Young Young Justice“Robin we need yo-” Aqualad tried to finish his sentence as quickly as he could but the psychic link went down before he could finish.
“Aqualad, come in Aqualad. M’gann? Artemis? Superboy?” Robin tried to use his com-link to communicate with his team but to no avail. He turned to Kid Flash, “Can you reach them?’
“Nope, should we abandon our post and try to find them?”
“It sounds like that’s what Aqualad wanted us to do.”
“Yea, I mean we already took out the guards here.”
“You go see if you can find them. I’ll make sure that the target doesn’t come this way.”
“Deal,” KF ran off but was back seconds later with a surprised and amused look on his face. “The targets gone and the team’s fine.”
Robin punched the nearest tree. “How did he get away?”

“I saw grandpa on T.V.!”
“Did you?” Dick faked a smile. He wasn’t surprised that she had seen Bruce on T.V. He was either making an appearance as Bruce Wayne, Gotham’s playboy, or they were reporting a Batman sighting.

Dick nodded, “Look at Superboy’s eyes. I think it’s dangerous for someone’s eyes to be that wide.”
Wally laughed, “I know and Artemis actually stopped her baby rampage.”
“I bet Aqualad would be thanking us if he wasn’t distracted by the movie.”
“Dick, watch M’gann, I don’t want her hovering into the TV.”
“Why do you think I’m holding her?”
“Robin, Kid Flash,” Dick and Wally turned when they heard Bruce’s growl behind them.
Dick turned down the volume on the TV and looked at his mentor, “Did you find an antidote?”
“Yes, I’m not sure how long it’ll take to affect the team, but it should work.”

As the small boy in his arms shook, trembled, quivered, any other form of the word, he just held him. As his grip tightened on the fabric of his shirt to the point where it almost ripped in two, he just held him. As the hot tears poured down his flushed cheeks in streams and choked sobs tore their way out of his throat; as his knees tucked in closer and closer to his chest, and the pain in his heart became nearly unbearable, Wally just held him. Every cry cracked the red-headed teen's heart in a way that he never thought was possible. It hurt. It all hurt, ached, and despite what he let on, he was near his breaking point as well.
But he couldn't right now. He couldn't let it all out. At that moment his best friend needed some kind of stability, something solid to hold onto, and he'd be damned if he didn't give him that now. He didn't care if he'd be stuck in Dick's dark room all night. He didn't care if hunger was clawing at his stomach or that sleep was seducing h

Robin and M'gann were sitting next to him in the hospital bay, getting their vitals checked over. Batman had insisted upon the three of them getting checked out, mostly because M'gann was mentally worn out and J'onn hadn't planned on Robin and Wally dying the way they did.
The disintegration rays were designed to be relatively painless, but explosions, Wally had learned, were most definitely not.
Batman was standing next to his protégé, a scowl contorting his face as he took note of Robin's elevated heart rate and high body temperature. The Boy Wonder, however, had returned to his normally chipper self astonishingly quickly, recovering even a

Dick stuck his tongue out at him. Wally snorted and shut the door in his face, zipping around to the driver’s side. They were acting as civilians today… mostly.

The team had been called to a mission a little after midnight, while they were all still in their beds. Except Robin, of course, who had been on patrol. The little bird had bounded in and had literally shaken all his teammates out of bed, wincing when he discovered that Wally slept in only his boxers. His red, Flash-logo-and-heart-covered boxers.
The mission had been in New York, and while that wasn't very far from Happy Harbor, it was much further than any of the heroes were willing to go that night. M'gann tired and drowsy, had clumsily called up the bioship, nearly running over a yawning Artemis.
The onjective had been to stage a drug bust in Manhattan, while capturing the man in charge of it all, some thug going by the name of Andrew Marletti. Normally, the police would have been called in to deal with such trivial matters, but there had been rumors circulating around of giant, misshaped men who had taken this drug, and Batman had a hunch that it h

Robin hadn't responded to any of his calls. Why hadn't he responded? Robin always answered his comm, and in the few times he didn't he promptly picked up his cell phone and apologized for his comm unit being broken.
The only time he had never responded at all was when he had gotten captured by Two Face and had been beaten for hours, until he was barely alive by the time Batman had found him.
So yes, Bruce's paranoia was completely justified. Immediately, his mind began spinning with all the possible ways Robin could be avoiding his call. Maybe he was with Wally, organizing some sort of lethal and crazy prank, and they didn't want to be disturbed. Or maybe he was just currently Zeta-tubing somewhere, shorting out the comm's reception. Or maybe he was in Gotham, shivering in the clutches of the Joker or Penguin or somebody e

A carton of eggs, a gallon of milk, a tub of low-cal, fat-free plain yogurt, and a little bag of carrot sticks, already opened and half-eaten. That was it. That. Was. It.
"Don't Meg and Supey eat anything?" Wally cried, one hand going to his head and yaking on his hair in frustration. Growling a bit to himself, he grabbed the bag of carrot sticks and popped a few in his mouth, chewing angrily before gagging and sticking out his tongue. Scraping the half-digested orange goop into the nearest trashcan, Wally angrily threw the bag of carrots onto the counter, grumbling as he left the kitchen.

Batman was snarling at the team, but most specifically, at Robin. The mission had been long and hard, with three days and two nights invested in what ultimately turned out to be a failure. The goal was surprisingly simple: get in, get the sample, get out. Unfortunately, it hadn't gone so smoothly. An alarm had been tripped at the warehouse they had been investigating, somehow slipping by Robin's electronic precautions. Armed gunmen had immediately arrived, shooting and blowing things up until there wasn't much left.
The team, bloody and bruised and battered, had managed to escape with their lives, but hadn't managed to get a sample of the chemical they were supposed to be investigating. Their mentors, frantic and worried, had beamed the team up to the Watchtower, where they recieved immediate medical care.
Batman was furious, but worst of all, he blamed Robin.

Robin groaned, he was sore, and slowly his eyes were coming into focus from the darkness. An apparent contusion threatened his motor skills along with his sight. Not much could be seen two feet passed him, but the one thing he could perceive was his favorite person in the whole world, Kid Flash. His once dazed eyes cleared to the point where Dick could make out their location to be in an abandoned office. Desks were chipped, walls were pealing, and outdated records had been were scattered around the floor.
"KF?" Rob held his throbbing head in the palm of his right hand as he jeered "why is it always me that wakes up like this? when was the last time I had to wake you up?" Wally helped Dick to sit up; he hadn't realized how tense his muscles were until they convulsed with a fury.

After that, no-one wanted to go home.
None of the team needed to say anything. Fighting together, dying together, had removed the need for words. Now they wanted to just live together, just for now.
One by one their mentors tried to collect them to leave, and discovered their protégés had no intention of going anywhere. One by one they frowned, cajoled, asked "Are you sure you're okay?" a million times, offered to stay a million times. One by one they were assured the teens had faced doom and death together, they could survive on their own in the base for one night.
One by one they left, until finally, finally, the six were alone together.
They didn't talk much. No-one smiled. Any laughs were reflexive, and quickly stifled, echoing too loudly for comfort.
They watched TV for a while, the silliest, cheesiest kids' shows they could find, wincing away from even ridiculously fake dangers and blood

Or at least that's what he tried to tell himself as he forced himself out of bed. The floor froze under his feet, but at the same time, he was sweating buckets- how the hell did that work? He pushed the thought out of his mind, taking the entire comforter off the bed and wrapping it around himself. He then opened the door and ventured out into the Secret Sanctum. The halls were empty, leaving his footsteps to echo off the walls.
At last though, he made it to the kitchen, pulling out a box of fruit loops, a bowl, milk, and a banana- Batman always encouraged him to have a little fruit with his breakfast. The TV was turned on and the cartoons commenced. Robin had to admit though, he kinda missed chilling with Alfred in the mornings, one would never guess that the butler still loved cartoons

So that's just what I did.
I had this bird once.
When I first met him he was so small and innocent; he was so vulnerable.
But, as our friendship grew, so did he.
When I needed company he was always there, happy and chirping.
When I needed someone to talk to he was always there, listening.
But as much as I loved that little bird, I knew that someday he would have to leave me. He would need to find his own place in the world.
I was always hoping that place would be with me.
But I knew I still needed him and he knew it too. So he didn't leave me.
Not until I pushed him away.
I pushed him, I made him spread his wings and fly away. Because I knew that was what he needed.
To find his own place in the world.
But that place wasn't with me.

The bickering between Kid Flash and Robin was nothing new. The visits Robin made to the mountain were getting rarer, especially since school had started in Gotham and all the criminals were getting rowdier again; Robin often found himself spending more time at Arkham Asylum than his own home. But even then, he still managed to find a few minutes every once in a while to stop in and visit Mt. Justice. Getting annoyed by Wally was hardly unusual (since the speedster did seem to know the locations of everybody's buttons and exactly how hard to push them) and usually it wasn't serious. The two would fight, then laugh, then fight some more, then get distracted by something entirely humorless and mundane, and then laugh some more, and then go home.
But today it was different. Robin was...whining? And why was Wally laughing ahead of schedule? And what was that strange sound in the background? And why did it sound like...them?

"Black Canary feels that you have all learned hand-to-hand combat adequately."
Robin snickered as quietly as he could when he noticed Batman's gaze rest on Kid Flash.
"-but now you need to master weaponry and stealth."
"Yes!" Robin burst out, turning to his left and slapping a high-five with an all-too-ready Artemis, both of them grinning as they did so.
"Today, you'll be focusing on fighting without the use of powers, as preperation for any future situation where your abilities would have been rendered useless." Batman clarified. He raised h

His brow furrowed with worry, he pondered about the last few days.
Artemis had had her 'funeral', but instead of her body being in her grave, they had put a very, very lifelike dummy in an effort to convince everyone that she was actually Well, dead.
He had kept away from his teammates, hoping that they would think his aversion was because he was mourning, when in fact he was being eaten up by guilt.
How could he have done this? To his friends, the League, Artemis and Wally even?
The more he thought about it, the more Dick was sure that his fear was realizing: He was becoming like Bruce.
It wasn't that he didn't love the man like he was his father; but he was still scared of what would happen if he tried to become him, a fear that had haunted Nightwing for years.

The normally bouncy vigilante was drooping, dragging his feet in a defeated sort of shuffle that Wally had never seen before. He was dressed in overly baggy sweatpants and a bulky sweater, and his hair was in disarray. His nose was running and red, and although Wally couldn't see his eyes behind the sunglasses, he was willing to bet that they were pink and watery.

Light from flickering flames illuminated the faces of the young team who sat around a warm fire. The soft orange glow complimented the blue light of the moon that watched over them from the inky sky above. The sand from which they sat upon was still warm from the afternoon sun while the ocean breeze that drifted off the waves cooled the night air.
The sound of the ocean waves made themselves at home on the shore and it gave a calming backdrop of noise. Laughter and smiles were exchanged among the group as they bonded. This night was a special night, a rare summer night where no fighting or battling had to be done. Things were quiet in the criminal world, for at least tonight anyway and the team spent their extra time just being with one another.
Except for one member.
