Sam Kane and Damian Wayne trudged along a woodland path near Wayne Manor. Their dogs, Titus and Barkley, followed.
"We are NOT lost!" grumbled Damian.
"It's cold, and it's wet, and I want to go home!"
"It's just a walk in the woods."
"Well I can't be on patrol and I don't want to be cooped up in the Cave!"
"That's a first!"
Damian glowered at Sam, the younger boy was looking cranky. He was also pulling burrs out of Barkley's fur and the shaggy dog was struggling. "You need the exercise!"
"I exercise enough, Damian! Now we're going to be stuck out here until morning..."
">TT< The Manor is this way!"
"You said that three intersections ago...why does your dad have these many paths?!"
"For running and skiing."
Sam wrapped his coat around him, it was an October night, with a large moon overhead. But the manor was not seen. A low sound was heard in the woods. Barkley and Titus started growling. "There's something here...."

PROLOGUE: IN THE BEGINNING
Once upon a time, in another universe, there was darkness.
It was the era before reality became defined, at the point before existence that constitutes all came to be, in the time before the very concept of Time itself existed, when the Universe was anything BUT.
There was nothing, nothing but an absolute, lifeless darkness that stretched infinitely in all directions.
And for a time, it was the way things were.
Then, at an unspecified point of history, a spark was struck, either by design, or accident.
And there was Light.
It was WHITE Light of Creation. In later days that point of history would come to be known in many names: Genesis, The Big Bang, the Dawn of Time, the Carving of the Heavens, Alpha, the Beginning of Everything, and so on.
The absolute darkness in the universe was replaced by the Light, and for a while, it filled all of reality with its brilliance.
From this beginn

It wasn't very often when Sirius woke up early; the only times that ever happened were either for Quidditch practice, Christmas morning, or his birthday. When his sleep addled mind finally remembered what today was, he jumped out of bed and onto James's. "Wake up!" he cried happily, carefully jumping on the foot of the bed – he wasn't a short 11 year old anymore. "It's my birthday!"
"Go back to bed, Padfoot," James groaned from underneath his bedcovers and tried to kick Sirius's feet from under him. But Sirius was too quick for him and easily dodged the feet that were trying to stop his excitement. James knew there was only one thing that could stop Sirius when he was like this, though, and it always worked. "Moony! Make him stop!"
A groan came from the other boy's bed but that was the only response James got. He should have known better, Remus wasn't normally a morning person so soon after a full moon. So, with that in mind, Jame

Real Gift for Moony
A loud banging noise from the other side of the door woke Remus up suddenly early one morning. The clock beside the bed said it was a little after 8 and when he rolled over in hopes of falling back to sleep, Remus realized he was all alone.
"Shush, Padfoot!" he heard Harry stage whisper from the door way. Because the shade was still drawn over the window, the only source of real light came through the crack as the little five year-old and Sirius tiptoed in.
"Sorry, pup," the black haired man whispered back, and when he shifted, Remus could hear a clink from something moving in his hands.
While he thought about why they were sneaking into his room so early, he realized what day it was. Remus chuckled silently and reveled in the fact that the two of them stopped when he rolled onto his back in feigned sleep.

"Hey!" Sirius cried when a backpack flew past him into the trunk of the car. He turned around with a glare to find his best friend already walking away. "That could have severely hurt me!"
"Only your ego!" James called back with a laugh and continued into the house they shared. Sirius grumbled under his breath as he shoved the dark green bag to the side so there would be room for the other stuff.
Remus and Peter were bringing the equipment from the school and he was told it would take a lot of space. Remus had sent him a text message the night before with the list of all the items they were bringing so he knew how much room was going to be needed.

In the darkness, Padfoot sprinted through the snow as fast as his four legs could take him. Moony crashed through some fallen branches as he chased after the black dog, barking a few times for an unknown reason.
Just up ahead Padfoot could see a hollowed out log (like the one in the Muggle cartoon shows he watched at Remus' when they were younger) and realized it was just small enough for him to fit through. He dodged a few rocks and more branches before scurrying into the log, knowing Moony couldn't fit.
He crawled on his stomach until he was in the very middle, knowing he was unreachable. There was a loud thump and then Padfoot heard the werewolf's low growl. A few minutes went by and then Padfoot heard scratching from behind him, Moony was trying to get in.
Padfoot chuckled in his head and slowly crawled forward again, trying his hardest to stay quiet. Moony was still

Remus had been lucky enough to get to Platform 9 ¾ early enough to find an empty compartment. There were a few other students already on the train but the majority of them were still saying goodbye to their families and greeting their old friends. It would have been nice to spend some more time with his parents but something had come up at the place his father worked and they had to leave early.
Not that Remus really minded, it was also nice having this compartment to himself. While he was extremely excited to actually be going to Hogwarts, he was equally as nervous.

Remus was upstairs and any minute now the full moon would make the normally sweet boy change into a blood thirsty monster. But that's not why Peter was nervous then, he was worried about what they were going to do that night.
Sirius shrugged his shoulders but threw the tiny Gryffindor a smirk. "Is Wormtail losing his nerve?"
Peter glared at him and straightened up. Before he could try saying anything back, Remus screamed out in pain above them. "Fun time, boys," James said seconds before changing into a stag.

The students didn't play outside that long. After all, there was still breakfast to be had and presents to be opened. Since they'd been outside so long, everyone ended up wanting to eat first. As soon as they entered the Great Hall, they were met with their second 'present.'
Whenever a student walked into the large hall, a small, floating Christmas companion followed them to their seats. Some of them were snowmen, a few were snowflakes with faces, and there were a couple of gingerbread men. At first, everyone was a little wary of them; it was the Marauders and even first years knew the things they were capable of.
But, to everyone's surprise – including the professors that stayed behind – the floating Christmas decorations didn't do anything. Well, actually, they didn't do anything bad.
Once everyone was seated and had food on their plates, the little floating things started to quietly sing Muggle Chris

Fun in the Snow
Their plan didn't take effect until Christmas morning. As soon as Remus deemed it the right time, the Marauders set off little alarms at the entrance of the three other Houses. James was in the middle of the Gryffindor common room, Peter waited patiently outside the Hufflepuff entrance, Sirius was forced to climb the stairs to the Ravenclaw common room, and Remus headed down to the dungeons to wake the lone Slytherin.
The alarms were creations of Remus's which would only work once – and he had no intention of making any more – and would wake up any living person close by. After each of teens had set them off, they were to convince the student to go to the grounds.
It wasn't hard to get the Hufflepuffs, Ravenclaws, or the young Gryffindor boy to head outside with them. Remus had no luck convincing the sixth year Slytherin to go and gave up with he was threatened with a rather nasty hex.
The only reason why Lily even went was
