Cigarette smoke lingered in the building, already stuffy from the summer air. A young man sat at a wooden desk, his fingers tapping furiously on the keys of a typewriter. Around him a scramble of men flipped through papers, chatted mildly about work, and exchanged the news. Sweat laced the young man's brow as he replaced the paper in his machine.
"Sam, you were supposed to get off an hour ago, what're you doin'?" A man with a cigar in his mouth and his hands in his pockets asked the man at the desk.
"Sorry Mr. Brown, just got caught up in the article is all." Sam said, looking up from his work and rubbing his eyes.
"The article will get written my boy, but it won't get done well if you're workin' this hard." The man explained as he took his cigar from his mouth and released a puff of smoke.
"Right, sorry sir." Sam said before standing out of his chair and running his fingers through his hair.
The Boss of the newspaper nodded before walking away from the young man, "Wait, Mr

Artemis flinched at she heard Kaldur's voice through the mental connection. She loaded another arrow as she backed herself against a wall. "How long do you think we can keep them off?" she shouted across the room, letting the arrow fly.
"About another ten minutes I would guess," she heard Tula respond as a wave of water slammed against The Light soldiers surrounding her. She notched a web arrow and sent it flying across the room. She saw Tula dart to the side as the arrow exploded, wrapping the remaining soldiers in the room in a sticky trap. Artemis ran to Tula's side and the two went against each other's backs.
"Seen the nearest entrance?" Tula asked, her magic swirling around her hands.
"Only place soldiers aren't flooding in is the door to the roof," Artemis answered, bow drawn. No soldiers were marching through the other entrances yet, but that didn't mean more wouldn't burst through at any moment.

When the night is long and her bed is bare, she will often search for the past.
She keeps the totems hidden in the closet, concealed by a sheath of drawers and shielded with lock and key. There is no particular reason for her to veil them, as they are merely memories. But it is a ritual of sorts for her, and it helps her keep them close. It helps her remember.
Turning the small copper key as her wrist twists, the drawer pops open, revealing flashes of color and old, nearly forgotten images.
She picks up one such artifact, turning it over in her hands, and holds it in front of her, studying it with the eye of a detective. Here we have a young boy, certainly no more than 9 years old. His thick, black hair is tousled upon his head, and his eyes gleam a bright turquoise blue of youth and enthusiasm. She smiles. This is how she will always remember him, when they first locked eyes. All optimism and childlike wonder at the world. Even after all that had happened to him.
Young Justice - Part 6: BatgirlFor a moment, there was absolute quiet. I don't think anybody really knew what to say as Nightwing hastily returned the small shard of kryptonite to a pouch on his belt. He knelt by Conner's side and felt for his pulse with surprisingly gentle fingers. Without a word, he draped Conner's arm over his shoulder and helped him to his feet.Young Justice - Part 6: Batgirl3 years ago in Introductions & Chapters More Like This
Conner was already coming around, shaking his head as if to clear it. He was still weak from that brief exposure to the kryptonite, so his legs shook and he would have fallen again if Nightwing hadn't been there to hold him up.
"She'll come around again soon," Nightwing spoke then, breaking the silence. It was hard not to jump at the sudden noise. Everybody had gone so still. "Get her back to sick bay, and use restraints this time. Soft cuffs, two milligrams Ativan, five of Haldol,"
For half a heartbeat, nobody moved. Then a small chunk of concrete clattered to the floor, and our temporary paralysis was broken. I moved first, grabbing a spare blanket fro

Batman ghosted into the room, effectively scaring the bejezus out of Barry. The big bat put a hand on his colleague’s shoulder. “Turn it on, Barry.”
The blonde shook his head, “I can’t. It just doesn’t feel right.”
“How so?” Batman pondered.
“We’ve had death scares before. Artemis was just undercover. I was just stuck in the Speed Force. Clark was just in another dimension. How do we know he isn’t dead?” Barry was about ready to pull his hair out.
“Barry, we saw him disappear before our eyes. He’s gone,” Batman tried
Wally and Artemis :: The First TimeThe door creaked open and with another giant sob and the sound of a long breath being exhaled, she made her way through her apartment with slow, shaky steps. Almost as soon as her bed was in sight, the blonde woman launched herself at it and collapsed on top of it, her shoulders shuddering as she gripped the velvety soft, violet blanket that she was sprawled out upon. Even its warm caress wasn't enough to ease her pain. Heck, nothing would be. More tears streamed down her face, running over the same place they had been going over for the last hour. A small whine escaped from her parted lips, the sound smooth and uninterrupted until she ran out of breath. A sharp intake and she was at it again, sobbing once more. She gathered the blanket beneath her in a small bundle where her head was and readjusted her position so that her face was now hidden in the depths of the lovely fabric.Wally and Artemis :: The First Time3 years ago in Romance More Like This

"Hey, Gordon. Heard you and Grayson hooked up. Looks like you're going for the cash, huh?"
Barbara suppressed a groan as she slammed her locker shut. Although she was tempted to give them a comment that would send them home crying, she used the infamous Batclan Calming Methods to face her tormentors. She turned around and awaited their insults for the day.
The three were the typical high school girl posse. The Queen Bee (Jane Lee), the Wannabe (Lindsay Shaw), and the Tag-along (Gina Lumiere).
These girls had been bothering her since she started going to the Gotham prep schools. And she had been since the second grade. Being a scholarship kid was like signing a death warrant for your social life at these schools no matter how old you were.
"Come on, Lindsay. Who can blame her? I mean, her dad has to live off a Police salary," Jane sneered, flipping her long black hair.
Babs rolled her eyes. "Shove off, Lee."
The girls giggled sickeningly.

Kid Flash let out a loud sigh of aggravation. "Can we just skip the talking and cut to the chase? Literally?"
"Kid-" His uncle interrupted, an alarmed expression on his face, but the speedster had already darted forward in a reckless charge.
The green woman easily side-stepped the young man, and lifted her hand. Gnarled roots burst from under the cement, and wrapped themselves around KF.
"Dear, that was too easy." Poison Ivy sighed. "I need more of a challenge than that."
Wally scowled. "That's not my only trick, you know!" He called out before vibrating as fast as he could.
The plants didn't make a sound, but Poison Ivy let out an anguished cry as the burning the plant would have felt was transmitted to her.
Flash took this as his cue and raced forward himself, dodging the writhing plants and grabbed the woman's wrist.

Barbara couldn't believe what she was seeing. Suddenly, she wasn't Batgirl anymore. It was like the costume had just faded along with her body and left her thoughts and emotions free for the entire world to see. It was her with him.
She just couldn't believe it.
Nightwing and Starfire were standing side by side near the entrance of the Batcave, holding hands. It wasn't just that though, a ring was glinting on the alien's finger.
And still, it wasn't just that. Sitting on Nightwing's other arm was a tiny, little, young girl. She had his smile and hair and her-mother's eyes.
Barbara's mouth fell into a scowl and she glared before crossing her gold and black clothed arms over the gold bat on her chest. They were having words later.
Yes, later. Because the rest of the Bat-Clan was flocking to the little family.

In my dreams, I fly again.
I close my eyes and, once more, I've got that line tight in my grip. My fingers are gloved, my face is masked. I can breathe again. I can breathe the air of the night, can breathe in every sound and every sight as the city does its dance of darkness. I can feel the sirens blaring in the distance, their pulsating lights creating a vibration against my skin.
I'm free again.
I can race forward, running on my own two feet, my legs long and lean, my heart pounding against my chest, shooting me with adrenaline like a drug. Fresh, alive, healthy. Not a single thought of doubt crosses my mind as I take that leap, as I dive headlong off another rooftop. I cast my line and it reels me back in and I fly like a spider, like a bird through the open air. I laugh. I cry. I feel something and that's what matters.
And then I'm falling, tumbling, and I remember reality.
My eyes flash open as I wake with a start. I stare ahead of me for a moment, recovering

Rain poured down, pounding against the earth in a barrage of needle sharp attacks, that, despite the harmless look, would likely be acidic and painful should it ever touch the flesh. It was dark, shrouded in mist and a thick feeling of uneasiness, like every day in the Shadow Isle. The trees glowed a faint blue, like electricity that was dulled, flowing through the branches and providing some sort of light. In the distance, the soft howling and wailing of souls who were being taken in by death echoed through the trees. It was a sound that the ears grew accustomed to after so long. Living here, it became a comforting sound, as if a reminder that the world was in tact. It was there, in that place of darkness and hollow cries of despair, shrouded in thick fog, that the Queen of Spiders called home.
Elise breathed in deeply, the scent, which could not be described by words captured in the English language, was like a glowing blue aura, that flowed through her body and gave her life. It was

The blond girl sighed from her place on the couch while cleaning off her bow. Her jean jacket riding up when she stretched her arms showing the stomach that her cammie didn't cover. "Shouldn't you be annoying someone else?"
The speedster shook his head as he plopped onto the couch with an arm over Artemis's shoulder. "Miss M threw me out of the kitchen. Said she was making me a surprise with Conner." Artemis shook her head at his cluelessness while choosing a rather sharp arrow form the quiver next to her. "I hope its brownies. With chocolate chips. A lot of chocolate chips. Usually, at this time of night, many of the drunken yordles have started to start fights, going up against other drinkers almost twice their size. Houses loom above me from all sides, I trip over bins and stray pieces of rubbish. Once I was so proud of being noxian. Now I curse it. All of those normally people developing amazing powers and then joining the league... I used to dream about joining the ranks alongside those such as Katarina. But that was years ago. You know what today is,
For those who aren't so lucky,
For those who don't have friends like we do.
So people will not notice,
So they can not see.
They blind themselves,
So they do not know about what you have been through.
Hide those scars,
I will bandage your wounds.
My dear friend,
One day they will notice you.
Alone you hide in the dark,
In your 'closet'
Let me open it for you.
Let me hold your hand,
And bring you to the light,
For all to see.
They will see you,
They will hear you,
On this day,
You'll raise your flag.
But we must be silent,
For you do remember what today is,
Today is the Day of Silence.

This is a conversation in poem that started with the gift of a llama.
Thanks for the llama.

This is a haiku.
To say you're welcome
Is but a courtesy,
To llama it forward
Are you suggesting
I give you a llama?
This gift I am accepting
Should come without drama.
I need no return
For alpaca or llama.
And I do not ask
With anger or drama.
To give to the giver
Is a gift with two sides,
To give upon strangers
Is an unexpected surprise.
The more facets a gift
The more smiles one sees,
So spread the llama love
To unexpected giftees.
This llamatic gift
Has inspired poetry,
The sending is swift
In terms of delivery.
It's brown and pixelated,
It comes from the soul,
It's very appreciated,
And this poetry is my goal.

The morning sun came shining through the window, warm and sweet on my skin. The bed cover was loose around my body and my eyes fluttered open.
My mind reminded me of last night, when Zuko came sneaking in to comfort me after the night's event.
Smiling softly, I rolled over to find an empty space; something I never wanted.
A piece of paper lay in Zuko's place and a small fire lily lay on top of it.
Picking it up, I read the words slowly:
I'm sorry I couldn't stay but I just wanted to let you know how much you mean to me. I have never believed I would fall for someone like you, someone so different from me. But I do, I love you with everything I have. I made you a bracelet, its on the small table. Just a little reminder of me. Don't be afraid of today. I will never be far behind you.
I love you.
