September Vector DDs and Thank YouWhat is Vector Art?September Vector DDs and Thank You1 year ago in Personal More Like This
In digital art there are two layer formats: raster and vector. Raster formats are based in pixels and vector is based in paths and points.
When you resize a raster image, you are expanding the pixels. Your program has to try to estimate what the colours would be for the additional pixels created. Due to this, the image loses it's clarity and creates a pixel effect.
When you resize a vector image, you are increasing the distance between the points. Due to this, the image doesn't lose it's clarity and doesn't pixellate.
The key element of vector is that it's infinitely scalable without any quality loss and it's why we love it!
What is a Daily Deviation?
A Daily Deviation is a site wide feature. These are selected from our galleries by Community Volunteers and from suggestions from ANYONE who is a member of deviantART!
Today marks the end of my year as your Vector Community Volunteer. It's been a wonderful
Project educate - Interview Stela one~stelaone is one of the few street artists that can definitely be said to be beautifying the streets. Her artwork is adorably cute and extremely feminine in comparison to the majority of street art out there today. She is also the founding member of the group #GraffitiGirls, well worth a check.Project educate - Interview Stela one1 year ago in Personal More Like This
What name do you go under, and what are it's origins?
Starchild Stela, because i’m a sort of alien kid.
What form of street art do you make?
I don't know what to answer to this one, since I use different ''Techniques''. I would describe it as some sort of feminist kawaii girl-loving art that I do in the street or on trains. I mostly paint characters even thought I paint cats and random objects sometimes. I never really qualify myself as a street or graffiti artist. I've been doing this for a couple years now, and I think the internalised mysoginy/ho
Community Q's! Why your q's are going unansweredSo I came up with this idea while seeing what my fellow CV's like to do (Did you know, etc) and what they generally like to post so i thought i'd try out something too and thats not necessarily GDA related Let's see how it goes Basically the reasoning behind it is...sometimes the forums can be a bit "intimidating" (quote from :iconastralseed: one of the members of the investigation team) and sometimes it's easier to have a question answered if you remain anonymous. This way you can ask your questions, choose to remain anonymous if you'd like and have a few people search for your answers and give you the best possible answer they canCommunity Q's! Why your q's are going unanswered8 months ago in Personal More Like This
I got a question Mune! How can my question get featured into the next Community Q's?
Great question random person! If you'd like your question to be answered by our investigation team digging through the community for your answer, drop :iconmaster-mune: a note!

Sta.shSo, sta.sh launched for everyone yesterday. The meeting that kick-started its development happened in May 2010:Sta.sh2 years ago in Personal More Like This
It feels like years ago. In July 2010 I started developing sta.sh and its underlying systems, helped by many colleagues from %dt.
I think most users won't realize how much work and how many people are involved in making something like this possible. The end product might be simple to use, but the underlying technology is by no means simple to design nor implement. Over 20 people from staff were directly involved with sta.sh, that's a huge project, one of our biggest to date.
Just to make sta.sh possible I had to entirely rewrite the code that handles deviations, a task that alone took more than 3 months. At one stage I had to rewrite the boilerplate code for each page of the site, which could not
FAQ Revamp Pt 4: Prints FAQ MergerHi Everyone!!!FAQ Revamp Pt 4: Prints FAQ Merger1 year ago in Personal More Like This
While we didn't get any extra time to focus on updating FAQs this week, we did see a major improvement launch on the Help & FAQ page. We are pleased to announce that the Prints FAQ is no longer separated from the Main FAQ!!! Prior to this change in order to even begin searching for Prints related information you had to click on the Prints section and then you would have the ability to search by keywords for anything related to Prints. To eliminate this problem the Prints FAQ has been merged into the main FAQ system. You can now type in print related keywords into the main FAQ and find all the information you need.
Please note nothing has changed in terms of the organization of the Prints FAQ everything should visually look the same, the only change is that the Main FAQ Search is now able to locate the Prints FAQs.
More updates to come soon

With the holidays winding down and people trying to get back on track (including me), it's been hard to get entries done for various contests. So, at the request of a couple of people, I am extending the deadline for the Opus by 1-week. The new deadline is:
Deadline is January 18, 2013 at 11:59 pm CST (-6 GMT)
So, now let's see more entries!!!
I hope you are, because that's the theme of the newest Opus contest. Not just super, but SUPER-HEROES! You know the type, cape blowing in the wind, beating up the bad guys, saving the day. Your challenge is to create the best emotion piece featuring a superhero. It can be an original hero or a known hero (like Batman or Ironman). Your piece can include a villain, but it must have one superhero. Though, it's up to you if the hero is m
International Women's DayWhat is International Women's Day?International Women's Day2 years ago in Personal More Like This
The following is quoted from the IWD website:
"International Women's Day has been observed since in the early 1900's, a time of great expansion and turbulence in the industrialized world that saw booming population growth and the rise of radical ideologies.
The new millennium has witnessed a significant change and attitudinal shift in both women's and society's thoughts about women's equality and emancipation. Many from a younger generation feel that 'all the battles have been won for women' while many feminists from the 1970's know only too well the longevity and ingrained complexity of patriarchy. With more women in the boardroom, greater equality in legislative rights, and an increased critical mass of women's visibility as impressive role models in every aspect of life, one could think that women have gained true equality. The unfortunate fact is that women are still

Original Quotes deviantWEAR Design Challenge!Original Quotes deviantWEAR Design Challenge!2 years ago in Personal More Like This
It's time for our next deviantWEAR Design Challenge, and this one is a little different. Writers, you play a crucial role! We're calling on deviants to create an original phrase, statement, or saying and transform these writings into an artistic and unique t-shirt design. Entries should display an imaginative phrase, expression, or statement as well as a beautiful presentation of the words in a "Design Typography" style.
We are not looking for famous quotes by historical figures, fictional characters, famous poets, and the like. Instead, we are excited to see designs and phrases in your very own words. So let your creative juices flow and share your inspiring words with the world! A picture tells a thousand words, but your typographical design for the "Original Quotes" entry will tell us even more!
Participation is easy!

deviantART no longer supports older browsersThe Internet is an ever-changing place. To take advantage of all it has to offer -- in terms of applications, games, add-ons and more -- it's important to surf the Net using a modern browser. The new capabilities made available in major browser releases allow Web developers (at deviantART and otherwise) to build faster, more stable and secure, Web technology. Additionally, keeping your browser up to date is one of the best ways to ensure your computer's safety on the Net.deviantART no longer supports older browsers2 years ago in Personal More Like This

New Journal Category TreeIn our continuous quest to improve the deviantART experience, we have made some changes to the Journal categories that have resulted in a much more condensed and simplified group of selections. The simplification of categories will make the Journal submission process even easier, and make it easier to browse and find Journals you love.New Journal Category Tree4 months ago in Personal More Like This
The old category tree was trying to be too specific, which in turn made it tough to find the right category to submit to. The new categories are meant to be clearer, broader, and more inclusive. Starting today, all existing Journals will be migrated to the new category tree.
by $techgnotic founder of %depthRADIUS
What lead to this decision, you may ask? Like the torrid fate of many categories, in trying to be all-inclusive and find an appropriate lid for every pot, all that’s really been achieved is a scattering of too much really great stuff

Please spread the word:
If you click a link that directs you through the deviantART "There Be Monsters Out There" outgoing link page and you unexpectedly return back to deviantART while logged out, check the URL of where you are before entering any of your details.
The proper URL for the actual deviantART login page is: deviantart.com/users/login. (Note that there is nothing between "deviantart" and "com" except for a "dot.")
If you find yourself unexpectedly logged out after clicking an offsite link, immediately check the URL to see if anything extra has been added -- this would indicate that you are in fact on a third-party website masquerading as deviantART. For example, if the URL reads something like deviantart.[som
