Jin Attempts To Explain Cosplay Photography As requested by many of you, I've submitted this guide as a dA news article. Here is the link. I'm happy this proved to be useful for a lot of you guys! It's the least I can do to give a little something back for your appreciation of our work. Thank you!Jin Attempts To Explain Cosplay Photography7 years ago in Personal More Like This
First of all, let me warn you that by the end of this journal entry, you may find yourself sick of my face. (If you aren't already.) I'll be using mostly myself as an example for the things I'm going to discuss, because I'm the only person I can poke fun at without restrictions.
I get asked a lot of questions about these cosplay photos that most of you have come to know me for. Sometimes it's about the techniques we use, requests for tips and advice for other people who want to do something similar. Other times, the comments come from people who aren't familiar with cosplay, but are curious about it and are interested to know more. So I thought of making this li

Some news before explanations and rules. (yes, no one will care my news, but I’d like to write something )
Thanks to a friend, now I have at least a decent homepage on my (never used ) website: www.adaman.it The "under construction" page has been removed and now there is a fantastic script showing a random selection of my photos - all taken during cosplay fairs or private photo set. Click on a photo to start the fullscreen view.

Tutorial: Cosplay Boy Make-up IIThis is part two of the "Cosplay Boy make-up" tutorial. Make sure to read the first part as well. This part of the tutorial is mostly thanks to my wife chibinis-chan who did the modeling for it.
She is doing her eye make-up after applying basic make-up like shown before. She will show you one make-up with different colors. I'm holding this tutorial very short with just the steps as such because I already wrote all the tips for applying in the first part of this tutorial.
First she is using black kajal to draw a line on the eyelid and under the waterline of her right eye. The line under her eye is about 1/3 of the complete length of the waterline.
After this she uses brown eye shadow to blend it a lit

Walt Disney, John Pomeroy, and meWhat do all three of us have in common? Animation, of course. But as far as this posting goes, there are two seperate bits of info I'm giving you:Walt Disney, John Pomeroy, and me1 year ago in Personal More Like This
1) I just saw this link http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OAl9P4T12Rs&featurelayer_embedded to a much loved video of Walt Disney talking about "art style". I as a part of some Disneyland show he did for TV way back when, but it is one of THE BEST looks at the individuality of the artists at the studio back then. Its one of the few times that Disney acknowledges how many different styles reside in the animation studio and that they must all melve together to create one vision. But also contribute their "pieces of uniqueness" in the creation of the ultimate style of a film. It also includes the famous clip, "Four artists paint a tree" that is the second half of the video and plays out all that he says before. A MUST SEE FOR ANY ARTIST!
2) Just last night, I did a podcast interview with leg

Tutorial: Cosplay Boy Make-up ISo, this is the first part of the "Cosplay boy make-up" tutorial. It has way too much text and pictures to put it into just one journal, so I will divide it.Tutorial: Cosplay Boy Make-up I2 years ago in Personal More Like This
As always~ English is not my native language so you might come across mistakes. My apologies! If anything is unclear feel free to ask me in the comments.
I'm just showing you what works for me and what's my personal liking. I'm focusing on eye make-up and additional tips. If you think this way of doing a boys cosplay make-up is is using way too much make-up that's totally fine. Everyone has his/her own preferences and this tutorial is just a hint who it can be done.
The shape of eyes differ a lot from one to another, so if you want to try it the way I do my make-up you might have to adjust it to your own eyes. Maybe you have already run into this problem before while seeing a well done eye make-up in a tutorial or worn by an asian cosplayer. Furthermore be aware of the fact that the shape of your eyebrows, wearing c

RIP Diane Disney MillerEarlier today Walt Disney's daughter, Diane Disney Miller passed away. She was 79 years old.RIP Diane Disney Miller11 months ago in Personal More Like This
From Disney Blogs:
"We are deeply saddened by the loss of Diane Disney Miller and our thoughts are with her family during his difficult time. As the beloved daughter of Walt Disney and one of his inspirations for creating Disneyland, she holds a special place in the history of The Walt Disney Company and in the hearts of fans everywhere. She will be remembered for her grace and generosity and tireless work to preserve her father’s legacy, and she will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
Diane was a fierce guardian of her father’s legacy who never hesitated to set the record straight, opening The Walt Disney Family Museum in San Francisco to bring her father’s fascinating story to life. In our many conversations over the years, Diane’s unique and special perspective about her father only deepened my considerable appreciation for him. Diane was incredibly ge

A fear years ago I stopped submitting my work to publishers. I just got tired of hearing my work was not good enough or that I was not what they were looking for or hearing nothing at all. I'm not telling people to not submit, I myself just got worn down by never hearing anything positive.
I had stories in my head to tell. Ideas forming and building and dreams that were very very big. So instead of giving up hoping that someone else would make my stories reality, I decided to do it myself. I had nothing to loose and everything to gain. I still believe that.
That's not to say I would sign, if someone wanted my work and if the deal was right I would do it. Yet, those opportunities have never arisen. I am not too worried about it though. I've always had to figure it all my own, to learn everything about creating, publishing, distribution and marketing. To make mistakes, fail and get back up. The road of a self-publisher is a hard one.
There are many many long hours
1st Anniversary (Feature It Monday) Contest!Hi, everyone1st Anniversary (Feature It Monday) Contest!9 months ago in Personal More Like This
We have a couple of important announcements to mention today.
On 15th January, Feature It Monday is one year old, and to celebrate this moment of importance, we will be hosting a contest, based on a birthday feature theme: (this is completely open to interpretation), so let your imaginations fly
The contest will run from today, until 27th January (12pm - UK GMT) and as soon as the contest closes, we'll be putting up the entrants for member's voting (27/1 - 30/1).
The entrant with the most votes, will be announced on the 31st January, and will win a one month front page feature
The contest is open to all artistic mediums, and all member's of Feature It Monday!
To celebrate the 15th of January on a more personal level, I'll be doing what I know you've all been waiting for - an interview with myself, about my art!
Normally, I like to let my art speak for me, but just this once, I'll answer the interview questions tha
Tom B. General updateHey everybody, I hope you're doing well. I just wanted to plop on here and- for once- not sell anything. I thought I'd just say, "Blah, the weather is rainy" for starters. I'm super busy with about 4 different jobs and preparing for some trips/lectures. I'm excited about most all of it. One cool thing is it looks like I might be going to Orlando and Vancouver to speak at two of the EA video game studios! Its the two that do the sports games but I won't be talking sports (thank goodness- not a sports guy), I'll be talking about performance/acting in your animation. Something they don't get to do a lot of but will be doing more and more of in the future, I'm sure. I have good friends at the Orlando office so looking forward to seeing them. BEFORE that, there's a local comic con here (in Nashville, TN) that I was just invited to just the other day. It's called GMX (httpTom B. General update2 years ago in Personal More Like This
The Harder I Practice, the Luckier I Get.I was practicing in a bunker down in Texas and this good old boy with a big hat stopped to watch. The first shot he saw me hit went in the hole. He said, “You got 50 bucks if you knock the next one in.” I holed the next one. Then he says, “You got $100 if you hole the next one.” In it went for three in a row. As he peeled off the bills he said, “Boy, I’ve never seen anyone so lucky in my life.” And I shot back, “Well, the harder I practice, the luckier I get.” --Gary Palmer, Golf Digest, 2002.The Harder I Practice, the Luckier I Get.2 months ago in Personal More Like This
A lot of people attribute Gary Palmer with originating the expression, "The harder I practice, the luckier I get." Even he seems to think he did. He didn't, but that's beside the point. There's a reason the quote is popular, and not just among golfers and other athletes.
All great opportunities in life, frankly, really do start
Costumery Feature #1 : Fairytale-like detailsHello everyoneCostumery Feature #1 : Fairytale-like details1 month ago in Art Features More Like This
As LARGELY anticipated, I decided to start a feature journal to display some amazing works of fellow costume makers
At first I wanted to make a weekly one, but work is catching up to me so I think for the first months it will be more like a as-soon-as-I-can-feature...sorry about this (>__<)
I will also make a special, general artisan craft feature every couple of costumery feature
For the first feature I chose the theme "Fairytale-like details". The dresses I featured are not strictly fairytale-related, but they have details that I associate with a dreamlike, fairytale atmosphere
Some pieces are from the crafters' galleries, some are from photographers
