Children of the NightSo, by now I'm sure most of you have seen this already, but it would be remiss of me to not link what may be the single greatest Luna fanwork released.Children of the Night2 years ago in Personal More Like This
It was fun to watch the progress this video made to its final release, and the product clearly reflects the time and effort put into it. It is utterly gorgeous.
Enjoy, our Children of the Night

P.S. I felt it appropriate, so I changed "Ponies of the Republic" to "Children of the Night." The folder is still for Luna or Republic related ponies, it just has a better name.
Pony Price ListGeneral Commission Info Hat Pricing FAQPony Price List3 years ago in Personal More Like This
All plushes are minky with applique eyes and cutie marks, unless otherwise agreed upon.
"Starting prices" are listed for all types of plushes. "Starting prices" are defined as the price for the most basic pony of that kind. I start from my base pony price and add charges according to how difficult the character is to make. Design elements that add complexity such as difficult or multicolored manes, body markings, and modifications to the basic pattern will add cost. For a full and amus

I finally hit 3000 watchers! Thank you all so much. So then, I guess it's time to give back a little. Therefore, I will be holding the contest that I alluded to so long ago, in order to give away some ponies! Without further ado, here are the rules:
The deadline for submissions is 9pm PST Saturday September 14th, 2013. Late submissions will NOT be accepted. Please submit by COMMENTING on this journal with a link to your submission. So you want to digitizeIn this tutorial I'm going to attempt to explain how to autodigitize images into embroidery files. There are many different software programs out there. Here is a link to some free software called Stitch Era: http://www.imprimeo.net/howget.htmSo you want to digitize3 years ago in Personal More Like This
In this tutorial I'll be showing you how to digitize using PE Design Lite!
This software is best used in conjunction with an image editing program like Adobe Photoshop. I've found that PE Design Lite is quite finicky with colors so you need a high quality vector image of the design you want to digitize.
So the first thing you need to do is find or create your design. Once you have a good quality image open your software.
Note: PE Design Lite has only the most basic of functions. For more embroidery options you'll need to buy/download more advanced digitizing programs.
Step 1: Open software
Step 2: Import your image
This is the file I want to digitize:
Step 3: Click the autodigitize button and the color grid will pop up.

Year One of Pony Sculpting!Today is August 8th, 2012... Last year on August 9th, I cut the hair off my first Rainbow Dash and started messing about with some clay. I had never sculpted anything of merit before this, and to be perfectly honest, my first attempts at sculpting a mane and tail really weren't anything to be too terribly excited about... on August 10th I posted my first pictures:Year One of Pony Sculpting!3 years ago in Personal More Like This
I was far from satisfied with my results, but I learned a lot; I learned that one should not depend on derivative works as reference material, and that sculpey can remove cutie-marks if left on them for too long. I learned that making something show accurate wasn't going to be as easy as slapping some clay on a pony and baking it...
My drive to start this was based in Hasbro's sculpted hair gift set that ominously excluded Rainbow Dash, Rarity and Fluttershy. The idea of making resin castings of of sculpts came from the many different bac

Also, keep checking back, as more characters and their colors will be added soon!)
MLP: Minky Color Guide:
Which minky color works best for ______ (insert MLP character here)?
This journal is an attempt to answer that question. There are more than 50 shades of minky out there, and as a plushie maker, I realize that it can be difficult to know which color will work best for the particular pony you're working on. This is made even more frustrating by the fact that many of the images of the minky do not show the true color!
I recently ordered a ton of swatches from fabric.com, and I'm continuing to collect swatches from various websites, in an attempt to get most of the minky colors. Because I have the actual fabric with me, I can compare it to the characters' colors to see which fits best, to ensure that you can make a plushie that is as show-accurate as possib

I don't use a stabiliser on top of the fabric as it obscures my view. It requires more work but the result is worth it for me.
First, cut out your base piece and your piece to be appliqued on top (in this case a blue stripe onto a yellow tail piece).
Using spray adhesive (or iron on, whatever floats your boat) spray the back of the top piece (blue here) and stick it into your base (yellow) where you want it to go. Use the same adhesive to attach cutaway stabiliser onto the back of he base piece where the stitching will go through (I use lots of little scrap pieces from embroidery but as long as it is covered that is fine).
Straight stitch around all the edges of the top piece. Get as close to the edge as you can

Tail is done! :iconraritylaplz: So, there’s been a few changes. I decided to go with AAAs, but I don’t think that’ll be a problem. The EL-wires, which suck the most power, ran for a good 3 hours in my first test using AAs, but they still had a very good charge. Also there’s slightly less EL-wire to be powered (though that’s probably a negligible difference). The LEDs alone will last a lot longer.
And in case anyone was wondering about the battery location... , the only logical and easily concealable location, after a lot of thought, was the rump. :iconshockedlunaplz::iconlunagaspplz::iconlunakiddingmeplz: Why? Well, in her mane it would be top heavy and induce balancing issues; in the tail it would be too heavy to suspend;

You want to make plushies? Tips and resources listEdit: added a part about fabric selection before 'where do I start'!You want to make plushies? Tips and resources list2 years ago in Personal More Like This
Ever since I posted Wolf Link and Midna I've been getting an influx of messages asking me to teach, reveal my secrets, take people under my wing, and so on. The sad thing is I can't spend all that much time one on one with everybody asking me to teach them. So I've decided to put together this massive block of text, relating some of my personal experience in plush making and listing off all my resources at the bottom. This will cover the very basics of plush and pattern making so if you are completely new to plush making this is for you, if you're not and you're just looking for resources skip to the bottom. I hope this will be helpful to someone!
First off, the reality. The big secret. The key to becoming a good plush artist is...
I can already feel the glares and exasperation but hear me out first.
One thing I've noticed with a lot of the messages I got were that a lot of people were scared of screwing up.
So you want to make a ponyI get asked alot of questions on how to make pony plushes. I really don't think I'm the best person to ask since I'm a total noob, but I will try to help! First off, you need a pattern. I don't sell or give out my pattern, but there are plenty of nice ones online! All it takes is a bit of searching but I'm going to make that part easy for you.So you want to make a pony3 years ago in Personal More Like This

My thoughts on the MLP Season 3 finale...First of all, I would like to say congrats to Daniel Ingram for doing a swell job making a musical episode. I don't think I've ever seen this many songs in such a short amount of TV before, and the sheer variety of tunes was quite a treat for the ears. I also loved all the continuity callbacks, like Pinkamena, Spike's 7 hour long bubble bath, etc. The episode was definitely full of emotion, and it definitely affected me in a big way.My thoughts on the MLP Season 3 finale...2 years ago in Personal More Like This
Having said that, not all the emotion I felt was good. The heartwarmingness of seeing Twilight bring her friends back to their real destinies quickly gave way to dread when I saw her teleported to an ethereal plane with Princess Celestia who congratulates her, and I instantly started having flashbacks of the final episode of Neon Genesis Evangelion. What followed kind of left me feeling empty, and even though I knew which emotional buttons the episode was supposed to be pushing, its attempts fell flat on me, and left me instead feeling worried.
Tutorial: How to machine stitch horns onto heads! Here's another quick and simple tutorial!Tutorial: How to machine stitch horns onto heads!1 year ago in Personal More Like This
When you make your gusset pattern, leave a little hole where you want the horn to be.
Pin the horn to the gusset hole. They should be the same length.
Now match the back of the horn together and pin.
Sew from the end of the gusset to the tip of the horn.
Now you have a horn that's machine stitched to the gusset!
