LONDON 2012 + FINE ART FEATURESHello everyone!!LONDON 2012 + FINE ART FEATURES2 years ago in Personal More Like This
How are you doing there?? I am so excited!! On Saturday the 30th I am going to fly to LONDON!!! Oh yeah, I am already looking forward to it. I think I am going to be there for a month or two, I've always dreamt to do this experience and I am totally eager to get there. As on Saturday the 30th there will be also the amazing DeviantMeet in London I do really hope I will be able to join all those who are going to take part to the event, if so I am double excited and I can't wait to get to know all of you guys ^^
They say people have not much time to read, therefore I quit with the boring part (lool) and let's do some features though!! I've always done (mostly) photography features, but recently I started to appreciate also the incredible amount of fine art pieces that some world-beating artists shared on this wonderful platform. I think it's the same for a musician, don't you think? If you like to play Chopin you simply CAN'T play his music all life l

Rant about being an art student and all it takesI copy-pasted this from my blog because I though this can make sense here as well...Rant about being an art student and all it takes8 months ago in Personal More Like This
Since I made this tremendous life choice of choosing arts as career, that I've been put down and made fun by pretty much everyone.
And all the people that chose the same path that I did, told me similar stories; they heard similar comments, similar jokes, all of them had tons of people doubting and making fun of their passions and choices.
I happen to have many friends outside the art career, friends that are studying other kind of stuff that, according to them and to the society, those are acceptable careers that will develop decent jobs.
Because everyone's told that arts aren't safe.
Arts are for the stoned, lazy, and misfits. Arts are for the dumb kids that don't like math. Because everyone can draw and why should that be someone's career? Unless you're a famous artist, seen on galleries
Common Forum Topics Addressed: Art CollegeWhat is this article about?Common Forum Topics Addressed: Art College2 years ago in Deviant Events More Like This
As someone who spends an extensive amount of time in the forums I can honestly say that the same questions come up over and over again. Things about college, how to use certain programs, how to take commissions, etc. So I've decided to do an article series about these questions. There won't be a regular schedule to these, since they'll only be written when I start to see an abundance of the same questions coming up. Mostly, I just want to have something to link to so I don't have to write the same response to these questions over and over again.
Our first topic is going to be college related questions. If you have any suggestions for future topics, don't hesitate to note them to me for consideration.
Should I go to Art College?
What college you go to is definitely an important decision, and one you should think very carefully about. It is true that art can be self taught through the internet, but what

Photography Troubleshooting: Caring for your D-SLRTaking care of your camera doesn't have to be complicated or expensive. Since I spent some time cleaning mine this weekend, I thought I'd share the equipment I use and how effective it can be. Feel free to add your own tips and experiences in the comments of this article! For general camera protection at all times - the following are great tools:Photography Troubleshooting: Caring for your D-SLR1 year ago in Art Features More Like This
1) UV Filters - a lifesaver - really and truly it's not worth not having one!
2) LCD Screen Protector - great for putting on the display on your camera to protect it from scratches.
3) Lens Hood - Useful in the sunshine but also as added protection for your lens!
4) Lens caps - I don't take my own advice, but really lens caps are great, use them!
I work with a Sony D-SLR A57. It has lots of bits and pieces that require the odd bit of upkeep here and there (don't we all!) but nothing too complicat

The images must be NEW, as in, published on or after October 1, 2013.
Entries, for the most part, must be made in MMD. You can use any models, effects, backgrounds, that you please.
You MAY edit and MMD render using photo-manipulation software such as GIMP, Photoshop, Pivix, MS Paint, or other program of your choice. The important part is the base image comes from MMD.
No judges this time, just me and my opinions~ If I need a second opinion I'll ask.
I left the theme vague for a reason. That is the challenge

Art School Guide - Tips by MosiHello dear fellow deviants (and any other people that might be reading this without a dA account).Art School Guide - Tips by Mosi5 months ago in Personal More Like This
We're almost in August and then there'll be only one month before school starts again (yey, or maybe not).
I bet many of you are applying to art school, and this journal is written for you, people that dunno what to expect of something as particular and ambiguous as Art School.
I'm already going to my 3rd year, Painting/Plastic Arts degree and I'm currently studding in the Fine Arts University of Lisbon. I dunno if this Guide and experience can be applied to american Art schools, because I heard things there (academically) are different from here, but still, we're all studying and pursuing the same goals. What comes to the rest of Europe, Art Schools are pretty much alike, we are evaluated in the same way and we have alike methods of learning so yeah.
I already made speeches and had conversations with younger people about this topic, and I pretty much al

The Walking Dead comicsDo you feel cosy and comfortable sitting where you're sitting now?The Walking Dead comics2 years ago in Art Features More Like This
Let's ruin it.
Despite being a story of people who usually make it, The Walking Dead comics aren't that positively oriented. What's positive about a world full of mindless brain-eating zombies with very few living healthy humans left? (Don't answer, I know that for some of you it's a paradise). Come and take a closer look at these comics from a diffrent way than usual.
The basics. The Walking Dead is a black and white monthly comic book series, written by Robert Kirkman and brought to its visual life by Tony Moore. These two guys are the creators of the serie, however, Tony Moore was replaced from issue #7 by Charlie Adlard (which didn't stop him from making the covers through issue #24). And, of course, there's also Cliff Rathburn, who's
9 reasons to adore OIL PAINT1. FORGIVING - Oil is, even today, still one of the easiest and most forgiving mediums you can work in. Creating an oil painting is in fact relatively easy compared to other mediums such as watercolor or pastels.9 reasons to adore OIL PAINT2 years ago in Art Features More Like This
2. EASY TO CONTROL - Oil paints are easy to put onto a canvas or panel. You just put some paint on your brush and rub it on the canvas or panel. The paint will generally not run or move.
3. SMOOTH BLENDING - Oil paints are king of the ring when blending colors together and creating subtle blends. Wet-on-wet is the sure fire way to get a smooth transition in your painting.
4. COLOR STABILITY - One great property of oil paints is that they don't change color when they dry as opposed, for example, to acrylics or watercolor. Oils stay pretty-much the same for a long period of time (however, in a very long period of time, oil paintings have tendency to yellow).
5. EASY TO REMAKE - It's simple, just scrape the paint off with a paint knife and repa
