Every day someone celebrates a birthday. This is my take on a birthday gone wrong. In this case, a teddy bear did not take kindly to being replaced. I didn't want to make it dark and gloomy, because that is when you wait for something bad to happen. I think the most terrifying events occur when you least expect them. Though this isn't terrifying, I do find it somewhat creepy.
Edit Made the semis, yaaaayy!!! A huge THANK YOU to everyone for the faves & watches. You don't know how much I appreciate them
Here's my entry for the Insidious contest. An everyday activity turned sinister. I love cereal. I'm mortally f**king terrified of spiders. Seemed like a good mix. I seriously gave myself the heebie-jeebies while drawing this. After these last two contest pieces, I need to draw something happy and cheerful haha
Edit: Tightened up a couple of things, put some perspective on the "film grain" and tried to further define my warm vs. cool tones. Please let me know if it's coming out too dark or anything!
What brings most monsters to life for us is watching them on tv. This poor little boy had an insidious encounter with his late night viewing. The image quite literally decides to come out after him. Gradual at first. In utter shock he stairs and hopes he's just sleepy...but the television has become a nightmarish portal. Acrylic on canvas. Hope I have a shot, good luck everyone!!!
It was always there in the shadows Watching while she worked Waiting
Very fun, and very creepy to work on. C: Always learning and crafting; the download is rather huge.... since the canvas is a little under 20x12 inches... >< (Originally I was working on a 50x30 canvas)
Also, When I upload things to DA the files seem to darken substantially...and I lose some of the detailing in the dark areas, is anyone else having this Issue?
The thing that creeps me out the most is when you are sleeping, and you get this feeling that there is something else with you, and you really REALLY don't want to wake up or open your eyes. So I did this piece where this guy is just chilling out on his porch reading/listening to music, and of course.. he has to fall asleep. And what do you know, evil grandma there wants to pay him a visit.. maybe stick around and bake him a pie. ;D
The saying goes, "When you stare into the void, the void stares back at you." I tried to create something unsettling in a nondescript place. What hides in those shadows between the coats? Will you become part of the darkness also?
Darkness is one of the most frightening things that I believe humans have to live with. One of the reasons I have created this picture is because of how darkness has related to me. On several occasions I have awakened from a deep sleep only to see dark creepy figures hovering around my bed. I am awake and alert, and I know the things that I see are probably not real, but I cannot help but think "what if this time it's real?"
I'm terrible with titles. I don't know. Anyway, graphite on paper. I had another idea for the insidious contest. That's one of the reasons I like these contests--they give me ideas I wouldn't have had otherwise, force me to work with a time constraint, and I always feel like I learn something. Plus I got to practice feet! Also, I've noticed that bathrooms seem to symbolize vulnerability for me. Which makes things scarier.
I suppose surgery may not be something that happens in everyone's daily life but it does happen to some more than others. I for one am terrified of surgery, though this image isn't about tomophobia but Anesthesia Awareness instead. For those of you who don't know anesthesia awareness is when a patient who is undergoing surgery dose not receive enough anesthesia. As a result the brain remains awake and the patient can feel every cut, nip and tug performed by the doctors. The body is paralyzed so the patient can't even inform the doctor of the pain they are in. It's horrible and it's real. My image is more of a worst case scenario because the doctors are intentionally trying to harm the patient.
