Anniversary ContesttheWrittenRevolution is now two years old! As a tribute to how far we've come and to kick-off our future decades as an active and radical center for young writers, we're hosting our BIGGEST CONTEST YET.Anniversary Contest3 years ago in Personal More Like This
At some point in the future, we plan on becoming an independent, not-for-profit online writing website, a place where members can share their written work in an artistic fashion, as well as give and receive critique to help them improve their abilities. An aspect of that organization that we are rather enamoured with is publishing compilations of our members' best pieces.
Here's where it starts: we've decided to put together an eBook of the thirty best entries to this contest.
Maybe you're not that impressed, you're thinking, "It's just an eBook, no big deal." We get that. But this is just the beginning. We have to start somewhere, right?
We have prepared five themes and ten vignettes for you to choose from. You may use any of these to
10 Simple Tips for Getting Your Art Accepted QUICKIt's troublesome for all of us when we have to ask you questions and, require you to withdraw and resubmit your deviation for one reason or another. Well, this document is designed to help prevent that so we can all have a nicer day!10 Simple Tips for Getting Your Art Accepted QUICK2 years ago in Personal More Like This
1. All Members:
- When you upload your art to dA, select the proper category. ex. When a member submits a drawing to our Digital Art folder, but we see that it's in dA's Traditional Art category, we will ALWAYS question that.
2. Digital and Traditional Artists:
- List the media/tools/programs and reference image links you used to create your art in your description. This is a practice of Pros, and it helps us to ascertain that your art is submitted to the proper folder.
- If your art is a photograph, and you did any editing besides tweaking, or BW/Sepia conversion then we will probably consider it a photo-manipulation. This includes selective de-coloration. Submit it to our Digital Art folder.

Skat of Foxes Card GameSkat of Foxes Card Game5 years ago in Personal More Like This
Before the reading, look here first: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Skat_(card_game)
skat - a popular card game in germany. yes, sKat. (speak "skaaht" ) - NO animal droppings. (which is scat). savvy? (now, if i find any other comment that is about animal droppings, i will go crying.) - please, show me some level... -.-
Recently, a card game was found in an old antiquarian bookshop...an utterly bizarre card game.
It was called "Skat of Foxes" - and it is presumed that it was printed during the victorian era in london. And. It once belonged to a very popular magican...
So, a pack of cards...a quite ordinary not really noteworthy pack of cards, you could say. Well...you couldn´t be more wrong then.
Because this game is one to play with caution. Great caution. These cards are dangerous...very dangerous...
Foxes, everywhere. You will search the heart without success - foxes in mouse leaping pose are taking its place.
Fox eyes are staring on these cards. Staring

Welcome to Feedback Week! This week is being brought to you by a team of very devious deviants over at FeedbackFrenzy.
In January of this year, the marvelous Beccalicious led a Critique Week in which we learned about many of the critique groups here on deviantART and also the essentials of giving and receiving critique for various media. In case you missed it, here are a few of the fantastic articles that were shared that week:
Do you really want critique? The basics of giving critique Finding critique on dA The community and critique
So, for our week, we wanted to take Critique Week a step further and put the skills we learned to use! We have developed some

This is a selection of beautiful pieces I found around dA to please your evening and night and have a nice sleep with dreams among the stars, nebulas and planets from another galaxy.
ENJOY, and show those awesome artists some love for their art from another planet.

Now the exact requirements for the poetry submissions were never really stated by techgnotic but because of how ambiguous his requirements are I'll give a rough idea of what could possibly be in there for people lost on what to cover.
The prologue poem should contain something that's a type of explanation of possible events that led up to the main story line written by the community. However you interpret the possible events before our official beginning really.
PE Feedback: How to Give a CritiqueHOW TO GIVE A CRITIQUEPE Feedback: How to Give a Critique2 years ago in Personal More Like This
It's a great thing that you want to critique other deviant's works and help them improve their skills through your constructive feedback. By critiquing fellow deviant's works, you are developing your critical thought and vision and thus, developing yourself as an artist. However, critiquing is not all about pointing out what others did wrong. As ChewedKandi has pointed out in 'How To: Critiquing Artwork' "a critique is giving your opinion in a constructive manner about a subject - be it a piece a music, a piece of art, the meal you've just ate and so on."
That's the main point of this article: to share a few pointers on how to give a quality critique while providing links to a compilation of useful guides that focus on this very same topic.
Introduction: Let's start!
First things first! You've come across a piece of art that caught your attention and

However, many deviants are always eager to receive constructive feedback (or even to give feedback to others!) and there are plenty of groups around deviantART that focus and specialize in giving and receiving feedback of the highest quality!

How to Write a Proper CritiqueIts my personal opinion that deviantART has a pretty good critique system, but what good is a wonderful critique system if you dont know how to write a proper critique? Most of the critiques Ive seen around here have been pretty good, but heres a guide that I came up with just in case you need a little help. =]How to Write a Proper Critique4 years ago in Art Features More Like This
Dont forget to take this article with a grain of salt.
The DosUseful informationWhat the artist has done rightWhat the artist has done wrongHow to improve
A critique should be useful.
A critique should provide useful feedback on the piece thats being critiqued. It should include what the artist has done right, what the artist has done wrong, and most importantly, how to improve.
Tell the artist what theyve done right.
Its important to let the artist know what theyre doing right not only because its useful knowing that, but because its encouraging. You never want to have your critique sound too
What's Hot (Beta): Trending Artwork on deviantARTArt on the RiseWhat's Hot (Beta): Trending Artwork on deviantART2 years ago in DeviantART Announcements More Like This
DeviantART is a bustling and active community, and with the high volume of artwork submitted on any given day, it can be easy to miss something. In fact, it's common for artwork to go viral across the Web or get a spike of traffic days, months, or even years after it was originally submitted.
Our new “What’s Hot” browse mode surfaces artwork that’s receiving a recent increase in exposure, regardless of when it was submitted.
A New Way To Surface Artwork
We often see artwork gain a lot of attention across the Web (after being shared on blogs, social sites, etc.), but by the time this recognition occurs, our search engines don't consider it when displaying recently "Popular" deviations. The new "What’s Hot" mode is built to celebrate these surges of exposure.
What's Hot vs. Popular
The content of the “What’s Hot” page uses an algorithm that reflects what artwork has recently garnered attention, regardless of when it was subm
Just deal with it...they told meHello guys, long time since I updated my deviant, from works to news and journals.Just deal with it...they told me1 year ago in Personal More Like This
Now going directly to the point of this journal in matter, I am going to try to clarify some of the reasons for the above recently mentioned and I am going to be as honest as possible. During the last 2 or 3 years I have been growing economically, and raising positions in big companies as a front end developer and web designer, and had to travel long distances to reach the office in a very uncomfortable crowded subway which left me with very little time for studying and painting. At the begging it felt great, it was good, I was ok with it, but eventually things turned up to be like anything I have ever expected. I started to feel more and more sick every month; 3 bronchitis, flu, Pharyngitis and pneumonia were some of the diseases I had all in just about 6 months.
Recently I assumed a great position in my new company and the situation went from bad to worse, as if my body was actually begging me to stop

Astrophotography- Some Of Your Questions AnsweredI have got to a point on this site that I am literally being inundated with questions about how I do some of my photos. I simply do not have time to answer them all in full individually anymore. It is seriously restricting the free time that I have to pursue this hobby and take those pictures that have become so popular (both on here and elsewhere). So for my well being and hopefully to the benefit of those who ask me so many questions, I am doing this write up.Astrophotography- Some Of Your Questions Answered2 years ago in Personal More Like This
Before I get into some questions though, I want to make a few things clear. I have spent a lot of time and money on trying to learn as much as I can to better myself with this style of photography. I love all forms of astrophotography and I really think I have found my niche. I hope to one day soon start making back a bit of that money I have spent. So I am not going to just reveal everything I have worked so hard to learn. What I am going t

All of us have heard about feedback events during our time on deviantArt. Many of us have participated in them, while others have declined to do so for various reasons. Some of these reasons include fear of receiving critique on one's own work, fear of being attacked for critiquing someone's work, fear of not knowing what to say, and feeling inadequate to critique a deviation from someone who is perhaps more skilled than we are--especially if the deviation is created using a medium to which we are unaccustomed.
We especially want to focus on this last reason.
Here is a conversation that we had recently in a dA chat room (names have been changed):
Us: We are planning a cross-medium, dA-wide critique event for Project Educate!! Will you participate?
DeviantX: Hmm. I don't know.
Us: Why not?
DeviantX: I'm a photo
