dA adds new CSS attributes Skinners! Must read!Okay, as per the latest dA site update found here. CSS coders are now allowed to use 3 more properties to rock their journal skins.dA adds new CSS attributes Skinners! Must read!3 years ago in Art Features More Like This
The properties are:
Lets see what can we do with these new fancy stuffs!
What does these attributes do?
1) content--> it is used to insert generated content in your HTML (Journal body for DA). Don't worry, don't worry! I'll tell you what is this "generated" content!
2) counter-increment --> it is used to insert numbers (or counters) to sections or sub-sections. I'll explain what "sections" and "sub-sections" are don't worry again!
3) counter-reset --> it is used to reset the counters
All these 3 properties are generally interlinked and are used together. But the "content" property can be used alone and has some cool usage.
Project Educate: Fight Artist's/Writer's BlockArtist/Writer's block is the worst nightmare for writers and artists! Because of this, many artists and writers quit! Writer's/Artist's block is usually only temporary, but it can be long too! Here are some ways to fight writer's/artist's block!Project Educate: Fight Artist's/Writer's Block1 year ago in Personal More Like This
Find a place or situation that inspires you:
Yes, you've all probably heard this a lot of times, but it's true. Finding places that you like can inspire you to do more art/writing! That place doesn't have to be quiet, it can be a huge city bursting with life and sound! Places won't only inspire you, but so will situations. Taking a walk around your city or even you neighborhood can inspire you. Try going to special events that take places. See how people interact! Just like a place, these situations don't have to be happy or very community-like. Sometimes bad situations can inspire artist's/writer's to express their feelings through art or writing.
Pull up old ideas:
Artist's/Writer's usually throw the majorit
Helpful Tip of the Day 03Noticing mistakes:Helpful Tip of the Day 032 years ago in Personal More Like This
>> Zoom in and out.
When you paint detail in one section too long, you loose sight of the entire drawing.
Zoom out and walk away from your desk, take a look at the drawing from afar or walk away and come back.
This way your brain will notice mistakes.
>> Flip the image.
When flipping the image, this allows your mind to view the drawing differently, any mistakes will stand out like a sore thumb.
The eyes might not be level etc.
Its a great trick,
If you are drawing traditionally, hold the paper up to a window and stare at the blank side.
>> Blocking down form zoomed out.
This is a more advanced thing to do that took me several years to get used to. I paint zoomed out to shape the form and colour placement, ( which I also fix halfway through with curves)
Then once you are happy with the form, zoom in and add details, even then I only zoom in about 30-40%
Its all about preferences/ eye sight and size of canvas.

Have a project in mind, but not sure about where you’ll be able to gather the funds? Funding is often the most difficult aspect of running a project, but with the correct planning, organization, and fundraising, you can make any project a success!
Not every deviant has the financial capacity to assist your project, but every deviant can contribute by helping you promote your project. After all, even if these certain individuals cannot be able to donate, they may be able to find you the people who can. In your project announcement journals, make sure to emphasize that anyone can help by:
Adding the journal to their favorites to bump it up to the Journal PortalWriting a journal or a poll promoting the projectEncouraging their friends to help out and spread the word
Another thing to keep in mind is how you plan on collecting donations. Does your project require devi
Small RantUhg I'm so tired of seeing artists under selling themselves cause there's cheap asses out there who seem to have no sense of value.Small Rant1 year ago in Personal More Like This
To artists: Don't undersell yourself. If you spend hours on a picture for someone who only paid you $5... stop. Seriously you under selling yourself just to get a commission shouldn't happen. I understand that you might think you're not popular enough to get tons of commissions so you think that if you sell them for really cheap people will buy them, but who cares! If you spend 4 hours on a picture worth $5 you've essentially paid your commissioner with your life. You might as well open up requests! Charge what your art is worth!! You not only hurt yourself but everyone else. The reason you have to sell your art for chump change is because everyone else is selling it for chump change. Also, why are you drawing primarily for money anyway? It's not exactly a good job. Heck most of us don't even make minimum wage ((myself included)), so what a rewardin
Songwriting: The BasicsSongwriting: The BasicsSongwriting: The Basics1 year ago in Art Features More Like This
Because there is no way to submit audio files to deviantArt, songwriting and composing are art forms that are somewhat left out on dA. However, since there is a category for songs and lyrics, the art of creating songs has not been completely overlooked. In this article, I will cover the basics of songwriting, such as the elements of a song, hooks, and song structure, as well as share my own writing process. I’ve also included a feature of my favourite musical pieces on dA.
Elements of a Song
According to most books about songwriting, a song is made up of three things: the melody, the harmony, and the rhythm. If we are talking about popular genres, such as rock, pop, or country, I also like to include the lyrics as part of the elements.
If we consider a pop song (or a song in another non-instrumental genre), the melody would be what the person is singing. When you are humming along, you are singing the melody. The harmony,

1. What type of Media do you use to draw on?
- I use Paintool SAI to draw, Photoshop Cs3 to edit.
2. How do you start your pictures? Do you plan them out first or do you just draw and see where it gets you?
- It depends. Most of my works are commissions. So if the ideas are given by the commissioner, and mostly if there are background and such, I sketch out ideas accordingly. Composition, perspective and such.
For big pictures I normally don't do just one sketch. I have more than 1 options, or just sketch out as much as possible until I am satisfied with the composition/basic ideas. Then I start doing a more detailed sketch, and more detailed sketches if needed before starting with the lines.
If it's just a simple picture like drawing of a character with no ba
Cats are not Trash. /edit 2Thor had another visit with the vet today, and got some shots. I had to take him in again because he was wheezing really badly, so I was concerned. The doctor said it'll go away over time and he told me not to be too concerned unless Thor starts to shake or passes out. The doctor also noticed today that Thor's paws have gotten bigger, which he think means that Thor might have a cuts on his feet from being in the trash that got infected.Cats are not Trash. /edit 22 years ago in Personal More Like This
The good news is that Thor has been gaining weight, and the vet was able to give him his first booster. Thor's stool sample test also came back and he has tapeworms. Then a new flea treatment. So, I had to buy medicine for him which cost a whopping $103.00. Then his booster was $73.00. After all the taxes, Thor's vet visit today cost me $200.00.
We also scheduled a date for Thor's castration, the doctor said that he'll be old enough and it's better to get the surgery done while he is young since he will heal better. So, on November 27th, Thor will have
PE: Silk Screen Printing BasicsToday I will discuss some basic information about Silk Screen printing and hopefully draw more interest to this wonderful and fun art form. Silk Screen Printing is used in a variety of professional fields these days and produces beautifully vibrant images that often appear digital in nature due to their vibrance. Silk Screen printing is also often used to print designs and logos onto T-shirts or other apparel - you probably own something that was silk screen printed!PE: Silk Screen Printing Basics1 year ago in Art Features More Like This
Let's go ahead and dive right in, shall we?
Generally a digital image is made that is printed as a transparency which is then used to get the image on the screen with some help using emulsion. The 'exposure unit' then burns away the unnecessary emulsion leaving behind a clean area in the mesh with the identical shape as the desired image.
After printing and cleaning the screen, screens are held up to the light to make sure no small holes are present in areas that are not

I think it's about time I make one of these now. I've been getting a lot of notes and comments and I'm starting to see some patterns in them that make my responses redundant and reptitive. Since I can't answer everything anymore, I'll put up as much info as I can here for those who truly want to know certain bits of info about me. I'll update this as new info and repeated questions come up. Eventually this will be put up on my front page and elsewhere.
**As for right now, fill up this journal's comments with questions to help me put together a F.A.Q. If it's not entirely related to my work or deviantart, I'll probably ignore them. Think about what you would like to know. For example, if I get a lot of questions about "How do I do bokeh" or "How do you make clouds", I'll know that that's something I
LOL Talking to StrangersSo.. I'm out of town visiting my mother. I arrived here yesterday- I also need to get some pots and stuff for my balcony.LOL Talking to Strangers3 years ago in Personal More Like This
My mother went to the bank for 30 minutes, and I'm home alone here with my handsome dog. ( WHich has no relation anything. I feel it's important that I always call him good-looking :3 ).
So the phone rings- I know I don't live here, but I answer it to take a message.
Stranger:" Hey! How are you doing?"
No word of a LIE- this man sounds exactly like my brother. EXACTLY. Hence, I assume it's my brother.
Me: " Oh hey. I'm ok, just stopping by to visit and pick up a few things."
Stranger: " Oh? Like what?"
Me: " Well I want to go to that terrible Walmart and see if I can find cheap plastic chairs for my balcony. I also want to see if I can pick up some gardening stuff" (psst..Walmart freaks me out. Just sayin' )
Stranger: " What kind of gardening stuff?"
Me: " You know- flower boxes and soil. It's a lot cheaper to buy it here than near me."
Bump Up Your ColorWorking with color can be difficult no matter what medium you choose, but it can be especially daunting for traditional artists. Learning how to mix your own colors is equally as important as learning how to apply them to your work.Bump Up Your Color1 year ago in Art Features More Like This
1. No matter what your art teacher says, YOU CAN use black and white
You've all probably heard that at one point: don't use black, black is bad (or white is bad). There is nothing inherently badabout using either color. The real caution should be in not using them exclusively in lightening or darkening a color. Both colors are very strong and can overwhelm the saturation of whatever they are mixed with. Rather than omit black and white from your palette, explore the range they can have when mixed with other colors.
2. Don't buy "flesh colored" pigments
You know that peachy tinted stuff? Don't use it. Pre-mixed pigments with white in them tend to be very chalky and unnatural looking, plus, it

Because I'm bored and this seems like fun. I'll keep updating this everyday, so don't worry if this pops up often in your messages.
OC's used: Jake & Axel
1.) Describe your character's relationship with their mother or their father, or both. Was it good? Bad? Were they spoiled rotten, ignored? Do they still get along now, or no? 15-12-2012
Jake's father abandoned his mother when he discovered she was pregnant with Jake. He found a father figure in his stepfather and a few months later had a baby half-brother, Axel.
They both had a happy childhood, Axel being the little favourite and Jake always trying to impress his new "papa". They were deeply loved, but never to a point where they were spoiled rotten.
When they were respectively 8 and 6 years old, their mother and stepfather/father got into a car accident, leaving them all alone.

Every single one of you, if you draw or paint, at least once was stuck - or will be - with this thought in your head: how should this body part/perspective/chiaroscuro be drawn correctly?
Some certain aspects of creating a picture and its composition make quite a challenge, especially (but really not only) for a beginner. This is where references come in handy. Written from a point of view of someone, who used to use them often and who does not anymore - almost at all.
The best and easiest when it comes to follow, storage and collect - photo references can be called without hesitation the most popular of this specification. On deviantART, you've got the amazing Resources & Stock Images category full of brilliant reference pictures - and there are deviants with accounts dedicated completely to providi

I don't know, you probably don't agree with it, but it's something I thought about.
Think about those insecurities you have, right now.
Think you are ugly?
Remember those "flaws" you have? Those pimples on your face, those stretch marks on your stomach, those cute lil fuzzy caterpillars above those gorgeous shiny orbs, your teeth that have a little personality?
Imagine you have a son or daughter, they approached you. They told you they hated everything about them selves. Listed all their "flaws".
Thought that added value around their waist or arms and legs, around their chin and cheeks devalued them as a person.
The freckles that decorated their entire bodies made them look abnormal or made them feel out of place.
Their noses were too big, or were an "ugly" shape.
What would you think?
What would you say to them?
Now replace your child with yourself.
Maybe it's not the "bitchez" at school that are the problem.
They are t
