PersonaWe all wear a maskPersona4 years ago in Urban & Spoken Word More Like This
No matter how we shape or mold it
It stays the same way even with a slight change
For the mask is a part of us
Just as we are part of the mask
When we hide a hidden side
Deep within our hearts
It becomes a shadow
Something we try to deny
Something to forget
But it always comes back to haunt us
Trying to engulf us in its darkness
To show others what their really like
As they keep denying it gets stronger
Shifting and molding into something terrifying
The shadow becomes a beast
A monster of our dark side
Because we've denied it
For thinking it isn't a part of us
But it is a part of us
Like we are a part of it
The only way to combat it
Is to accept it as it is
For that shadow is you
You are the shadow
Your persona that is in your heart
Don't be afraid
Just face it
Show no fear
The shadow is you
You are the shadow
You wear the mask
Wearing the mark
On your heart
Once you accept it
It becomes a great ally
A powerful persona
Right by your side
Always there to hel

Your head's hurting like crazy when you lay on the bed but it doesn't feel like your bed. All you can remember that you tried out Professor Jones' time machine and went out by the bright flash. When you open your eyes, you got up and look around to this unfamiliar room and you hear footsteps approaching to your room and you saw two couples with bowl filled with water and cloth and tray of food.
"Thank goodness! You're up." The woman said with relief.
"How are you feeling?" Her husband said.
"I'm alright. Where am I?" You asked them.
"You're at the inn. We are Innkeepers. I'm Julia (your mother's maiden last name) and this is my husband Pete." Julia introduced you.
You eyes are wide open to hear Julia's last name. 'Wait a minute...her last name. That's my mother's before she married. Pete does look like my mother.' You thought as you studied at Pete and look at him to make sure that's your ancestor. So that means, you made it to the past.
'What a luck! I found them!' You thought as you

The Spoils Of War
On continents- Wars have been waged
And bad blood as been shed
In countries- Leaders have been made
And some promises were never kept
In towns- Peaceful protests have been planned
It was just another way to fight against
In cities- Raging riots have been started
Because they were fed up with all the bullshit
There are established governments
Who are supposed to be for the people
But they continue to make corrupted investments
It's just a group who exercise and taint their freewill
We have soldiers we praise and soldiers who shock us on the news
Some fight for their nations and some fight with their titles that's abused
We have police officers who serve and protect, but there's also dirty cops
Each one has a reason but some are just in it for the money, which is never enough
There will always be another side! / There is always another face to hide!
Greed is in cahoots with pride! / Envy and wrath devou

My Darkest Hour
I've become lost
In my sundered reflection
I've finally crossed
The line of desperation
I sense something sinister
Something that is beyond cruel
My tears seem to hinder
Ready to break down soon
The darkness is always waiting
To rule / To conquer
To swallow / To devour
To return / To overpower
The shadows are always lurking
As I cry / As I weep
As I beg / As I plead
As I fall / As I grieve
The blinding fear is consuming
My anxiety-infected veins pour
I'm beyond weak
I don't want to be afraid anymore
Let me bleed
This is the only way out
A perfect exit for a coward
No longer am I bound
I couldn't survive my darkest hour

The voice on the other end of the call was deep, commanding, and completely expressionless. Jack swallowed hard before answering, as he always did- that voice scared him.
"I mean, it's not working." He said. "I did exactly what you said to do, but it's not working. All he does is cry. He's refusing to eat, and I have to fight to get any water in him."
The other end was silent for a long moment. "Tell me exactly what you've been doing. Start at the beginning."
Jack sighed, being sure to do it quietly, and recounted everything from the afternoon Brandon had come over and laid his own trap for himself. He left nothing out, going through everything he'd done, all of Brandon's reactions, everything.
"- and I went down there just now to check on him. He kicked the food dish across the room, and didn't eat any of it. Nothing's working."

You let my rant spill onto you.
I am happy we are together again,
I know I will need your help now more than ever.
I want to change who I am for the better,
So I can love myself
So I can love others.

To those who brought us life,
To those who raised us up,
And taught us wrong and right,
To those who supported us,
Through both good and bad,
To those who brought us happiness,
And comfort when we were sad,
To those who made us smile,
To those who wiped our tears,
To those who gave us strength,
And helped us conquer our fears,
To those who gave their all,
And expected nothing in return,
To those that now rest in peace,
Gone on to a better place,
It's a farewell to my mom,
Because she'd have loved it,
To read this on her grave.
Snared: Let the Chase BeginCaleb stirred and groaned softly as he came to. His head was throbbing, which might have been the thing to wake him up. He shifted and felt a pain shoot up his ankle, causing him to sit bolt upright and mumble a swear in his stupor. He meant to move his hands to his ankle to see why it was hurting, but a few moments of tugging made him realize that he couldn't move them. He blinked and shook his head, looking down and paling when he saw rope wrapped around his torso, pinning his arms to his sides. He looked back and saw more rope wrapped tightly around his wrists, holding them in an "X" in the small of his back.Snared: Let the Chase Begin3 years ago in Introductions & Chapters More Like This

Still more rope wound just over his knees and ankles, and what seemed to be a snare wire cinched between his ankles and around the rope to be unforgivably tight. The wire was secured to the wall and appeared to be only able to tighten, but not loosen. He was still dressed, at least.

"Are we friends, or are we?" Jack asked, laughing. He was a small, wiry man with a wild mop of brown hair and brilliant blue eyes that always seemed to be smiling. "I don't mind at all, buddy. When did you want to do this?"

It is so strange to wake up and be glad to see another day
It is so unusual to smile over next to nothing
It is so hard to act as though nothing lights up my life
So hard to pretend that I don't love you
It is so crazy to believe that some one may be right for me
That I may be able to feel so happy
To think only of you my every waking moment
To want to make you smile at every second
To want to steal the world for you
If you asked for it I would do my best to get it
If you demanded my action
I would do my best to perform
I would die at a word or live for eternity just to see light in your eyes
I live to see you happy
To see you safe from harm
And I would be happy too
If I had you here in my arms
It feels so strange to feel so elated
To be in such agonizing ecstasy
I feel so happy
But I'd be happier to hold you in my arms

jutting up from the filth I let them bury me in,
digits half curled
wrist arced and carpels tangled
as if I had once strained

but had long since given up...
Your fingertips were my Autumn
as I walked backwards through Winter-
A sleepwalking shadow
spurred on only by sound of a melodic voice
and the faint whispers
of a promise
that I was worth more than ash and dust;
It's been two years since you first coaxed me up from the mire.
I opened my eyes into a hurricane,
reached out to grasp at the hem of your dress
only to come up short
when I found
I was still chest-deep in the mud;
You slipped away between the raindrops,
Leaving me with one last promise:

I put my hands to the ground,
pushed with everything I was-
Pushed till my ribs cracked,
my tendons tore,
till my arms snapped like rotten limbs
and I bled out from my eyes.
But I pushed.

Are We Not Free? Are We Not Free?:Are We Not Free?2 years ago in Free Verse More Like This
Ye say that nothin' changes;
That all we're tryin' t' do is fer naught.
Ye say that nothing's wrong,
That we should be acceptin' of our fate.
But why should we simply accept things as they are?
Are we no' a free people?
Are we no' allowed t' speak our minds?
Every man, every woman in this land,
Has the freedom t' choose their own path.
If our ideals must beg us differ,
Then that too is a part of the change that grips us.
What exactly do ye have t' fear?
If yer stoic in ye ideal that nothin' will ever change.
Why not simply ignore us;
A passin' flight o' fancy that we are...
Yet still ye try, ye attempt t' change our minds.
Ye pacify us with the notion of acceptance,
Highlightin' the fact that the world is fine.
Ye say that this is the way that things should be!
That m'friend, is yer personal freedom;
I'll not impinge upon it, fer it be yours.
I only ask, if ye could kindly mind,
Not to treat us, like we're bleedin' blind...

Are your thoughts killing you?Trigger warning! Are your thoughts killing you?1 year ago in Introductions & Chapters More Like This
“Are your thoughts killing you?”, she thinks as she awakes amid the sound of the most terrified blood-curdling scream coming from outside the room across the hallway. She cannot open her eyes nor move, but quivers and struggles to open them. Upon managing to do so, she understands she is in a bizarrely greyish room. She looks around only to recognize none of her belongings are there. She tries moving, but while doing so, a cold bracelet most likely made of metal strokes her wrist. She stares down to find what appeared to bear a resemblance to some sort of rusty and tarnished chain. She is leaning against a wall, which is, as she realizes, covered in mildew.
Trying to look for evidence of where she might be, she memorizes all that she sees: four mildewed walls, a cracked floor covered in mire, a perilous ceiling, decaying furniture, or probably a lack of it, a camouflaged door. The stench is dreadful. She has no idea of where she is... But suddenly, v

Lilly was watching the six o'clock news. Just like she had been doing every day for the past six months. It had been almost four months since they stopped running the story. Every once in a while they would do a short clip, asking for any information regarding the whereabouts of Jesse Gram.
In six months, they had heard absolutely nothing. No ransom demand. No sightings. Not even a whisper. It was as if he had disappeared off the face of the planet.
The news ended and a rerun of some show started. Lilly wasn't paying attention anymore, instead, she was scanning the pictures on the mantle behind the TV. A sad smile touched the corner of her lips as she lingered on one photo in particular. It was of the entire family at the beach just a month or so before he disappeared.
Lilly sat on the edge of the pool sunbathing. Jesse was swimming laps in the tiny body of water, m

Detective Taylor Bennett of the Special Victims Unit combed the crime scene with a grimace upon his face. SWAT already moved in with him and his partner and detained all of the perps and rescued all of the kidnapped teenagers. But then he was informed on the two bodies in the lower levels of the compound.
Dead bodies, he was used to seeing them, but never so young and beaten. The young boy with the jet black hair looked almost at peace finally after being raped and tortured for so long. It was almost a fitting end to a tragic story. But then Detective Bennett noticed something.
"I need a medic in here, now!" he shouted bending down to the boy. There was a large gunshot wound to the side of his head and blood was everywhere. He was completely covered with semen and sweat, as well as bodily injuries, like scratches and bite marks, bruises and burns. But he was alive!
"Harley Harley" Taylor said shaking the boy's shoulder gently. The boy moaned in response. He was coherent.
