BrushesThis is somehow a continuation of the previous journal with a listing of tutorials I use.Brushes4 years ago in Personal More Like This
People ask me about what brushes do I use even more often than about me making tutorials. Unfortunately here I might help only Photoshop users as I've never used SAI or GIMP and my Corel Painter worked so unbelievably slow on my machine that recently I've simply uninstalled it.
To be honest, the brush I use most often is a simple round brush with tablet pressure controlling the opacity.
With that baby I paint almost everything starting from under-painting and ending on medium details. Yet, there are all sorts of different brushes I use for other things - hair, texturing, backgrounds, foliage and so on. Here are a few sets I have installed. I do not use every single brush from them and I've deleted most of them right after installation... sometimes leaving as much as 1-5 brushes from a set of 30. You can get rid of unwanted brushes by either using the preset manager in the brush menu panel or by cl
The Turtles TrailerI am absolutely delighted with it. It’s everything I hoped it would be: Terrible. The Turtles Trailer1 year ago in Personal More Like This
Had it looked GOOD, there would have been this nagging feeling that I’d be missing out on something if I stuck to my vow of never again watching another Michael Bay movie. I have fond childhood memories of the Turtles, so I may have weakened. But because it looks like, well, a Michael Bay movie, that feeling simply isn’t there. I have no desire, at all, to pay for or sit through that film.
Transformers 3 was the last chance I was willing to give. I thought “There’s no way it could actually be WORSE than Transformers 2. I’ll give it a shot”.
Somehow…. it was.
That was it. That was the breaking point. No more Bay. EVERYTHING he goes near is pure effluent, and all the evidence you need of how toxic a film Turtles is going to be is in that trailer.
Obviously, we don’t know what the plot is at this point, but it’s a

now that i have your attention .. ahem XD
i felt the need to brag!
i have finally completed last issue of wildfire, just yesterday, which is my first ever full art project that ever got published!!
so hopefully the updates here will be a little more frequent (that is until my next project XD)
and with more experience i will be able to manage my time a bit better, (and become faster and better at drawing.)
Currently whenever i finish a project i don't even take a break, i immediately switch to doing bloodstain, because i don't know how much time i will have until the next project (it could be 2 weeks or 2 days from one comic to the other)
so yeah XD no break for me XD

The Word of KurtzI was checking the "links" section of my website, just to make sure everything was still working as I hadn't actually clicked on anything there for a while, and I found myself on the PVP website. The Word of Kurtz3 years ago in Personal More Like This
"A while" was obviously "a few years". I barely recognised the strip!
Anyway; I'm not writing this to bitch about hating change (I'll save that and put it into Sequential Art), I'm writing this to relay a very good point the good Mr Kurtz made in the PVP blog:
"Everyone is kind of freaking out right now because of the Gary Friedrich case. Long story short, the guy who created Ghost Rider in 1972 sued Marvel, claiming that they never filed a copyright for his work and therefore he still owns Ghost Rider. Courts said "sit down before you fall down" and in addition slapped the guy with a $17,000 fine for selling tee shirts and posters featuring Mike Ploog Ghost Rider art at conventions.
People are considering this a warning salvo at artists who do sketches of Marvel and DC owned characters at

I was walking around and traveling across Canada from the Yukon Territories to New Brunswick to find her the best present ever until I found it in Nunavut and decided it would help her and someone else to. I brought back the present to Ottawa, checking every once in a while to see if it's okey and I brought it up with me to see Maddie.
Once I reached her room I knocked, Amelia can to

Yes, we're back on the gun-debate-thing. And this time the pro-gun crowd are pissing me off because they've set in motion a chain of events that will stifle the potentially fabulous ability to transfer what you create on your computer into the real world.
The man behind it harps on about liberty being his motivation for doing it.
Liberty has to be tempered with responsibility, otherwise you just have anarchy. Using new technology to build a gun doesn't make you a champion for freedom, it makes you an attention seeking moron who gives the powers-that-be REASON to restrict it. They will now do everything the can to prevent the proliferation of the technology. They

I've missed you all and apologize for the next chapter's delay, but this trip was much needed. I couldn't focus anymore. I have book six completed, yet couldn't bring myself to post a chapter. I needed a reboot in life.
I spent the day hiking in the mountains, enjoying the views and doing my best to reflect. As hard as I tried to think on my life, I couldn't. In fact, I found myself very emotional. Sitting there alone in the woods brought tears to my eyes. This was the first lesson I'd like to share.
Guys, you are no less of a man for crying. Regardless of what society deems as acceptable, DON'T BUY INTO IT. You are allowed to breakdown and cry. You are allowed to FEEL. Empathy is not a weakness, it means you are human. You are not alone. Cry. Free yourself of bottled up pain.
Girls, a man has every right to cry. It does not make him wimpy, wussy, or pathetic. It shows that he admits his emotion. I know most of you under

Hey everyone. Hope you're all doing great.
I should've known something was wrong. Something was up....I wasn't watching the signs. After a month, I thought Rachel and I were just fine. We loved fantasy, gaming, cosplay, and found each other attractive. But alas....I have once again been cheated on. This time, so obvious it was ridiculous. Why?...I don't know nor do I care. I hope she finds happiness wherever she goes.
This morning I went hiking. No technology whatsoever. For some reason, this breakup hit me harder than usual. After my summer I thought Rachel might be my guide to happiness. That was my first mistake.
HEED THIS WARNING: YOU are your only guide to happiness. Others can make you happy, but it originates with you. Do not give anyone else the entitlement of 'the key to your happiness'. Because they are not. ONLY YOU are the key. Remember that.
Patreon SketchbookAfter much fretting over the potential ramifications of making use of the Patreon service, I have decided: f**k it. I'm going ahead with my plans.Patreon Sketchbook3 months ago in Personal More Like This
Might be a mistake, but I'll cross that bridge when I come to it.....and then jump off to make a daring river-escape should things go south.
Assuming I haven't ballsed anything up (I'm new to using Patreon), my page can now be found here: https://www.patreon.com/jollyjack
Content is much the same as you'd find in the "Beasts and Babes sketchbooks" that have appeared in the Apsara Portfolio previously, so if you've no interest in that kind of material, save your time and coin and don't bother with it.
I'll be adding a new sketch roughly every day, along with sneak peeks at new Apsara comics that I'm working on.
Nothing will be 100% exclusive to Patreon, it will just show up there first. Eventually all content will become available via the channels I usually use, so don't get in a twist if you don't want to use that service.

Last chicken in Sainsbury's“Dirty Bird”, a fried chicken vendor in Wales, has been forced to defend its choice in logo:Last chicken in Sainsbury's9 months ago in Personal More Like This
Some rather prudish individuals have complained that it looks a mite dubious, while the owner of Dirty Bird has insisted that people are seeing what they want to see, and not what was intended.
It is claimed that the logo is simply the lower case initials of the company placed back to back in order to form the neck and wings of a cockerel.
Seeing one of Dirty Bird’s recent promotional images, however; one might be given cause to doubt their professed innocence.
And people ask why I like living on this spiteful little island
Bomango ze Tango!I'm going to get ahead of this right now and say that this might not be a riveting read for folks. Bad advertising, I know, but I feel it's necessary to preface this by being realistic. I'm not uber-famous, my characters aren't known far and wide, and for Pete's sake, I don't even have a proper webcomic or series to speak of. But, I've been asked numerous questions enough that it might be useful to have a FAQ essay of sorts to clear the air a bit.Bomango ze Tango!2 years ago in Personal More Like This
So here goes...a history of "Bomango", as best I can recall...
ORIGIN! (in real life)(image circa way the hell back when i was still spelling it GoGo BoManGo)
"Bomango" (as it's come to be known) came about maybe around 2004 or thereabouts...shoot, maybe 2003, which makes it a decade old already...sheesh. Anyway, the earliest drawings of "Gogo" were sketchbook illustrations of a big-eyed girl in a long jacket. Not anime-style big eyes, mind you...big, droopy, heavily-lined eyes, wi
Censoring the InternetA few weeks ago I made mention of feminist Anita Sarkeesian who started a kickstarter for a web series called "Tropes Vs Women" specifically centered around how women are portrayed in video games.Censoring the Internet3 years ago in Personal More Like This
Despite the fact that kickstarters are payed for by people who've made the decision they want to contribute their money to the project, Anita came under attack from gamers for "scamming" audiences when her fund far exceeded the target goal. Just this past week it's come out that a 25 year old man from Sault Ste Marie, Ontario, Canada, created a video game where the object is to punch the crap out of Anita. Wounds, bruises, and blood gush out the more you beat her up in this virtual game, and it's drawn some widespread attention.
Whether you agree with her viewpoint is not the issue, it's the fact that this retaliation is just "wrong" on so many levels. Do these people realize that what they're doing is shooting themselves in the foot? Making a video game where you beat up someone who's making
Mature themes in American AnimationWhen I first discovered Anime, my mind was blown. Here were Japanese animations being made which told adult stories with sex, violence, and all sorts of things I'd never seen before done in American films. As a teenager the constant pandering to children and the reluctance to accept more mature themes and ideas in American animated films pissed me off. Why can't american cartoons be taken more seriously and have stuff for adults too outside of South Park and The Simpsons?Mature themes in American Animation3 years ago in Personal More Like This
In 1998 Stephen Spielberg tried to change that. After having a successful run of kids cartoons (Tiny Toons, Animaniacs, Pink and the Brain, etc), he took it a step further by giving us a PRIME TIME cartoon series aimed at adults. It was called "Invasion America." It was a sci-fi epic, featured a slew of big name actors including Leonard Nimoy, and featured more adult oriented themes such as sex, violence, and swearing!
It sucked and was a resounding failure.
The epic plot they were trying to weave would never be compl
