There are people who literally spend hours of their life every day following me. People who obsessively save every work of art I post online. People who comment and hypothesize about everything I do, even when I am not doing anything. People who make their own comics, websites, and blogs because of me. People who meticulously sift through my stats, my comments, and near-decade old journals. People who obsessively screen-capture everything I say or do anywhere online. People who seemingly have no life other than to talk about every aspect of my own. People who, day in and day out, never tire of talking about me to their friends online.
These people are amazing and I am continually astounded by them and the things they come up with... over a worthless and unimportant cartoonist.
Not even a good cartoonist either. Just an average, slightly stubborn, mediocrely popular on a dubious website... cartoonist. Not a politician with real influence in the world. Not a famous

reaching out to me as I keep drowning
In this heart, an empty canvas
I will blacken it with tears
Illusions that seem to never end
Falling through like an hourglass
Shrouded by all these mysteries
Warmth that feels so familiar
Heartless words that escape my lips
Laughter threatens to eat my soul
Fearing taking a step ahead
What awaits me no is a future of gray
Praying to see an answer
Amongst these broken lies
If my words were to reach you
what would you say?
Scattering the light broken in pieces
Shattering the darkness from within
I can hear a voice as it grows distant
pulling me back into life...
If I were to lose all that surrounds me
If I were to find only a void
I would give up all my senses
Just to fall into your arms
Illusions that seem to never end
Hidden under a vacant smile
Fearing words that were never said
Echoing in endless layers of gray...
Failing to find an answer
I hold my breath again
Desperate to break away
History Repeats ItselfLast week a Connecticut action group going by the name of SouthingtonSOS held a video game burning event where local citizens were encouraged to bring various forms of violent media to be burned in a dumpster, no doubt a reaction to the recent Connecticut shooting.History Repeats Itself2 years ago in Personal More Like This
I wish I could say I am surprised about this, but sadly the whole media frenzy surrounding violence in video games and movies reminds me of something that already happened once and profoundly affected the media it was accusing: Comic books.
During the early days of comic books, things occasionally got a little risqué. EC Horror comics in particular delighted in rendering extremely gruesome images and disturbing themes in their comics, which were being sold to children unbeknownst to their parents (because naive parents at the time had no reason to suspect comics might contain "inappropriate" material). However all that changed in 1954.
German-American psychiatrist Fredric Wertham was upset about how disturbing some of those

Filed under 'M'....for 'Misplaced'As a kid, I always idolised those crazy characters in movies that worked in a chaotic environment, filled with papers and books. You know the ones? They were always looking for a specific item amid their hoard of stuff, and they'd tear the place apart in search of it.Filed under 'M'....for 'Misplaced'1 year ago in Personal More Like This
I just realised: I've become one of those characters.....and that sh*t's not nearly as much fun as it looked on screen when I was 8.

It's sound-effect-less, music-less, and not cleaned up at all, but I will be uploading each scene as I complete them so that the voice actors can see how their work is coming together. Perhaps it's also interesting for people interested in some of the processes of animation, as well.
Good Grief.I wish satire/sarcasm wasn't so easily missed on the internet. It's really discouraging to create something that obviously is meant to be taken as a joke, only to see hundreds of people respond to it like it's "serious business."Good Grief.2 years ago in Personal More Like This

If so, that's the strangest looking cat I've ever seen. Officially scripted as the citizens of Wovey Dovey Land, and not cats. And as to what ol' Queen Bucktooth did... I didn't see anything, did you? What we don't see can be far worse than what we do... And that's the last I'll say about it.
"Will you and Katie be returning?"
Of course! We love bringing you these stories, and your response has been more positive than we ever could have imagined. Katie and I are working on new stories right now. We return with issue 9! In the meantime, keep an eye out for new cover art!

No. Sorry, I really am not comfortable giving out my home address, or becoming responsible for somebody else's property. Your best bet is to catch me at a show, I'm doing many this year, and I will gladly sign books!

The State of Web Comics + My Intentions with SYACAbout SYACThe State of Web Comics + My Intentions with SYAC10 months ago in Personal More Like This
One of the reasons I focus so much attention on Marvel and DC is because they’re big companies who should know better. They are made up by hundreds of people all chipping in little bits here and there, and for that there is no excuse for bad artwork, bad writing, or bad material in general. They are, to an extent, a bit of a cheap shot, but everyone can learn from their mistakes and I can offer my opinions about them and what I personally would do differently. And if you’re paying money for their products, I think you deserve good content in return, no?
SYAC is, at it’s core, about how comic artists and the comic industry works and poking fun at the various things they get wrong... and sadly that includes a lot of really hot button topics like Women’s Rights, Sexism, Racism, Homophobia, etc. Comics are no longer their own sheltered little thing... they’ve been THRUST into the mainstream audience and all of these problems we or

My Minecraft Testificate InfestationIn Minecraft there are these squidward like villagers called Testificates. In a recent update they were given new abilities such as having babies to repopulating a town based on the number of houses there are. Since the requirement for a "house" is simply a room with a roof and a door, I decided to spend my time building a massive city for the Testificates to populate, using a generated village as a starting point. My Minecraft Testificate Infestation3 years ago in Personal More Like This
After building a number of houses, I began noticing the little children running wild and there becoming quite a LOT of villagers. I undertook a huge task of building a BIG open area underground with a couple doors and lights. Because the area was so big, the Testificates began to... um... OVER populate.
These little buggers reproduced the village so fast that I couldn't keep up and soon they were overflowing out of buildings. Mob attacks couldn't keep up with the rate they were repopulating, and the iron golems that kept spawning (for every 15 villager a new one spawns) made
'Why Pony Fanart?'It was an innocent enough question.'Why Pony Fanart?'4 days ago in Personal More Like This
I'm lucky to work in an environment of people who are their own sort of nerd about something. We have an in-office D&D campaign going, a league of Pokemon collectors, a bastion of Trekkies (who really had a difficult week, bless their souls)...and of course we've got a few Bronies in the stable too. I'm among pretty good company. And while the question "why all the ponies?" wasn't asked in any manner of hostility, I've seen message boards ignite this inquiry not with curiosity but frustrated rage.
I've got my own reasons. The character designs are easy to draw. They're bright with bold colors allowing me to flex my palette more. They're just so darned expressive. There's a massive talent pool of artists whom I can collaborate with if I'm not doing a pony image of my own. But one of the biggest reasons, and this is important for somebody who makes a part of their living freelancing alongside other independent entities (that's you wonderful folks)

Please find below the assignments and challenges for the second week of Synergy. The assignments are mandatory for each individual to complete; we request that both partners report their assignments separately. The challenges are optional to gain extra points. All participants must report their responses to each assignment and challenge separately; one partner cannot report for both.
Week Two: Assignments
Please complete the following assignments and challenges by June 15.
1. Read three of your partner's literary pieces, and leave an in-depth critique for each one. In a comment on this journal, please leave links to the deviations you have critiqued; this activity will earn you 25 points for each one. If your partner does not have enough pieces left to critique, please note the group and we will arrange for an equivalent activity. (75 points total)
2. Discuss your current work in progress with your partner. Does it need work on plot

I'm not sure if the story of how I became a writer is an odd or interesting one, but I've been thinking about some things lately, and I decided to share it with you all.
I was either nine or ten, and I had just began to see the use of computers. 90% of my friends had a MySpace. MSN Chat, or whatever, and even though I didn't exactly want those, I wanted to "surf the web" all on my own. So, after much begging of my parents, I finally got an hour on our crappy old desktop. I was ecstatic. You want to know what the first thing I Googled was?
"Pokemon Sir Aaron love story."
I had just gotten the movie Pokemon: Lucario and the Mystery of Mew. I had "fallen in love," or what my young mind deemed as love, with the character of Sir Aaron. Why I decided to type in "love story," I'll never really know, but it lead me to this little site called Fanfiction.net. The first fanfiction I ever read was one
Brace Yourself - More Women in Gaming NewsJustin Bailey Samus Costume in SSBBBrace Yourself - More Women in Gaming News7 months ago in Personal More Like This
So Nintendo released this today: https://www.facebook.com/permalink.php?story_fbid=316135481893472&id=224173137756374
In case you didn’t go check it out, it’s a screenshot of a costume option for Zero Suit Samus which has her dressed in basically a sports-bra outfit. An obvious nod to the “Justin Bailey” code from the original Metroid (or Zero Suit Mission but honestly who cares?).
I honestly wish I could get mad over this, but I’m frankly just sick and tired of this kinda crap. I already apparently “offended” people with my rants about her ugly ass high-heel-boots several months ago, and I don’t wish to go through with that again. Not to mention there does come a point where complaining about “fanservice” in a game ALL ABOUT FANSERVICE becomes kinda... gauche.
Just for the record though, I am not against this outfit per say. There is nothing wrong with wearing sports
Goodbye Comments SectionSo I finally bit the bullet and disabled comments on all my artwork. I had been thinking about doing it for a while now, and after conducting a poll and seeing an overwhelming support of doing it, I decided to finally act upon it. Deviations I submit will no longer have comments. Journals and my FrontPage will because I can’t disable those (trust me, I would’ve disabled my FrontPage comment section YEARS ago if I could. That place is a cesspool).Goodbye Comments Section5 months ago in Personal More Like This
The reasons for disabling comments are pretty simple. I get a lot of hate on the internet and it’s negatively affecting me. I am, I admit, a special case. I likely get more hate than most “famous” DA users do, and as such I have to tailor my needs specifically. I also have been growing very wary about how toxic the DA community can be at times. DA doesn’t police new accounts and it’s very easy for trolls to perpetuate their activities. Blocking doesn’t really DO anything as anyone can just create
Aang Inspired by Invader Zim??YES! Aang, from Avatar: TLA, was indeed inspired by something from Invader Zim!!!!! I am reading a published interview between the creators of Avatar: TLA, Mike DiMartino, and Bryan Konietzko. Bryan used to work as the art director for Invader Zim, and when the show was canceled, he decided not to look for another job--instead, he worked with his partner, Mike, as well as Nickelodeon, to talk about floating a new cartoon for the network. In this interview, Bryan makes the following statement about the Zim/Aang relation:Aang Inspired by Invader Zim??3 years ago in Personal More Like This
"Mike and I went back to square one. We laid out every idea we had on the table indiscriminately, and I dug through every random personal sketch I had done during my time on ZIM. I found a drawing that I barely remembered making, a lineup of three characters: a robot cyclops monkey with an arrow on his head holding a staff, a morose-looking balding human man in his forties wearing a futuristic outfit, and a bipedal polar bear--dog hybrid....... The balding gu

It will be summer soon, and with it come many changes in our club. To begin with, hello everyone! I am your new founder, as the amazing and wonderful RollingTomorrow was so kind to promote me. She's been our founder for so long and she's the reason this club is so large and successful, so a huge thank you to Hikari for everything she's done for us!
We have a few events and features currently. First and foremost, our poetry contest is almost at an end. The deadline has been extended to May 1st, so get in those entries while you still can! Second, we have our writing prompt, which runs on a weekly to biweekly schedule, and produces truly amazing works from our authors. Third, we have... well, nothing.
That's a pity for one of the biggest general literature groups in deviantART. So we're going to liven things up with trial runs of several new programs for the summer:

Vivian James: The Not Mascot MascotVivian James was created by 4chan as part of designing a character for The Fine Young Capitalist’s video game contest thanks to the amount of money they donated to the group. However, despite her original intent of being a video game character, she was quickly adopted by many GamerGate people as a sort of spiritual mascot for their cause. She appears in pro-GamerGate memes, user icons, fanart, etc.Vivian James: The Not Mascot Mascot5 months ago in Personal More Like This
While many don’t want to admit that she’s their mascot, if enough people keep using her to symbolize their struggles and as meme shorthand for their cause... I’m sorry but that’s pretty much the definition of a mascot.
A mascot is any person, animal, or object used to represent a group with a common public identity.
And it’s this reason people need to understand that as a mascot she can represent many things that aren’t part of her loosely defined “character.” Mickey Mouse, for example, is often use
PS4I was wrong and Sony pulled a Nintendo to announce the PS4 way earlier than I anticipated. Of course they will have more details at E3, and they didn't reveal too much about the system, but the fact that they announced it this early was definitely a surprise to me.PS42 years ago in Personal More Like This
They revealed a number of interesting features about the system which, I must admit, are pretty damn amazing. I love the concept of being able to stream your PS4 games on your VITA from anywhere. That's a system selling concept right there, and it kinda beats Nintendo at the whole "play away from the TV with the Wii U pad" idea. (psst! Nintendo! Make an app for the 3DS that streams Wii U games to the console! hurry!)
I also really like the idea of being able to record your gameplay and stream it to people while you're still playing it. I can see that becoming a really big thing for gamers, especially on YouTube where "let's plays" are really popular.
The system also won't block used games, like everyone was fearing it might,
