not only would everyone be better off, but I would have finaly done something right. I'd be one less mouth to feed, one less person taking up space in their homes, one less incompent foreigner who doesn't know how things work

But hang on, you'd say "but you've done commissions and opening table in cons those are kinda jobs too right?"
Well it's kinda different and I'll tell you why.
As I'm starting to babycrawl into "professional life", there is one thing that I keep being asked about whenever I present stuffs to people.
"How long did it took you to make?"
At first I thought it was just a random curiosity, or for people to feel better because they can probably do it faster than I did.
Well, yesterday I did a job. Not really a job, it was just my teacher in the Masters course asking if there's any student willing to help him with his work. Seeing that I'm the only one with enough proficiency of the program (AfterEffects), I volunteered. It wasn't drawing, it wasn't animating. I got a graphic provided and all I did was doing a very simple masking task and all I needed was time and patience.
Being a self-slaver I am, I got it done in a day. Teacher was satisfied, th
