In my dreams, I fly again.
I close my eyes and, once more, I've got that line tight in my grip. My fingers are gloved, my face is masked. I can breathe again. I can breathe the air of the night, can breathe in every sound and every sight as the city does its dance of darkness. I can feel the sirens blaring in the distance, their pulsating lights creating a vibration against my skin.
I'm free again.
I can race forward, running on my own two feet, my legs long and lean, my heart pounding against my chest, shooting me with adrenaline like a drug. Fresh, alive, healthy. Not a single thought of doubt crosses my mind as I take that leap, as I dive headlong off another rooftop. I cast my line and it reels me back in and I fly like a spider, like a bird through the open air. I laugh. I cry. I feel something and that's what matters.
And then I'm falling, tumbling, and I remember reality.
My eyes flash open as I wake with a start. I stare ahead of me for a moment, recovering

Ill name it after you.
Maybe Ill tell it all the things,
I used to tell you too.
Ill speak to it in poems,
So even when youre gone,
I can sing lullabies to a butterfly,
And maybe itll help me move on.
So on second thought,
Maybe Ill name it after me.
Im already quite accustomed,
To talking to myself you see.
Ill talk to it in riddles,
So when my brains all rotten,
It can remind me of old memories,
Id thought I had forgotten.
Or I could name it after a stranger,
A person I havent met yet.
There wont be a thing to tell it.
But on this butterfly Ill make a bet.
Though it sounds little more than a promise.
Ill swear by this butterfly,
Itll be long dead and gone,
Before I forget the story of you and I.

Not unless I arrange the blankets
Somehow I manage to mimic
The shape of her body
But I can't recreate
Or the way her chest
Moved softly against my back
With every measured
Most nights, I wake up
And she's not here
Maybe she got up
To get a drink of water
And I don't even know
How long she's been gone
But somehow I know
That she's never
Going to come back to bed
And if I would just reach over
And touch her side of the bed
I would know it was cold
But I'm afraid
I don't want to know she's gone
I don't want to know I can't have her back
And I'll fall asleep again
But most mornings,
I'll wake up thinking
She's still here
And I'll lie there
For just a moment
Wondering where she's gone
And then I begin to wonder
How long I've been alone

When the night is long and her bed is bare, she will often search for the past.
She keeps the totems hidden in the closet, concealed by a sheath of drawers and shielded with lock and key. There is no particular reason for her to veil them, as they are merely memories. But it is a ritual of sorts for her, and it helps her keep them close. It helps her remember.
Turning the small copper key as her wrist twists, the drawer pops open, revealing flashes of color and old, nearly forgotten images.
She picks up one such artifact, turning it over in her hands, and holds it in front of her, studying it with the eye of a detective. Here we have a young boy, certainly no more than 9 years old. His thick, black hair is tousled upon his head, and his eyes gleam a bright turquoise blue of youth and enthusiasm. She smiles. This is how she will always remember him, when they first locked eyes. All optimism and childlike wonder at the world. Even after all that had happened to him.

Barbara couldn't believe what she was seeing. Suddenly, she wasn't Batgirl anymore. It was like the costume had just faded along with her body and left her thoughts and emotions free for the entire world to see. It was her with him.
She just couldn't believe it.
Nightwing and Starfire were standing side by side near the entrance of the Batcave, holding hands. It wasn't just that though, a ring was glinting on the alien's finger.
And still, it wasn't just that. Sitting on Nightwing's other arm was a tiny, little, young girl. She had his smile and hair and her-mother's eyes.
Barbara's mouth fell into a scowl and she glared before crossing her gold and black clothed arms over the gold bat on her chest. They were having words later.
Yes, later. Because the rest of the Bat-Clan was flocking to the little family.
That alien. She was just like Huntress, thinking she could wheedle her way between the two of them. There was no way that was their daughter, it was obviou

Artemis flinched at she heard Kaldur's voice through the mental connection. She loaded another arrow as she backed herself against a wall. "How long do you think we can keep them off?" she shouted across the room, letting the arrow fly.
"About another ten minutes I would guess," she heard Tula respond as a wave of water slammed against The Light soldiers surrounding her. She notched a web arrow and sent it flying across the room. She saw Tula dart to the side as the arrow exploded, wrapping the remaining soldiers in the room in a sticky trap. Artemis ran to Tula's side and the two went against each other's backs.
"Seen the nearest entrance?" Tula asked, her magic swirling around her hands.
"Only place soldiers aren't flooding in is the door to the roof," Artemis answered, bow drawn. No soldiers were marching through the other entrances yet, but that didn't mean more wouldn't burst through at any moment.

Wally and Artemis :: The First TimeThe door creaked open and with another giant sob and the sound of a long breath being exhaled, she made her way through her apartment with slow, shaky steps. Almost as soon as her bed was in sight, the blonde woman launched herself at it and collapsed on top of it, her shoulders shuddering as she gripped the velvety soft, violet blanket that she was sprawled out upon. Even its warm caress wasn't enough to ease her pain. Heck, nothing would be. More tears streamed down her face, running over the same place they had been going over for the last hour. A small whine escaped from her parted lips, the sound smooth and uninterrupted until she ran out of breath. A sharp intake and she was at it again, sobbing once more. She gathered the blanket beneath her in a small bundle where her head was and readjusted her position so that her face was now hidden in the depths of the lovely fabric.Wally and Artemis :: The First Time4 years ago in Romance More Like This

Wide blue eyes stared up at the clear night sky, a deep, dark shade of blue almost, but not quite, black and lit up by the flickering light of thousands upon thousands of stars, all of them different sizes, colours and of different brightness and all of them equally beautiful. It was strange to think that he'd never fully appreciated these stars before now, but now he had all the time in the world to admire their overwhelming beauty.
Or at least it felt that way, but if he looked properly then he could see that they were slowly but surely getting farther and farther away, or maybe it was him who was moving away from them, he saddened at the thought, soon they'd be gone forever and he would never see them again, soon everything would be over.
He stared up, taking in every little detail and engraving it all into his memory so that he would never forgot this wondrous sight, the dimmest stars began to fade out altogether making it so that he could no longer see them

Mako sat at the desk in his and Bolin's shared room, looking over his never ending pile of paperwork. He was so lost in his work, carefully reading over and signing each form, that he didn't even hear the door open or notice anyone walk in until she was right next to him.
Mako jumped. Realizing that it was just Korra, he calmed down.
"Please don't sneak up on me like that."
"I didn't sneak up on you. I thought you heard me come in." She looked down at the paperwork on his desk. Trying to see over her very pregnant belly, she leaned forward the slightest bit. "What're you doing?"
"Work," he told her, turning back to it, "You're kinda crushing some of it."
"Oh, sorry." She took a step back. "Don't you have enough work to do actually at work?"
"Apparently not. I had no idea there'd be this much paperwork to do to become a cop." He wasn't complaining, though. He couldn't have been more grateful to have been offered such a well paying, respected job.

Almost all of the cabinets were open, and a good portion of what used to be inside them was either spilled out on the counter or broken on the floor. Something on the stove was on fire, and from the look of the oven, whatever was cooking in there had also caught fire at one point.
A voice in Mako’s head told him to just walk away, but instead he just stood there, slowly covering his face with his hand.

Last night, he and Ellis went through a couple rounds. It had been fucking amazing to say the least, and as he sipped his mug of coffee that morning, he contemplated seeing if Ellis wanted to go again. There was one thing stopping him though, just one little itty bitty, prepubescent thing.

Nick rolled his eyes, getting up from his lean on the doorframe to the living room where he watched his lover put his shoes on, sitting on the couch. Except for where they gather at my ankles
Because I'm too short
Or maybe boys are too tall.
I'm not straight like my jeans.

But I still like boys sometimes
And I kiss them sometimes, too.

So I guess I'm not happy, either.
