"Take Only Photographs, Leave Only Footprints." - Urban Explorers Creed
Sometimes it's easy to forget the things around us that were once iconic and useful. In everyday life that could include a multitude of household objects, bits and bobs, clothes, gadgets - all sorts. But in Photography - a specific aspect of Photography - people close doors and board up buildings sometimes with little or no notice. They erect a fence around that old asylum and ship everything out or they install security guards at the boundaries of an army camp. Those places get forgotten and one day there will be nobody left that will remember them. That's where Urban Exploration comes in.
I'm not telling you to go out and scale the wall of your nearest derelict hospital in the name of photography. It takes a certain kind of person (and agility!) to do that anyway, but there are many depths to U

Google homepage art I did by jimlee00
For those of you keeping current, the Google logo on the Google homepage is occasionally altered, sometimes to bring attention to an event, sometimes to celebrate famous artists and scientists on their birthdays. These clever alterations are “doodles” and they are often created by guest artists.

I ask that all my commissioners read this and agree with my terms before commissioning me.
These are the starting prices with examples of each different type of commission. If your commission is larger and more complex, it will cost more; likewise, if it is very small and considerably simpler than the examples I show here I will work with you to price it lower than the stated price.
To have a background added or have your art done on special patterned paper costs extra. Please let me know if you need either of these things done and I will arrange it with you.
Pencil Sketch, one character: $20, each additional character in the same picture, only $7 - Examples:

Horse Soldier, Horse SoldierI'm a hussar, I'm a Hun, I'm a wretched EnglishmanHorse Soldier, Horse Soldier1 year ago in Art Features More Like This
Routing Bonaparte at Waterloo
I'm a dragoon on a dun, I'm a Cossack on the run
I'm a horse soldier, timeless, through and through
I'm a horse soldier, eternal, through and through
I's with Custer and the 7th in 76 or 77
Scalped at Little Big Horn by the Sioux
And the tears and devistation of a once proud warrior nation
This I know cause I was riding with them too
I drank mare's blood on the run when I rode with the Great Khan
On the frozen Mongol steppe while at his height
I's a White Guard, I's a Red Guard, I's the Tsar's own palace horse guard

Don't Go to art school!I've been seeing this around the DA journals all day, and it sounds like my kind of journal! It's written by an extremely talented environment artist named Noah Bradley. So I finally read it, and yeah, Noah is right on top of it. Check it out, and lets start the conversation about art and education in this country:Don't Go to art school!2 years ago in Personal More Like This
Don't go to art school
The traditional approach is failing us. It's time for a change.
I'VE HAD IT.
I will no longer encourage aspiring artists to attend art school. I just won't do it. Unless you're given a full ride scholarship (or have parents with money to burn), attending art school is a waste of your money.
I have a diploma from the best public art school in the nation. Prior to that I attended the best private art school in the nation. I'm not some flaky, disgruntled art graduate, either. I have a quite successful career, thankyouverymuch.
But I am s

My favourite poem ever :-
Where the mind is without fear and the head is held high;
Where knowledge is free;
Where the world has not been broken up into fragments by narrow domestic walls;
Where words come out from the depth of truth;
Where tireless striving stretches its arms towards perfection;
Where the clear stream of reason has not lost its way into the dreary desert sand of dead habit;
Where the mind is led forward by thee into ever-widening thought and action --
Into that heaven of freedom, my Father, let my country awake.
BRUSHESI was asked a couple of time what kind of brushes I use…BRUSHES3 years ago in Personal More Like This
Well - basically I have a lot, but just a few that I really use for everything.
So here we go with my so called "main_brush_set".
Those brushes are my all time favorites and used pretty much on a daly base.
A few brushes are from the web and some a selfmade or self tweaked.
Hope you have the same fun as I have using those brushes.
The brushes could be found on my Blog (http://malosart.blogspot.de/)
Free teaThank you to everybody who has sent me notes concerning my works being used & altered without permission. I'm very aware of the distress it causes to some & I tend to not over react if I find such things. If I search my images on tin-eye or Google I will find my work being used, altered & sold promoting all kinds of media without my prior permission. Years ago I would be spitting feathers and getting into all kinds of pointless internet 'war of word' battles with some quite unsavoury people - not worth the stress.Free tea11 months ago in Personal More Like This
My advice to you if you see your work being used without permission is to contact the user privately & politely ask them to remove your work, failing that there are breach of copyright forms which can be submitted legally to aid in the removal of the work.
In my experience most will remove the work if asked politely, some people aren't fully aware of copyright issues & just see a nice picture they want to use in their projects. The other ones who sell and

Celtic Art - A Look In History
Written by KovoWolf for projecteducate
There is something so unique and so humbling about Celtic art that we can immediately recognize it when we see it, though it is difficult to truly describe as a single 'medium'. With intricate designs, swirls, and beautiful knotwork however Celtic art is also a medium that you can recognize when you see it. Because Celtic art covers a huge expanse of time, geography and throughout various cultures, it can present some difficulty when trying to term or define what Celtic art truly is.
Celtic art and culture date back as far as the 8th century B.C generally refers to the culture of the European Iron Age from around 1000 BC onwards, until the conquest by the Roman Empire. The Early Medieval art of Britain and Ireland, which produced the Book Of Kells and other masterpieces that are well known today and can be associated with "ce

The Resurrection of Mara Jade
Like millions of kids growing up in the 1980s, I spent many happy hours imagining what it would be like in the rosy future when George Lucas made new Star Wars movies. It was almost as difficult and delicious to imagine as adulthood.
Return of the Jedi came out in 1983, but many, many years would pass before we had new stories. In the meantime, we created our own stories with fan art, fan
Photomanipulation walkthroughStep 1: Idea (message, composition)Photomanipulation walkthrough3 years ago in Personal More Like This
You decided that you want to make a photomanipulation. But what to make? There are so many photomanipulations already out there and mostly with the same theme. So you decide you don't just want to stick a pretty girl onto a beautiful background. No you want to be original and have your manipulation portray a message everyone can relate to.
Think of things that are important to you, that lay close to your heart. They can be emotions (love, hate, sadness, anger) or experiences, hobbies (art, sports etc), things you are struggling with. Or they can be global themes like (beauty, money, economy, eating disorders, war, relationships etc.)
Of course if you choose to portray something as love there are many ways to do so. Do you want it to be a surreal depiction of love, or dark, fantasy, sci-fi, conceptual, humourous... your choice will of course decide the whole 'feel' of the image.
So choose wisely as they say.
Now that you have your theme you nee

This feature will be rolled out to everyone over the next few days.
DeviantART's thumbnail images just got bigger and better! Starting today, we've increased the size of deviantART's thumbnails and, by popular demand from the community, we're also giving you a "Thumbnail Grid" mode.
Here's a run-down of what's changed:
We've made all thumbnails bigger!
