The Leviathan and the Death of HopeWarning: contains spoilers concerning the Leviathan DLC, Mass Effect 3 and my notions about what good writing is. Duh.The Leviathan and the Death of Hope3 years ago in Personal More Like This
There are moments when I wish I could just turn off my writer's sense at a whim and "just go with it". Ignore that a story in a game, or a movie, or a book, or a TV show is flawed in my opinion, just to enjoy the views, get an adrenaline rush from all the flashing colors and have fun. And truth be told - it usually works that way... Just not for the universes I tend to care about. If you got me invested in your franchise, I will expect you to deliver the goods. 'Tis how the cookie crumbles.
Which brings me to the Leviathan DLC. I've seen a lot of positive reviews and emotions towards it popping up all over the internet before I was even able to check it out myself. My hopes were high, and, initially, I loved it. It had a sense of exploration Mass Effect 3 was seriously lacking and the TGES Mining Base really reminded me of Noveria... It was spot on.
Goals...?I've been thinking about this for a while now. What exactly do I want to do with comics? What are some of my goals? What's the future hold for my stuff? Here are just a couple of stream of conscious thoughts:Goals...?4 years ago in Personal More Like This
I don't want to be big on YouTube, that's for sure. I've never liked getting in-front of the camera, I don't have the time or ambition to work on animations anymore, and I certainly can't crank out videos as fast as some of the big guys over there. It's a huge competition and I just don't want to have anything to do with that. I think my youtube page is marked private and you have to have specific links to view anything. I might make an odd video here or there, but they're most likely just goofy things I do for fun, not for any sort of attention or recognition.
I'm curious about how I should move forward with DA. I think a majority of my haters are outraged that I'm popular on DA and that I'm content with drawing simple cartoons when I'm obviously talented enough to do more comple

the cards are starting to trickle in! <33
edit2: yes, the cards will be printed (why the resolution size), i dont' know if they will be printed for other people besides the artist, maybe a limited edition set, or something like that, just to cover printing costs. we'll see. i'd like to be able to send decks to people who took part in it w/out them having to pay, so if that means that the cards will be sold to cover that, i hope the artists are okay with this. if not, please let me know. ;3
edit3: please, no more PM's about coming aboard this project. the slots were filled months ago, and there's already standbys. thank you very much for your interest and support in projects such as these. :]
finally (for those of you that don't know already), the official announcement of a massive multiartist card deck project here on dA, plus or minus a few. thank you everyone for showing so much interest in it. i wish i had a card for everyone that wanted to do one.

New Korra Trailer Released**Contains Legend of Korra Season 1 Spoilers**New Korra Trailer Released3 years ago in Personal More Like This
And honestly, I'm not feeling it. Doug Walker (aka The Nostalgia Critic) has been doing a series where he's been vlogging his experience watching the original Avatar series for the first time (Take a look they're actually really good go watch them! http://thatguywiththeglasses.com/videolinks/thatguywiththeglasses/specials ). He's a new fan to the series and his enthusiasm and critique of the original series has only helped to intensify my loathing and hatred of The Legend of Korra's disastrous season finally.
The more I remember how amazing and awesome the original Avatar series is, the less I am interested in picking up the pieces and following these unlikable characters through another series of exploits, especially after haphazardly killing off the main villain in such a clumsy and awkward way. Not only that, but there's no growth to the main character at all. There's no journey of her learning how to be an Air Bender the way there was
MCM updatesHey everyone. A lot has happened within the past few days, some good and some bad, so I figured I should just give a quick update.MCM updates4 years ago in Personal More Like This
First off this convention has to be one of the busiest and biggest conventions I have ever been to. I mean, I've been to the NYC comic con before and it was nothing like this! The turnout has been absolutely fantastic! Thank you everyone for coming out to see me!
I've had a few fans give me artwork and that's always a treat. One even reshape my kneaded eraser into pinky pie for me too. That was quite a lark! As you know, humon, vitaly, and stupid fox are here too and we have an anthology we've been selling. After a while of selling them I started to notice humon and vitaly were writing messages back and fourth like "bring me cake" or "the cake is for me! Not you!" and other fun stuff.
Overall I have been incredibly impressed at the intensity of this convention. I really have not experienced anything like it!
However, as awesome as this convention has been t

Avoid UbisoftA while back, just after I had completed whichever iteration of Assassin’s Creed involved the pirate guy, I said that Watchdogs was probably going to be a crap game. A number of people said I was wrong to badmouth a game without playing it, but my argument was that you could gauge the quality of an upcoming title by the studio/publisher’s previous output. With that in mind, it’s fairly obvious that Ubisoft’s preferred method is to dazzle the weaker minded with pretty, pretty graphics in order to sell as many copies as possible before someone points out that the game actually plays like a dog (which – what ho - is exactly what Watchdogs did).Avoid Ubisoft1 year ago in Personal More Like This
Ass Creed: Unity hit the headlines because of it doesn’t just play bad, it’s flat out broken.
I’ll repeat what I said in the journal with the Watchdogs prediction: look at the back catalogue of a studio before spending mo
Parody vs Pastiche and other Humorous ExamplesJust for fun I thought I'd do a rundown of the most common forms of humor, their definitions, and examples. This is not a complete list by any means, but they are a list of many forms of humor and literature discourse which often get confused of mixed up.Parody vs Pastiche and other Humorous Examples2 years ago in Personal More Like This
An imitative work created to mock, comment on or trivialize an original work, its subject, author, style, or some other target, by means of satiric or ironic imitation.
Example: The movie "Airplane" is a parody of 1970's disaster movies. Many of Weird Al's music videos are parodies of other more famous music videos.
A work of visual art, literature, or music that imitates the style or character of the work of one or more other artists. Unlike parody, pastiche celebrates, rather than mocks, the work it imitates.
Example: The movie "Super 8" is a pastiche of 1980's adventure films, specifically imitating the style of Stephen Spielberg's early career,
The Legend of Korra Season 3 (spoilers)Loved it. All the way through the whole damn season. Even with the episode leaks, the shift to web only, and whatever else Nick was throwing at them, they finally got the series back on track story-wise. I honestly didn’t think I would enjoy Korra after the first season pissed me off so much, but this 3rd season makes up for all the shortcomings and really ends on a solid note. The Legend of Korra Season 3 (spoilers)1 year ago in Personal More Like This
I’m gonna try not to spoil too much since I really do recommend watching the 3rd season in it’s entirety if you can. It really is that good. Any complaints I’ve had about the first season are pretty much null and void at this point because of how good this season was. The animation was top-notch, the characters were a lot of fun and well written, the villains were complex and unique and sufficiently malicious, and the stakes were raised quite high during these last few episodes.
Honestly, that last scene of Korra in the wheelchair, recovering from her fight with Zaheer and shedding a sing
'Why Are We Even Talking About This?'I get that phrase a lot, that and "over react much?" whenever I bring up ANY issue, be it from a video game, politics, or whatever. There seems to be a lot of people who just don't wanna talk about anything at all, and would much rather these discussions just not exist so they can get on with their lives.'Why Are We Even Talking About This?'2 years ago in Personal More Like This
You'll be unsurprised to learn that I don't agree with that wisdom. In my books, if you don't do anything, nothing is going to happen. If there's an injustice in the world somewhere and you stay silent, that injustice isn't going to fix itself. It will just keep happening. That, my friends, is complacency.
Then of course there are those people who don't believe that the world will ever change, therefor there's no reason to try, and actively try to stop anyone who dares to stand up for something. I can't begin to describe how annoying that mindset is to me. It's almost sadistic in it's very nature, by actively trying to stop people from making the world a better place by being dismissi

In recognition of Pin-Up Week, here are several retro hairstyles along with a How To for each. So if you've ever wanted to achieve the perfect pomp, rockin' rolls, or the classic beehive, take note!
First I will write about the assorted instruments & hair utensils you may need to attain all three looks. Depending on the look you want, you'll need: bobby pins [LOTS of them!], hair rollers, hairspray, rat tail comb, pomade, curling iron, soft-bristled brush, and hair accessories [clip-in flowers, bandana, etc].
Hair rolls are what most people think of when they think of the vintage 1940s hair styles. If your hair is at least shoulder length, you can achieve rolls! Give it a try - it takes some time to dry your

Guys are fascinated by them.
Through single-digit ages, they find the very concept of them hilarious, and when puberty kicks in the mere thought of lady-lumps generally causes some movement in the trouser department. These weak-willed creatures will follow them anywhere and they will do almost anything if it means simply being permitted to gaze upon them for a few moments more.
The entertainment industries, from the big movie makers to the lowly art whores (like me) know this, and have played upon it for years in order to separate males from their money. As a result, mass media is awash with the female form in all manner of provocative poses and dress.
Many women are fed up with this, but is the whole thing “sexist”?
Well, it’s impossible and indeed wrong to say a whole industry is one thing or another. Ultimately it’s all one, big, dumb organism that simply moves with the cultural winds. It perpetuates what sustains it. It’s only when you break it

Preventing Injuries for Artists (and people who work with computers)
Hello there my fellow deviants, time for a new update. It’s a long entry, so go grab a snack and sit tight with a good posture, because there's a lot to learn here - even some anatomy.
I just read about Loish’s injury on her blog, and it’s truly saddening to see a fellow artist struggling with a physical limitation that affects their workflow.
Loish is absolutely right, the body has its limits and we ought to be careful before it’s too late.
Tennis elbow, carpal tunnel syndrome, aren’t stranger terms to me, many artists and people who work with computers for many hours, tend to deal with the same conditions, some let it advance to the stage where the only treatment is surgery, which can potentially reduce mobility and destroy an illustrator’s career.

I think he's not good or bad he's just Deadpool and that is why he's not only my favertit antihero he's my most faverite comic book character period.

I'll be honest. I wasn't expecting the backlash to be so violent. But I guess I should expect this sort of thing whenever it comes to video games. At any rate, a lot of stuff is being thrown around haphazardly and I wanted to address some of the main complaints/defenses about my criticism of Quiet's design.
"She's got camo skin! She's dressed this way for a reason!"
You know, you can come up with any number of reasons for a character to be scantly clad. But at the end of the day it's still a scantly clad conventionally attractive female character. Not to put to fine a point on it but having Mystique walk around naked because her skin changes color doesn't stop her from being a source of obvious pandering T&A. So I'm sorry, but that whole "you'll be ashamed for slut-shaming her" excuse doesn't hold water with me, especially after Kojima outright said that her design was to sell
