Artists's Toolbox Project Educate Week: TabletsTablet questions. Anyone who hangs out in the digital art forum or the hardware forums sees these threads constantly, and they pop up other places to. Which tablet should I get? Is it worth it to get a tablet? What's a good starter tablet? This article will cover the basics of drawing tablets: what they are, what they do, if you need one, and which one you should get.Artists's Toolbox Project Educate Week: Tablets1 year ago in Deviant Events More Like This
What is the difference between a drawing tablet and a touchscreen tablet such as an Ipad? Can I draw with both?
To put it simply, a drawing tablet is used solely for art related endeavors, there's no apps or other functions involved. You can't stick a calender and fruit ninja on a drawing tablet. But a touchscreen tablet has tons of different functions and is all touch controlled.
So, can you use a touchscreen tablet for art? Technically, yes. But it can be challenging. Touchscreen tablets aren't as precise and the apps you can get to draw with aren't generally very extensive. This is fine

Here is a little bit about finding the right size of characters in the perspective of the scene.
For example, one of the thousands of my unfinished work "Resurrection." The image below will guide you.
1. Select the background and characters of the scene
2. Hold the line of the horizon and set the first character, which is built according to the scene. Join in the triangle height of human growth and the point of intersection with the horizon (the green triangle). Now, according to this triangle, we can easily determine the size of the receding figure.
3-4. If the position of the new character should not be this triangle, then the point of the new position of A is enough perpendicular to AB to the triangle and find BC s

August ~ Top SubmissionsWe had some great submissions to our Favourites folder for August and this blog is a feature of some of the top photos that were shared with us this past month! Each photo that's chosen also gets selected to go through our main gallery folders, which as you know are not open to the general deviant public. So if you'd love a chance to have your work in a blog like this and appear in the inboxes of all our watchers as a deviation - just head over to our Favourites and get your work in for September.August ~ Top Submissions1 year ago in Art Features More Like This
Don't Go to art school!I've been seeing this around the DA journals all day, and it sounds like my kind of journal! It's written by an extremely talented environment artist named Noah Bradley. So I finally read it, and yeah, Noah is right on top of it. Check it out, and lets start the conversation about art and education in this country:Don't Go to art school!1 year ago in Personal More Like This
Don't go to art school
The traditional approach is failing us. It's time for a change.
I'VE HAD IT.
I will no longer encourage aspiring artists to attend art school. I just won't do it. Unless you're given a full ride scholarship (or have parents with money to burn), attending art school is a waste of your money.
I have a diploma from the best public art school in the nation. Prior to that I attended the best private art school in the nation. I'm not some flaky, disgruntled art graduate, either. I have a quite successful career, thankyouverymuch.
But I am s

My favourite poem ever :-
Where the mind is without fear and the head is held high;
Where knowledge is free;
Where the world has not been broken up into fragments by narrow domestic walls;
Where words come out from the depth of truth;
Where tireless striving stretches its arms towards perfection;
Where the clear stream of reason has not lost its way into the dreary desert sand of dead habit;
Where the mind is led forward by thee into ever-widening thought and action --
Into that heaven of freedom, my Father, let my country awake.

Routing Bonaparte at Waterloo
I'm a dragoon on a dun, I'm a Cossack on the run
I'm a horse soldier, timeless, through and through
I'm a horse soldier, eternal, through and through
I's with Custer and the 7th in 76 or 77
Scalped at Little Big Horn by the Sioux
And the tears and devistation of a once proud warrior nation
This I know cause I was riding with them too
I drank mare's blood on the run when I rode with the Great Khan
On the frozen Mongol steppe while at his height
I's a White Guard, I's a Red Guard, I's the Tsar's own palace horse guard
When Romanov was murdered in the night

WildSpiritWolf's Commission InformationWelcome to my current commission information (parts of the layout have been happily borrowed from Exileden 's info section with permission ).WildSpiritWolf's Commission Information4 years ago in Personal More Like This
I ask that all my commissioners read this and agree with my terms before commissioning me.
These are the starting prices with examples of each different type of commission. If your commission is larger and more complex, it will cost more; likewise, if it is very small and considerably simpler than the examples I show here I will work with you to price it lower than the stated price.
To have a background added or have your art done on special patterned paper costs extra. Please let me know if you need either of these things done and I will arrange it with you.
Pencil Sketch, one character: $15, each additional character in the same picture, only $7 - Examples:

Structuring a Story: Linear VS Non-LinearStructuring a Story: Linear VS Non-LinearStructuring a Story: Linear VS Non-Linear10 months ago in Personal More Like This
Thanks to everyone who took part in last week's workshop! <3
I'm looking for people to help run workshops (more detail at bottom).
So now that we’ve talked about how to kick start our imagination, we now need to start putting those ideas on paper. I was going to do an article on planning Project Educate’s story planning week was not long ago. There’s a roundup of PE’s story planning week here: http://beccalicious.deviantart.com/journal/PE-Story-Planning-Round-up-378695534
I recommend it; it’s very useful and interesting.
So now onto structure.
I like to split structure up into two categories: linear structure and non-linear structure (simple, eh?). Linear being when the events of the story happen in chronological order eg Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday.
Non-linear allows for detailed or in-depth flash backs, or may start at the end of a story, or even the middle of a story, and hav

Portfolio- part I... the preparationsSince I'm trying to wake up and writing helps a lot... I decided to split it in parts. It's too much for one entry. Simple fact on my side.Portfolio- part I... the preparations10 months ago in Personal More Like This
Edit: I will move everything into one PDF when everything's done. This is the noob-version for total beginners. The rest: bear the basics.
The preparation can be split into different parts. Each part has to be done, so don't leave out anything and complain later.
1. What kind of job is my goal?
Okay, you decided you want to apply. Somewhere... but "somewhere" doesn't work. Suck it up and make up your mind WHERE you want to apply because that normally also leads to for WHAT POSITION you want to apply. That's basically the same for freelancer/full-time job.
Ask friends or maybe even those who wouldn't pet you on the head every time you show them a crappy doodle where they see you. Look around and check if your desired company needs somebody like you and if you'd actually fit in. Do some research and prepare for a goal company or at least an industry

10 Years of ControversyOver the past couple days I’ve had a number of people write me comments basically saying “You’re becoming too preachy, you’ve lost a fan.” And outside the silliness of publicly mic-dropping like that, it got me wondering... what?10 Years of Controversy8 months ago in Personal More Like This
Ya see, It’s always surprises me when someone says that I’m becoming too preachy, when in fact I’ve been preachy from the beginning. Don’t believe me? Take a look below!

Masks “We understand how dangerous a mask can be. We all become what we pretend to be.”Masks1 year ago in Art Features More Like This
Patrick Rothfuss, The Name of the Wind
“Harvey wasn't interested in the clothes, it was the masks that mesmerized him. They were like snowflakes: no two alike. Some were made of wood and of plastic; some of straw and cloth and papier-mâché. Some were as bright as parrots, others as pale as parchment. Some were so grotesque he was certain they'd been carved by crazy people; others so perfect they looked like the death masks of angels. There
