Get out your Android, iPad, iPhone, or mobile platform of choice, and open the Madefire app. There's a bunch of new things I'd like you to check out.
The sections work like this:
This is 'classic' comic material. No bells, no whistles, just no bullshit, honest comics. (Indie creators and publishers should know we can put their material up within a couple of weeks of sending us a PDF. If your book isn't here you should ask yourself why not?)
This is where we continue to push the medium with a wide variety of cutting edge digital storytelling unique to each book. We also have books from top publishers - those that have had vision and were willing to push the envelope. You can get sucked in for hours.
We also have a deviantART section that features two categories:

Gay Reparative Therapy How Much Do You Know About Reparative Therapy?Gay Reparative Therapy2 years ago in Deviant Events More Like This
In this fervent culture war battle, lines have been drawn, passionate
words exchanged, and sides chosen. However, very few people actually
know what reparative therapy is, whether in theory or practice.
Let’s begin with the theory, which is not scientifically supported: Gay people are genetically predisposed to be sensitive.
The overly sensitive child perceives rejection by his or her same-sex
parent. In a state of conscious or unconscious rebellion, they strike
back at the parent’s rejection by renouncing their gender. It quickly leads to gender variant interests and making opposite sex friends.
This causes a lack of socia

If you GET a distribution deal, you'll be in the long shadow cast by the big companies, buried in a dark corner of a vast monthly catalogue.
If you have no marketing budget, then your only option is to hit message boards, FaceBook, indie-driven comic sites, and by getting hold of a list of the internet comics news sites – they're easy enough to find, you just have to Google them.
If you have created your own book, and your dream is to see it printed, but you have literally no funds and nobody is willing to publish it, there are other great options, such as http://www.lulu.com/blog/tag/print-on-demand/. Here you can upload your entire book having placed it into one of the templates they provide, and you can then order a printed, bound copy direct from them for the price you set for it. Print on demand is an incredible innovation, and like Amazon, they will list your book for anybody to buy, they'll eve

A Guide to Effective TaggingA new method to promote and discover art has been released to the community in the form of Tags! When submitting art, adding relevant tags to your deviations will help viewers discover art of interest to them and give your work more exposure.A Guide to Effective Tagging6 months ago in DeviantArt Announcements More Like This
You can add tags based on a variety of things, be it subject matter, themes, medium used, fandom, or anything else you feel is important.
Use these tips to make the most of tags and help your art to find its audience:
Keep it simple. The less complicated the tag, the easier your art is to discover.
Be specific. If you take a picture of a rose, tagging it as #flower, while correct, won’t get your art as much attention as tagging it #rose will. You can, of course, tag both.
Tag efficiently. If your art is based on Lord of the Rings, tag it #LordOfTheRings and/or #lotr. You don’t need to tag every combination — t
Pokemon X and Y Shiny Hunting TipsA few people has asked me how I've managed to get these shinies in a short amount of time, I'll make this journal just to give you guys some tips.Pokemon X and Y Shiny Hunting Tips1 year ago in Personal More Like This
Tip, lol yes, giving tips to NPCs in game.
There has been rumors going around that tipping NPCs increases shiny rates.
I find this rumor to be true. Before I found out about this rumor had had been constantly going on shiny hunts with no luck. It was until after I began tipping I ran into my first shiny, which was slugma. It seems the more times you tip the higher the shiny rate goes up.
I do not know if the amount you tip affects the shiny rate differently, all I can say is that every time I tip, I tip 1000.
There are several locations you can tip NPCs

I Got Angry! Pt.4 (Furious Interlude!)I was wondering to myself if I was STILL angry about things, even after all these years - and honestly? I really am!I Got Angry! Pt.4 (Furious Interlude!)9 months ago in Personal More Like This
Actually - I'm f**king pissed-off!!!
You'll be hard-pressed to find an artist that isn't!
We're over a barrel. We're art monkeys. We're work-for-hire engines that spit out the creations of others as best we can, striving to gain enough prominence to sustain an ongoing living, dreaming of a legacy.
We face hatred, the bitter barbs of trolls, the cruel dismissal of subjectivity, unfair comparisons with our peers.
We have to navigate taste, culture, the need for relevance.
We have to beat our way past the legions of others after the same job.
We have to remain immune to the jealous mutterings of those that fall along the way.
It SUCKS being a part of the machine, the self-serving circle of an industry consuming itself because it doesn't know any better. It's stuck in an ancient cycle, a rotating dance that is literally going nowhere!
So yes. I'm f**k

Anger and frustration.
That's what started it all!
I'm not somebody that feels entitled. I don't expect anything from the world, or anybody in it. That said, I did feel I had earned a fair hearing. I'd put in the years, drawn the BIG books, and the cool ones! I thought I should, by rights, be able to get at least one pitch for a creator-owned comic written and drawn by me off the ground. But though I must have pitched upwards of 30 titles across the board over a period of TEN YEARS, nothing landed.
So yes. I was angry and frustrated!
I was asked, by the very excellent Joseph Michael Linsner, what Madefire was all about a couple of weeks ago, following the Big Wow Comic Fest. It was a good question, as it pointed out a gap in our message, something people were perhaps not getting:
Why do it?
What was the need?
The need was to create a platform for the digital age on which creat
I Got Angry! Pt.3I'm not an angry guy. I'm very mild-mannered. But there's SO MUCH I wish I had known up front, before I got into comics. There are rudimentaries that I'm kind of angry nobody clearly pointed out before I got in too deep.I Got Angry! Pt.39 months ago in Personal More Like This
Nobody tells you that in the mainstream, as an artist, you'll almost certainly be drawing stuff you're NOT prepared for, and don't really have any desire to do or passion for.
Are you hearing this? It's REALLY a big one:
You'll almost certainly be drawing stuff you're NOT prepared for, and don't really have any desire to do or passion for.
What does that mean? What are you saying Sharpie? How can that be right?
Well - and this is from experience - you won't generally get to draw or write the book you're most suited to.
Classic example: I've been trying to get a Conan gig my whole career - a book I'm so clearly suited to it's unreal, and pretty much every artist I know has said as much! - and yet, even after all this time (27 years
I Got Angry - recap! So, having gotten all riled up about publishing, I wanted to do a recap, and see what ground we covered:I Got Angry - recap!9 months ago in Personal More Like This
My first angry post was all about 'why' - why do it? What was the motivation? Why was I so bloody angry? And what was I doing about it?
Part 2 was about identity - who are you? What should you know about yourself and the industry if you really want to get serious about it?
http://techgnotic.deviantart.com/ wrote as part of his amazing response: 'But I think there comes a time when the whole system becomes so exhausted from mindless repetition that a certain cynicism becomes the only form of true enlightenment and what we loved about our artistic obsessions gets forgotten.'
http://deevelliott.deviantart.com/ also had some strong thoughts, including 'you have to bite your lip when f**ked up the arse and treated like you don't matter, better still sm

Getting into comics is something a lot of people want to know how to do, but there's a lot of questions you want to ask yourself first. There is such a vast array of genre and sub-genre, technique, approach, and so on, that it's important to be clear where you want to go with your work at the outset – and you have to be REALLY honest and tough on yourself.
Do you want to draw:
If you're into the capes and tights and you want to go mainstream you're going to have to want it incredibly badly, as the competition is the most extreme I've ever known it right now. There seems to be more titles than ever - and with the digital revolution more people are capable of producing sleek, mainstream quality art - but right across the

Why can't artist's be EXPECTED to experiment? To try new things? To be innovative?
Why is it that drawing in the same style forever is viewed as THE BEST approach?
How do we unlearn this?
How do we encourage creators to be daring, and our readers to be more open and daring too?
I admit it.
I chop and I change, and if you're looking for a book that is consistent then you'd better not invest any time in me! As a result I've lost many fans over the years. People at cons sometimes say 'where did you go after The Hulk? I thought you must have left the industry...'
They never knew I was always here, but always changing.
Case in point - 'Captain Stone is Missing...' (FREE on dA here: www.deviantart.com/art/Captain…) may be, in my opinion, the best work of my career, but consistent it is not!!!
For me there are artists tha
Snake Vs. Edward... or not?Just got back from a week long vacation.... Well earned I might say. We had a blast!!Snake Vs. Edward... or not?2 years ago in Personal More Like This
Then when I opened up DA... What the heck happened in that last week?!
Snake was featured on Konami's FB pages.... GoNintendo... Kotaku, I mean what the heck?! All those messages and all those compliments!!! I had never expected anything like that. Snake beat Edward in terms of views here on DA and also in media attention. I was shocked. I did Snake for me, I love the MGS series. However there is no new game coming out (MGS 5, but that is not as hyped as Assassin's Creed) so I never expected this kind of exposure... So much even that people have decided to make money on my work.
Check this out, on Amazon you can buy an I-Phone thingy with my picture on it... 15 bucks... I DID NOT AUTHORIZE THAT!!! If anyone knows what to do about something like that, please let me know....
Anyways, Edward went up to 2000, maybe 3000 views. Amazing, but not incredible compared to some of the views and reactions I have

Want to learn anatomy? If anatomy's been one of those areas you've known you need to work on but it's just too much of a pain to work through all those tedious textbooks, I would recommend checking out this resource: http://www.memrise.com/course/87415/artistic-anatomy/Want to learn anatomy?2 years ago in Personal More Like This
I haven't gone all the way through it so I can't vouch for it in its entirety, but it looks like a good, user-friendly way to take bite-sized chunks of learning anatomy! Now, knowing the bones and muscles isn't all that's required to draw great figures, but knowing what pieces exist and being able to name them helps you remember that they're there and you can be more specific when you draw and study.
If you enjoy this and want to dig in to anatomy and figure construction even deeper, I'd recommend checking out this book list: http://www.marshallart.com/reviews/anatomyHuman/
