The Dagger Key ~ Pirate!England x Reader Part OneThe tavern was alive with the sounds of cheery fiddles and drunken dance steps. Pointless conversations floated upon the thick atmosphere of sweat and bad breath. A man passed by you, staring with strained eyes as if trying to ascertain which gender you were—apparently your masculine disguise was working perfectly. You adjusted your dark hat further down over your eyes, pushing your way past the confused barfly towards the back of the building.
At last, you spied who you were looking for. A burly man with a brandy-stained beard and a jungle of chest hair sat at a long table in the corner near the bar. His eyes were made of cold steel; his missing left arm and numerous scars showcased his seasoned prowess as a pirate. A large book lay open before him, its yellowed parchment awaiting the signatures of new recruits he deemed worthy to join his crew.
This was your chance; it was now or never.
You bravely sauntered up to the table, putting on your best manly air.

You yelped as you rolled over, falling out of your hammock in the process.
A child’s hysterical laughter caught you even more off-guard.
You lifted yourself onto your elbows and rubbed the swelling knot on your forehead. As your vision came into focus, you finally were able to get a good look the child. It was little boy with dirty-blonde hair and the biggest blue eyes you had ever seen. He wore a hand-sewn tunic and black slacks held securely with brown suspenders. His feet were bare and calloused, as were his hands. He seemed awfully young to be the cabin boy—and there was no way a pirate would allow his son to tag along for a voyage. Who in the world was he?

Upon reaching the black door to Kirkland’s room, you thrust out your hands to shove it open.
“Captain! We’re being attacked!” you called before noticing the room was empty.
You paused to survey the room in earnest, but Kirkland was nowhere to be found.
“Dammit!” you spat, spinning back around and dashing back out on deck.
Suddenly, your entire weight slammed into something hard, nearly knocking you off your boots. A hand shot out to your waist, steadying you as you regained your composure.
“Watch yourself, you useless whelp! Next time, mark me, I will let you fall!”
You blinked. “Captain!”

The Dagger Key~ Pirate!England x Reader Part FourIt was quiet. For a moment, you wondered if you were dead, and this darkness the pits of purgatory; however, pain slowly crept its way along your limbs, until the aching grew so strong you jolted out of your slumber. A sharp sting soared from your lower back to your shoulder blades, immediately rendering you motionless. You must have hit the deck (no pun intended) harder than you first thought. What’s more, your left shoulder—the one that had been shot—twisted with a pain so indescribable you could hardly stand it. Through your flashes of agony, you noticed you were in a bed. The once white sheets were stained crimson with dried blood. The room was tossing, and you knew it was not simply because you were still swimmy-hea

You have been on the streets for a long as you can remember, your mother died and your father was more interested in arresting pirates than you, so you had lost your home and had been living on the streets.
You had resorted to thieving as there were no options for you, you quickly learned how to use a sword and a dagger as there was little choice and no weapons meant you could end up stabbed any time.
You sighed and then shook your head, it was a miracle you hadn't been caught at all, you thought you would be rotting in prison by now. You soon sat on the rooftop as you hugged your knees, the wind blowing through your hair as you adjusted your belt which held your sword in.

You wanted so much to simply throw away your oars and give up. You were in the middle of the ocean, heading God knows where into God knows what; that damned Antonio could have been anywhere. You stopped rowing and laid your head in your hands. A sickening hopelessness overwhelmed you. You cursed yourself for jumping ship…
Kirkland’s image flashed before your mind’s eye, and your chest tightened. You knew he wouldn’t have helped you, had you had the chance to ask… But still… Even though he was drunk when it happened, the love you made together was so sincere… As if he were apologizing for how he

Lovino was comfortably snoring away, curled up and clinging to the corner of your pillow. This was the fifth time he had done this—and for what reason, you had no earthly idea. At first, you supposed it was because Antonio wanted to spy on you, but when Antonio asked you if you knew where Lovino had been going the past few nights, that option was blown out of the cannon. You couldn't breathe.
You couldn't believe it…
Kirkland’s ship drew ever closer to Antonio’s, bringing with it a flooding of emotions that roiled throughout your petrified body. You didn't know whether to be elated or furious, or whether Kirkland had come to claim you or kill you. The confusion was maddening, but you breathed past your relentless nerves and turned to Antonio.
“Don’t engage him… unless he fires first. Please…”
Antonio sighed heavily. It was more than obvious how frustrated he was at your request, but the hand he placed on your shoulder was a friendly one.
“I will attempt a negotiation. Should words fail… I cannot guarantee his life.”
You nodded slowly.
After your short response, you both watched Kirkland’s approach, until you could at last see him clearly. He stood strong and proud on the ship’s railing, holding tightly to a rope for support.

I wandered leisurely through this seaside Spanish town shortly after my ship docked. My men had been ordered to restock the ship’s supplies without drawing too much attention. Our recent pirating escapades had resulted in extra security measures being placed amongst many Spanish towns and outposts by the sea. We were quite the talk of these Spaniards, although they certainly weren't praising our skills. I paused by one of the market stalls, pretending to be mildly interested in the fruit for sale, as I overheard my name spoken in one conversation.
“Didja hear? They say Kirkland’s crew raided another village not too far from here,” one of the customers was saying. He spoke in Spanish, but luckily I had managed to pick up the language enough over the years to understand what he said.
“Sí,” the shopkeeper replied, nodding his head, “Fearsome pirate if I ever heard o’ one.”

Your heart nearly came to a stop. In less than a blink, Wang had his sword drawn and trained on Arthur’s jugular.

Dark, damp, and depressing. Those were the first things you had noticed about your surroundings, the second had been a dull throbbing that resounded in your skull. It didn’t take long to discover the blood encrusted to your scalp. Fear sharpened your senses; your hands were bound, wrists raw from the thick rope, and you hurt. You soon realised that you were not alone in this darkness. Peering through the gloom, you met restless shadows and frightened eyes, many of which glistened with tears. You vaguely recalled screams of terror and pain as flames licked the ship’s tall mast, twisting around the wood in a dance of destruction. The fire had long since been consumed by the sea as the smouldering shell of your previous vessel had been sent to a watery grave. The smell of burnt lumber still clung to your clothes, but it was now dulled by the salty musk which stemmed from the appalling conditions in which you currently found yourself.
