So here are some WIP pictures of my vambraces and hidden blade. Please note they are not done yet.
Not something I'm very happy with, for some reason it just seems off for me (and I'm not only talking about a slightly to large emblem). However I do like the leather I used, it was allready worn down to give it a more weathered look.
I did some research on it this week and came up with this work on progress. It's actually still missing an eagle head as third layer. It should be located betweed the knife-end-tip and the handle. I'm pretty pleased with the blade itself, the handle part not so much.
Cuff (white vambrace XD):
I noticed to many people having really sloppy cuffs. They tend to be very loose and don't look much to the reference. That's why I decided to make a solid vambrace of it.
I allready had some experience with leather lining so that wasn't the hardest part. Hardest was probably figuring out the "right" way to make the buttonholes and connecting the cilinder together (I used my sowingmachine very creative for this problem to tackle).
Anyways, it is being kept in shape with two layers of leather (not counting the lining) which works pretty well in my opinion .
The last work in progress picture you will see from me. The costume has to be done in 2 days and I'm almost done . Someone who viseted wanted to see the costume, so I put on what I had.
- Belts need to be placed properly and I need to secure them in place. - The hood I'm wearing is actually just a template I was working on. Thing isn't done by far XD. - I need to weather the tunic and shirt, it does give you guys something to compare the final version with. - You can't see them, but it's worth mentioning that I still need to get the boots done XD. - Obvious missing details are obvious.
Fire away with your comments, anything can still be fixed at the moment XD. To bad the hidden blades can't be seen at the pic .
Started working on a second hidden blade. I'm still far from happy with the handle, but the rest seems to do it's job. I've started looking at a local hardware store for some kind of material I would like to use. There I stumbled upon some strips to act as a base for concrete block walls. I guess it's pvc, but it was straigth and not to hard to work with (unlike plexiglass which is a real pain in the ass to work with). I could even cut it with sizzors XD. Anyways: First pic is the material I used (besides that I used old plastic packing, plexiglass for the actual blade, leather for the handle and some paint. The second picture is a wip picture of the baseplate with the second layer of paint and the handle wip (the plastic base wrapped around with black leather). The rest of the photo's explain themselves.
As said, I need to mount the pieces together (isn't too hard). There is no mechanismn at all to expand or retract, it's made for looks not function. I still don't like the handle. I still need to add some minor details to the base plate and for the people who didn't notice: the straps at the front are disconnected from the emblem since the vambrace needed some work too.
Why am I posting this? I would very like to have some tips from you guys on how to improve the handle.
