1.GOTA BE A FAN BEFORE DOING FAN ART FOR SOMETHING
Yup, I have not seen One Piece or Bleach so I will not do fan art for them, Im sure they are great anime as people has told me, but I just haven't gotten around to watch it thats all. So yes for me, I gota be a fan before doing fan art for something. Otherwise it kinda takes away wat the true meaning of what fan art is right? But yes I do know some people who draws fan art of whats popular rather than what they like, I remember one time I was walking in the artist alley and saw an artist who did an artwork of a fandom that I like, so I spoke to them about the series and realised the person has not played the game or know anything about it, but just drew it because
Symbol(s) for the non Premium DeviantsHello my Ryceballs. So eversince DA's recent symbol changes, I have been hearing a lot of complaints. Mostly about how regular non premium members don't even get a symbol. It makes them feel like they are not important. Its ok I hear ya I hear ya. And you know me, I am all about the people. Ry-Spirit cares. So I thought about this a lot and try to think of an appropriate symbol that best suits our non premium friends, at the end I came up with a symbol... WELL I say a symbol but its more like a string of symbols. I feel like this is the only option for it to work. And I have used myself as an example of what the symbols would look like if I am in fact a regular deviant. Ok please look below.Symbol(s) for the non Premium Deviants2 years ago in Personal More Like This

My 2 cents about educationON THE SUBJECT OF SCHOOLS, I FELT COMPELLED TO CHIME IN. If you can afford an expensive school then take it if you like but if you can't then obviously don't go to an expensive school. Just like you wouldn't buy a car you couldn't afford. My 2 cents about education2 years ago in Personal More Like This
The best thing about the "good" schools are the students because when you hear a school is great everybody flocks there, including many of the most talented... but notice I said "many" and not "all" the most talented.
"Superstars" can come from city, any shape, any color, ANY AGE. We've seen it many times before.
The best way to cultivate talent is to interact with other talented or potentially talented people. It just makes us all work even harder. I had the great fortune of being in the same school and year with Pixar's James Robertson, Dani Strijleva, Ben Su and John Lee. And these are just a handful of the very talented people from my year. Just by being in the same class, this has influenced me to work harder than ever when I really didn't w

How did the introduction of Jazz, Crazes and popular media influence the American populace during the early 1920s?
Brilliant question Silverpoint345, well well well firstly the American public heard the music and was like "HELL NAH THIS AINT MUSIC" cos in the 1920s everyone was kinda boring and didn't do much except for talkin about the weather, then after a while they became more open minded and were like "HELL YEAH THIS IS MY KINDA SH*T" and the
Difference between selling Art and selling MeatGreetings Ryceballs. Today I am gonna be talking about the differences between selling art and selling meat.Difference between selling Art and selling Meat2 years ago in Personal More Like This
It is absolutely fascinating how different the two can be! :iconyoudontsayplz: ... Well first of all, an artist likes their work to be appreciated and let the audience see for themselves whether they want to buy their artwork or not. While a butcher (ESPECIALLY ASIAN ONES LIKE THE ONE IN THE ARTWORK) only cares about selling the meat and making the profit, they have no sentimental feelings towards what they are selling, because if they do then there won't be any meat to sell right? One of the main rule of a butcher is to have no emotional attachment towards the animals, because they know sooner or later the animal needs to be chopped up. Well what about artists? Well they put their blood, sweat and tears into their artwork to make it as pretty as possible, all in hopes that the audiences would enjoy their art as much as the artist enjoy making them. NOW here's the thing thoug
Digital artists and paypal discussion.Digital artists - Important issue on Paypal:Digital artists and paypal discussion.2 years ago in Personal More Like This
So, due to recent changes with Paypal which "does not protect digital artists", I think I will be contact Paypal via phone later this week to clarify things. Unfortunately, I really depend on Paypal so I most likely won't be changing companies for handling my finances with my art - there's not many options out there that I'm willing to trust.
If you have a question you want to be clarified with Paypal about digital art sales, please post them below.
I have a Paypal business account so I am unsure if this issue would effect me, but it seems to have really concerned a lot of "regular" paypal users.

I will not be subjected to criminal abuseIts time for another story, do you guys want a story? I will give you one. This one is about my early days in the work industry and how you should always becareful and know your legal rights before you head in, you do not want to be subjected to criminal abuse without knowing. This happened a few years back, straight out of Design College, when I was still an 'Amateur Graphic Designer' as they like to call me. So I was searching online for jobs and found one that requires a Graphic Designer with artistic skills who can create original characters as well as making little icons and graphics stuff. I was like HELL YEAH THATS ME, so I sent them my portfolio, back then it had really unprofessional messy drawings and then a few graphic design works and photography bullshit pieces that I threw in here and there to show my 'range', I didn't have a consistant style and I had no idea what people wanted to see lol. So the company saw my work and they told me to come in. I was reallyI will not be subjected to criminal abuse3 years ago in Personal More Like This

But now it is available in my shop via digitally! \o/ So no shipping costs, plus you get the high res versions of all of the files! Plus, it's down 50% from the physical copy *uwu* (And the copic tutorial is included as well!)
The book includes over 30 linearts which I drew in 2012, so they have a lot more of my shiny-desu style (lol).

Is Riniuu turning into the new Amuria?
If anyone has been on DA's anime/manga scene long enough, you will remember infamous Amuria who basically recycled a lot of her own drawings so if you overlay the faces of as many as six of her drawings, they'd still all match up. She broke con rules about table limitations and was criticized for her gratuitous use of the dodge tool which really has nothing to do with her character but has linked her to the emote "@ w@" and the term "shiny shiny desu."
Allegations of Riniuu tracing, copying design motifs down to basically the entire character, reusing lineart and poses, etc. seem to have been floating around for a really long time now. Honestly, I don't really care that much. I don't even care about her attitude or her personality
If I lost an armMy good people of Deviantart. It is me again Chicken breasts mixed with vegetable poured with a delicious yet spicy Indian curry on Ryce, here with another thought provoking yet useless journal entry. What happened was earlier this week my tablet pen's been going crazy, because the nib on the tip of my tablet pen has worn off. I do use the tablet a lot.... Like every single day, so over time naturally you would need to replace the nib. But being me, I just always forget to buy it.. Every time the pen becomes non responsive I would smack it like a disobedient bitch until it works again. Well guess what.. it reached a point where I need to smack it once every minute. You wouldn't believe the pain I went through with the Valentine's day picture, what could've been a 3 hours artwork ended by being 6 hours. At the end the pen was finally dead, I could hardly see the nib anymore. By the way a nib is like a long plastic that acts as the tip of your pen ok...? Advice for ArtistsNot too often, but at least once a month, I spend some time in the forums. I noticed that a popular topic was 'how to become popular on dA' (no pun intended). Here are some suggestions from my end of the spectrum. More on how to become a better artist in general and promote your art more efficiently (but I guess those are the key steps in becoming popular on dA, heh).Advice for Artists2 years ago in Personal More Like This
1. Post your art in as many places as you can
After posting a deviation, dA makes it easy to post it to other sites. Make an account on pinterest, tumblr, etc. Don't worry if you can't tend to it much, the point is you want your art in as many places as possible. This heightens the chance of people seeing your art, some of these users might even be on dA, as well.
Other suggestions are instagram, artician.
2. Focus on what you're good at
While it's fun to dabble in different mediums, the more mediums you work with, the less time you are spending "mastering" any one of them. I'd say 2

PE: Fan Art vs Original ArtFan Art vs. Manga & Anime: The differencesPE: Fan Art vs Original Art2 years ago in Art Features More Like This
Many people have come to me in the past with questions regarding whether their work qualified as Manga & Anime or Fan Art, same happened with many Daily Deviations that were placed in the M&A gallery when they should have been submitted to the Fan Art Gallery, oops!
Do you have doubts regarding the submission process? Wonder no more, we'll unveil all the mysteries surrounding the categories! :iconokie2plz:
Fan art includes those artworks that are based on or contain material such as characters, settings, concepts or universes in general that are copyrighted to someone else other than the artist creating said Fan artwork.
Manga and Anime art, on the other hand, is home for all the artworks that artists have created from scratch and are not related to any preexisting universe nor contain any copyrighted material.

The hardest part of any craft is getting the right tools. You've gotta learn the language of the trade, and that means getting yourself familiar with what's needed where. Culinary arts in particular can be so overwhelming. Most sugar craft books will tell you you need a long list of expensive equipment they'll use to make one type of adornment never to be used again. This can suck a lot of beginners in to spending a fortune on equipment that's not essential. And cake decorating equipment is exorbitantly expensive. I can go buy some lustre dust and a couple of cutters required for one type of flower and kiss $100 goodbye, so knowing when to spend and when not to spend can save you a lot of pain.

Premium Content and how I feel about making moneyHalloPremium Content and how I feel about making money3 years ago in Personal More Like This
There's a new feature called premium content that allows users to make file downloads available for a charge. This seems to be something with a vast range of different possibilities that range from quite nice to to quite lame. Of course we are all always against commercialization and sell-outs and everything and don't want things to change but there are some interesting options here.
Obviously everyone is going to know whether or not this is something he or she could use and how much sense it's going to make for what you do specifically but there's two points I want to adress.
I always thought it was lame when people sell stuff like brushes or psd files. This is probably just my personal opinion and many will certainly disagree for valid reasons, but I think, if you make some brushes, and you ask money for something as tiny as that, you are lame. Sorry. Actually, the point here is not that it will kill someone to pay like one buck for something tiny, it's just that it change

The latest graphic tablets (now affordable for most anyone,) matched with the latest high-definition screens (displaying billions of colors,) connected to the latest computers (whose size are measured in inches and not feet,) all to render work near instantaneously. It's hard to imagine that with what we have today, publishers and artists were using these same types of devices as much as 40 years ago to set type, scan images, or even draw pictures.
So if you were an artist in the late 1970's, what would it have been like?
Well, click here (or above) to watch a video to get a bit of an idea.
If that's anything to go by, straight-up drawing was still a little out of reach. But you could scan drawings, save them, view them on a screen, scale them,

I thought it might be a nice idea, even though everyone and their dog has one of these, to put together a compilation of art resources for anybody to use (and for my own quick reference). I've gotten a lot of these from other compilations, but hey -- we're all in it together.
If you have any suggestions for me to throw in here that are helpful in any area of art (anatomy, colour theory, technique, brushes or stock photos - anything!), leave me a comment and I'll add it here.
There won't be much on here to start with, but I'll build it up as I go.

DO NOT DOWNLOAD ANYTHING!
I got this email today and I found it suspicious that they mentioned “Your account will be limited or terminated”. So, I called PayPal and found out that yes, this is indeed a fraudulent email.
They will never just address you with ‘Hello,’ — They’ll usually address you by the name you created the account with.
Also, the only time they will never ask you to change information is through logging into your account or calling them.
Never by downloading a form/file.
This email looks legit but it’s a fake.
It’s a ploy from someone else to get your personal information.
I almost put in my information but decided something about this just didn't feel right, so I called it in.
Again, DO NOT DOWNLOAD or FILL OUT THE FORM! It’s fake.
I know a lot of people on here use Paypal for their commission payment
Questioned by the Hong Kong PoliceSo where was I? Oh yes I was gonna talk about my experiences with the Hong Kong police, so here goes. OK this is the problem, whenever I visit Hong Kong I always have the fear of being questioned by the police, well not exactly fear because I've got nothing to hide, but whenever I am alone walking on the street and a policeman on patrol sees me, they would ALWAYS 100% stop and ask for my ID. For those ain't familiar with how things work in Hong Kong is that if they see a teenager (Especially male) on the street not in their school uniform during school time or with dyed hair or pretty much just 'gangster' or suspicious looking, they have the right to stop you in the middle of nowhere and question you. Now I match every bit of suspicion possible, what they are trying to check is if there's any sort of crime around the area so they can narrow down the suspects, or to check whether you are legal to be in Hong Kong, or whether you've got drugs on you. Anyway when I was in Hong Kong a monthQuestioned by the Hong Kong Police4 years ago in Personal More Like This
Writing, Reading, Blogging... 6 months in.This is going to be a bit of a departure from my normal journals. I'm one of those people that tends to pop up now and then in between projects and "update" everyone on how I am and what I'm doing... once in awhile I'll even post an art feature... but I don't do a lot of "articles". Today, at least for an hour, that's going to change. Why? Because after spending the last 6 months of my life blogging and immersing myself in the writer community, I feel I've learned a few things that deserve to be shared here on DeviantART, where the writing community tends to feel like a string of small, secluded islands.Writing, Reading, Blogging... 6 months in.2 years ago in Personal More Like This
Don't get me wrong, DeviantART is GREAT for artists as far as community goes. There's an amazing amount of people here who do their best to help out their fellow artists and support the new ones. Unfortunately, the writing community here is a lot smaller, and a lot more... closed off. Most serious writers who post their work to DeviantART are met with a chirping cricket. People may rea

Tales of the N64Hello Ryceballs, its been a long time since I actually drew something or written something for Deviantart, mostly because of travelling to conventions and work, if you haven't guessed it by now I actually draw for a living. BUT IM BACK FOR A BIT NOW, with more stories to entertain you delicious people! This is a picture of me when I was playing the N64 back in the day. So why do I wanna talk about the 64 out of all the consoles? Well mostly because I have been trashing Nintendo so much lately about their decisions in the gaming industry that I thought I should talk about something more positive about Nintendo when they were at their prime. ALSO because I have so many good memories with this console! Without further ado, THIS is how it all began.. it started with my dad coming home from work one day and showing me a newspaper article with a competition on it, it was sponsored by Toyota and i
Why you 'should' use Google AnalyticsHi everyone! Why you 'should' use Google Analytics2 years ago in Personal More Like This
As you may have heard, Deviantart now includes the tracking codes necessary for Google Analytics to work, and people with premium accounts now can use Google Analytics.
You probably have one of the following reactions:
What the heck is that?
Looks like a lot of work.
Oh no! PRIVACY CONCERNS!
If you have privacy concerns, btw, I have another journal entry that deals specifically with those, which you can find here: ( Analytics privacy concerns )
Maybe you even set up an account immediately on hearing the news, then looked at it and saw something like this:
Which looks completely useless, right?
First thing you need to know: Google Analytics takes time to work. At LEAST a day, but really you should give it at least a week.
