*Vellez asks "What is your creative process? Do you just research and then begin drawing when you get an assignment, or do you mull it over a bit?"
Hmm it usually starts with me getting the assignment since I spend my freetime drawing other things mostly (these days at least). As soon as I know what the client wants, I leave it alone for a couple of days and wait for ideas to sprout in my head. The rest is just craftsmanship, you know, drawing the stuff and everything. The real work is done as soon as I put down the thumbnail sketch.

Putting Up my WallsPutting Up My WallsPutting Up my Walls2 years ago in Free Verse More Like This
I used to have my walls down for everyone to come in
Anyone who seemed to care, anyone who "loved" me
But then I was used, thrown on the ground and stepped on
Till I was bruised, bleeding, weak and completely paralyzed
And from that day forward, I began to build up very tall walls
around my scarred up heart filled with shards of broken glass
So tall that if anyone were to even attempt and climb over them
That they'd become tired, and their hands full of oozing blisters.
No, I never had the desire to let one person in again to abuse me
The walls that have stood for years have caused my heart to chill
Because I didn't want to allow any ray of sunshine to come upon it
In fear that it would eventually become a horrible haunting darkness
That would cause me to recoil further into deep depressing despair
I'd rather be alone within these tall walls, then to be hurt again
For I believe even if I do find that one who manages to climb over
There will still be

My Journey to FaithMy own journey to faith has been a long complex one.My Journey to Faith4 years ago in Profiles More Like This
Like most African Americans of the 30's, my parents were raised in the church, but neither
of them were really Christians. Furthermore my dad had a bitter experience in church when he
was young that forever soured him to religion and he had absolutely no interest in it.
Mom believed in God and enjoyed watching Robert Schuller's on TV, but her belief in God was mixed
with a hodgepodge of other things, including reincarnation. She was also a firm believer in 'to each his own.'
She thought that all paths led to God and that as long as one led a good life that was enough.
Despite this, God had His hand on me, because from the time I was little I instinctively sought Him.
Very early on I had a deep curiosity and hunger for spiritual things. I loved Bible stories and was
very curious about God. On the few occasions my mom or some other relative took me to visit a church
or Sunday school, I always felt a strange yearning. I wanted something
Honor Your FallenOne for the man who answered the call.Honor Your Fallen2 years ago in Traditional Fixed Forms More Like This
One for the brother taken too soon.
One for the man who gave his all.
One for hearts made heavy and sad.
One for families torn apart
One for a boy now without his dad.
One for the endless tears,
One for the new struggles.
One for so many lost years.
One for the mother's only son,
One for the memories;
One more, one more until this war is won.
One for the brother coming home under his Nation's flag,
One for the ultimate sacrifice,
One for the man in the body bag.
One for the love of the fight,
One for family born not of blood.
One for that final flight.
One for the free.
One for you
Until it's just me.
A final salute for those who no longer hurt,
For the boys who paid the ultimate price;
Twenty one guns for my family in the dirt.

MisdemeanorSome call it discrimination. Some call it an invasion of privacy. Some call it justice. Forty years ago, when they started tagging us, there was a lot of talk about it. There were petitions and peaceful demonstrations, and riots and uprisings in some places. There were lawyers fighting on both sides and politicians kissing baby cheeks right and left – ours and theirs – while trying to figure out which side would bring them more votes. In the end it was decided the tags would stay on, but inactive. This way they don't know where we are until we use our powers. They're tuned in on our brainwaves somehow and when we use whatever gifts evolution has given us, the alarm goes off. Then it can only be turned off when we're at the police station for questioning. I suppose it could be worse: they were thinking of killing us off at some point. But it still doesn't feel right to know it's illegal to use your full potential.Misdemeanor2 years ago in Short Stories More Like This

Soft And Furry ThingsBased on the movie How To Train Your Dragon.Soft And Furry Things4 years ago in Fan Fiction More Like This
This was a story that was done with the awesome help of Cheesefritters.
The story takes place mid-movie, when Hiccup and Toothless are still training.
Hiccup made his way up the large hill to his house. It was a long climb, and steep too, but most of the paths on Berk were the same. After all the island was mostly one giant mountain. And the fact that he had to carry two large basket's of fish up these paths weren't that good either. He knew trying to take care of Toothless in his home would be dangerous and hard, but not this hard. Struggling up the final climb, he saw the dim light of fire form inside his house, and even heard the low rumbling of his very hungry dragon.
Pushing against the heavy door, Hiccup made his way into the house, dragging the baskets from behind him. "Toothless? You around here buddy?" he called out playfully, knowing it would be hard for the large dragon to hide anywhere.
One of Toothless's ears perked up from

A voiceover states that some people like a little extra something. Meanwhile, a woman goes to her fridge and gets the product in question. She has a taste of the product, no flavouring, and isn't impressed. She then adds the flavouring and has another taste. She likes it. As soon as she has had a taste of the flavoured product, she grows an extra arm. This impresses her even more.

The birds chirped happily just outside the window of the kitchen as morning light streamed onto the tile floor. A gentle summer breeze brought with it the scent of afternoon rains as Caitlyn Jones busied herself with the usual household work. Occasionally, she would glance up at the service banner that hung in the window, smiling distantly.
America was off in Korea, following the orders of their boss. She was rather used to this sort of thing occurring. Her husband had fought in every war they were ever involved in, meaning she knew well enough by now what must be done to keep the people going while America was over-seas. She still had secondary power to America, but this was expected. If it was anything major, he would be contacted and removed from service temporarily to deal with the issue. She found that system worked rather well, as it gave her the opportunity to see her husband whenever he was called home.
There was a brisk knock at the door, followed by the usual yippings of her

For some reason Ludwig felt stressed, something bugged him at the back of his mind. Something wasn't right but...he just couldn't put his fingers on it. He took his glasses off placing his pen onto the lamp lit table and rubbed his temple, the question circling in his mind. He stood up, switched the lamp off, lay on his bed and stared up at the wooden roof. Outside an owl hooted and rain pounded onto the fields.
Ludwig knocked on (Name)'s cabin door.

Female to Male MakeupApplication of Makeup in Order to Make a Feminine Face More MasculineFemale to Male Makeup5 years ago in Academic Essays More Like This
When it comes to "passing" as one sex or the other, it is generally easier for 'women' to pass as 'men'. This is because the cues that signal the brain to the male sex are generally bigger, more protruding, and things that to feminise must be hidden - not enhanced.
This does not mean that it is "easier" to accomplish with makeup, people trying to do either generally fall victim to the same problem - not being able to see and understand the face on a very basic level - understanding what our instincts instruct.
This "tutorial" will focus mainly on the face, touching generally on use of clothing and binding for a "total" appearance. I will try to cover things important for part-time and full-times as well.
PLEASE KEEP IN MIND - where referring to the differences in appearance, this is obviously not going to be truth for all men. Just like the concept of beauty, the difference between male and female has no exact formul

I slouched down as far as I could without hurting myself, in the darkest of the dark booths in the back of the bar, quietly nursing a large glass of booze. The darkness reflected my mood rather well. Sure, I looked calm enough outwardly, but anyone fool enough to meet my eyes would see the cold fury burning there. Plenty of male spacers in the bar, but they showed a surprising display of good sense and utterly failed to hit on me. Which was good because in this position, my boot was in ideal striking range for certain sensitive areas of the male anatomy, and at that moment I was more than willing to kick any male who pissed me off where it hurt the most. There was one person in p
