DA Artist Star of the Day!I have said this many times, but I will say it again: I love Deviant Art. Sure, there is plenty of stuff on DA that is unappealing or even appalling to me, but that's true of every area of this planet. People are people. Still, at its core, it's a community of artists, so that's a place I want to hang out.. Most here are young, eager and wanting the chance to do that thing that every artists desires: make art for a living.DA Artist Star of the Day!2 years ago in Personal More Like This
I have been blessed in my career and some of that blessing has spread to my little corner of DA by having over 15,000 Deviant Watchers. There are plenty here that have more than that, but I like the ones I have. So, I've come up with an idea to spread that love and hopefully get you 15, 000 to get to know some of your fellow DA followers. For the next couple weeks I am going to spotlight a Deviant Art Artist of the Day!
Here's the way it will work: If you want to spotlighted in my next DA
Do Artists Matter?Do we matter?Do Artists Matter?2 years ago in Personal More Like This
I'm specifically talking about "us" as designers, artists, or creative people. Do artists matter?
I have two personal stories that have helped me gauge and answer that question for myself. I hope they help you too.
(SIDE NOTE: I believe in a God and I believe that God loves me and leads my path but that I have free will and can turn from his leading and do my "own thing". Both of these stories have a TON of "God flavoring" that would make them much longer, so know that they are there if you want to read between the lines and find them. In short, both stories are answers to prayer.)
After 9/11 I felt worthless. Making cartoons just wasn't important in the new post 9/11 world. Firemen, policemen, construction workers, teachers, healthcare workers, architects- really, anyone that contributes to rebuilding our world and its infrastructure, those people had important jobs to do. We

A Note To Myself
Jumbles and tumbles of words, mockingbirds
There's nothing new here, fly away
Find the edge of the day and lift it up
from the darkness
Build a city of dreams and live in it
Construct monuments to the Somethingness
The something that exists once you've peeled
all the layers away
Stop the yammering and hammering of worn-out ideas
Circling the same spot where nothing grows
Find the light and bathe in it until an Eden-like

When I first sold LMS to Paramount, a lot of people asked me: "How much money did you get?" "You're probably rich now, right?"
I mean, the solid gold mansion I bought was just a little gift to myself...but...
Ever since I was little, I've known I wanted to draw. From the day my parents put a pencil in my hand, this was my future. I just knew it, I had that gut feeling. So I stuck to it, and thankfully it took me to heights I'd have never imagined possible. Now with my new book Redemption heading off to studios soon for a hopeful movie package, I can't wait to see where this new road takes me.
That said, there's something else that tops all of this.
The other night I went out to visit my girlfriend's cousin and her family. Incredibly kind people with very sweet kids. Other than the two parents, there were 3 kids, but the one who caught my interest was the eight-year old boy, Diego.
Diego, shy, tiny, slender, reminded me of myself when I was his a

Sammur-amat is one of those deviants who goes out of her way to make everyone ELSE feel special; she's a gem, and you should definitely peruse her lovely gallery. Terror wins.Son of a BITCH! SONY PUSSED OUT ON US!!!Terror wins.5 months ago in Personal More Like This
For f**k’s sake. Terrorists are not under your bed. They are not hiding around every corner. They are not in the seat next to you. The few that are out there only win if you start to think they might be.
In 2005, a gaggle of weak-minded twits blew themselves up on the London Underground. I and 1.2 BILLION other passengers per year still use it. Could another attack happen? Of course. But so could fire, flood, collapse or accident. You could get hit by a bus as you exit the station! There are a thousand-and-one terrible things that could happen to you today and, I assure you, unless you live in some third world sh*thole, the odds of a random yahoo causing you physical harm for political or religious reason is one of the least likely to occur.
By watching The Interview in theatres, you would have been more likely to choke on a popcorn kernel than get caught up in any kind of threatene

DeviantART staffers continued showering visitors with stress balls, collectible pins, and swapped stories of their favorite deviantART experiences. It's a long day, but hearing some of the inspirational stories that originate from our humble corner of the Internet are truly inspiring.
Our final Comic-Con panel was held at 12:15 pm, and the topic was "How-To: Creator vs. Audience." Ron Martino (techgnotic) led the panel, which talked about how the digital nature of storytelling on deviantART is changing the way the world interacts with its audiences. Alongside him were Wenqing Yan (yuumei), Brian Kesinger (BrianKesinger), Dave Elliott (DeevElliott), and Hal Hefne

Why did JK Rowling Even Write Harry Potter?WAIT, DON'T HURT ME!!Why did JK Rowling Even Write Harry Potter?3 years ago in Personal More Like This
The title of my journal is the title someone else's Tumblr post that i came across earlier, and because I'm bored, i decided to type out the post (misspellings included!) for the DA community to read --->
"Look, I've been a Twihard for a wile, and resently I decided to try Harry Potter. It's just dumm. When Stephanie Meyer wrote Twilght, she had a messige in mindthat we should find love, even it it's hard too get to. She tells us wondurfel things like how to make important choise and how hard being young can be. All Harry Potter is is a bunch of stupi guys with wands running around trying to defeat Snape. I mean, is there any writing style? Nope. Any character development? Nope. Twilight got 5 movies, and the last one is split into 2 becuz people actually want it. Harry potter got like 3 movies. Idk, I don't even care. I'm just saying, there's no point to Harry Potter and it's dumb, just like everything in England that gets put in a book. Oh a
Tools of the Trade: Choosing StockWhat to Look ForTools of the Trade: Choosing Stock1 year ago in Personal More Like This
When it comes to stock images there is no better time to be picky. With both free and purchased stock, be discerning. Once you start being picky about what stock you use, and even better when you start using premium stock, you will notice your quality of work will increase a significant amount. Better ingredients means better results.
You want a crisp clear image with a very very low amount of noise, no motion blur caused by a shaky camera, and completely no artificial effects and edits. Noise is the most common issue, but also the easiest to deal with (to an extent) as long as the image is a good size. Which brings us to our next quality to look for.
The bigger the better. The bigger it is the easier it is to add details, fix defects, and overall just a million times easier to work with. In fact, unless you are a 100% web only hobbyist low resolution images are basically unusable. There is nothing
