Cosplay photo blog for ToyCon 2013!ToyCon 2013!
So we went to Toycon last Saturday and as usual I... didn't really get to take pictures of toys and stuff. It was so crowded around the merchandise hall that I couldn't stop and take photos because people were constantly threading through and shoving. It was like a river of people with an actual current, hahah! Sometimes I'd find a friend to chat with but we'd eventually be pulled apart by the tide, it was kind of funny.
I wanted to wear something simple and comfortable so I posted on my Facebook that I would wear my old Ichigo cosplay in his Karakura High uniform. The Bleach manga is so crazy now that it just made me miss the days when Bleach was simple.
I think this is the last decent picture of myself that I have wearing this, and it was taken ages ago.
And here it is on me again, with a new wig, better contact lenses, better wig styling and cosplay makeup skills (somewhat), and Kon plush that was give

Team Sasuke at Ozine Fest Day 3
So here are pictures from our day out last Sunday! Some are from my phone, others are from Facebook friends (Thanks, Jannibee and Benelyn!) and people who have sent me snapshots over Twitter!
Let's start with a group shot! Our theme was Sasuke and his teachers (and his flirt of an alternate universe self from Road to Ninja)

Time flew by very fast, and before we knew it...
Our first day was spent doing a lot of eating, thanks to our guide Alyssa I will justify it as us fueling up for an action-packed weekend! We tried nasi lemak for the first time (LOVED IT), had some shaved ice desserts after, then a big dinner of clay pot rice, stir-fry noodles with clams, really tasty chicken wings, etc. and THEN we still raided Pick N' Pay for our midnight snacks because we love convenience stores and we wanted to try things we don't have in Manila.
We planned our cosplays ahead with Team Kachang Puteh, the guests from Singapore. Our theme for the first day of HobbyCon was Shingeki no Kyojin!

A couple of weeks ago, we attended an event called Fantasy Quest 2. (The very first Fantasy Quest was when we cosplayed Harry Potter characters.)
It was a pretty special day for us because four years ago, we had our first shoot and bonding day with Ysabel SavingSunlight at the venue, Fernwood Gardens.
We've been really into Adventure Time, so many months ago we decided we'd do AT cosplay, and that Fantasy Quest would be a fun opportunity to do so. It feels weird how we had been looking forward to this event for ages, and now it's over!

Free! Iwatobi Swim Club cosplay shoot outtakes! When my friends and I first heard of "that swimming anime" called Free!, this is pretty much what we expected:Free! Iwatobi Swim Club cosplay shoot outtakes!1 year ago in Personal More Like This
Not that there's anything wrong with that hahah, but all we were expecting was to be able to laugh at how exploitable and full of fanservice this show could be because swimming would require everyone to be half-naked. Although it started out that way, the more episodes we watched, the more we realized...
We were wrong. So wrong.
What we got was a heartwarming coming-of-age story with endearing characters and interesting dynamics. It spoke of friendship and learning your self-worth and figuring out what drives you forward.
I'd write more about how I feel about it but it would take up too much time and space over here, so here are a couple of posts that have already done the job well:

Revisiting Naruto cosplay + Road to Ninja Movie! So I've heard of this film for a long while, but never got to watch it for lack of a proper subbed copy/DVD release. Sometime last month, some happy news reached our shores — Road to Ninja would be showing at our local cinemas!! I know it's been a while since its first release but I'm glad I waited before resorting to well, less legal ways of watching it! Hahah! Here is a stupid rap I wrote and slapped on a manga panel:
Would Killer Bee be proud of me? HAHAH
I had the honor of being invited to the special advanced screening at Director's Club before it hit the cinemas! Major thanks to Ica and Movie Punch for having us over!

Many, many months ago last July (that's how late this entry is) a cosplay event was held in the most beautiful location that the local cosplay community has ever seen. Fernbrook Gardens the wedding & events destination which you might recognize from our Kuroshitsuji http://behindinfinity.deviantart.com/gallery/29228688 and Harry Potter cosplay photoshoots http://behindinfinity.deviantart.com/gallery/31767781
It was around that time that the world was getting ready for the final Harry Potter movie, so my friends and I decided that perhaps it was about time to push through with our plans to cosplay Harry Potter characters. Parts of Fernbrook Gardens also looked like Hogwarts so we figured it would be appropriate.
Photos are from my friends, some from albums I was tagged in on Facebook, and some from my own camera.
Here I am with most of my friends that I went to the event with, along with Arnel akagii2004 whom we met that day as he was

We loved both the Shippu! Konoha Gakuen Den omake episode and the Michi ending (which we hope to do a proper recreation of when more characters are ready) so we really looked forward to having a shoot based on them. After several days of rainy weather, the sun shone brightly for us that day. I think everyone had fun speculating coming up with situations for that alternate Naruto universe, as well as revisiting our own high school memories.
And a new ID!

The Host Club is now open! (updated)Ouran High School Host ClubThe Host Club is now open! (updated)7 years ago in Personal More Like This
We recently had an Ouran High School Host Club photoshoot, organized by Cyfliq. It started out as a Honey-sempai & Mori pictorial for Ysabel Ken-chan-Byakushi and Kune kunebitt, and she invited the rest of us to come hang out during the shoot. We said we'd be glad to help out with taking pictures and anything else, and later figured that we could join in as characters as well. The rest of us didn't have a lot of time to prepare their uniforms so we just used casual clothes we already had. So yeah, sorry about the outfit and wig inconsistencies for now. This was just closet cosplay for a lot of us, haha.
That day was a lot of fun but we're also looking forward to the second Ouran shoot with a slightly different cast and proper costumes. Hopefully we get to do more than the usual school uniforms since the Host Club cosplays as well.

On misunderstandings about cosplayThis is a topic I've been meaning to talk about for quite a while now. I finally got the motivation to when Sarah sorairo-days emailed me to share my thoughts on what cosplay means to me, and what I feel it really means to be a cosplayer despite all the misconceptions about the hobby. It's for this article on Random Nerds, in which Sarah shares her side of it as well.On misunderstandings about cosplay3 years ago in Personal More Like This
Over the years, I've witnessed how cosplayers are constantly looked down upon, which makes people apprehensive towards it. It's such a shame because it's a wonderful and rewarding hobby which brings people together. And in general, I am firmly against making anyone feel bad about doing something they want to do.
I am aware that the concept of cosplay might be too much for some individuals, but our intention definitely isn't to get all up in everyone's faces and say everyone should cosplay or whatever. We just want to promote a

Yeah, the ending animation with the line, "Dakara... Please kiss me, please kiss me all night..." Err... Well, it WAS a yaoi con after all.
Let me just say that it was really breezy walking around in next to nothing but a robe. I actually should have left the top more open to show the bandages around the waist part as seen in the ending animation (linked above) but I should probably add clips and hooks on other parts of the

Here's my usual (ang getting increasingly late) report about the cons we attend!
We went as a Disney group last Toycon! And I just realized we don't have a decent complete group shot. That's okay I guess because it's definitely not the last time we'll be wearing the costumes, and we all had things we wanted to improve. We have a habit of doing that with new cosplays wear them to a con and observe pictures from it after to see what looked wrong or felt uncomfortable about the costumes or wigs or makeup. It's helpful! Some of our friends were also unable to join us for Toycon so we'll definitely be doing this again.
Most of the photos are from my camera but I borrowed some from friends and albums we were tagged in.
LET'S GET DOWN TO BUSINESS-

Last Saturday was the first day of the Toys, Hobbies and Collectibles Convention 2009. ToyCon was the first con we started going to regularly, so it's kind of been a tradition among us friends to attend.
Kat moonlightflight, China snowpeachdrop, Miguel merkymerx, Ysabel and I wore our Rurouni Kenshin costumes, and we were all very happy that JM angrylittleboy was able to come hang out with us. He's our favorite Saitou. Charmie yaoiangel14 showed her love for Macross in the new Sheryl Nome outfit she made. I think it's my favorite of all her work. Dom Weakman, Rayson sinag-araw and EJ Dinkyass were in crack cosplay again, as you will see better later on.

A lot of you have been asking about the location, and I apologize but the activity organizers and property owner have advised us not to disclose that information. I hope it suffices to say it is not really a place for simply doing photoshoots, and we were just very fortunate to be invited. The place is private property reserved for special occasions. That's why I've been severely lacking in updates over here, but my Facebook page, Tumblr and Twitter have been getting a fair bit of action. I feel like on those sites I can just thought vomit and blurt things out.
This page though has significant sentimental value to me because it was the starting point for so many things. I wouldn't even know where to begin. Sorry I couldn't update sooner! I've been wanting to make this post since right after Fanime but after that I spent a couple of days catching up on sleep and going around San Francisco, then it was time to fly off to Maryland to visit my cousins who dragged me over to New York right after I got there. Now we're back in Maryland, and I can have my quiet time.
I was actually feeling kinda down right before we left. I'm just very sentimental when it comes to departures, I guess. Ever since vacation started, I spent a lot of time with my friends, and I couldn't help thinking about how much I'd miss them while I was on the other side of the world.

For those of you who have the patience to read for some extra info!
When I started cosplaying, I didn't think makeup was such a major part of it. I was so hesitant to even put eyeliner because I'd think, "This character is a guy, I shouldn't look like I'm wearing makeup!" And I guess I was silly enough to think I looked enough like the characters I chose without doing anything to my face?
I can't find more pictures of my really old cosplays (which is just as well, hahah) from the time I didn't want to use makeup apart from these:
I cosplayed as Haku from Naruto. I don't remember wearing any makeup for this. It doesn't show too well on these pictures but I saw some others where the natural redness of my lips made it look like I was wearing lipstick even if I wasn't. I felt it made me look more feminine than I should. Haku is still a guy after al
