There are a plethora of brushes available to you on photoshop. This guide will explain different brush settings, as well as how to install different brush packs here on deviantART. This guide is for pressure sensitive pen tablets. It is going to be much easier to do things with a tablet. Ones by Wacom are good, and you can get a bamboo for under 99$ USD.
Basic Brushes in Photoshop
It's important to stick with default ones to learn all the settings. You can do so many things with the hard round brush.
Bring up your brush palette in one of the following ways. (note I am in CS3, so the icons will look much older, but same thing. )

How to take crafting commissionsTaking crafting commissionsHow to take crafting commissions7 months ago in Art Features More Like This
Accepting commissions is very different from opening a store in a lot of ways, so I decided to write a separate article for it. However, a lot of what I explained in the article "Introduction to setting up your store" also applies to taking commissions, so make sure to read that article too!
Note: I’m writing this with crafting commissions in mind, since that’s my area of expertise. I imagine that some things could also apply to other kind of commissions, but I make no promises
What is a commission?
A commission is when a client pays you to create a specific craft with their idea or instructions.
How is a commission different from sales in my store?
When you sell something in your store, people are buying your work. When you accept a commission, people are hiring you to do
Poetic Terms and TechniquesPoetic terms and techniquesPoetic Terms and Techniques1 year ago in Literature Features More Like This
This article aims to give you a brief introduction to some poetic terms with which you can bemuse your friends and nonplus your enemies. Try and sling some of these terms into a casual conversation and watch the ensuing confusion.
If you don't want to confuse people, you could use these terms to discuss poetry like a badass
while smoking unfiltered cigarettes in a French cafe, when critiquing, or to give your own poetry a bit of a vajazzle.
These terms are arranged vaguely into alphabetical order for your convenience. Some of them will be covered in more detail in other articles throughout the week.
Alliteration (see also Sibilance)
Alliteration is the repetition of consonant sounds, often used for a specific effect in poetry.

Holy flamin' electrons, Batman! So, I awoke to something of a surprise, this morning — hence the impetus to actually post a journal entry on here! — discovering over 1000 messages in my Feedback list, today, thanks to the free PS brushes I posted, yesterday ( http://fav.me/d6g805t ). Yeah. Didn't quite expect that. I mean, I've been using those brushes for ages, and didn't consider them all that special. But, it's gratifying to know others like them, too.Holy flamin' electrons, Batman!1 year ago in Personal More Like This
In any case, I'm under no illusions. One surprisingly popular deviation does not a trend make. And, given I've only posted something like a dozen deviations in total in the past year, since joining the site, it should be fairly obvious I'm not exactly the most prolific artist out there. At least, not when it comes to posting my work. So, I'm not expecting hordes to be regularly beating a path to my door. (Still, the attention's been kinda fun, I must confess. They say "page views" is only a number — and it's true; it doesn't mean much — but it's a fun n

Need textures? We had a feature of drawing references yesterday, so let's take a look at textures now. I must admit that I'm a total freak when it comes to this topic. I love textures, I love making them and I love seeing them everywhere. So you make cute crafts, and probably someone offered you money for them. Maybe you need the money, and if you're like me, you need it to buy more crafting supplies. Whatever the reason, starting your own crafty business is a decisions that you should take seriously... it's not as easy as opening an Etsy account and setting some random prices for your work. There is a lot of things to consider to keep the business going, your money safe, your name clean, and your costumers happy.
By no means this is an absolute guide, merely a few guidelines of things I've found important or questions I get asked often by people interested in opening their own business. Most of this tips are intended for online selling, but they should apply for other ways of selling too. I will probably do more detailed guides in the future, as I learn more myself.
To begin with, don't forget to research as much as you can! If you're rea

Introduction to setting up your storeIntroduction to setting up your storeIntroduction to setting up your store7 months ago in Art Features More Like This
I have been there, deciding to sell your work is a scary decision. What do I do? How do I sell? How do I accept money? What do I do so that I don't lose money? What if no one buys my work? I went through every emotion and scary thought before I began. Three years after I opened my store I finally feel comfortable giving advice about it. This is a huge topic and I could write tons of info about it, so I'll begin with this introduction and build up on future articles. I will also write a second article about taking commissions, wait for it later this week!
Last year I wrote some guidelines with some more information about selling your work online, please consider reading it too! This article will focus on setting up your store.
Disclaimer: I'm not the most successful online seller, and I don't intend to be - I'm pretty busy with my studies, and most of my business comes from custom commissions, no

People of Austria I have a mission for you!I was just informed earlier today that my work was featured in a newspaper from Austria yesterday, Friday 15th. I WANT THAT NEWSPAPER. I NEED THAT NEWSPAPER. I was told it was a small article but it doesn't matter, it's the first time I'm published so I want to own it Edit: I don't know which newspaper was it! All I know is that it's from Austria and the date.People of Austria I have a mission for you!3 years ago in Art Features More Like This

In exchange I will give you a $20 giftcard from for my store, you can pick whatever you want. I don't know how expensive the shipping to Mexico is so if it's more expensive than $10 send me the receipts and I will give you more store credit. I want you to receive double the value from me than you spend.

And to everyone else, if you could please fav this article so it gets more attention I would really really really appreciate it thank you! Also if yo
Drawing tips - tutorialHello watchersDrawing tips - tutorial1 year ago in Personal More Like This
Some people ask me how I learned to draw and what tips I can give them! So I wrote a tutorial and hope it will help! Here are my tips for you to become a better drawer!
First of all a good drawing stands with good materials. Good paper (no copy paper) and good pencils. If you're not sure, the expensive ones are mostly pretty good! For graphite I use Staedtler Mars Lumograph and for colour Faber-Castell "Polycromos".You need to use different numbers of pencils: 4H for very light areas and 6B for the dark areas. A big contrast in a drawing makes a better drawing! You can't make a good drawing with one HB pencil. You need a 6B or 4B to create more depth in the drawing.Choose a good picture. The greatest drawer in the world can't make a good drawing from a bad picture. A high-resolution image is necessary to see all the details! Next to the high-resolution, it has to be an interesting picture. The result could be a beautiful drawing, however a boring image wouldn't attract a
