Last year I visited a craft fair and discovered in the paper decoration / paper crafting a super great new material.
Maybe some of you know it.
But here in german Cosplay scene, and perhaps also for many other countries it's really a novelty.

It can be used for paper decoration, for gemstones, paint and much more.
In this tutorial I made a kind of decoration for costumes versions/ setting for stones/ enamelling paper.

here two shops I found at the internet:
german shop
uk shop (only powder)

FOR MAKING GEMSTONES PLEASE READ THE LAST TIP

.
.
.

How to work step by step:

STEP 1

What materials do you need:

- Paper / paperboard (or laminated paper)
- Brush / pens / scissors
- heat dryer
- Acrylic paint / varnish
- WOW! Embossing Powder
- Embossing Ink Pad (or something like that)
- stamp as planned (usually for Embossing Powder)
- On request: Perfect Pearls - Colorpowder
- Baking paper as a base for quick and easy work

STEP 2

Draw the shape you want on your paper and cut it out.

Tip: You can't often cut the paper later. It is important to have everything in the exact shape.

STEP 3

Paint your paper with acrylic or varnish.
If you have laminated paper, you don't need this step!

STEP 4

Press the ink pad on your shape. It must be sticky and wet.

STEP 5

Now sprinkle the first layer "WOW! Embossing Powder" on the sticky paper.

Tip: You can use a bare paper placed under it.
Fold it once in the middle and after you're done pour your powder back into your box.

STEP 6

Heat the powder with the heat dryer.
You should be a handbreadth away with the heat dryer.
You can see exactly how the powder melting and begins to get a smooth surface.

EVERY layer is repeated in this way!

STEP 7

For a simple enamelling, you can do this 1 to 2 times.
If you want to impress a pattern, you will need 2 to 3 layers of embossing powder. How to recognize the pattern beautifully.

Here's an example: 1 layer and 3 layers

STEP 8

Each "WOW! Embossing Powder" and every "Perfect Pearl-Colorpowder" have different effects.
I wanted to antique gold. For that I use black Embossing Powder and "Perfect Pearls - Sunflower Sparkle"

I paint the colorpowder with a brush on my shape.

STEP 9

Heat it the last time.
IMMEDIATELY press the stamp on your shape and let cool.
Only when it is cooled off, you can remove the stamp.

Your shape with the pattern is finished.

.
.
.

All steps at a look (for example with a stone on it)

SPECIAL TIP

To pour stones / shapes, you need the following things:

- A little old pot or pan
- Stove or hot plate

Step 1: Heat the "WOW! embossing powder" in the pot
Step 2: Pour it into the mold
Step 3: Let it cool

YOUR'E DONE

Tip: You can use any leftovers again!

gemstone tutorial

How difficult it always is, to get stones for a costume in the right color, size and shape.

That's why I uploaded this tutorial today: How to make gems.

.
.
.

How to work step by step:

STEP 1

What materials do you need:

- resin and hardener
- tinting paint
- cups and spoons/ chopsticks to stir
- maybe a scale
- silicone mold for/ of stones (I bought it on etsy)
- aluminium foil
- scissors

STEP 2

~ Note:
With water I could find out how much resin I needed later.
For more quantities, you can mark a line with a pencil on the cup. ~

For my stone I need only 1 tablespoon of resin (= 8g)
For more quantities the weight is important. See step 3

STEP 3

To get some colorful stones you can use tinting paint. I use a simple green color.
Sometimes you need one or two colortests to get the right mixture ratio.

For a beautiful transparent green I need a half-drop.
Mixing the tinting paint with the resin thoroughly.

When you are finished you can add the hardener. For the stone, it was about 10 drops.
Each resin has a guide with a resin-hardener mixture ratio. For more quantities, you can calculate out at the scale of how much you need to mix hardener based on the weight.  Otherwise, simply by touch.
Mix it again now.

STEP 4

Pour everything in the mold of your choice. With the spoon you can get every last drop out of the cup.

Tip: if you have too much resin in the cup, pour it into a second form. So all is well used.

STEP 5

Cut out the foil a rough shape of the stone. Something bigger than the stone itself!
And put it on it.

Now just wait until everything is fixed.
Tip: A warm place speed up the drying.

STEP 6

In approximately less than an hour the stone should be completely dry.
Take it out of the mold. If it is still a little sicky dry it with a hair dryer. Wait 5 minutes and cut the excess foil.

The stone is done ❤

applique-belt tutorial

I've become a big fan of appliqués in the past 5 years.
In this tutorial I want to show you what you can accomplish with this simple sewing technique.

Don't be surprised if I go through the steps quickly. In the lower tutorials everything has been described.

Basics / other tutorials can be found here:
appliqué tutorial
braid tutorial

.
.
.

How to work step by step:

STEP 1

What materials do you need:

- pattern/ reference
- fabric and thread
- Interfacing /Interfacing double-sided and a iron
- sewing mashine/ needle
- fabric paint

Now as in appliqué tutorial reinforce your fabric with interfacing. It [interfacing] shouldn't come off.

STEP 2

Paint the colour on it next. Here I used metallic-olive and metallic-white. One color per fabric.

Use a copy of your pattern and draw all the lines on the fabric.
(NEVER cut the original!)

Tip: You can also draw the pattern before the white paint.

STEP 3

You can start stitching one time the frame for example with zigzag (see appliqué tutorial)

Now our prolonged step: Cut it out carefully. In this case you may not cut the seam, otherwise everything goes on.
And don't forget all the threads. ^.~

STEP 4

Place the white pattern on the green fabric. You can clue it or get pin up.
In double-sided interfacing just put it ironed, then it will not slip.
Sew a second time with the zigzag along the pattern.

For Step 5 I sewed with white thread a line.

STEP 5

With a decorative green thread I repeat twice the zigzag stitch and sew along the line from step 4.

STEP 6

It may happen that you have to sew several pieces of fabric together.
Please note that the pattern is not interrupted (if possible).

STEP 7

I found old green pleather in my fabric wardrobe. Perfect for my belt.
Cut the pleather in the same size as the color fabric and sew it all together.

STEP 8

With the bias tape is the belt "closed" and decorated.
As a little extra, I stitched the bias tape with zigzag.

.
.
.

And so it may look like (combined with stones)

I have recently begun to really enjoy Tangled and I already love Wreck it Ralph, but I've noticed several similar qualities between the two movies. Shockingly both movies have very close similarities that may sound far-fetched at times, but I wanted to make a list of some of the similarities I noticed.

For instance:

Both Wreck-it Ralph and Flynn Rider start and end their movies as narrators off screen.

(Tangled's Beginning Line) - Flynn: "This is the story of how I died."
         (Wreck-it Ralph's Beginning Line) - Ralph: "My name's Wreck-it Ralph."

(Tangled's Ending Line) - Flynn: "Yes we are"
         (Wreck-it Ralph's ending line) - Wreck-it Ralph: "How bad can I be?"

Both Vanellope and Rapunzel are girls who were forced by the villain of their movies to live in a single area: For Rapunzel it was the tower, and for Vanellope it was Sugar Rush.

Both Ralph and Rapunzel go barefoot throughout their entire movie.

Vladmir and Maximus make cameo appearances in Wreck-it Ralph in the Game Central Station

Both Rapunzel and Vanellope have dreams that would anger the villian: Rapunzel wants to go out into the world and Vanellope wants to race.

King Candy wants Vanellope to not know she is a princess, the game's main racer, and the one who would cause him to be deleted due to the game being reset if she crossed the finish line.
Mother Gothel doesn't want Rapunzel to know she is a princess or to leave the tower due to her hair's ability to make Mother Gothel young and remain alive.

Vanellope and Rapunzel are both manipulated by the main villain of their movies. King Candy refers to her as a glitch and the one who would be responsible for having the game unplugged
Mother Gothel refers to Rapunzel as too naïve to be out in the world.

Vanellope is made with glitching powers that help her save Ralph from falling to his death.
Rapunzel is also made with powers from the sun flower that heal Flynn from the stab wound that he received from Mother Gothel.

Vanellope feels that racing is what she is meant to do
Rapunzel feels that the floating lanterns she sees every year on her birthday are meant for her.
They both discover that their inner feelings were right in the end.

Both movies have scenes that involve swirling spirals of Disney sparkles that are often compared to the "Beauty and the Beast" scene. Not to mention they involve transformation scenes where the character is being lifted into the air and transformed into who they were meant to be. Vanellope being a Princess and The Beast being a human Prince.

Wreck it Ralph and Vanellope don't get along very well when they first meet each other
Flynn and Rider and Rapunzel don't get a long very well in the beginning either, but both girls know they need them to help them.

Both Vanellope and Flynn Rider are wanted "criminals" in their worlds and are constantly being chased by castle guards whenever they're spotted by them.

Both Ralph and Flynn have desired objects: (the medal for Ralph and the crown for Flynn)

Both objects were risky for them to obtain and would help them get what they desire the most, but those objects are stolen and somewhat hidden from their grasp by the heroines of their movies, Vanellope and Rapunzel.

Both Rapunzel and Vanellope have Flynn and Ralph make deals with them.
Rapunzel has Flynn agree to take her to see the lanterns for her birthday and then she'd give him back the crown.
Vanellope has Ralph agree to help her break into the race car factory, make a car, and win the race so she could him back his medal which would also make her a real racer.

Both Vanellope and Rapunzel ask their sidekicks (Ralph and Flynn) if the fulfillment of their dreams is really what they want.
     - Vanellope: "Ralph, what if the gamers don't LIKE me?"
      - Wreck-it Ralph: "Who doesn't love a brat with dirty hair? Those people are going to love you. You know why? Because you're  a winner...you're adorable...and everybody loves an adorable winner!"

      - Rapunzel: "What if it's not what I always hoped it would be?"
      - Flynn: "It will."

Both movies have a moment where the girls think their friends (Ralph and Flynn) have betrayed them.
When Vanellope sees Ralph with the metal she thinks he told on her for his selfish gain.
When Rapunzel sees Flynn sailing off at a distance after she gives him back the crown she thinks he took advantage of her by leaving her helpless in the presence of the bad-boy Stabbington twins.

Vanellope gives Ralph a hand made medal right before her dream is about to come true as a racer.
Rapunzel gives Flynn the crown back when they're on a lake whenever her dream comes true.

Both villians (King Candy and Mother Gothel) spend a majority of their movies within a physical disguise that looks completely different from their true form.

Both villains die gruesome deaths and in the forms of their true identities, which are pretty disturbing in appearance.

Both couples are willing to give up their lives for their friends:
Vanellope tells Ralph to go ahead and get out of the game for his own safety since she can't leave the game as the cybugs are consuming Sugar Rush. Ralph decides to sacrifice himself by falling into the volcano cap of Mentos which will act as a beacon for the cybugs to dissolve in, and if he is successful in killing off the cybugs then Vanellope will be able to become a real racer in the game and not be known as a glitch.
Rapunzel is willing to stay with Mother Gothel for the rest of her life, but not without healing Flynn Rider. Flynn would rather die than live with the knowledge that Rapunzel is trapped with such an insane woman. So, he chops off the only resource that is keeping Mother Gothel alive and possessive of Rapunzel, which is her hair.

Rapunzel accidentally reveals Mother Gothel's true identity once her hair is chopped off.
Vanellope accidentally reveals King Candy/Turbo's identity when her glitches cause his disguise to glitch away to reveal Turbo.

Both Rapunzel and Vanellope are put in chains toward the end of their movies.
Vanellope is actually seen in jail and surrounded by chains
Rapunzel is seen being dragged in chains by Mother Gothel to the windowless basement of the tower, or in other words, a jail.

King Candy and Mother Gothel have multiple personality disorders. Both Mother Gothel and King Candy/Turbo are delighted in the idea of seeing the hero (Flynn/Wreck-It Ralph) dead.

Both movies have characters that explain the backstory of the villians.
Fix it Felix tells Calhoun about how Turbo was a racer who loved attention and left his game when a more popular and new racing game took away the attention he was getting, which caused his game and the new game to be unplugged.
Flynn tells the audience about Mother Gothel and how she was an aging old woman who found a flower that had the power to heal and make her look younger. He also tells the audience about how the Queen was sick, pregnant, and given the flower in the form of soup that helped the Queen to be healed, and ended his narration by telling the audience about how Mother Gothel kidnapped the Queen's daughter, Rapunzel.

After my dear friend :iconaigue-marine: (and a lot of other people before) asked me, how I make my appliques, I thought: hey, you work at a costume with this appliques again. I can make a tutorial!

And here you see step by step how I make on a easy way all my appliques.

.
.
.

What do you need:
- paper, pencil and scissors (maybe a rubber)
- fabric and thread
- Interfacing /Interfacing double-sided and a iron
- sewing mashine/ needle

How to work step by step:

STEP 1

Sew or compose your costume, as you need it.
If you know where the pattern to be sewn on it: take the fabric or the pattern for step 3 as a template

STEP 2

Take (old) paper, a sketch of the costume as an overview and pens for drawing

STEP 3

Copy the fabric or the pattern on the paper.
Then draw the desired pattern as a template onto the paper.

STEP 4

Cut and sort everything ^. ~

STEP 5

Reinforce your fabric with interfacing. It must not go off!

STEP 6

Draw with the template your pattern on the fabric and cut them roughly (!).

STEP 7

Set your machine to a zigzag. This can be nearly look like this.
Sew all the lines along the fabric. This can sometimes take a little longer. So be patient.

STEP 8

The pattern looks like this, once you've sewed it. Sometimes you have to iron it then.

STEP 9

Cut it out carefully. In this case you may not cut the seam, otherwise everything goes on.

STEP 10

Cut all the threads.

STEP 11

Place the pattern on the costume / the fabric. You can clue it or get pin up.
In double-sided interfacing just put it ironed, then it will not slip.
Sew a second time with the zigzag along the pattern.

STEP 12

TADAAAAAA your applique is done!

.
.
.

I hope you like it. If you have any questions, you can contakting me here or per note. ^.~

Braid tutorial

Sat Dec 8, 2012, 1:07 PM
◊◊◊◊◊◊◊◊◊◊◊◊◊◊◊ :facebook: Naraku on Facebook ◊◊◊◊◊◊◊◊◊◊◊◊◊◊◊
◊◊◊◊◊◊◊◊◊◊◊◊◊◊◊ :twitter: Naraku on Twitter ◊◊◊◊◊◊◊◊◊◊◊◊◊◊◊

Today I show you how to sew a wide braid. Most cosplayers have the problem that our character has a pattern, a braid or similar to his clothes that are simply not exist to buy.
With this little tutorial you have one of many ways to solve this problem completeley.

Today my costume is from Sakizou of the artbook "Romantic jewels - Gentleman"
Character: Prince Emerauld

Have a look what the braid looks like.

.
.
.

How to work step by step:

STEP 1

What materials do you need:

fabric (here I use cotton)
Interfacing
Bias tape
metallic- / decorative thread
Fabric Paints (gold, copper and olive green)
paper pattern (make some copies from your original!!)
Scissors, pencils and Co.

STEP 2

The first step is the same as in the appliqué tutorial.
Irons interfacing onto the back of your fabric.
It shouldn't come off.

STEP 3

Draw the number of stripes on the back of the fabric you need. Use a pencil, biro or something else.

Done? Paint the colour on it next.

STEP 4

Now cut and draw the copy of your pattern.
(NEVER cut the original!)

You can also draw the pattern before the gold paint.

STEP 5

IMPORTANT: Before you sew, paint and begin the pattern - first makes a test!

STEP 6

The test was a success?
Then you can start stitch the frame for example with zigzag (see appliqué tutorial)

STEP 7

If you have sewn everything you want to sew, it is time for a little paint.
With Brush and fabric color paint all remaining surfaces and patterns.

STEP 8

For fast work uses a system. Much like on an assembly line.

STEP 9

As long as the border dries, you can start with the bias tape.
I prefer to paint bias tape in the color I need.
So I have the same shade as the rest of the border or have the color I need.

STEP 10

The paint on the border and on the bias tape is dry?
Then you have to combine it yet * _ *

Feel free to use the decorative / metallic thread.

STEP 11

And so it looks finished.
Congratulations - you made your own border

:+fav: :iconfabulousplz::+fav:

It just occurred to me that I am about 9k away from 300k page views.

How about that :la:

I know the last two times I offered a drawing, but unfortunately, I don't have time this year ;_; .

So, for the FIRST PERSON to send me a NOTE (private note) with a screenshot of my 300,000 pageviews, you get a prize

:iconinuheheheplz:

Don't get too excited~

I will send that person either a free bed pillow case or throw pillow case: from my shop :iconinuderpplz:

ANY one of your choice : www.etsy.com/ca/shop/BishiCent…

:+fav: this journal makes me like you more than i already do.

I know you didn't think it was possible, because you're so darn loveable, but it is! :iconarmstrongtighthugplz:

Edit: Due to seemingly mass confusion, taking a "screenshot" means.. well there's a button on everyone's computer that allows them to take a picture of their desktop. You have to take a screenshot picture of my PAGE saying 300,000 pageviews. Then save that to Stash, or Photobucket, or whatever hosting site you use, and send me a link to it o_O.

Other than that, I dunno how to explain it- please google screenshot if you need further explaining :o

Worbla's Finest Art Tutorial I

Thu Sep 13, 2012, 12:00 PM

Hello and welcome to my second tutorial. I made this one especially for Thomas today.

Here are some pictures on "How to use Worbla's"

◊◊◊◊◊◊◊◊◊◊◊◊◊◊◊

But first: What is Worbla's?

Worbla's Finest Art is a thermoplastic that's ultra cosplayer-friendly. It cuts easily with a knife or a pair of scissors. Then simply heat it up with steam, hot water or hot air (90°C), and it'll become mouldable. Once it's cooled down it goes hard again.

Worbla's works with spray paints and acrylics very well. There is glue on the shiny side, so multiple layers can be added when it's hot. And because it's only about 1mm thick, it's very good for creating details.

Don't throw away any leftovers! They can be heated up and then rolled together, then you can use it like putty.

◊◊◊ copied by coscraft www.coscraft.co.uk/ ◊◊◊

you can buy it here:
coscraft www.coscraft.co.uk/
my costume www.mycostumes.de/

◊◊◊◊◊◊◊◊◊◊◊◊◊◊◊

Here you can see how I made the medals for my Lady Loki cosplay step by step.

.
.
.

What do you need:
- pencil, scissors or a knife and maybe paper
- worbla's
- head dryer
- acrylic paint/ spray
- sandpaper and spackle
- basic model

How does it work, step by step:

STEP 1

Keep your materials and basic models ready. Here you can see the light brown Worbla's and the basic forms.

STEP 2

Draw a shape or the outline of your basic model.

STEP 3

you're done? then cut it out - wohooo. (You can cut it easily with a knife or a pair of scissors.)
just a hint: Collect all residues. You can use it later for another project!

STEP 4

Time for the magic weapon: the ultimate heat pistol!
Heat your Worbla's, it gets soft and pliable.

my second hint: it is TOO hot when your worbla's is brighter/white and rough.

STEP 5

Put your Worbla's on your basic model or bend it freehand.
Now you have to wait for it to get cold and solid again.

STEP 6

You should heat all your pieces and bend them into your desired form in one go. This is easier and saves you a lot of time.

STEP 7

You don't need to do this step, but you can use some spackle to make your worbla's smoother.

STEP 7 a

If you use spackle, you can grind it down to smoothness with sandpaper.

STEP 7 b

This picture doesn't show it that well, but you can make out what I mean.
Your goal: make it smooth smooth smooth, like a baby bottom. ^.~

STEP 8

Are you done with the previous step? Now you can use all acrylic paint and spray it as you need. Let them dry very well.
For special effects you can use a second paint to draw on it after the first dried through.

STEP 9

Wear it on a convention and be the proudest cosplay in this world ♡
