Still the Same Girl (Revised)The Abyss was singing her to Its bedside tonight, unfolding black sheets into soft and smoky wisps. Let go, It hummed. You gave so much already. Come rest, Nami. There’s no sense in fighting it any longer.
A few steps away from Bell-mère's grave, Nami’s body stood in the moon’s pale and unflattering glow. Her mind, however, wandered elsewhere, opening fragile memories she swore she’d never touch again.
She drew in a sharp, cold breath and hung her head low. Nami was as worn as an old sail flapping limply on the high seas. Those fierce winds, once filling her with joy, now seeped through holes that had been torn through her spirit. Many had knifed Nami, but none so much as her sister. Nojiko’s last words weaved in and out of her head: “You're still the same girl.”
Nojiko. She couldn't have been more wrong than a rock with an eye patch. That so-called “girl" had perished with her mother, Bell-mère.
Art History - Anthro Anthro Art - The BeginningArt History - Anthro4 years ago in Art Features More Like This
Anthropomorphism is the attribution of human characteristics and qualities to non-human beings, objects, natural, or supernatural phenomena. Gods, animals, the forces of nature, and unseen or unknown authors of chance are frequent subjects of anthropomorphosis. The term comes from two Greek words, άνθρωπος (anthrōpos), meaning "human," and μορφή (morphē), meaning "shape" or "form." The suffix "-ism" originates from the morpheme "-isma" in the Greek language. .
The actual 'date' when Anthropomorphic art came to light isn't well documented so we can only go off what has been left behind for us to observe. This is most noted in literature, sculptures and fables.
From the beginnings of human behavioral modernity in the Upper Paleolithic, about 40,000 years ago, examples of zoomorphic (animal-shaped) works of art occur th

The unique thing about Anthro art is that it can take different shapes, sizes, and forms. The only limitation is your imagination. One of the most common misconceptions for Anthro art is that people generally associate it with "Furry" art because most of Anthro art is enveloped around furry animals that look like humans ( Below the very talented Katmomma has written up a quick guide to the differences between "Furry" and "Anthro"). Lions, Tigers, Bears and WereWolves. But contrary to popular belief, Anthro art can range from animals to toasters that doesn't involve fur at all! In my previous post about Anthro art, I explained what Anthropomorphic was. Anthro art is based on the very definition below:
Anthropomorphic: Ascribing human form or attributes to a being or thing not human, especially to a deity.
There is no "right" or "wrong" way to draw or portray Anthro art because like fantasy art, they do

Digital Illustration TutorialI made this tutorial back in 2010 as a pitch for a project that never took off. I finally decided I should just bundle it up as a PDF and upload it for anyone who wants to see it. It's old and the image quality isn't super great, but it covers my process from idea creation, composition, adding color, all the way to the final draft, and there might be something useful in there for some of you.Digital Illustration Tutorial4 years ago in Personal More Like This

Together with some others we could name a lot more.
How about you? anything like this ever happened to you?
Things you shouldn't say to an artist.
1 Can you do the artwork for this job for free? It will be a good promotional piece for you. Get you some word to mouth advertising.
2 Mom Look! That painting is just like that picture you downloaded from the internet and got framed for the living room.
3 Wow. You charge THAT much? You make it look so easy.
4 If you don't make it so detailed... Just scribble something down... Can I get it cheaper?
5 If you use that piece you already got and change it a little, can I get it cheaper? You already have done most of it.
6 I can use a Photoshop filter to do that exact same thing.
7 You are lucky... you don't have to work, you just have to sit and paint all day.
100TC gets interactiveHey guys, new feature for you!100TC gets interactive4 years ago in Personal More Like This
A while ago dragonee contacted the group about an application he had made, offering it up for our use. The simple app opens in your browser and lets you pick a theme from whichever variation you're doing.
In Michals words, right now no login is required, the application remembers your current theme even if you close your browser window, so it's really easy to use.
Using this app is such an easy way to keep a simple record of your progress of 100TC, here's how it works:
This is the main page you'll see when you first use it, hit the "get my first theme" button.
Once you've completed the theme just hit the "OK, completed" button to get your next theme.
You'll notice in the top left corner there's a handy counter to tell you how many out of 100 you've done and how many you have left. Which variation you're working on is also displayed below and to the right of the theme.

Anonymous Art Trade Project!Ok, so what's the best part about art?Anonymous Art Trade Project!4 years ago in Deviant Events More Like This
I dunno about you but I like sharing things.
And the best thing about post (well mail, to you silly americans and such. it's post.) is recieving something. I LOVE getting letters and parcels and things. The annoying thing is that nowadays you have to pay for something and physically order something to get the "WHEE I HAVE THINGS!" feeling. (Ok, maybe I'm the only one who actually gets THAT excited, but recieving gifts is always nice.)
So, whats the deal?
Art trades, Anonymous art trades.
You give us an address, but not your name. and you'll receive an address in return to post your gift art to. Make something nice, send it with love. And wait patiently by the letterbox in your tent with your box of cookies for your very own random deviant to send you your lovely artwork to frame and put in pride of place on your wall and love it forever!!
There are some rules. Obviously.
Send a note titled "Anonymous Art" to :devPirateLo

First of all, I have to say how proud I am of all of you! You have done great in helping me collect the 63,600 points needed to give out 100 Premium Memberships!
For those of you who do not know, I, winehaus am collecting 63,600 points in order to give 100 3-month premium memberships to other deviants this holiday season. The purpose is for you and other deviants to donate and spread the word and holiday cheer!
Now I will be giving you all an update on what's going on!
We are over 26,000 points in to the project which is amazing! However, it is not enough.
I know what you're thinking. "It's just September!" but if you think about it, that means 3 months until December, which really is not a lot.
Right now we need 36,882 points to complete the project. It may sound like a lot but we can get there with a simple technique.

How to say this... Recently I was browsing Youtube to discover and listen to some new songs (I always need music when I draw ). I've already known Globus with songs like "A thousand deaths" or "Preliator" for example. But I've just discovered "One Truth". And I'm speechless... And I cried when listemening the very first piano notes... This song is just... sublim! I can't even find my words to express all the feelings it brings...
If you want to share this experience: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AmN5pGFNEMk&feature=related

Timing fucking matters.Time does a lot of things, it makes you older, it gets you to places, it never stops going forward. However you control when and how you use it!Timing fucking matters.1 year ago in Personal More Like This
Everyone makes choices on a daily bases, most of them are actually done with your auto-pilot function out of habit.
Most people usually sit in the same spot on the couch, chooses what to wear based on previously made combinations and so on, unless they consciously become aware of their action and might decide it's time for a change. It can be a small thing that makes people aware of their options
You can count that pretty much every person out there works like this and YOU often depend on THEIR choices.
My point of this journal is saying: Use this in your advantage!
Time can be compared to a diet. Eating to much bad stuff will make you unhealthy and feel bad, while eating healthy things will keep you going and feel good. So time can either make you feel stuck in one place, maybe even going backwards (ageing already does that for you) or

Is Reference Bad?I feel like I've addressed this before at some point, in some other journal, but I find myself either discussing this with people a lot, or coming across people who on their work proudly claim to have "used no reference."Is Reference Bad?4 years ago in Personal More Like This
The biggest problem, and misconception, regarding references is that people feel like it's cheating or that it somehow cheapens their work. While I can understand the sense of accomplishment coming from using no reference to finish a painting or drawing, people who consistently do it are only hurting themselves in the long run. So in short, no, reference isn't bad.
Artists have been using reference since the days of the old masters. They would reference life, whether it be landscapes, objects on a table, or models standing in a studio. They would even reference their own sketches or other people's work in order create convincing paintings.
For some reason, a lot of people today seem to think that in order to be a good artist, they have to be able to do things without

Christmas is just around the corner!
To sweeten your waiting time for the special day, UniqueDeviants gives out prizes from the 1st to the 24th of December!
How do I participate?
Simply comment on this blog that you want to participate and we’ll count you in. This year the number of participants is decreased to 300.
How does that work?
Every participant gets a number according to when he commented. (For Example; If I'd be the 64th deviant to comment, I'd get number 64) On every day, we'll randomly create a number. If the number would be 64, that would mean I win! The numbers and winners will be announced in the group’s blog! You'll receive a note including your number.
What are possible prizes?
Anything you can think of! You might win multiple llamas, or probably some points. Or even feat
