Check and Mate (First Draft)Shikamaru continued signing the after action reports, ignoring the loud music and the raucous laughter outside. Parties just weren’t his thing. Even a blowout to celebrate the end of the Fourth Great war.
Even after he had dismissed them, his squad mates had tried their best to convince him to join them in the festivities. Ino had practically danced back into the tent, her long blonde hair flowing behind her, giving him a forced, flirtatious wink. “Come with us Shikamaru!” she had teased, the smile beaming through her sorrow and loss. “The war’s over! We won! Surely we can forget the paperwork and live a little!”
Ino had been drowning in her grief. She desperately needed an escape from the reality of things dragging her down. The optimal solution had easily presented itself.
His response had been a simple shrug. “Parties are such a drag... Standing around talking to people you barely know and will likely never meet again... I’m fine, beli

My tenure as Community Volunteer of Fan Fiction ends tomorrow, and I want to go out with a bang. So here's one more competition with prizes so you'll all remember me fondly!
A writer's best friend is another writer. Sometimes you just cannot objectively look over your own work and fix all your mistakes. You need a fresh pair of eyes to help you, and who better than someone else who understands the labors of love you're undertaking? That is where editors come in. But for many people, finding a literary helpmate can be difficult.
What's this about?
This is a two-part contest for writers of fan fiction. Phase One: Write a fan fiction but don't bother to proofread it. Post it in its raw, unedited first draft (just make sure it's still legible--correct your typos, at the ve
Announcing the CRLiterature Book Club! Here at CRLiterature, we wanted to find a fun way to get the community reading -- and reading together. What better way is there than to have a new book to enjoy as a group every month?Announcing the CRLiterature Book Club!1 year ago in Literature Features More Like This
How do you participate in Book Club? Here are your simple instructions:
1. Acquire the book.
2. Read the book.
3. Stay tuned to the CRLiterature group for discussion journals and chats.
BONUS: We will be giving out arbitrary prizes to some participants each month!
We are hoping to select books that push the community's boundaries, in terms of what we're already reading, but that will also have mass appeal. We are also going to be choosing books that are widely available across English-speaking nations (for now Book Club is English-only) and across e-reading platforms. By rotating moderators, we are hoping that selections will be diverse, both in terms of style and genre, and in terms of author background and point of view.
We are also excited at the possibility of

Hello! In this article I will be teaching you some tips on the message center! Just some features and settings you may not have been aware of that I find very useful.c:
This is probably how your journals look by default, since the day you first visited your message center. Let's play around with some settings that may make some things easier for you!
So by clicking on the box that has a bunch of lines on it, you can get the journals (or any other part of the message center) look like how favorites and watches are displayed in your message center! This feature can be very useful if you like to see a bunch of things at the same time, and don't really care about the preview text. Or maybe also if you just want to take a quick skim right now, and look at the items that seem interesting and take the rest of the dive later.

This is a friendly fandom competition initiated by our group that pitches the 64 of the HTTYD fandom's creators together, ultimately resulting in one creator who takes bragging rights for the rest of 2013 as the fandom's favorite.
This activity bolsters exposure for creators across social media, resulting in new people discovering their art.
Is there an artist you would like to nominate (traditional, cosplay, crafter, digital)? Do you have what it takes? You may nominate up to three users, yourself included but there are some qualifying rules:

Short vs. Long - Contest Contest closed, thank you for participating!Short vs. Long - Contest2 years ago in Literature Features More Like This
Story planning isn't about length—you can use all of the tips throughout this week to figure out anything from a very well-researched drabble to a cycle of novels.
So I'm just taking a moment to talk about the big difference between writing a short vs. long work. I'm not hashing out every distinction—I'm leaving microfiction in particular to the experts—so for our purposes here a short story is anything from 1,000 to 10,000 words and a novel is 40,000 words and above. (Literaticat will tell you different things. Trust her.)
The basics are the same: you need a beginning, middle, and end (yes, short stories are complete stories)! You need an engaging protagonist who works well with the plot, and there's the same range of available genres.
So what is the difference?
Scope. A short story has to be <

If one is looking for Literature, you don't need to go far on deviantART. There is a large community of writers and a plethora of work to peruse. Featuring genres such as fantasy, mystery, horror, and romance, one would be hard-pressed to find an area not covered. However, due to the nature of the site, shorter works tend to get more focus. It's easier to quickly read a poem or a short story, and thus many of the feature articles on dA showcase those works. However, there are many novelists and serial writers among the mix, oftentimes fighting an uphill battle to have their works seen and appreciated.
With that in mind, I have started an article to spotlight some of those artists and their literary-worlds. The works covered in this feature will exclusively be long-form fiction such as novels, trilogies, etc., or fiction serials.

Writers' Block: The MythLit Basics WeekWriters' Block: The Myth1 year ago in Literature Features More Like This
We've all suffered from sitting down at our desk, booting up our computer, ready to start writing a story and BAM nothing comes out. We sit there and sit there and still nothing comes out. We put everything away and try again the next day but have the same results. Then we go to our favourite blog site and write a journal about how the world is horrible and we're suffering from writers' block.
But are we really suffering from a block?
If, on the third day, someone came to us and said, "Have two pages, double spaced in 12pt text written by tomorrow at noon on a topic of your choosing and I'll give you $1,000," would we still be unable to produce something? I'm sure if given a deadline and incentive like this, the majority of us would be able to write two pages, double spaced in 12pt text by tomorrow at noon. Proving that writers' block is a myth. Well, in most cases.
I'm not saying there is absolutely no such thi

What is Creative Nonfiction?
Creative nonfiction is a popular category choice on deviantaART, and its one of those forms of writing we're exposed to on a much greater scale than perhaps we realise. Creative Nonfiction doesn't mean exaggerating, but making real stories well written. Examples can be found in news articles, biographies, literary journalism, travel/food writing and even personal essays. The scale of what Creative nonfiction covers is large, but its all about good execution that makes this form of writing effective.
I sometimes find it easier to start these kind subjects to discuss firstly what the subject isn't. In a generalisation, there are many people who assume that creative nonfiction is a chance to rant about your real life in an informal way and consider it as creative writing. It is also not technical writing, which falls into its own genre. However, Creative nonfiction goes into a much deeper style of writing, turning those

It's been about 2 years since we started watching each other (which is crazy, considering how we've been friends so long), and I'm so very glad that I found you on dA through Sarah. Just- Oh my gosh. I remember how when we first were friends, we didn't have much to talk about. But over this past year, we began to become close. And once I got into OFF, we were really able to discuss more than we used to. I don't regret anything at this point.
But, I just wanted you to know that you're a wonderful friend, even if you might not feel that way. You mean so much to me now... Everyday, I look forward to talking with you, even if it's just for a little bit. (I'm being so honest right now. uvu) Please know that I'll always be here for you if you need me. Making the Most of the Words You UseHave you ever opened up a dictionary and just starting reading it? (Oh, come on, I know I'm not the only one!) Well, if you haven't, you should go do that, right now, before you read any further. Okay, you're back. There are literally hundreds of thousands of words out there, and all of them are waiting for you to use them in your next literary masterpiece.Making the Most of the Words You Use1 year ago in Literature Features More Like This
Now, you may be asking "So what?" Words are just words, right? So long as you get your point across, that's all that matters, right? After all, green is green, whether you call it olive or neon or sea-foam. Right? Right?
Wrong! Consider this scene: Abigail walked through the quiet garden. The hedges formed a maze for her to navigate.
It gets the point across, but doesn't paint much of a picture without context. It's kind of boring, and doesn't give you any details or reason for caring. By adding or changing a few words, you can turn this dry piece of toast into an enchanting seedcake of delight.

Last night was amazing, after dinner Naruto walked me home and right before he left he gave me a red box.
"Promise me you won't open this till you go inside?" he had asked me.
"Why?" I asked.
"Just promise?" he said.
"Ok," I said, wondering why he was being so weird.
"Thank you....I love you," he said than kissed me on the lips. He then walked away without waiting to see me my reaction to what just happen, I stood there just staring until I couldn't see him anymore. I walked in my house slowly, what had just happen? He just told me he loved me, but why did he run away like that? I looked down at the box in my hands, what could be in here?
'Well there's only one way to know,' I thought. I opened it to find a silver heart shaped locket, I opened it not really sure what would be inside. What was inside surprised me more than anything, it was a picture of Sasuke no one side and me on the other. The pictures where old, we where both 13 when these where took. But, why would

Suddenly, a blonde boy with two whisker marks suddenly wants to go pranking...Gee, I wonder who's child this is? Though it's f*cking obvious it's Naruto's child, we still don't know the mother, could it be either Sakura or Hinata? Nobody knows yet!
He's stared down by a black-haired unknown girl, but just like the blonde's heritage, it's unknown who's child it is.
And we get ANOTHER child with unknown heritage, we know it's obvious it's Shi

Then he finally said " Neji, could you leave us alone for a minute? " Naruto asked. Neji walked away. Hinata chuckled because she knew Neji was pissed. Hinata sat down in a chair across from Naruto. Naruto looked down. Hinata's eyes widened as Naruto blushed.
" Na-Naruto? What is it? " Hinata was really nervous. She tried her best to hide it. " Hinata...I need to talk to you... about something... and its very important. " Naruto said. Naruto's words made Hinata even more nervous.
She took a deep breath and let out a sigh. " Wh-What do we need to talk about? " Hinata asked. Na

Idiots. Idiots everywhere.
So apparently there is like this war between NejiHina and NejiTen shippers.
Apparently Nejiten lovers claim Nejihina lovers started on them, and Nejihinalovers claim Nejiten lovers started on them.
Both Nejiten and Nejihina shippers..........can you chill out and just ship your ship?
Neji is dead. Im over it....if he comes back.....AWESOME.
If he stays dead, meh. I mean, lets be realistic, if Neji was alive, I really do not think Kishimoto gives a shit about either NejiTen or NejiHina. In canon, Neji has no love interest. Tenten does not have a love interest. Hinata is interested in Naruto.
Both ships.......they are both, let us be honest here..... fan made. You can whine/argue all you want that they both had their "moments", but realistically, both ships......were lets be honest....unintentionally implied.

One of the many (well, primary really) reasons I read fanfiction is for that steamy sex scene. I scour FF for the M rated fics that will detail the primitive dance done since the beginning of time. I will usually read the "plot" while making a "let's hurry along" gesture so we can finally have our protagonists naked and in each other's arms. Sometimes I mutter, "Ain't nobody got time for that," and just skip ahead, eager to see what form forbidden love will take now.
And then it's a coin flip on whether it's enjoyable or not.
Well, more like a roll of the dice. Looking for boxcars.
Love scenes are frequently dreaded among new writers. I often compare them to combat scenes – you need at least two people grunting and sweating while thrusting at each other repeatedly. How do you do that and make it interesting?
First off, it is not required to have two charac
