Wednesday, Preview Night of Comic-Con
Wednesday, July 17, 2013
When the bustle of tourists in Downtown San Diego is replaced by the flailing of fandoms, and the street signs around the Convention Center have changed from English to Dothraki (not Klingon, like past years), you know it’s time for San Diego Comic-Con 2013!
Wednesday the 17th kicked off this year’s Preview Night, and energy was high as this year’s Comic-Con sprang into motion with a flurry of activity. Many attendees treat the three-hour preview as a time to scan the showroom floor, mentally map places to hit on the later dates, and, of course, buy the must-have items that may be gone by Con’s end. There’s not a lot of cosplaying -- although there is some -- and vendors as
Thursday, Day 1 of Comic-ConThursday was the first full day of Comic-Con, and artists, cosplayers, and fans (oh, my!) strapped on their most comfortable Con Shoes and continued rocking out in San Diego. It was also the day of deviantART's first panel, "How-To: Motion Books," which was so inspiring, audience members nearly had to be physically removed from the premises because the conversations ended long after they took the microphones away.Thursday, Day 1 of Comic-Con3 years ago in DeviantArt Announcements More Like This
Sitting on the panel were spyed and techgnotic from deviantART, BenWolstenholme, LiamSharp, and nunyerbidniss from Madefire, and davegibbons, perhaps best-known for his collaboration with Alan Moore on "Watchmen." The topic was an explanation of the recent partnership of Madefire and deviantART -- who met at Comic-Con j
Friday, Day 2 of Comic-ConComic-Con Veterans know there's an ebb and flow of patrons as the week progresses. While Preview Night can be frenzied with excitement for the con to come, there's also a notable saving of energy, knowing that the scant few hours of the first day will be nothing compared to the full-day smorgasbord for the remaining 4 days of the week. Thursday seems even more crazed by comparison, but of course, not all con-goers can get a weekday off. By Friday, electricity is buzzing in the air as cosplayers bust out their second outfit, comic-lovers bust out their second wallets, and area convenience stores are running dangerously low on comfy insoles and 5-Hour Energy Drinks.Friday, Day 2 of Comic-Con3 years ago in DeviantArt Announcements More Like This

Sunday, Day 4 of Comic-ConNo matter how tired your feet are by what is actually Day 5 of Comic-Con, counting Preview Night, no matter how exhausted your body and empty your wallet, there's always a bit of sadness in the air when the last few hours of Comic-Con wind down.Sunday, Day 4 of Comic-Con3 years ago in DeviantArt Announcements More Like This
In the deviantART booth, we witnessed something a little magical when the voice came over the loudspeaker to announce that Comic-Con was closed at 5:00 pm sharp, the remaining straggling attendees and exhibitors packing up stopped what they were doing and burst into applause. It was a mixture of relief, pride, and fulfillment of a successful convention.
Someone yelled, "See you in 365 days!" and there was a true moment of community with everyone in earshot. Sure, it's a sad sentiment, but it gives us all something to look forward to, and the months ahead will be filled with the happy memories of all we accomplished over the past week. Friends met that stop by every year, new friends, new properties to become fans of, new comic books to read and

Hello, deviants! In an effort to keep the community informed and to provide the best possible experience for our members, we wanted to inform you of changes to our reporting system.
DeviantART is dedicated to protecting our artists, and in an effort to be able to more quickly handle complaints by deviants who have had their rights infringed on, we have changed the way we receive complaints from the artist or the copyright holder.
In the past, we took reports by the copyright holder in two different ways: An informal report via the Report Violation tool and a formal complaint via contacting the Help Desk. While both of these methods were effective, they presented many setbacks.
The informal report did not gather all the necessary information for a formal copyright complaint and was prone to misuse by well-meaning deviants who would attempt to report images they did not own the copyright to

Saturday, Day 3 of Comic-ConSaturdays mean the kids at Xavier's School for Gifted Youngsters and the adults at Stark Enterprises alike are free to spend the weekend as they please! For them as well as zombies and time lords, to whom weekends mean nothing, Saturday in San Diego was one of the most packed days of the convention yet!Saturday, Day 3 of Comic-Con3 years ago in DeviantArt Announcements More Like This
DeviantART staffers continued showering visitors with stress balls, collectible pins, and swapped stories of their favorite deviantART experiences. It's a long day, but hearing some of the inspirational stories that originate from our humble corner of the Internet are truly inspiring.
Our final Comic-Con panel was held at 12:15 pm, and the topic was "How-To: Creator vs. Audience." Ron Martino (techgnotic) led the panel, which talked about how the digital nature of storytelling on deviantART is changing the way the world interacts with its audiences. Alongside him were Wenqing Yan (yuumei), Brian Kesinger (BrianKesinger), Dave Elliott (DeevElliott), and Hal Hefne

LONG VERSION; On August 26, 2015, Chris Bolt (chris) and I went to downtown LA where DeviantArt was hosted to dismantle the last of the colocation facility we inhabited for 13 years. DeviantArt has completed its transition to AWS after a long, long process that has taken chris and his team probably the better part of this year to complete. THANKS PAUL! banks, and JESSICA! petralfire - It's amazing to me how insanely complicated such a transition is, and how little the site was affected by it. We did have a glitch or two, here or there, especially the past 3 weeks, so if you experienced such a thing it was due to this wide scale transition. But on the whole? So smooth.
This is of course due to the brilliance of my brother from anoth
All Roads Lead to DeviationIn a week it will be April 15th, 2015. Which in my memory is the day fifteen (15) years ago that we embarked on a new project we'd come to call DeviantArt. jark and I agreed for him to wind down projects on the DMusic Network and instead focus his energy on a similar platform for an emerging group of digital artists we were watching closely as fans. Soon after, he found matteo who was working on an education resource for digital artists known as WastedYouth.org and asked him for some perspective on the project. As a high functioning digital artist and photoshop master (I believe he had co-authored a book on photoshop by this time at age 18!) matteo (Matthew Stephens) made many contributions to what became DeviantArt at this critical moment, not the least of which was the NAME 'DeviantArt'! But perhaps more importantly the idea to include all artists on the platform, not just wallpapers and art made for customizing your computer. jark created the ability for us to easily create newAll Roads Lead to Deviation10 months ago in Personal More Like This

Hello! I’m Nancy, but most people know me as Anoya. I live with my two Norwegian Forest Cats Dio & Dex in a little country called the Netherlands. I like to do photography, but I secretly also love to crochet amigurumi. I have a huge passion for Animals, Plants & Nature (APN) which might be quite obvious since I’ve been the APN Photography Community Volunteer twice for over two and a half years in total. I still feature Daily Deviation suggestions in my journal since all of them are worthy of being featured and deserve extra exposure. I also think the artists should know their work has been suggested and that it’s being loved and appreciated!
In July I’ll celebrate my 11th deviant birthday. I’ve falle

Today marks a very special day for someone, and since this someone is our wonderful team leader, $Moonbeam13, we wanted to write a journal to say...
HAPPY BIRTHDAY DANIE!
Now a lot of you know Danie as the big chief of the Community Relations team, but I doubt half of you truly know how much of a hard worker Danie is. Not only does she have to look after us lively lot (and by “lot” have you seen how big the CV team is?!), but she works on copious behind the scenes projects on deviantART, making this place just a little bit more devious and better for all us Artists out there in the big dA community. Not only this, but she has to have a life at the same time!
Now we have decided to use Danie’s birthday for three things:
1. To wish her a very happy birthday (of course)

PE: Daily Deviations - The Myth and the LegendDaily Deviations, or DDs . . . for some deviants, receiving one is the epitome of awesomesauce in the deviantART world. For others, they are a nice way to show off the work of lesser-known artists. Still others treat them as a special way to bring attention to great art that exemplifies works being done by a particular gallery or community.PE: Daily Deviations - The Myth and the Legend4 years ago in Deviant Events More Like This
Perhaps because there are so many different ways of conceptualizing DDs, there are also many myths and misconceptions. I would like to address some of those myths by responding to the ones most frequently heard. Please note that these opinions are mine and reflect my experiences with the photomanipulation community, but perhaps they will be informative nevertheless.
Myth 1: DDs should always be perfect.
To many of us, the ideal Daily Deviation goes to an artist with amazing talent whose work draws you in and makes you think, "Wow, everyone needs to see this!" A DD should move you, inspire you, and provoke you to think, b

Change is something handled differently by everyone. Some people accustom to change very quickly, others may take a long time or may not adjust to change at all. Things are super busy at the moment. As you know, we've been recruiting for 2 new positions into the CEA Team for a while. After weeks of interviews, tasks and presentations, we've sent out offers to 2 deviants who will soon be joining the team. I have to say that this round of recruitment attracted the most amazingly high standard of applicants, and it was not an easy task to make our final decisions! Over 200 people applied for the positions and it was really inspiring to speak with so many people who have such evident ambition and talent within our community.
During the recruitment process, we gave the final round of applicants a task to make a presentation to us about what they felt was an appropriate piece of community outreach that the CEA should undertake. I was really impressed by all the ideas and I'm really looking forward to expanding upon some of the ideas to make them part of our regular CEA projects.

Matters Concerning ArchivesAs many of you know, archive file types represent a means to collect together a number of computer files and package them together for the purpose of backup, to transport them to some other location, or simply to compress them so that they take up less space. Many of you here in the deviantART community who offer stock resources, applications, themes and other desktop customization options are all very familiar with them and use them extensively, whether your file type of choice be .zip, .rar, or any one of another dozen options.Matters Concerning Archives3 years ago in Personal Journal More Like This
Depending on how regularly you submit and what sort of file type you use when you do so you may or may not have noticed a change- that change being that submissions with file types ending with .exe are no longer being accepted during the the submission process and if you've attempted to submit an archive file which was password protected you've noticed that those protected files are also being rejected during submission (alt
Cyberbullying and Your DeviationsThe term "cyberbullying" was first coined and defined by Canadian educator and anti-bullying activist Bill Belsey, as "the use of information and communication technologies to support deliberate, repeated, and hostile behavior by an individual or group that is intended to harm others."Cyberbullying and Your Deviations4 years ago in Personal More Like This
While the actions which make up cyberbullying can vary depending on who you are talking with or what website you are on at the time, as far as we here at deviantART are concerned the act of cyberbullying involves a range of behavior from hostile and aggressive communications, to threats, sexual remarks, hate speech, ganging up on victims by making them the subject of ridicule or humiliation.
The practice of cyberbullying is also not limited to children, when perpetrated by adults toward adults these same behaviors are sometimes referred to as cyberstalking or cyberharassment but regardless of what name you attach to it, cyberbullying has grown into an increasing problem since the behavior was first ident
