PE: Traditional ShadingTraditional ShadingPE: Traditional Shading2 months ago in Art Features More Like This
Hello. This is iDJPanda on the topic of shading!
When I usually start into the shading process of something, I always struggle to see which kind of technique I can use to give the piece of art the type of wow that I want. But just like anything, there are MANY ways to do it! This can help you use different shading techniques for different textures. I'm gonna give you a few different ways you can shade (Try to shake it up! ). If you have any other ways you shade, please feel free to tell me!
One of my favorite, in this technique of shading, you go against what all elementary teachers told you. You scribble! When you shade like this, you'll come out with something that looks like this.
Using circular motions, you generate different shades. Spending more time, swirling makes the certain areas you want darker, and the less you swirl makes the other areas lighter.

Prints Tips: Cropping and the Bleed EdgeHello, everybody! I'm renonevada. For those that don't know, one of my jobs here at deviantART HQ is as quality control for prints. I look at every print before it is purchased for the first time to make sure that it will print properly. Some of the things I look out for are copyright infringement, cropping, pixelation, and to make sure it doesn't violate other policies, such as being too pornographic.Prints Tips: Cropping and the Bleed Edge9 months ago in Art Features More Like This
I plan on making a series of journals explaining how to make sure your prints will be approved when they get to me. I know that I'm excited to see the notification letting me know a print has been sold and I want to do what I can to make sure you all see it, as well.
For this journal, I want to speak about Cropping and the Bleed Edge.
This is hands down the number 1 reason why I am forced to reject a print, which in turn will cancel a sale. Because of this, I have tried to make this journal as detailed as possible.
The Bleed Edge is the v

Welcome to the latest version of the Rock Stars of Photomanipulation interview series. I really appreciate AbbeyMarie for taking time out of her busy schedule to give us this interview!
Abbey is an American photomanipulator who has been on dA for over 4 years. To me, her gallery is filled with incredible dark, surreal, and fantasy work, crafted with unique vision and strict attention to detail. She is a must-watch for both horror enthusiasts and those who enjoy a surreal, colorful escape from reality as we know it. Be sure to check out her page!
I hope you enjoy this interview.
The first thing I want to ask is, could you please introduce yourself for those who don’t know you?
I'm Abbey! And I am chock full of awkwardness and uncertainty!
How would you describe your art and your style?
I always think dark surrealism, but they have a heavy fantasy/emotional vibe to t

3 Sites I Can't Recommend Enough3 Sites I Can't Recommend Enough3 months ago in Personal More Like This
I never liked tutorial sites. All they seemed to offer was a slew of cheap tricks and what ever lame effect was trending at the time. I believe tutorials should be singular effects that can be built upon, used across different genres, and most importantly timeless. That is what SurrealPSD offers, along with articles concerning freelance work, and photomanipulation (as opposed to graphic design). It's a shinning gem. Plus it's ran by conzpiracy, so you know it's legit.

Prints 101: Editing your PrintsHello again, it's renonevada with another article about how to make sure your prints are the best they can be.Prints 101: Editing your Prints9 months ago in Art Features More Like This
This time I'm going back to Prints 101 and tell you how to edit existing prints and add prints to deviations that already exist. This is a frequent question in the Help Desk and in the printscommunity.
Most of these instructions will apply to submitting a new deviation as well. A brief article was written about new submit here, if you would like to check that out here.
Editing your Print
If you have a deviation with a print already enabled, you will see the button below right on the deviation page, which looks like the image below.
Click that button and you will be taken directly to the Edit page for that print.
You will notice that a few sizes have been pre-selected for you. Those are defaults that deviantART chooses based on the size of you
Clarifying an Issue with Stock ResourcesThere appears to be a fair amount of misunderstanding on the subject of stock resources so what I would like to do today is attempt to clarify several issues which are of importance to the artists who generously provide stock resources to the public for use and hopefully dispel the confusion and misinformation which is beginning to circulate.Clarifying an Issue with Stock Resources8 months ago in DeviantART Announcements More Like This
The first issue at hand is in regards to your personal stock terms
Your Personal Stock Terms
Officially deviantART maintains only one "automatic" restriction and that is "No Commercial Use" and that particular restriction can easily be overridden by the actual stock provider.
We only ask a few things from you in return;

DA has an amazing tutorial section, but it's always good to gather resources from more than one place. So, here is a list of some outstanding tutorials I have stumbled upon. Some are old, some are new, but all of them are worth giving a look at!

The following walkthrough outlines the techniques and resources used to create a Giger influenced ‘Biomech’ piece. Many of the processes are very similar to our previous walkthroughs, however this type of work requires an important added ingredient: patience!!"

When selling your work...Keep in mind this:When selling your work...11 months ago in Personal More Like This
800 points = around $10.
400 points = around $5
40 points = ˘50
Do you really want to spend a long amount of time on a drawing only to receive the equivalent of half a dollar?
If you want to share things for cheap or free because you enjoy doing it than by all means do so, but what I'm saying is, don't under value yourself, and for the love of god don't do commissions for 5 or 10 points. You're working for next to nothing if you do that.
What you need to do is find a good place to sell your art so you can sell it at a reasonable fair price that's fair to both you and the buyer. There are places around on dA for this.
Commissions-R-Us say that "A group dedicated to helping people in the search of commissions to be made, allowing them to find somebody to request a commission from deviants at different ways to pay, such as using the Deviantart Points, paypal, etc.
We also have a Priority Commission List for those who are in need of money! Please check them out! "
Overpricing?I have got many complaints about my commission prices from people saying those are too expensive, especially on my latest pixel commissions.Overpricing?11 months ago in Personal More Like This
Honestly, I don't feel like I'm overpricing, and I don't think I am either.
I would like to specify that my commissions are not paid for the piece itself but for the time I spend on it. I know the price of my pixel drawings may seem expensive, considering that these are small, but I spend almost as much time on these than on my regular drawings.
My regular commission prices are of 37$(3700) and take me around 3-4h of work.
My pixel commission prices are of 30$(3000) and would take me around 3h of work.
I think being paid around 10$/h for sitting here and draw is a right amount. Considering the minimum hourly wage of where I live is of $10.15
I've been drawing for fun for a long time but now I'm really trying to make a living out of my commissions since there is nothing else I can do to earn money at the moment.
The reason why I did

ANYWAY… Pictures > Words, so I'll keep it short. Thank you all for this. Really. Honestly, it's not so bad. And more than worth it. I should be covered for my taxes with the sales I made! And honestly, even without this, you guys and girls are the best followers, friends, and people that anyone could ask for.
