So after seeing some of the new costumes for the DC reboot, I thought I'd create my version of Starfire's costume if the reboot were up to me. I'm not going to claim that I am a super comic book geek who knows everything about Starfire. In fact I will be honest, what I know extends to the cartoon network Teen Titans cartoon version of her. Now with that In mind, when I saw the new costume I was stunned by it, or the lack there of. I could just see my childhood dying a little. I created this costume with the cartoon version of her in mind. Once teen starfire grew up a bit, and probably got a bit scraped up from her mini skirt and midriff baring top, she would definately commission a more protective suite, and below I explain.

First-Why I have a problem with her new reboot costume: Yes I am not much fond for what I've seen of her personality in this new version (all sexed up or whatever), but really it is her costume. Now I know if it were me, I would not want to go out into a life or death fight with vicious criminals and ruthless villains in what appears like a glorified thong swimsuit. It is not because I think she has to be covered, its just common sense, I mean all of her vital organs and vulnerabilities are exposed for the taking.

Second-Why I made the costume like I did: No girl wants to wear something frumpy, especially if you look like starfire does, but also, no super-girl wants to die needlessly in battle. Solution is simple, make a stylish, yet protective armor suite that better protects weaknesses. That being said, there is metal, steel plated armor protecting the jugular and ribs (thus the lungs and heart). Next there is super durable protective armor for the abdomen (Liver, intestines, etc) and the breast (who wants a boob punch...seriously it hurts), and steel over the shoulders all kept tight and in place with a super thick black elastic material (no sliding armor!). Next you will notice the steel arm guards (to protect the weakest point of the arm) and thigh high armored boots to protect the shins, ankles and toes (the weakest point of the leg) Only exposing thighs-one of the strongest areas of the body, even they, though, are covered with leggings, as an added flair. To add some style to the costume, I mean she does like style, add ruby to the neck armor, a stylish armor belt (to tie the armor together) with 3 additional rubies. Next she has an armored upper arm bracelet, for effect. Finall add a bit of short material on the sides, as a reminiscence of her childhood costume.

Well I hope you enjoy my version of starfire. :)

This probably has been done before, but I wan't to give my go at it. This is Conrad Veidt, a German actor who starred in "THE MAN WHO LAUGHS", a movie which helped inspire the DC Comics villain, THE JOKER. Here is Veidt as the character he inspired.... the Joker.

This was done with GIMP.

The Joker is copyrighted to DC Comics/Warner Bros./Whoever.
The Man Who Laughs is likely copyrighted by Universal Studios.
No copyright infringement intended, this is something of an artistic experiment.

I'm still relatively new at doing stuff like this, so some comments are encouraged.

For anyone curious, I am posting my evolution from some characters I drew in 2008 (top row) and now. You can see that I've gotten a better understanding of 3 dimensional form, and overall creativity. It just takes patience and a lot of drawing, and the skill that you think you cannot reach will come to you. I am personally excited to see myself evolve and get even better, as I still have far to go :)
