Internet Etiquette (Edited with critique advice)Some people brought up some pretty important points, so I've added some additional information about critiques below!Internet Etiquette (Edited with critique advice)2 years ago in Personal More Like This
Something that's been bugging me a bit lately is how the DA community has sorta changed over the years (and not in a good way). People are more bold and will post whatever's on their mind, and while that can be a good thing in some scenarios, I feel that people oftentimes say things that they might not realize will hurt someone's feelings.
I generally get a lot of positive feedback, and it really helps! It's always great to know that someone likes my work, and it keeps me motivated to keep going with this hobby. However, I'm still a human being, and negative criticism can hurt me just as much as anyone else. I'm not sure what it is, but the amount of really negative comments has increased these past couple years, and it really discourages me from even using this website anymore. Many times I've considered just disabling comments entirely, but I feel that would

COSPLAY MAKEUP TUTORIAL!Hi guys!! Thank you as always to all watchers and everyone who faves and comments - I'm so sorry I don't have much time these days to reply to everything, but I definitely do read and appreciate them all!COSPLAY MAKEUP TUTORIAL!2 years ago in Personal More Like This
I've been asked so many times I've lost count to put together a makeup tutorial on how I do my cos makeup - and I finally did it!
I hope this is a little helpful, although some disclaimers - I have Caucasian features, so my makeup will be very different to someone with a different face shape. I use a lot of eyemakeup, much more than a lot of people, just because I do lol. My eyes a pretty big naturally, so I line them right up the edge, as opposed to widening the eye by drawing further out. A few things like that to bear in mind ^_^ That said, hope you enjoy! *chu*
Any questions please feel free to ask!

Sharing versus StealingI'm kind of irritated right now and decided to write up a thing about proper art sharing etiquette, something I had hoped was common sense.Sharing versus Stealing2 months ago in Personal More Like This
First things first, so you like an artist and their work and you want to share it with the world. Awesome! More power to you, but be sure you're actually sharing the artwork and not stealing it like an ignorant 12 year old.
A lot of people repost my artwork on the internet and 99% I am of the time perfectly okay with it due to the fact that 99% of users repost it and give me credit.
The right way to repost work:
"Love this picture! It was made by whispwill !"
They reposted it to their account but they gave me credit and linked back to one of my social media outlets, generally my deviantart or tumblr ( http://whispwill.tumblr.com/ ). Do this and you will probably never hear from me ever, in fact it kind of makes me happy to see it.
The wrong way to repost peoples work:
"Love this picture!"
No credit given. This
Journal-enchantmentsSo, you want to know how to ENCHANT your journal?Journal-enchantments9 years ago in Personal More Like This
Well, here are a collection of codes and tips you can use in your journal, to make it look as pretty as many other journals around deviantART.
How to add images to your journal
< img src="source URL" alt="Image Description" />
remember to remove the spaces in the code when you're using it
The source URL is the URL of the picture you want to include, and the image description will be shown if the image, for some reason, cannot be loaded. Please also don't forget the trailing />. If you forget it, problems like your text not being properly aligned might occur.
Images you wish to place in your journal must be hosted offsite, either on your own webspace, or utilizing one of the image hosting services like Photobucket.com.
If you want to add thumbs from deviantArt, you use the code : thumb#### : to your journal.
You have to replace the #### with the numbers from the deviation URL.
For example: http://www
Cosplay Photoshoot EtiquetteMy good friend hikaraseru has written a very good guide on how a standard cosplay photoshoot should be conducted in a conducive manner. Want to plan a cosplay shoot, but somehow things just don't turn out right? Maybe the photos were not how you visualised them, or that the photographer seemed to be extra grumpy, or you just don't know what's going on? Read on for how to get the best out of your cosplay shoot:
The 4 Ps:
Having a plan is essential and should take up the most time overall in your shoot. Speak to the photographers closely, because they will be the ones producing the photos that will be the end result; make sure they are aware of the concept and background of the series you're shooting. Some photographers will want to do their own research prior to the shoot (reading the manga/watching the anime/looking up reference photos) - so make sur

The Future of SYAC?I'm leaning on the side of axing it entirely. I know that I pretty much owe my online "fame" to the popularity of SYAC, and that despite a small core group of naysayers the vast majority of my watchers love the series... but I personally have always had problems with it. It was never meant to be more than a few strips long, and my attempts to turn it into a full blown series have been awkward and clumsy at best. The Future of SYAC?2 years ago in Personal More Like This
Using myself as the main character for SYAC was a huge mistake, one which I realized early on and one which you can see me struggle with throughout the rest of the series. Even after completely retooling it to be a new story with Emily and Jade, I didn't get very far into it before complications forced me to stop. I don't really want to do anything with SYAC right now, but at the same time I understand there are a lot of fans of the series I need to consider. So here are a couple of ideas I had on what I could do with it, but feel free to jump down into the comments secti

It's so quiet...Sorry for the lack of activity here! I've been busy XDIt's so quiet...2 years ago in Personal More Like This
It's been a bit of a mental start to 2013, with Jenn getting a new job, a bunch of birthdays and events, and a lack of money forever looming overhead!
I've mostly been busy working on my costume and kit for a new LARP system I'm joining next month, so when I have some good pictures of that, I'll share them here. It's not often I will share pictures of my original characters on deviantART (in fact, I don't think I've ever done it), but I'm really proud of the kit for this. A bunch of Parlé are all joining the same system, so hopefully we can get a few good shots before time in!
Here's a preview of the costume, for those interested...
On the con-front, things are less busy than usual, due to clashing events, and one or two that we usually attend for fun that we're opting out of this year. We did London Anime Con at the start of the month, which was a fantastic event. Still t
(RANT) What it is to be WRONGSo I just got another comment explaining to me how someone's friends are really mean and evil- and how only their cosplay friends act this way, and it's always just in the community… how the community is really horrible and twisted- and people are so friggin mean- and I just want to point out something of relevance and address this because it's really starting to confuse me… just because of this-(RANT) What it is to be WRONG2 years ago in Personal More Like This
It's not 'just your cosplay friends' or 'just the community' it's everyone.
Humans act this way.
People want validation for their work, time, effort, and artists are one of the biggest roles in which the only validation you generally get only that, and sometimes people don't even get that pat on the back.
It's really tough out there.
So yes- human beings may attempt to out shine you, or put you down- or accuse you of things- it's habit. This would not apply just to the cosplay community- have you ever had to put your art in a gallery? Trust me- not everyone is going to be all thumbs up if your

dA Spirit Day?? What a joke!I think it's a joke that Deviantart says it supports "Spirit Day". Yes, I'm serious. It's a JOKE! Deviantart is notorious for censoring BL images, even the most naive ones.dA Spirit Day?? What a joke!2 years ago in Personal More Like This
I've had two images censored in the past. They were both just a light kiss between two fully dressed boys.
It's all because they heed the complaints of the people who don't like to see their favourite characters in that kind of situation.
Hellooo... Deviantart does the opposite of what it says.
I'm embarrassed that there are people who support them for their fake support.

So, I've decided to open this out to my watchers, in case it's of interest to anyone
At the request of my mates, I set up this Marvel "high school" AU roleplaying board, and we've decided to open it up before we get started to allow others to join.
I WARN YOU NOW THAT I CAN BE A BITCH OF AN RP ADMIN.
I am very particular about the kinds of writers I want on my board, and personally will be vetting every application that comes through. I classify this as an "intermediate to advanced RP board", and 300 words per post should be a bare minimum of your abilities, as well as using good spelling and grammar.
Feel free to take a look, and feel ever freer to apply but don't get offended if your personal style or skill isn't what I'm looking for on my board. If you can't take criticism of your writing easily, then be

Mainly it would result in 100% more videos for you guys, as well as being able to branch out and really dedicate time in production and editing.
This is something I've been talking about with Kelly for a while now, and I have recently (after some serious talk) gained my mothers support in the venture.
However, I can't do it for free. This is where you guys come in.
1) In the last few months of 2012, I plan to push for new designs in the Parlé store. So if you'd like to support us; then please buy a t-shirt or two when they are ready to go!
US STORE: http://parleproductionsusa.spreadshirt.com
UK STORE: http://parleproductions.spreadshirt.co.uk
2) Tell your friends about our shows, make your own videos talking about the shows. Do journals and tumblr blogs; anything to get the Parlé name out there and appealing to more people. The more people we get; the more likely this will happen.
3) Although we're not ke

So, Abunaicon is THIS FRIDAY, and I've finally got around to deciding exactly which costumes I'm bringing... though no clue what ones I'm wearing on which days!
- Portal, Experiment 13B
- Avengers, Tony Stark
- L4D2, Ellis
- X-Men, Rogue
I haven't worn Rogue for aaages, but having tried it on again last night, I'm really excited to be wearing this costume again. She is, after all, one of my absolute favourite Marvel characters~
There is a preliminary EuroCosplay round being held at Abunaicon too, so we're expecting to see some awesome costumes at this! As Jenn and I are primarily non-Japanese/Asian origin cosplayers and choose our costumes from outside of this spectrum, we're looking forward to seeing not only some great costumes from animes and manga, but also some fantastic Western-origin costumes too!
Keep an eye on your convention schedules, and come see our panels!

Opening up for CommissionsHello Everyone!!Opening up for Commissions1 year ago in Personal More Like This
I've been taking a little break from pixel art to work on other things I had an interest in and would really love to start doing it again. The thing is, I don't really like doing it for myself and often prefer to draw other peoples characters! It's much more fun for me, as I love making up the worlds they live in. So if you are interested in commissioning me, I would be more than happy to accept!
So, a bit of information about what I am offering at the moment. ::
Single character pixel art.
$10-$20 (Depending on how complicated the character is.)
Small scene, 1-2 characters, animated.
$40-50 (Depends on character count.)
Large scene, 1-4 characters, animated.
These take me a while to do, and I'm only offering to do one or two of these at the moment.
$75-$100 (Depends o
