Saturday, Day 3 of Comic-ConSaturdays mean the kids at Xavier's School for Gifted Youngsters and the adults at Stark Enterprises alike are free to spend the weekend as they please! For them as well as zombies and time lords, to whom weekends mean nothing, Saturday in San Diego was one of the most packed days of the convention yet!Saturday, Day 3 of Comic-Con2 years ago in DeviantArt Announcements More Like This
DeviantART staffers continued showering visitors with stress balls, collectible pins, and swapped stories of their favorite deviantART experiences. It's a long day, but hearing some of the inspirational stories that originate from our humble corner of the Internet are truly inspiring.
Our final Comic-Con panel was held at 12:15 pm, and the topic was "How-To: Creator vs. Audience." Ron Martino (techgnotic) led the panel, which talked about how the digital nature of storytelling on deviantART is changing the way the world interacts with its audiences. Alongside him were Wenqing Yan (yuumei), Brian Kesinger (BrianKesinger), Dave Elliott (DeevElliott), and Hal Hefne
Expiration DateI love the Team Fortress 2 short movies. They're like little Pixar films......just with violence, blood, dismemberment and a general disregard for health, safety and human life.Expiration Date1 year ago in Personal More Like This
Usually they're quite brief, but the latest to surface is a whole 15 minutes. Positively feature-length!
It's making me want to revisit those TF2 "auxiliary units" I designed a couple of years back.

The man played a whole range of characters, from Smee (Hook) to Khrushchev (Enemy at the Gates) but he'll probably be remembered (and envied by those of us with a looser grip on reality) for his role as Eddie Valiant, the LA gumshoe from Who Framed Roger Rabbit whom the badly-drawn Jessica bounced off, slunk around and serenaded.
For that, I think we'll all forgive him for Mario Bros.

Mastering online platforms like deviantArt isn't difficult, but it can be time-consuming. We'll preface this new series with a simple mantra:
"When I do the work, I will get results."
It really is that simple. There will be days when you feel like you're doing a lot with nothing happening in return, but I encourage you to see beyond the beginning stages to the big picture. At first, you are the only one talking about what you do. After a while, others will talk about it too, and then you don't have to work so hard. But you will always have to pay attention and you will always have to give more than take. So just get used to it. The payoff is worth it: getting to do what you love for a living.
Since we are doing this on online platforms like deviantArt and etsy and Facebook and whatnot, this series will focus on using online
Woops. I made it interesting. The comics in the Apsara Portfolio can generally be described as “titillation with a thin veneer of story”.Woops. I made it interesting.1 year ago in Personal More Like This
A couple of people have voiced disappointment with the recent Jailer comic because I inverted that formula. I stupidly put what turned out to be an interesting premise in a comic where a good narrative hook actually ruins it. It was intended to be a one-shot, but the build-up has too epic a feel to it, leaving the second half and (apparent) conclusion to be unfulfilling.
Solution: I add more to the story. More little chapters that drip-feed character details, which now exist because I started writing them as soon as people began to voice their dissatisfaction.
It should make the opening “chapter” feel more worthwhile.
The whole thing will still be an Apsara comic, though, so don’t expect an easing of the usual Apsara elements.
Heroic Writing, part 11: Death and DyingA few nights back, I was sitting in chat with :iconLady-Quantum:, :iconmoxiee:, :iconLoneStranger:, :iconSebastiansSire:, :iconKnight3000:, :iconSouthernNerd:, :iconTrekkieGal:, :iconPathetic-Virgin:, :iconShuma-Gorath:, and :iconSorryIwasntlisening: and the topic of a particular hero’s choice of firearm came up. I will not recap the entire conversation here, because, while it was interesting, it was only tangentially related to what I wish to discuss. What was important, from my point of view, and what I found myself reflecting on thereafter, was the way in which different characters respond to death, dying, and the taking of life.Heroic Writing, part 11: Death and Dying4 months ago in Personal More Like This
A common theme, especially in western superhero fiction, is that real heroes do not kill people- or, at the very least, they do their level best to avoid it. Superman, certainly, is portrayed in most popular culture as being against killing, and Batman struggles against nearly impossible odds and still, somehow, manages to almost nev

this is a contest for a character for the "Anima: Gate of Memories" video game.
I will be very clear, there will be NO PAYMENT for any winners here. You enter if you want to do this, and we are in no way trying to scam anyone of doing free work.
What the winner will get out of this contest:
1. the winner's character will be 3D modeled, and put into the game as a character inside the game and story. We will work to incorporate this character into the story, without him or her just standing around for nothing.
2. the winner's full name will be in the credits.
3. This character will be copyrighted primarily to this game, you are allowed to use the artwork for your portfolio, but may be a bit complicated if you want to sell him/her off to a new client. Details of copyright can be discussed with the winner.
What we are looking for:
1. human character in any age or body type, he/she should look like a fa

A little thoughtJust wanted to say thank you for everyone who drops by, leaves a comment (or even just a Fav), and all those who Watch me.A little thought2 years ago in Personal More Like This
I don't respond to every single comment I get, and I don't want anyone to feel like they're ignored or (heaven forbid) "not good enough". A lot of the time I'm just not sure what to say or how to respond, and I get a loooot of comments too, so those don't add well together. Mix that with the tiredness of my current life (basically composed of work and not-work), and I feel sorta aloof most of the time.
I also end up posting a lot of my stuff on Tumblr, if only because I feel like putting my finished, complete works on dA while Tumblr is moreso random thoughts and rough doodles.
Again, thanks for everyone who stops by.

Female Masks, the Ones That Got AwayI have a weird outlook on women. I'm a heterosexual man, so there's still that typical straight male part of me that will always check out a woman's body. Breasts, ass, legs, check. Absolutely checking her out. However, since I'm obsessed with female masks, every woman's face and hair gets a very detailed check by me. Over the years, I've basically simplified my categorization of woman into one of two categories: Mask Face or Base Face.Female Masks, the Ones That Got Away2 months ago in Personal More Like This
Women with Mask Faces just look like they are wearing a mask. Maybe the face is just a little thicker than normal. Maybe her hair seems especially thick and bulgy in the back implying a wig. But something about her face and hair just looks utterly fake to me. These are the women that just look like at any given moment they could just begin peeling their faces off to reveal another woman underneath.
Base Face women are women who look like they could wear a mask really well. Narrower features of

'GENECONOMICS' : a Motion Book script exampleUPDATE: The art is starting to come in for this book:'GENECONOMICS' : a Motion Book script example2 years ago in Personal More Like This
As it gets completed we will be posting the process of how this script becomes a Motion Book, and goes to print! So if you're interesting in the process stay tuned!
I've been asked a couple of questions about designing comics with the 'motion book' mentality in mind. Because motion books are dynamic and not static, you can create stories in a format that incorporates a motion book foundation. Where traditional comics deal with page layout, motion books deal with how that layout flows and evolves over time (Treatment: Tokyo is a great example of this).
I have an animation background, so the writing I've done in the past reflects this. Below is a script for a property I'm developing that I wrote as a motion book- so the format is taking into account how it would be interpreted at the art stage and motion book creation stage (and for that reason the format sort of bridges the 'animation/cinema'
