LoZ: Half the Sky... Part 1
A tall young gentleman in a rather nice dark business suit and designer shades, walked through the double doors of the establishment. It was like most places of it's kind, dark and gloomy, with only the small windows, one on each door which were some what shaded, to naturally light up the joint. The bright, but brief light from the outside world upon his entry, however, seemed to make the patrons and employees run and scurry or at the very least shade their eyes with their hands like cockroaches or vampires... The rest of the large oblong windows were covered with sheets to hide the sun and preying eyes, with the remaining dim light coming from antique looking lamps that had little frills hanging off of the different coloured coverings that were on various end tables and also from the lighted crystal chandeliers above, as well as ceiling fans that tried to keep it cool in the enclosed space.
The smoke was thick, thick enough to

Link awoke startled in the early morning hours. He sat up in bed quickly, choking back a scream of terror. It was very dark in the room, save for a candle on his night stand and one on the other next to Zelda. He buried his head into one shaking hand, as his other goes to his scarred chest which is heaving in and out rapidly. Cold sweat runs down his face, chest and back. He wipes the perspiration from his brow, as he tries to regain his breathing. Zelda sits up, rubbing his neck and back encouragingly, trying to soothe him.
"The same dream, Dear?" she asks tiredly, already knowing the answer.
"Yea... the same one.", he responds heavily.
Zelda pulls the covers from off of her and swings her long slender legs out of bed, standing up to put on her pink robe to cover herself from the chilly early morning air. She takes the half burned down candle from the nightstand and lights a wall lantern which removes some of the darkness from parts of the room, but which

Chapter 1: Hard Work
The young man was bent over at the waist. His body was covered in a sheen of sweat, the sun glistening off his powerful shirtless shoulders and back. His face, chest, arms and particularly his hands, were covered in dirt. He stood up straight, but slowly and winced, rubbing his lower back. He had been out here all day since this morning. He paused to take a break and put the handle of the pickax against his flat hard belly. He felt the cool breeze blow, the sweat off his body intensifying the coolness and he was thankful to the Gods for it. He reached into his back pocket and produced the handkerchief Ilia had given him as a present on his 18th birthday. He wiped the sweat from his brow and slicked his spiky hair back, the wetness making it stick. He looked up at the sun trying to shield his eyes and judged he had another two hours before it was eventide. His lips were dry and his throat was parched. He licked his cracked lips tasting the salt on them and breath

Link continued his back breaking work for about another hour. After making another row for vegetables, delicious red peppers this time and planting them, he put his tools back into the basement of his tree house, washed up a bit at his sink, put a clean shirt on and went to feed the horses and to spend some time with Epona. She was a good horse. It was his, but also Ilia's. She took good care of her when he was training or working and Ilia always scolded him when he ran Epona too hard.
He went to the horse pen where everyone's horses were and he instantly saw Epona waiting for him. She could tell time better than him Ilia would always say and her big beautiful red brownish head with snowdrift mane was hanging over the fence, her white tail could be seen swooshing in the air in anticipation. He went up to her and she nodded her head at him braying her "Hello". He patted her nose and hugged it. "That's my Beauty..." he said

Neither Link nor Ilia knew how long they had been standing there in the shade of the big tree holding one another... then again it did not matter. They were both lost in one another's kiss and embrace. The only reason they had even stopped was because the children; making their usual fuss over them being romantic together, had finally come back from the horse stables after they had brushed, fed, watered and also played with the horses, making sure they had gotten their daily exercise, especially Epona. And by now Beth was no longer dragging Colin by the hand, but she still stood near him.
Colin asked Link if he would help train him before it got dark tonight with his father and Link looked up to the sky and noticed finally that the sun was beginning to make it's slow decent downward. In an hour or two he reckoned it would be down completely. Link nodded and Ilia blushed and moved away slyly, only th

“Papa...”, she called out this time, after the door had shut completely behind her.
Bo was in the kitchen making dinner and turned his attention to his daughter, “Yes, Dear?”
“Father, did Link leave flowers for me...”, she asked.
“No... not that I am aware of. He did not bring them in here if he did. Why do you ask child?”
“Hanch said he saw Link late last night after dark, when everyone else was asleep, poking around picking some flowers...”, she started, nervousness in her voice. Ilia had always been a worrier, even if she was a strong willed girl, she had always worried... Now with her heart set on Link, the worry came flooding in even more... “and I was wondering if he dropped them off as a surprise to me or something...”, her voice trailed off.
Bo raised an eyebrow laying the dish towel on the sink and placed his lit goat antler pipe to his lips.

The Ordon Autumn Festival was held once a year every year in autumn, right after the harvest. It was meant to give thanks for a wonderful crop and for the great wealth that the goats provided them. The animals gave them wool to make clothing, milk to drink and meat to eat. They also provided the sheer raw power for heavy and other wise impossible or back breaking tasks; such as plowing the earth or moving heavy lumber, etc. And they were also a way of trade and wealth when it came to exporting them, especially to Hyrule castle, where the meat was famed for it's succulent tenderness, as well as beasts of burden.
The festival had it's assorted games of both fun and skill for all ages, rides that were man or goat powered, the yearly horse and goat races along with the archery contest, the sumo tournament and of course the huge feast at the end. All the prized fruits and vegetables that were grown that year and meat from the goats, were made

It was a cool bright spring morning and Zelda was riding on her horse Snowdrift. She was wearing her white riding pants and a black jacket over a white vest and a pair of black riding gloves, with two of her royal guardsmen. She was going to see Link after all these years... She was a bit nervous and was actually trembling while holding the reigns. She had not really spoken to him for so long and she was wondering how he was doing. She thought about summoning him to the castle to have an official audience with him, but she thought it better if she just dropped by unannounced... maybe even surprise him...
They came upon the village on the outskirts of Hyrule's borders, by the name of Kemranth. She saw the slow moving caravans on either side of the road pull to the left or right respectively, to give Zelda a wide birth. They tipped their hats or nodded if riding and b

The sun was down before he rode Epona back into the horse pen, this time by using the gate. They had a great run, but it took him at least half an hour longer than he had expected. Epona just did not want to give him up. It was not like Link did not enjoy the ride, he always loved riding her, especially unbarred and out in the open, but he did have that other obligation...
They neared the stables and he got off of her. He gave her a quick brush to get what ever dust they had stirred up on her off of her and fluffed her straw for her bedding. He then made sure she and the other horses had plenty of food. Finally he pumped some fresh water into a bucket and poured it into the large open barrel that was cut in half horizontally as a watering hole. He walked her into her area and she layed down. He patted her nose and kissed her forehead and promised to spend more time with her tomorrow. She brayed and nodded her head and seemed to nuz

With most of the chores already done by Bo and the other children, Link only had to worry about tending his garden and Epona. It was already mid afternoon and he had already made the rows and had planted the yummy crisp green and red leaf lettuces and he was now planting the mouth watering juicy red tomatoes, and he was going to finish with planting a row of delicious green onions. He wanted this years harvest to be the best yet! He wanted to be able to have not only enough for himself and share with the rest of the village, but also perhaps share some with Princess Zelda. They had become such good friends even if he chose his home here in the village and his heart belonged to someone else... but they would always be good friends or so he hoped... And if he could he would have sent some to Twilight, for he was sure they probably did not have the same foods they had here and vice versa... but that was now impossible... Link frowned thinking about that.&

Link was slouched in his saddle, the morning light hurting his eyes. He had had a long night... Epona was moving slowly herself, but brayed her happiness when she saw Ilia standing where she had once been, when order and light had finally been restored to the kingdom. But this time, however, Ilia did not look so pleased. She did not run to them as she once had or tried to hug or kiss Link. Instead, she only held onto the reigns as Link slowly and carefully slid off, almost falling to the ground. Ilia almost immediately went to help him, but stopped short. He did not look injured at all, just tired... too tired for being gone, alone and asleep all night...
Link regained part of his composure and turned around expecting to see a smiling Ilia, with loving arms being wrapped around him. What he found though, was her icy stare. It was a warm morning, but he felt chilled to the bone. Link tried to smile, but Ilia just glared coldly at him.

Link went home to finish cooking his prized meat loaf that was already in the oven and mashed potatoes on the stove. A lot of people did not like meat loaf he knew, but once they tasted his, they usually fell in love with it. He made it special with just the right amount spices, but what made it so delicious, was what he put on the very top as it was baking. He mixed ketchup, mustard, brown sugar and a hint of Hyrulean Sauce, while letting it bake. The topping really gives it a nice sweet tangy texture and never needs any extra ketchup on the side. And his mashed potatoes... well there was no secret, they were just scrumptious!
He mashed the potatoes and took the last of the loaf pans, of which some were borrowed, carefully from his oven, some pans being already out on the table since he had to make more than one batch due to his small oven. He also had to get dressed for the festival. He was going to try and look nice this year, but he

It was dark outside with the snow falling heavily to the ground. It was a foot deep on the trails and even deeper in other places. The lake was frozen solid and the trees were barren. Ice cycles covered the edges of the cottage, from the roof to the windows. They would sparkle magically with any kind of light shown against them. Zelda figured it would be the best time for making snow men and snow angels. And maybe..., she smirked to herself, thinking up a dastardly plan in her mind... even a snowball fight, where she would fain innocence and then let him have it!
But right now she had been cooking dinner, while from time to time looking out the living room window waiting for Link to come home. She had missed him something fierce all day. But this bomb was no ordinary bomb. It was not the bulbous kind with the small fuse as the detonator. It did not need any source of flame to ignite it. It also was not the remote mouse bombs which was a wonder onto themselves, that could travel a couple hundred meters under and over things before they exploded, either killing unsuspecting enemies or opening doors or disarming traps.
No, these bombs were in a whole other class by themselves. Unlike the other two bombs mentioned; the first one being rather cheap to purchase and in rather large quantities and the other being a bit more expensive and not as readily available. These bombs, Clock Work Bombs, were very expensive and were a rarity. So rare in fact, that it took weeks to make just one and cost $1000 rupees for the inventor's trouble. But they were well worth every rupee and more.

She knocked on the bathroom door gently, to let him know to hurry and heard the water stop. She rushed back to put the finishing touches on the evening meal and to set up the table. He came out clothed in a casual grey whitish shirt and pants for a restful evening and went out into the dark living room with only the light from the flaming fireplace and the two flickering candles on the round wooden table to guide his way. He saw Zelda standing there smiling and asked him to take a seat.
He did so and he saw the fine china, the wine glasses, the polished good silverware, the pretty decorative napkins and the special table cloth. Link spied a large blueish roasting pan with a lid in the middle of the table and Zelda opened it. His mouth watered as he could smell the sweet aroma of the roasted meat and vegetables. Link went down the ladder into his basement, lighting the lantern. He went to the chest in the very back, noting the dust and opened it. Inside, minus the Master Sword, was all his gear from adventuring, including his Hero's outfit, still just as green as the forest from when he had first received it and he assumed just as green as when it was first created for the original Hero so many moons ago. It was his best article of clothing, clean and still nicely pressed from the last time he had put it away. He got into it and finished pulling on his brown leather boots. He looked in the mirror and fluffed his hair a bit smiling, but nervously. Before leaving he grabbed one final item and tucked it away, shutting the chest.
He got back to the banquet and saw all the paper lanterns lit. They looked beautiful being of many different colours, as they were strung from one house to the next, some through trees while others were supported high on

He doubted he would ever wear it again, until upon his eventual death.
Next to him was his best friend, brother, father and mentor all rolled up into one. Today, however, Rusl was designated his Best Man and dressed finely himself. He had done all he could to raise the boy right, to bring him up into the strapping young lad he was today and with out any doubt, Rusl had succeeded.

Link awoke in the early morning hours to his baby crying and Ilia stirring. Jennifer cried a lot at night and it was Ilia who usually got up to soothe her, but not tonight. She was sick in bed and Link had been taking care of her the last few days, as well as the baby practically on his own. Ilia was starting to feel a little better as she began to roll to the edge of the bed groaning, but Link hushed her and told her to go back to sleep. He would deal with their child. Ilia said something unintelligible, most likely still half a sleep and began her uneasy slumber again.
Link sat up, placing his forehead in his hands and his elbows on his knees, feeling groggy. He had been working hard in his personal garden, as well as tending to the new herb garden at Ordon Spring, along with his other usual duties and also with waiting on Ilia practically hand and foot. And taking care of the little one was taxing. He had no idea how Ilia managed as much as s

The door was shut as Link left and she dried her hair more. She looked into the still some what foggy mirror and thought about cutting her hair a bit, but understood Link loved it long. Although she knew without a doubt, he would still love her and continue thinking of her as the most beautiful in all the lands, she also liked to give him what he wanted and she loved him so she kept it.
Still wearing the rather large towel around her, still comfy and warm from Link's sweet gesture, she opened the door. The cold air swirled around her, biting her exposed skin and she instantly became chilly again. She tip toed on the soft carpet to see what Link was up to and found him making something on the stove which smelled sweet. It was hot chocolate! The young man was seated in his chair. Grey cubicles lined the room where he worked and it felt sort of like a prison. You could not hardly talk to anyone and even the colour of the walls looked drab. Not even the soft humming fluorescent lights above could make it feel any less foreboding. But it did pay the bills and right now that was what was really needed...
“Just another boring day at the office”, he thought as he looked at the clock on his computer monitor and saw he had almost another hour before lunch. He sighed, then a call from his boss came in. “Oh great...”, he thought, what had he done or not done now...

Link had fought a few of them when he had neared the castle and he had barely made it out alive.
