Beta-Reader Match-Making: A Fan Fiction ContestJust a reminder that even if you missed Phase One, you can still jump in and participate as an editor for Phase Two! Just comment or note me and I'll randomly assign you a story to edit!Beta-Reader Match-Making: A Fan Fiction Contest2 years ago in Deviant Events More Like This
My tenure as Community Volunteer of Fan Fiction ends tomorrow, and I want to go out with a bang. So here's one more competition with prizes so you'll all remember me fondly!
A writer's best friend is another writer. Sometimes you just cannot objectively look over your own work and fix all your mistakes. You need a fresh pair of eyes to help you, and who better than someone else who understands the labors of love you're undertaking? That is where editors come in. But for many people, finding a literary helpmate can be difficult.
What's this about?
This is a two-part contest for writers of fan fiction. Phase One: Write a fan fiction but don't bother to proofread it. Post it in its raw, unedited first draft (just make sure it's still legible--correct your typos, at the ve
April Fools Day Promise"Pwease, Mudsy?" 2D questioned, following the bassist from the kitchen and towards the lift.April Fools Day Promise5 years ago in Sketches More Like This

A slight grin passed over the singer's face. "Coz ah wanna. Pwease??"
Murdoc stepped from the lift, starting towards the Winnie with the younger still close behind him.
"Fine!" He turned towards the younger with an unamused look.
"Yay!" 2D quickly pecked him on the lips, smiling with a giggle.
"The'e, 'appy??" Murdoc growled.
"Can' believe ah pwromised yew 'at." He grumbled, opening the Winnie door. 2D tapped his shoulder lightly, getting a look from the older man.

Announcing the CRLiterature Book Club! Here at CRLiterature, we wanted to find a fun way to get the community reading -- and reading together. What better way is there than to have a new book to enjoy as a group every month?Announcing the CRLiterature Book Club!2 years ago in Literature Features More Like This
How do you participate in Book Club? Here are your simple instructions:
1. Acquire the book.
2. Read the book.
3. Stay tuned to the CRLiterature group for discussion journals and chats.
BONUS: We will be giving out arbitrary prizes to some participants each month!
We are hoping to select books that push the community's boundaries, in terms of what we're already reading, but that will also have mass appeal. We are also going to be choosing books that are widely available across English-speaking nations (for now Book Club is English-only) and across e-reading platforms. By rotating moderators, we are hoping that selections will be diverse, both in terms of style and genre, and in terms of author background and point of view.
We are also excited at the possibility of

Hello! In this article I will be teaching you some tips on the message center! Just some features and settings you may not have been aware of that I find very useful.c:
This is probably how your journals look by default, since the day you first visited your message center. Let's play around with some settings that may make some things easier for you!
So by clicking on the box that has a bunch of lines on it, you can get the journals (or any other part of the message center) look like how favorites and watches are displayed in your message center! This feature can be very useful if you like to see a bunch of things at the same time, and don't really care about the preview text. Or maybe also if you just want to take a quick skim right now, and look at the items that seem interesting and take the rest of the dive later.

This activity bolsters exposure for creators across social media, resulting in new people discovering their art.
Is there an artist you would like to nominate (traditional, cosplay, crafter, digital)? Do you have what it takes? You may nominate up to three users, yourself included but there are some qualifying rules:
1: Nominee must have made an HTTYD-themed creation since April 1, 2013
2: Nominee must have at least 5 HTTYD-themed creations in their gallery total.
We will take nominations for HTTYD 2013 March Madness until Sunday, February 25th. We will need 64 creators total, we will take them as first nominated, first served. If we are lac
Short vs. Long - Contest Contest closed, thank you for participating!Short vs. Long - Contest2 years ago in Literature Features More Like This
Story planning isn't about length—you can use all of the tips throughout this week to figure out anything from a very well-researched drabble to a cycle of novels.
So I'm just taking a moment to talk about the big difference between writing a short vs. long work. I'm not hashing out every distinction—I'm leaving microfiction in particular to the experts—so for our purposes here a short story is anything from 1,000 to 10,000 words and a novel is 40,000 words and above. (Literaticat will tell you different things. Trust her.)
The basics are the same: you need a beginning, middle, and end (yes, short stories are complete stories)! You need an engaging protagonist who works well with the plot, and there's the same range of available genres.
So what is the difference?
Scope. A short story has to be <
TMNT:: OST: Sleeping with Big Brother LeoLeo asked Splinter for extra training sessions, Raph and Donnie thought he was crazy. With the edition of Mikey to the family two years ago Leo wanted to be sure he could protect his baby brother the best he could and that meant more training. Leo sighed and he laid down the the couch. Today’s session was rough. He was tired and did not want to move. Leo could hear rough footsteps, he know it was Mikey who still had some difficulty walking. Leo turned his head to see Mikey holding his bottle and his stuffed turtle a blanket.TMNT:: OST: Sleeping with Big Brother Leo2 years ago in General Fiction More Like This

“Yes, Kraang. All the creatures that Kraang is experimenting on are in separate containers and are ready for that which is known as mutation. In five units known as time, that which Kraang will administer will be administered.”
From the shadows, a single man emerged. He wore a black tuxedo and black slacks. His expression was stoic, almost inhumanly expressionless. His hair formed a widow’s peak on his forehead around empty eyes and a small, thin layer of black hair covered his head. He stood completely erect, like his spine was a metal rod, and he did not swing his arms as he walked, instead keeping them down at his sides. After he emerged into the light and approached the first cage, examining the creature, a second man, who looked identical to the first one, all the way down to the empty eyes and rod-like posture, followed and sat down at a c

First TumbleRaph opened his eyes, trying to identify what had woken him up. “Wha’ the…” he groggily mumbled. Then he heard it again, a small whimper coming from Mikey’s room. Groaning, he turned over, hoping that the sound would stop. Against his wishes, though, the sound continued. “Can’t get a decent night sleep with that kid here,” Raph growled as he swung out of his hammock and stumbled toward his door to see what was wrong.First Tumble2 years ago in General Fiction More Like This
As he sluggishly moved across the room, the noise level changed. Instead of a quiet whimper, there was sudden shrill cry. Goaded into action by the notes of pain he heard, Raph ran towards Mikey’s door. He beat Leo there by only a few seconds, and hurried inside. As soon as he walked in, he saw what had happened.
Mikey had fallen out of bed. His face scrunched up in pain as blood flowed from his lip, he howled his heart out. Raph was at his side in a flash, picking him up to comfort him. “Shh… you’re
