PS4 vs Xbox One who wins?If you like videogames like me, chances are you have been aware of what's happening in E3. Everyone's talking about it now. Since a few weeks ago with the whole TV TV TV TV TV TV TV SPORTS SPORTS SPORTS SPORTS Xbox conference I have been pretty unhappy with things that are going on with Microsoft. You can't play used games, you need to log in to your internet at least once a day to play games, and it feels like you are actually RENTING a game rather than owning it if you know what I mean. OK then at E3 today they announce the price for the Xbox One.. wait for it. $499 USD. Mmmmk alright, I kinda expected it to be expensive.. but here's the part that surprised EVERYBODY, it costs 429 Pounds and 499 Euros. Wait a minute what? So I quickly pulled out my little pink calculator and found out that for the UK thats equivalent of $666 USD (Interesting its also the number for Satan) and 662 USD for the Europeans. Yo WHAT THE HELL? Why do the people at europe h

Premium Content and how I feel about making moneyHalloPremium Content and how I feel about making money3 years ago in Personal More Like This
There's a new feature called premium content that allows users to make file downloads available for a charge. This seems to be something with a vast range of different possibilities that range from quite nice to to quite lame. Of course we are all always against commercialization and sell-outs and everything and don't want things to change but there are some interesting options here.
Obviously everyone is going to know whether or not this is something he or she could use and how much sense it's going to make for what you do specifically but there's two points I want to adress.
I always thought it was lame when people sell stuff like brushes or psd files. This is probably just my personal opinion and many will certainly disagree for valid reasons, but I think, if you make some brushes, and you ask money for something as tiny as that, you are lame. Sorry. Actually, the point here is not that it will kill someone to pay like one buck for something tiny, it's just that it change

The latest graphic tablets (now affordable for most anyone,) matched with the latest high-definition screens (displaying billions of colors,) connected to the latest computers (whose size are measured in inches and not feet,) all to render work near instantaneously. It's hard to imagine that with what we have today, publishers and artists were using these same types of devices as much as 40 years ago to set type, scan images, or even draw pictures.
So if you were an artist in the late 1970's, what would it have been like?
Well, click here (or above) to watch a video to get a bit of an idea.
If that's anything to go by, straight-up drawing was still a little out of reach. But you could scan drawings, save them, view them on a screen, scale them,

Or even just type in Ry-Spirit in google to see what images comes up, usually the most popular ones pop up first anyway. please write your address down properly, make sure the address is structured properly so I don't get the states and street names and stuff mixed up, cos I am not from your country and don't know how your country's Adress structure works... so yeah just beware of things like that. Critical Assessment and Aftermath of Art SchoolCritical Assessment and Aftermath of Art School2 years ago in Personal More Like This
This is an updated account on how things are going years after having left art school, the effects it's had on me, and my personal thoughts on attending. My views here aren't wholly different than the few rants I've had on the subject in the past, but it's one I believe I have to continue talking about to assist others in making the right decisions for themselves and their future path. (I should also mention that this is the viewpoint of an american in America.)
It's become increasingly clear to me over the last year that out of my 25 years on this Earth, there's only one decision I ever truly regret: and that was going to art school. Now, there's a good chance that I may not be saying this had I attended a different school, but there's no way to ever know, so what I'm really saying is "I regret going to the school I chose, not school in general." I feel as though I was let down by my school. I held up my end of the bargain (some $80~$90

Questioned by the Hong Kong PoliceSo where was I? Oh yes I was gonna talk about my experiences with the Hong Kong police, so here goes. OK this is the problem, whenever I visit Hong Kong I always have the fear of being questioned by the police, well not exactly fear because I've got nothing to hide, but whenever I am alone walking on the street and a policeman on patrol sees me, they would ALWAYS 100% stop and ask for my ID. For those ain't familiar with how things work in Hong Kong is that if they see a teenager (Especially male) on the street not in their school uniform during school time or with dyed hair or pretty much just 'gangster' or suspicious looking, they have the right to stop you in the middle of nowhere and question you. Now I match every bit of suspicion possible, what they are trying to check is if there's any sort of crime around the area so they can narrow down the suspects, or to check whether you are legal to be in Hong Kong, or whether you've got drugs on you. Anyway when I was in Hong Kong a monthQuestioned by the Hong Kong Police3 years ago in Personal More Like This

1.GOTA BE A FAN BEFORE DOING FAN ART FOR SOMETHING
Yup, I have not seen One Piece or Bleach so I will not do fan art for them, Im sure they are great anime as people has told me, but I just haven't gotten around to watch it thats all. So yes for me, I gota be a fan before doing fan art for something. Otherwise it kinda takes away wat the true meaning of what fan art is right? But yes I do know some people who draws fan art of whats popular rather than what they like, I remember one time I was walking in the artist alley and saw an artist who did an artwork of a fandom that I like, so I spoke to them about the series and realised the person has not played the game or know anything about it, but just drew it because
Otakuthon failSo I had planned to apply to Otakuthon this year as I did last year; I subscribed to its newsletter since apparently it's the only way to keep track of its stuff and it's half french first then half english, which is probably why this year I missed the AA sign up date by a landslide apparently.... I checked back after the latest newsletter came without notice about AA, only to find that it's been sold out, and upon checking the forums apparently it happened in march LOL IDEK SO I HAVE AN ISSUE HERE...Otakuthon fail3 years ago in Personal More Like This
I'm thinking about going for dealer's room, but I'd rather not because I feel like people go there expecting cheap mass produced goods for official stuff and then they see my expensive obsolete stuff LOL;;;;;; I feel reluctant asking this as well but if there's anyone with a premium artist space that they're willing to share, I am willing to pay for the table for it ;; The reason I don't like to ask like this whenever I fail---and I've failed many times--is because I take up a LOT of spac
If I lost an armMy good people of Deviantart. It is me again Chicken breasts mixed with vegetable poured with a delicious yet spicy Indian curry on Ryce, here with another thought provoking yet useless journal entry. What happened was earlier this week my tablet pen's been going crazy, because the nib on the tip of my tablet pen has worn off. I do use the tablet a lot.... Like every single day, so over time naturally you would need to replace the nib. But being me, I just always forget to buy it.. Every time the pen becomes non responsive I would smack it like a disobedient bitch until it works again. Well guess what.. it reached a point where I need to smack it once every minute. You wouldn't believe the pain I went through with the Valentine's day picture, what could've been a 3 hours artwork ended by being 6 hours. At the end the pen was finally dead, I could hardly see the nib anymore. By the way a nib is like a long plastic that acts as the tip of your pen ok...? Symbol(s) for the non Premium DeviantsHello my Ryceballs. So eversince DA's recent symbol changes, I have been hearing a lot of complaints. Mostly about how regular non premium members don't even get a symbol. It makes them feel like they are not important. Its ok I hear ya I hear ya. And you know me, I am all about the people. Ry-Spirit cares. So I thought about this a lot and try to think of an appropriate symbol that best suits our non premium friends, at the end I came up with a symbol... WELL I say a symbol but its more like a string of symbols. I feel like this is the only option for it to work. And I have used myself as an example of what the symbols would look like if I am in fact a regular deviant. Ok please look below.Symbol(s) for the non Premium Deviants1 year ago in Personal More Like This

Tales of the N64Hello Ryceballs, its been a long time since I actually drew something or written something for Deviantart, mostly because of travelling to conventions and work, if you haven't guessed it by now I actually draw for a living. BUT IM BACK FOR A BIT NOW, with more stories to entertain you delicious people! This time Im gonna talk about the classic Nintendo 64, one of my favourite consoles of all time.Tales of the N642 years ago in Personal More Like This
This is a picture of me when I was playing the N64 back in the day. So why do I wanna talk about the 64 out of all the consoles? Well mostly because I have been trashing Nintendo so much lately about their decisions in the gaming industry that I thought I should talk about something more positive about Nintendo when they were at their prime. ALSO because I have so many good memories with this console! Without further ado, THIS is how it all began.. it started with my dad coming home from work one day and showing me a newspaper article with a competition on it, it was sponsored by Toyota and i

The Image, Part 1
Not too long ago I started working on some drawings in which I needed to draw water, mountains, and trees in ink. For example, in Fairy Tales I tackled both up-close and mid-distance forest and trees. In Knotwork in the Skye mountains and water were the problem of the day.
While I'm not completely happy with the results, I thought I'd share some of the drawings by Osamu Tezuka that I referred to several times to try to work out doing nature with ink. All three of the main pictures I'm showing here are from his Buddha series. The one above is from Volume 8, the last one. Now, when I look at that I'd call it fairly realisti
Wacom Pen Nib a bit short? Might not be the nib...I've noticed recently that on heavily-used Wacom pens, especially those owned by a complete klutz such as myself, have a tendency to eventually get really short nibs. So short that it can only detect pressure when held completely perpendicular to the screen. At first you think, "Oh, wow I need to change the nib, that is seriously worn down, geez!" And when you change it out for a fresh one, it's JUST as short as before....Wacom Pen Nib a bit short? Might not be the nib...3 years ago in Personal More Like This
So what's wrong? To find out, give your pen a back-and-forth shake. Does it sound like the innards of the pen are shifting, rattling back and forth? Press on the eraser tip. Does the tip's length suddenly come back? If so, this means that the body of your pen has begun to come apart, thus making the shaft longer and loosening up the inside. (The following is a description of an Intuos4 pen. But others should be similar.)
To fix this, it's an easy matter of removing the duo-switch, (just get a fingernail underneath it and pry it, don't worry, it's strong,) then the co
My 2 cents about educationON THE SUBJECT OF SCHOOLS, I FELT COMPELLED TO CHIME IN. If you can afford an expensive school then take it if you like but if you can't then obviously don't go to an expensive school. Just like you wouldn't buy a car you couldn't afford. My 2 cents about education2 years ago in Personal More Like This
The best thing about the "good" schools are the students because when you hear a school is great everybody flocks there, including many of the most talented... but notice I said "many" and not "all" the most talented.
"Superstars" can come from city, any shape, any color, ANY AGE. We've seen it many times before.
The best way to cultivate talent is to interact with other talented or potentially talented people. It just makes us all work even harder. I had the great fortune of being in the same school and year with Pixar's James Robertson, Dani Strijleva, Ben Su and John Lee. And these are just a handful of the very talented people from my year. Just by being in the same class, this has influenced me to work harder than ever when I really didn't w

The Augen Auf playing cards will be for sale for $15 per deck, or $25 for 2 decks. I'm currently not selling these cards online so Fanime is the only place to get it.

And second of all, if I play my cards right now, I can get hired as an illustrator in a childrens magazine!
Let me tell you the oh so uninteresting story!
So the same day as I made the mentioned emo journal I also posted an emo status on Facebook, stating: "Starving artist looking for wooooork! *cries*". Then one of my buddies back from school (to whom I haven't spoken to in many years) replied with a message telling me that she wanted me to help her illustrate an article for her magazine (some swedish magazine). And so I made the first sketches for the illustrations and sent them in. She replied back saying that she and her colleagues were very impressed, and that she had showed the same sketches to an editor of a children's magazine. The editor was surprised that I wasn't working professionally in the business
HOW TO: Remove the line art from the white bgSince not many of you check my blog for updates and such i thought i should just post this here since its very useful:HOW TO: Remove the line art from the white bg6 years ago in Personal More Like This
Removing white background from lines
Every time i scan a drawing i have to set it on multiply to get rid of the white background that is paper. So i googled for a solution and i saw this website: http://www.tomrichmond.com/blog/2008/06/06/new-photoshop-line-art-trick/
You will need photoshop for this!!
The short version:
1. Scan line art as greyscale image, or covert it to such
2. Create a new blank layer and name it Inks
3. Go to the Channels palette and there is only one channel called Grey
4. At the bottom of the channels palette, click on the dashed circle icon entitled Load channel as selection
5. In Select drop down menu select Inverse
6. Go to your Inks layer
7. Press D on your keyboard to reset the swatches to full black in active color
8. Press Alt + Delete (or Option + Delete if you'
