Entry for the Lexus IS Design contest. The challenge was to create an exterior modification for the 2014 Lexus IS 250 Sport that would stick out at the SEMA show in Las Vegas, and be possible within a ten week period.
The basic idea was to accentuate the elegant design motifs the car already had, rather than try to work against them. The red accents are carefully applied to bring attention to the strongest lines and shapes on the car. The contrast of white and black was also a theme, as they are opposites and stand out against each other. The scale pattern adds a little texture, roughly mirroring the iconic mesh grill without overpowering the other elements.
The assets in the Lexus package were used as a base. Free licensed textures were used in the background, but all other modifications and textures were made from scratch by me.
Following the smooth and angular design theme that current Lexus concepts express today, my concept interprets this theme with custom body panels to create more dynamic, aggressive and artistic forms.

My entry for the Lexus IS Design Contest. I went with a design that's exaggerates the existing body work, while adding elements that push its bold and provocative styling further.
Changes include: - Aggressive new front and rear fascias - Fender intake with bold side skirts - Black chrome accents - Smoked taillights and darkened headlights - Larger 10-spoke black rims on low-profile performance tires - Ice Silver metallic paint
This was a ton of fun, and while my process was a little roundabout, I'm happy with the result. I sketched over the photos, created vector outlines, then painted it. I modeled the rims in 3D, which was the most difficult part of the process, trying to get the lighting of the models to match. But yeah, I really enjoyed this project, since I'm a huge car buff. Plus it was enjoyable to work on something different.
This Lexus IS 250 F Sport: Race Star received the full race treatment with aggressive splitters, canards, and carbon wing. Custom rotary forged flow formed wheels keep the rotational mass as light as possible while maintaining strength for racing. Vibrant Citron Lime Metallic paint with Chili Red accents keeps this IS 250 F Sport looking freshly squeezed on the track or on the show room floor. Race accessories complete the final look.
