How To Deal With ART BLOCKSOk, if you guys are still wondering, this post may help you. Its just a way I go on about it.How To Deal With ART BLOCKS4 years ago in Personal More Like This
First of all, what is an art block? Just like writer's block, an artist gets an art block. Its a state where you either; can't think of anything to draw, your drawings turn out crap, you're just not getting your drawings right, or just uninspired.
So how do I deal with it?
The very first thing you MUST do is to actually STOP DRAWING. This is your brain telling you to take a break.
If you force yourself out of an art block, it ALWAYS shows. It will look rushed or unthought of.
Second, is try and do something else NOT related to art/creativity... Go for a run, watch TV, read a book, play games, see friends etc.
Third; try and listen to music. Calm your brain and get rid of your thought process. Music is a way of simulation, sometimes you will get inspiration from it.
If you have an idea of what sort of thing you're after but just cant get it right in the end, this is where I think music helps. E

Instagram Can Sell Your Photos Without Paying YouEDIT 19/12/12: Instagram has responded.Instagram Can Sell Your Photos Without Paying You3 years ago in Art Features More Like This
Though the language they use seems to want to overly passify rather than address issues. "Your photos are your photos and we respect that." is a nice sentiment but does not necessarily exclude "we have the right to license and use your stuff even though you own the content" By signing up to instagram you are giving them permission to do this even though you do technically own the content you are submitting.
I'm not going to flail my arms about doom, but I will say, artists be aware. Not just about this, but about any contracts you sign. There is some real sketchy language in the fine print here that needs to be clarified or changed as of right now. More than just an "everything's fine, don't worry" letter. Company lawyers have a tendency to try to take the largest chunk of whatever they can, and only back off when their actions are made public and they ar

Hey dear watchers,
Here's a new XPS Countdown version! As a reminder: You are not forced to update! It is your own choice on how many updates you actually download and use.
- Yepp we thought it'd be kinda fun to have a few small versions before XPS 11!
1. Bone axis can be visualized. The Config Menu has a new option to display a coordinate cross along with the feature to turn on/off x-ray.
2. The ground plane can be customized by expanding the directory "data\Floor". These variations can then be activated with "Config->swap ground".
3. The Control window isn't as wide anymore.

Winter is Coming
Few phrases are more closely associated with the Game of Thrones fandom than this one. We know that winters in Game of Thrones are long, often lasting several years. It is also difficult for people in that world to predict when the seasons will change, the Citadel even has a special, rare breed of white raven they send out to deliver the news of the changing season. While this may just be the way that the seasons in the world of Game of Thrones

No More Unauthorized ArtworkRegarding the debate of whether comic artists should continue selling unauthorized prints/sketches of characters they don't own, I think Bissette and his legal advisor are 100% correct. So from now on, I won't be doing any sketches or commissions at shows of any character that I don't own. Am I rolling over in fear of Marvel? Maybe, but as it states below, they're in their legal right to come after me if there's ever a dispute. I love to complain about the Big Two, but I can't (in good conscience) get upset at them if I'm breaking the rules myself. Being DC exclusive, maybe I can get a waiver that allows me to sketch DC characters, so I'll keep you updated. No More Unauthorized Artwork4 years ago in Personal More Like This

Hello everybody, it's time for a contest again! :'D
With the release of my comic Crash 'n' Burn with Tokyopop in August, I thought the best way to grab people's attention is to throw a mega awesome contest out there, so here it is!
The task is pretty easy: Draw your OC (one or more) interacting with one or more Crash 'n' Burn members!
Your OC can be a fan, a roadie, a rival, a friend, or just meet them somewhere by chance, you can think up any scenario you like~ The world/location is up to you, though the CnB crew live in our world, in our time. All mediums are allowed. Have fun!

Custom Breaking Bad FiguresCustom Breaking Bad Figures4 years ago in Personal More Like This
Last year I sculpted up a few portraits of Bryan Cranston as Walter White from my favorite show "Breaking Bad". I was finally able to put the finishing touches on 3 custom figures of Walt, all of which were given to the creators of the show this past week.
It's been a helluva lot of fun, and a tremendous thrill to get to meet the artists behind this terrific show that has been so inspiring to me. Kinder people you will not meet!
So here's a look at the finished custom figures. These were pieced together from various sources, using Hot Toys bodies, and clothes I found on ebay and then altered. The heads were all painted by some talented friends of mine, and they really brought Walt to life. It's been a lot of work to try and piece these together in my free time, but I really enjoyed doing it.
ps- A random winner was chosen from my last giveaway. I'll do another giveaway in the coming months, I'm sure. thanks!
Authentic CitizenshipOnce Again, The Room Fell Away. The prodigious artistic and cultural exchange that we have all committed ourselves to building, to participating in and to sharing with each other every day at deviantART often occurs in RL on the decks of HQ as well. One of the best aspects of being in my position here at deviantART is the privilege to curate salons with artists of every medium and success level imaginable, art appreciators, writers, and educators from all points of light within the deviantART community inviting them to make the trek to HQ for what always manifests as an inspiring, thoughtful, educative, and enlightening dialogue. But sometimes, sometimes, things rise to a whole other level. You suddenly find yourself magically reaching that special deviantART "destination" that is a connection point of art, life, community and communication that has no specific Office # designation. Character Design: An introductionCharacter Design: An introduction3 years ago in Art Features More Like This
Arvalis-2012 by arvalis
What does 'Character Design' mean?
The character design is the process which comes after the characterisation and consists in defining the character through his/her physical appearance.
We need to consider a character as a little fictional creature, human or not, that aims to please its creator and the public as well.
While the basic characterization of this fictional creature (his tastes, his fears, his behaviors) may take a little mental effort, as it is a sort of list of emotions, facts and feelings that come and go in the life of a character, the process of visual realization of this creature may not be as simple. That's why many writers and characters creators prefer to rely on experienced hands.
Also many of the mental aspects of the character are not possible to gain by using 'static' visual medium. For 'static' I mean all the illustrations and drawings unable to tell a
A Moment of SilenceSo I have been mulling over what to do all day.A Moment of Silence1 year ago in Personal More Like This
I don't want to keep being a downer, making everyone sad with my journals and art.
But my art is inspired by my feelings.
I've been looking at everyone's journals, art, and comments all day. The fandom is in distress now more than ever.
I have read all of your comments on the stuff I've posted. I have literally THOUSANDS of new comments and replies ..... guys I'm so overwhelmed, I wish I could reply to them, and I really want to. But please give me time.
You all are my number 1 priority here.... my art comes last. I will stop making art before I stop addressing you. FNAF and art is only a tool that we have used to build a community.... our friendships and family will last longer than FNAF ever will.
I think that, in all of this confusion..... the best thing for me to do right now is nothing. No more art until I figure out where I want to take the fandom.

average pay rates for comic book artists:"Generally, the good graphic novels fetch $100 - $300 per page, although professionals who have been in the industry for a long time can command as much as three times that amount. In fact, one elite illustrator commanded as much as $1,000 a page (on a 22-page comic book)! Most of the popular titles that artists, like David Cassaday, work on are monthly issues, which end up providing him with a six-figure salary. The back-end royalties on merchandise, trade paperbacks and movie royalties are also generous."average pay rates for comic book artists:3 years ago in Personal More Like This
"In 2008, Sean Jordan, founder of Army Ant Publishing, claimed established freelance comic book artists were paid anywhere from $220 to $4,400 per book project, which breaks down to $10 to $200 per page. Pencil and inker artists can ask for $75 to $200 a page. Colorists often fall in the range of $35 to $125, and writers and letterers make $10 to $50 a page.
