Spammers on dASo, over the last 6 or so months people have been noticing that deviantART has been getting hit by malicious spammers.Spammers on dA3 years ago in Personal More Like This
The current trend of these spammers is to favourite an image of yours and then when you reply on their page you get a message along the lines of "I really liked your work. Hey I just got this free X Item and thought I should share it with you." These are all spammers, the links lead to potentially malicious sites. We have been blacklisting these websites and banning all the spammers we can find.
However we need your support in this, we need you to report them too us. We have a section of the help desk dedicated to reports about these accounts, it's titled "Spammer Reports". Tickets in that section are handled within 48 hours during the working week. But unfortunately I've been noticing a tendency that some of these accounts can last for days without being reported. People are aware of them because they're commenting on the profiles stating that they're spammers,

dAmn It To Be Phased OutThe deviantART community is always growing and changing. To keep the site fresh and relevant, we need to focus on what's important, otherwise we'll spread ourselves too thin.dAmn It To Be Phased Out1 year ago in DeviantArt Announcements More Like This
Recently, we've been going through all of the site's features and settings to assess usage, traffic, community reception, and how the feature helps contribute to deviantART's goals.
dAmn It, the system where deviants can submit and vote on funny quotes from Chat (originally called "dAmn" or deviantART Messaging Network), is a feature that gets extremely low usage and traffic.
On November 30, 2013 dAmn It will be officially phased out. Until then, the feature has been removed from the main site navigation but will still be available via the Chat page for those who want to archive any quotes.
Phasing out unused and outdated features allows us to focus our resources on improving existing features and building new ones to hel

But even though temporary, it did changed my perspective on some matters.
It's weird how much the internet can become an influence, and how this process goes so unnoticed. At a certain point the countless voices of people around you blend into a continuous buzz. A buzz that you soon get so familiar with that you forget there was a life before it. I guess that's what social media does in general; creating a buzz. An artificial need for you to continuously be online and check your messages, because you might just miss something otherwise. Life, in general, has become so infused with the internet that it sometimes scares me. I'm part of the internet industry. Hell, I even made it my job! But even I sometimes find myself wondering where the time has gone that I could work on an artwork for hours straight, without feeling that creeping itch to check my messages.
The last few weeks before the break, I've repeatedly felt bad about

FC's And OC's--There's A DifferenceI noticed :iconasafary: was having a problem with this, and I just wanted to help her out a littleFC's And OC's--There's A Difference4 years ago in Personal More Like This
I'm not sure how to start this off. Didn't plan this ahead of time XD Well, I read that artsist's journal today, and I noticed she's on to something here. The most of you guys have little dragon characters, right? That at some point or another have something to do with Malefor or meeting Spyro--something like that. Those characters are NOT original characters. They're fan characters. It's not a big deal; whether OC or FC, it's still YOUR character, and you can make whatever you please. But calling it an OC is basically saying you got the design, style, species, pattern, etc. all from your own mind. That isn't the case with some people. Some people take the design of Cynder, mix it up a little, and call it an OC. It's okay if you make characters off the designs of Spyro and Cynder, that's COMPLETELY fine. But they're not OC's, they're FC's.
Astrid, for example, is kinda in the middle

New Username Symbols
With 13,000 new deviants joining deviantART each day, we want to ensure everyone's user experience is seamless. A common question from new and old deviants alike is: "What do username symbols mean?" Over the years, as we’ve surveyed deviants, we’ve found that very few understand symbols.
As part of our ongoing process to make the user experience cleaner and more intuitive, we've launched a new set of username symbols designed to help easily identify deviant-types.

How art tutoring should be nowadaysYes. Another one of my rants that starts with a personal experience. How art tutoring should be nowadays1 year ago in Deviant Events More Like This
It was a day like any other, and I was just surfing DeviantArt, browsing the many deviations in my inbox. While I did so, my eye wandered to something that was called an 'tutorial on manga anatomy'. As usual, I was curious about the content. And as the preview image was pretty small, I wanted to check this out. It seems like this girl, let's name her Abbey (it's not her real name, but I think calling her 'that girl' is so damn confusing) had made a tutorial on male manga anatomy. Nothing wrong with that, you'd say. But I've been following Abbey for a while already. I originally met her in the forums, asking for feedback on one of her fanart drawings. Mostly anatomy related stuff. I gave her some tips. We talked a bit. And I followed her soon after, as I thought her art looked pretty promising altogether.
Now, I didn't know Abbey in real life. But she was a beginning artist, nowhere towards a level

Ubisoft Bullshit, Nintendo Wins, Link is a girlNow that the E3 dust has started to settle we can focus on some of the stuff that happened earlier this week in more detail.Ubisoft Bullshit, Nintendo Wins, Link is a girl9 months ago in Personal More Like This
When asked about why there was no female playable assassin in the upcoming Assassin’s Creed game, Ubisoft made the bad decision to try and justify it. They said that a female assassin was planned, but that they didn’t have the resources to implement it because it would’ve require too much extra work and “business is business” after all.
I call bullshit on that. It’s been well known that adding a female character to a game doesn’t increase the budget much (if at all), and many of the same animations and actions can be applied to both male and female characters. Even Jim Sterling addressed this issue (2 years ago) by asking people in the industry how “hard” it is to add female character models and the answer is... not hard at all really:
New Username SymbolsAs part of our ongoing process to make the user experience cleaner and more intuitive, we've launched a new set of username symbols designed to help easily identify deviant-types.New Username Symbols1 year ago in DeviantArt Announcements More Like This
At a glance, the new symbols are quickly recognizable. When hovering over a username symbol, a tooltip appears, providing a brief explanation of that user's deviant-type. If clicked, a modal appears, giving a brief explanation for each username symbol, with "Learn more" links that lead to more detailed explanations.
A word from Heidi:
Over the years, a few things have come to seem like deviantART mainstays. Deviant green, intricate art categorization, colorful avatars, symbols next to usernames. In our constant re-evaluation of what's best for longtime deviants and new users alike, we do sometimes need to stop and ask ourselves if a makeover for some aspect isn't overdue. Changing username symbols was one of the harder things we evaluated.
I've been testin
Important notice about account securityThere was recently an incident on another website, completely unrelated to deviantART.com, that resulted in account email addresses and passwords for that site being leaked online. While the information was not deviantART-related, your deviantART account may be at risk if you use the same email address and password for multiple sites.Important notice about account security1 year ago in DeviantArt Announcements More Like This

And even now I'm seriously considering disabling comments for the things that I make. Because I'm so fed up with the continuous hate. And I'm so goddamn sick and tired of people that send me messages that I should just die, just because I happen to make a tutorial. (Yes, this message was literally send to me -- by PM ofcourse)
In the past weekend I hadn't so much to do. I wasn't that inspired to make art, so I decided to work on that tutorial that for which the idea had been floating inside my head for a while already.
Like some of you know, I've been giving drawing workshops every now and then for the past 2 years. Nothing too serious. I don't even get paid for it (aside from an occasional artbook or fanart drawing). I was there because of passion. Beca
Don't forget to look backMany people say that looking back is a bad thing to do, because it makes you dwell on the past and is getting you nowhere.Don't forget to look back1 year ago in Deviant Events More Like This
I beg to differ! Because I think it doesn't hurt to look back on what you already achieved, every once in a while.
In contrary; it can be a great motivation.
I came to DeviantArt, almost 7 years ago, with close to no expectations.
To provide you a bit of a background; As a kid, I used to show my drawings to all the people around me (to the level of sheer annoyance). And in the early years of the internet, I posted my writings and drawings on several Dutch forums, where I got quite the feedback on it. But as social media gradually took over the internet, and the small forums I used to reside on died a slow death, I realized the stage of getting feedback there would soon be over for me.
DeviantArt was in that sense the next place to move to. A community that wasn't killed by the influence of social media. But it was a hard place to move to.

Tips for smooth clean line artHi,Tips for smooth clean line art2 years ago in Art Features More Like This
Is your line art shaky, wobbly, sloppy, fat, uneven or pixelated? The subject of clean line art comes up a lot so I've gathered together a number of tips from various DA members that may help you improve your line art. Some of the techniques described below may contradict other techniques described below so you may want to experiment and decide what works best for you. Most of these assume that you have a digital tablet. (Make sure your tablet drivers have been installed correctly. If your cursor is behaving erratically it may indicate a problem with your tablet or drivers.) Some posts have been edited for brevity or spelling:
"I developed my own technique. And it works quite well for me. It raised my Lineart cleanliness from 24% to 98%, yeah, really. Here is how I do it digitally when I'm not using a traditional sketch:
First a rough sketch, and I isolate it in its own layer then set its opacity to 50 or something near that value.
Then on the second layer
