Kage watched from the shadows as Scollex snuck up on, and then killed a few more people. It was interesting to watch, even though Kage felt he wanted to do some of the killing as well. He didn’t interfere, because he didn’t want to make Scollex angry or irritated.
Scollex began to move on, and Kage followed.

The human screamed as wings emerged from Scollex’s back and into the air. Before they had a chance to run, Scollex’s arm morphed into a claw and he grabbed them. Morphing his other hand into a claw as well, he slashed the human across the face and neck and dropped them to the ground.
Scollex’s wings folded, and his claws changed back into hands as he watched the human bleed out and die on the ground. This was the fourth kill of the evening, and he was contemplating whether or not to go out and find another unsuspecting human to stalk and kill.
Kage was perched on top of the streetlamp, watching the bloody scene. After the human was dead, and he n

Kage sighed. He climbed further up the roof so that he could no longer hear his parents; he didn’t like to hear them so sad.
Kage climbed to the highest part of the roof and sat down; he felt like he needed some alone time to think. He felt afraid; he didn’t know what his parents were planning, but it didn’t sound very easy.
He closed his eyes and listened to the sounds of the night. The wind blowing through the grass and the trees, crickets here and there, things of that sort. They were calming and peaceful, something nice.
Kage opened his eyes, and thought he saw something in the woods. He grew alert and looked over in the direction where he thought he had seen it. It had been small and subtle, but there was something.
Kage silently climbed down the roof and onto the ground. He headed into the forest, looking for the thing that he had seen. He walked over to where he had seen it, and found it; a small luminous yellow light floating through the air. It was a firefly,

A few minutes after Scollex had disappeared, Kage continued laughing. But in a short amount of time, the amused feeling faded; only to be replaced by pain.
The sharp pain of the large open wound on his chest was excruciating. Kage stumbled backwards, hitting the wall of a building. He grabbed the wound, as if covering it would make it stop hurting.
He heard a door open, along with a few windows, and voices were heard; humans would arrive soon. Panicking, Kage grabbed the wall that he had fallen onto and strained to climb up. He managed to scale the building and reach the roof, although he left a trail of blood smeared onto the wall.
Kage left a few seconds before a human arrived to see what the ruckus was about. Still dripping blood, Kage difficulty made his way back to the old building with the room. He climbed the side, and then opened and entered the room through the window.
Back inside, Kage fell to the ground, feeling light headed and weak due to the loss of blood. Looking around

Kurai and Yuki took Kage back home. Kurai had a few deep gashes on him and was bleeding, so Yuki ordered Kage to go to his room and stay there.
Kage went to his room grudgingly. He closed the door behind him and lied down on his bed, gazing out the window at the bright moon in the sky.
After a little while, Kurai and Yuki entered. Kurai had fresh bandages on, although they were beginning to get stained with blood.
“Kagekao; what were you thinking!? You could have been killed!” Yuki scolded.
Kage grumbled something and sat up, but didn’t really respond.
“What possessed you to go to the city alone, and on top of that, to attack a shinigami!?” Kurai growled at him.
“I had to!” Kage looked up at him. “Dad, look what he did to your face!”
“Kage,” Kurai sighed, “I’d much rather lose half of my face then have a dead son.”
Kage was silent.
“I could have killed him, if only I had done it a little different

Kurai was still in pursuit of the man walking alone. The man turned a corner and Kurai followed; out of sight. He saw that the man was headed towards an apartment building, probably where he lived.
Moving more quickly now, Kurai went ahead of the man and towards the apartment building. The harsh white light of the light bulbs near the entrance of the building left dark shadows behind objects and around corners; Kurai crawled behind one of the corners and waited.
The man walked closer to the entrance; unaware of the creature lurking in the darkness of the night. He reached for the handle of the door like everything was normal; when suddenly a devilish cackle was heard from the shadows. The man jumped at the sudden noise, and looked around; terrified.
He looked towards the direction of the noise, a shadowy area besides the door. As his eyes adjusted from the bright light to the darkness of the night, he could make out a shape clinging to the wall. The figure moved slightly, and the light

Kagekao approached the city. He looked around to make sure there were no humans nearby, and entered it. It felt odd, disobeying his parents like this. He’d never really done it before, but right now he felt like he had to.
He climbed up to the top of a building and looked around for the shinigami. Seeing no one, he continued the search deeper into the city. He saw a few humans, but avoided them. Climbing along the rooftops, he continued his search.

After a while of searching; he saw someone walking along the sidewalk. They had three large pairs of wings on their back, and a mask and faceplate on. Kage climbed closer silently. He was disappointed when he saw that it wasn’t Scollex.
This shinigami had black hair and a black and gold suit, along with the fact that his large feathered wings were a light gold instead of white. Even though it wasn’t Scollex, Kage decided to follow him.
This shinigami walked along normally. Kagekao was confused when he saw humans walki

Kagekao was still confined to staying inside the house. It was a good thing, even if Kage didn’t see it that way, because his wounds hadn’t fully healed yet; however, because he couldn’t go outside, he was constantly bored throughout the day.
When night finally arrived, Kage climbed into bed to go to sleep. After a few long minutes, he felt himself drifting off; but someone opened the door to his room and rushed inside. It was Yuki; she shut the door silently and then looked at Kage.
“お母さん? 何で-？” (Mom? What is-?) Kage started, but Yuki quickly motioned for him to stay quiet. She pulled him out of bed and looked around the room. Spotting a shadowy area beside the bed, she crouched down there and hid in the dark. She motioned for Kage to do the same, so he did.
“何-?” (What-?) Kage started to ask again, but Yuki quieted him.
Kage was confused, but he obeyed. They sat in silence for a couple o

Memories, they seem easy to hold on to, yet in reality, are fragile. Like delicate glass or china, memories are precious; yet, even something small could shatter them all. They are precious treasures that one keeps to oneself; although some may be burdens, others are beautiful moments that will always be in memory, long after the moment has passed.
And yet still, they seem like they would be forever, even though once they are gone, they seem like they were never even there.

The sun slowly went down the sky and hid behind the horizon, taking its light with it. Soon there was darkness, but the darkness was pierced by the shining light of the moon and the many stars surrounding it.
Night; it was a good time of day, a time for sleep, a time for peace, a time for silence, a time for ‘games.’
Kagekao sat atop a building’s roof and peered down at the city. People left the streets and reentered their homes, some had happy families; husband, wife,

Kage closed his eyes tightly, hoping that it was all a dream; some horrible nightmare that had struck in the night. He hoped that he would wake up soon, and everything would be normal.
He opened his eyes; everything was still in its ruined state. He closed his eyes and opened them again; still the same. Kage stood up, but moving had made the open wound on his chest hurt again. He sat back down and sighed. This wasn’t a dream; it hurt too much to be a dream.
Kage sat and waited. He couldn’t tell how much time had passed, everything seemed to drag out. What he perceived as minutes were probably just seconds. Maybe he should just go to sleep; his parents would probably be back when he wakes up.
Kage climbed into bed and tried to drift off into sleep; but sleep wouldn’t come, the weight of the situation was just too much.
So he simply waited. He waited for his parents to get back. He waited for everything to be better again. He waited for everything to be normal. Still, n

Kagekao awoke to a bright but dimming light shining through the window. He had fallen asleep, and had slept through the day. Now it was at the end of the day, and the sun was almost finished setting.
Kage sat up and yawned. Looking around the room, he saw that he was still alone. A big part of him had hoped that he would wake up to find someone else here, but there was no one.
He took the blanket off of him and stood up. Kage walked over to the window and looked outside. The sun had dropped below the horizon and the light in the sky was fading to darkness.
He opened up the window and poked his head out, looking down at the streets. There were a few cars, and one or two humans walking along the street. Kage climbed out and onto the wall, shutting the window behind him. He climbed up to the roof and pulled himself up.
Looking up at the sky, there was a brilliant half-moon surrounded by a few stars. One by one, more stars came into view. Soon, the sky was full of wondrous stars. Kage gaze

The demon stood up and looked at his claws; they were drenched in blood. He looked back down at the body. Kage watched, waiting for a good moment to approach.
The demon stopped suddenly, and seemed to grow alert. He listened to the sounds of the night, but didn’t seem to hear anything unusual. Then he turned and looked towards the shadows.
He raised his bloody hand to his face and lifted the mask a little, although not enough to expose any features other than his mouth. Then he turned his head towards where Kage was, even though he couldn’t see him.
Kage was still, and watched as the demon approached him. The demon then noticed Kage was there, and stared at him; seemingly surprised and confused.
They stared at each other, both of them not knowing how to continue.
The demon glanced at the way Kage was; clinging onto the wall with large claws. He could tell that he was definitely not human.

Kagekao stopped; the blades of the staff were just inches away from the demon. His mask no longer showed an angry face, but one of confusion.
The demon eyed the deadly blades and sighs when he sees that they were no longer moving towards him. He took a few deep breaths to calm himself down. He slowly starts to get up.
The face on Kage’s mask changed back to an angry one, and he shoved the blade forward, causing the demon to fall again.
“おまえだれ！？” (Who are you!?) Kage snarled.
“まて、おまえ-!” (Wait, you-!) The demon replied hastily, raising his hands a little to show that he wouldn’t attack.
“どのようにオレの名前を知っていますか！？” (How do you know my name!?) Kage demanded angrily, feeling

Around 21 years ago in Japan there was a city. This city seemed normal, like the others, but it had something different about it; it was plagued by two resident demons and two wandering shinigami (Death god).
Unfortunately for the citizens of this city, the shinigami and demons did what one would expect them to do; murder people. Although once in a while someone managed to wound one of them, the creatures always got away with their malicious deeds. And like many creatures of this sort, most people thought of them as just a myth to frighten children.
“Don’t stay up past dark or the demons will get you!” People would tell children to prevent them from staying out at night. Contrary to most of their beliefs; these creatures were all too real.
Although shinigami of this sort were mostly solitary, these two were different. They were brothers, the older was named Ascaris, and the younger was called Scollex. They mostly hunted alone, although once in a while they woul

Kagekao looked out at the sky. It was a beautiful blue, fluffy white clouds drifted by the hot sun lazily. Birds sang their happy songs joyfully as they swooped through the air. It was midday; too soon to go out and ‘play.’
Kage was sitting on the roof of a house, just thinking to himself. His hood was down and his black and white striped scarf was flowing in the wind. He felt odd, like something was there, but then again it wasn’t. The feeling made him feel depressed and sad. He felt like he was forgetting something important, and he desperately wanted to remember it.
Someone else climbed onto the roof and approached him. Kage turned his head to see who it was. He turned and looked back at the sky when he saw who it was. The person had on a beige fur lined gray hoodie along with a fox mask. The face on the mask was happy, even though that’s not how he felt.

The doors burst open, several policemen rushed inside; guns aimed and ready. Others stayed outside, some in the open and some crouched behind the police cars.
“So, how do we do this?” Doku whispered frantically to Kage.
“Want to take the ones outside? I’ll stay inside and get these ones.” Kage replied, unsheathing his claws.
“Ah, sure; just be careful.”
“I will, don’t worry.” Kage jumped to the wall and quickly climbed to the ceiling.
Doku went the other way, grabbing his bladed staff and going through a window. Outside was dark, from the roof Doku could see all around. Police cars surrounded the building, maybe half a dozen or so. Beside them were the police.
Doku stayed in the shadows, looking to see which ones to get first. He spotted two of them who were quite close to the building. He moved over to them quietly, without being noticed.
Then he shot out the bladed staff, piercing one of them in the shoulder. They cried out

Kagekao had managed to sneak onto a flight headed to Japan. It was a long flight, but he managed to stay hidden throughout it. However, it was boring; so he did decide to have some fun towards the end of the flight.
After the plane had landed and the passengers were waiting to be let out, Kage had snuck up on two of the airline staff. He killed them silently, and then put their bloody bodies on the cart that held drinks and food. He then shoved the cart down the aisle, sending it rolling away with the bodies on it, spilling blood onto the floor as it sped by the passengers.
The passengers had panicked and started screaming and running around. Kage, satisfied with his work, made his way away from the scene and towards the cargo hold. People had already begun taking the bags out, so the door was open and he left.
It was late at night, so the area was dark and filled with shadows; perfect for a demon like Kage to stealthily get around.
Kage then made his way past the airport; climbing up

Kagekao followed AkaDoku through the city. Soon, they reach a moderately sized warehouse.
“おまえここに住んでいる？” (Is this where you live?) Kage asked, looking at the building.
“そうです.” (It is) Doku walks towards it. “来てね.” (Come on)
Doku walked around the side of the building. Kage sees that the doors are closed shut, possibly locked. Doku goes past the doors and to a window. The window is high up, but there are a few crates underneath it.
Doku climbs up the crates and then opens the window. He crawls inside and then beckons Kage to follow him. Kage follows, climbing up the wall without the crate’s help. He goes through the window and then shuts it behind him.
In the warehouse, there are many crates and boxes along with random items here and there. It reminds Kage of where he had lived, yet somehow it was different.

The two demons had made their way to the city that was next to the woods with the house. Before returning to the city where Doku lived, Kage wanted to search this city.
They climbed the buildings to give themselves and eagle eye view of the surrounding area; but they didn’t seem to be able to find any other demons, or even shinigami for that matter.
They continued to search, talking as they went.
“So, tell me more about these shinigami.” Kage asked, looking down at the road from a rooftop.
“Well, that one that I told you about first, the one with the black robes and scythe, he doesn’t seem to be friendly with anyone. I don’t know what his motive is, but he never seems to attack humans, only demons and other shinigami. I avoided him the few times I’ve seen him, and that was a while ago. But I saw him go after this other shinigami once, maybe a year or two ago.” Doku explained, scanning the windows of a seemingly empty building.

“お父さん. . .” (Dad . . .)
Kagekao knelt by his father, crying. The day had been so happy and fun; and now this. The night was silent, no cars, no people, nothing.
Kage felt something new start to burn inside him; what was that? . . . hate?
Scollex’s body had burned up into sparks and ashes, which drifted away on the wind and disappeared out of sight. Yuki picked up the silver daggers which remained, and then ran over to Kage and Kurai.
“クライ!” (Kurai!) She bent down and started to try and find any sign that he was still alive.
“お母さん、お父さんが . . .” (Mom, he’s . . .) Kage couldn’t finish his sentence.

Kagekao lied on the floor of the room. He groaned and turned his head, opening his eyes slowly. He looked around in confusion.
He put his hand to his head and moaned; he had a painful headache. Taking the hand away from his face, he saw a few stains of blood on his fingers. He realized that his head was wrapped in bandages, which had become soaked with blood in a few spots.
Kage looked down, he was lying on the floor and wrapped in a blanket. Looking to the side, he saw something lying next to him. Kage sat up and looked at it; it was an odd mask, half black and half white.
Kage picked up the mask and looked at it. Something in his mind told him that it was his, and that he should wear it. Kage put on the mask. The white side of the mask caught the subtle effect of his eyes taking away light in confusion. This effect was amplified and reflected by the mask, which now had a confused expression on the white side of it.
He also noticed that he was wearing a black and white striped scarf.
