This will probably make you angry, but if it does - share it and speak your mind to those who matter.
I would like to remind the readers of this article that it is my opinion, and that my complaint is with the COVERAGE of this news story. I do not know enough about the actual crime to comment on it and would therefore prefer not to. My issue is with the coverage of this news story and many others like it across the globe. I hope you will share this article, or your own thoughts on irresponsible journalism today, preferably with the broadcasters themselves if you believe that responsible journalism should take priority over entertaining journalism.

Marketing Materials For ArtistsEDIT: Well butter my biscuits, some of my gifs disappeared into the interwebs. I'll remedy this soon!Marketing Materials For Artists1 year ago in Art Features More Like This
It’s no secret that us artists aren’t great at selling ourselves. The creative process is so much work it’s easy to assume that your work will be able to sell itself. Sometimes it can, but that’s not usually the case. Even if you aren’t interested in going commercial with your career (and there is absolutely nothing wrong with going that route), it is important have professional materials to present to clients, employers and galleries. If you aren’t interested in being “full time” with selling your artwork, I think it would still be good to consider putting together marketing materials as a means of creating good client relations.
This journal will include a number of things you may need in marketing yourself, but also if you are applying to art schools or for various jobs in art. I would also like to note that you d
The Enduring Enigma of CollageFebruary 21, 2013/by techgnoticThe Enduring Enigma of Collage2 years ago in Art Features More Like This
Collage is one of those art forms that immediately sets off heated debate about our most fundamental ideas and visceral feelings about the very essence of art itself.
Turn of the century troublemakers Georges Braque and Pablo Picasso began enhancing their paintings with glued on bits of cut out fabric and other materials, thus neatly blurring the line between the art categories of painting and sculpture. They shifted the emphasis or “meaning” of their painted images beyond an attempted interpretation of the painted “text” to thinking about the artists’ “process” – something wholly separate from the paintings themselves.
And with that a whole new Rubic’s Cube of basic questio

There is no cosmic law that states artists must suffer many long years and demeaning day-jobs before a window of opportunity cracks open just enough to hop on through.
Fellow deviant Brian Kesinger is a case in point.
His first “day-job” in 1996—he was hired straight out of his senior year of high school—was drawing Tarzan for Disney.
Brian stayed at Disney and he considers every day there a part of his ongoing education as an artist. He most recent

Right brain warriors in the new age will be the coveted candidates ordained to lead and guide us; lifting the torch to light the way forward into a brave new beautiful world.
Artists have always feared that they are unappreciated and that the march of progress comes only from business, science and their machines. 1984 was imagined by an artist projecting these exact fears. Our guest essayist suggests the computer will never be our master, but only the super high speed counting machine it was meant to be leaving humans with only one pure task— being creative.

HTML Text Codes, Tips and Tricks for dAAbout a year ago I posted a news article called "Making Your Comments Look Nice". Since then I have found out many other codes that I think would be helpful to share with other deviants who may not know them, or are just looking for some new codes to spiff up their journals and comments! However, I can't say I have ALL of the codes available on deviantART. I just have posted the ones I have heard of. If you have any new ones not listed here, feel free to comment with them.HTML Text Codes, Tips and Tricks for dA5 years ago in Art Features More Like This
You can also check out the deviantART FAQ, which has info on these codes as well: :faq104:
To start things off, let's learn how to make these HTML codes work (:
In order to make a code work, you must use this format:
For example, if I put b into the format I showed you, it will come out as .
This will then allow me to type in bold font!
If you only want to put a code onto ONE word, you would have to do this: My name is Bob, nice to meet you.

Happy Chinese New Year 2015
The main difference between the Western and Chinese zodiacs is that in the West, each month of the year has its own sign, whereas the Chinese zodiac is made up of 12–year cycles, with each year having its own sign.
The date of the Chinese New Year differs annually, reflecting the second new moon after the winter solace, (falling usually between January 21 and February 19).

Artist Alley for BeginnersHave you had a table at Artist Alley before? If you haven't I'm going to give you a list of suggestions for manning your table for the first time. These suggestions are not in any particular order.Artist Alley for Beginners5 years ago in Art Features More Like This
1. Do not go overboard.
You may think your artwork and crafts are really great, but it always pays to be just a little bit cautious when having your first artist alley table. The reason for this is simple, you have to test your work in the consumer market. If you become really excited and buy 100 prints for your first convention and only 5 get sold... well you are out a lot of money. If you have many prints have small quantities printed, such as 5 - 10 prints and keep track of what prints sell this will be a good indicator for what prints are most popular.
2. Be reasonable on your prices.
If you are new to the art world you may think you can make a killing selling anime/manga prints. It can be tempting to want to charge $5, $10, $15 even $20 for one of your

I love water-based media! What is “waterbased media” you say? Well that would be any kind of water-soluble ink or paint! There are many advantages to working with water-based media, the main one being that many water-based paints and inks are not extremely dangerous to work with (in comparison to oils which are not good to get on your hands people…wear gloves!), there is no need for special clean up or a specific work environment (on that note, please PLEASE do not paint with oils in your living room). Another advantage to working with water-based media is quick drying times. This is a pro especially if you do illustrative works. A third pro to water-based media is that they are somewhat cost effective for us starving artists. Here are some types of water-based media: watercolor, ink, latex paint, and acrylic paint. My favorite type of water-based media is watercolor. Tip: you don’t need t

Lesson 1: Terminology/Vocabulary
What is a Doll?
It might help to begin this article by telling you what you're reading about! A doll, or as we call them on DeviantArt, Digital Dolls, are small graphics, usually pixel-art, of people and characters. People create these by taking a base body another person has made, and creating art on it - designing clothes and hair, and turning the blank template into whatever kind of character they can imagine.
I will go over dolls more in detail, but that's the very basic description. Please, read on!
What is a Base?
Bases! You're probably familiar with this term. That's right, those pixel line-arts of bald/naked people that
