I'm not going to lie, I worked really hard on this, but I'll be fine if I don't win. Be sure to tell me which one is your favorite, though!
Anyway, I wanted to do several different outfits, so I ended up making one for every season, plus a more formal dress, while trying to keep the original EQG style. I'm going to do reviews on each of them; you do not have to read them if you don't want to, but it just adds a little insight into the inspiration and design of each outfit.
I'm afraid I'm going to go all Rarity-style on you during the reviews. I wouldn't exactly call this a split personality, but sometimes I feel like there's a Rarity personality inside me that jumps out at my best moments of artistic inspiration, making me want to shout things like "IDEAAA!" and use a big vocabulary.
Ready? Here we go...
Before we begin, I feel that I must say that Dusk is a simply amazing model. Her complexion is beautiful, and her hair is so rich!~
I had lots
of fun designing these.
To me, the clothing has to reflect the personality and style of the wearer. I didn't know what kind of personality Dusk had, but it looked to me like she was fabulous yet modest and a bit shy, so that was what I aimed for. Because of this, I only did skirts - pants didn't really seem to work on her. I think it went well.
I hope you enjoy the reviews!
From left to right:
1. Spring Breezes
This outfit is actually the fourth I designed, but I felt it should go first because I was lining them up in the order of the seasons, more or less (spring > summer > autumn > winter), so it's the first to get a review. Anyway, I automatically knew what kind of neckline the shirt should have, so I made it into a sort of kimono-style front with a flowy bottom and sleeves. The skirt is rather plain, but I did manage to get a little star/flower design in, and the muted raspberry color matched rather well with Dusk's hair. The orange ribbon around her waist rather completed the plainness of the shirt, and the flower in her hair adds a finishing touch. This is the perfect outfit to wear for playing in a meadow on a cool spring day.
2. Summer Playtime
The third piece to be designed, this outfit is rather plain, but perfect for playing outside. I knew immediately that the tank top would be perfect, so that was the first to go on there. The bottom started out as a pair of jean shorts, but, after one of my sisters' suggestion, I decided to change it into a skirt. The plainness needed some relieving, so after pockets and a star necklace, the outfit itself was complete. After a few minutes of consideration, I went back and added the Band-Aid on her left knee, just to add a cute summertime touch.
3. Autumn Chill
This outfit was actually the first one I did. I'd sat at my computer, trying to decide what kind of a girl Dusk was. I knew at first that I wanted something in her hair, so that's where the silver hair clips came from. The scarf came next; I was sure she would look nice with something soft. Now, I'm not too crazy about low necklines, but I do like an off-the-shoulder touch every now and then, so without trying to make it very low, I managed to make it work. As I said, pants wouldn't look right, so I tried a simple skirt that wasn't very short, but not too long either. After browsing through the EQG designs from the movie, I decided that Rarity's skirt had the nicest style to it, a slight ruffle but not too fancy, and tried that on her instead, but made it longer. The boots may have been the hardest part, or at least the color, but after playing around with several color schemes, I decided the simple navy blue was best. After that, I added the grey stripes to the boots and shirt, and the outfit was finished.
4. Winter Wonder
This outfit may be my favorite of the five, tied with Autumn Chill. The shirt was easy; I knew a turtleneck would be perfect, and I tried to bell out the sleeves after the elbow. I tried the muted raspberry again for the tights and think it went well, and also designed a warmer type of skirt with my favorite kind of ruffles. The belt encircling Dusk's slim waist completed the shirt, but there was something missing. My sister suggested earmuffs, and I knew it was perfect. After adding that in, it was complete.
5. Satin Secrets
This outfit is named after the first ponysona I ever had, right before Amethyst Dew, who turned into my current, Frozen Gem. It's very simple, a slim, flowy, blue satin gown with leather high - heeled boots and pale grey-blue gloves. The jewelry is silver, which I think accents Dusk's complexion quite well, though I suppose gold may have worked, too. After styling the hair in an elegant bun, it was done.
I so desperately wanted to do one more, with Dusk's hair in a braid, but I changed my mind, thinking five was enough. I hope you like them!
