Difference between selling Art and selling MeatGreetings Ryceballs. Today I am gonna be talking about the differences between selling art and selling meat.Difference between selling Art and selling Meat1 year ago in Personal More Like This
It is absolutely fascinating how different the two can be! :iconyoudontsayplz: ... Well first of all, an artist likes their work to be appreciated and let the audience see for themselves whether they want to buy their artwork or not. While a butcher (ESPECIALLY ASIAN ONES LIKE THE ONE IN THE ARTWORK) only cares about selling the meat and making the profit, they have no sentimental feelings towards what they are selling, because if they do then there won't be any meat to sell right? One of the main rule of a butcher is to have no emotional attachment towards the animals, because they know sooner or later the animal needs to be chopped up. Well what about artists? Well they put their blood, sweat and tears into their artwork to make it as pretty as possible, all in hopes that the audiences would enjoy their art as much as the artist enjoy making them. NOW here's the thing thoug
Creative Near-Sightedness. Do you have it?Thanks to a brief comment recently made by a friend, it spurred me into coining the phrase 'Creative Near-Sightedness' to describe something I've battled with and continue to battle with, throughout my journey. I hope that this might make some sense to others out there and shed some similar light on your situation like it has mine.Creative Near-Sightedness. Do you have it?2 years ago in Personal More Like This
I have achieved some of the big goals I've set myself in life, but have always had trouble with achieving some of the more creative goals, due to the fact that, they are often rather ambiguous to begin with, for example:
How do you quantify / visualize a goal like 'I want to be a good artist' when being good is completely relative?
So firstly I want to break it down into a couple of things that might seem simple commonsense, but in my case something I need to constantly remind myself of:
The first thing is: Keep the major goal clear and simple!
Something you can understand and describe to someone simply when they ask you 'but what actually is it?'
Holiday Card Project 2012 Wrap-UpHoliday Card Project 2012 Wrap-Up2 years ago in DeviantART Announcements More Like This
After a 3 year absence, the Holiday Card Project returned in 2012 and was more successful than ever! Over 2500 deviants from 60 countries participated this year, with more than 3500 cards received. With such an excellent response, we wanted to ensure we were spreading the love as much as possible. We asked for volunteers to help distribute cards to their local hospitals, and with the extra assistance of a few super deviants, we were able to distribute cards to 23 hospitals around the world!
Most hospitals were comfortable taking the cards and distributing them to patients on food trays or through hospital volunteers. While we aren't always able to interact
How to Write an Artist's (or Author's) CommentsNearly all of us, if not every single one of us, have come across a deviation that just has a disappointing '...'. Conversely, some of us have even come across a massive wall of text. How to Write an Artist's (or Author's) Comments5 years ago in Art Features More Like This
Whether we are the people who ask ourselves, "Is that it?", or whether we are the people who ask ourselves, "What can I say?", this guide will hopefully provide you with some insight in how to go about writing a good description for your deviations, a.k.a. your Artist's (or Author's) Comments.
IIIXII has already written a beautiful guide here. He mentions a great point and that is that your artists comments are the only thing that might motivate a reader or viewer to comment your work
How many of us want constructive comments, critiques and, most importantly, feedback on our pieces?
Thus, is it only fair that if we want something back, we have to give something as well?

My name is Samuel Isaac Dealey. You can call me Ike.
I've been on DA since 2007 and am primarily a webcomic author. Because DA has been so good to me, I'd like to pay forward some of the success I've had here by helping some other webcomic artists get more exposure. Sometimes really great artists go essentially unnoticed because, lets face it, we're not all great self-marketers. If we were, then wouldn't we be sales people?
is a series of interviews with dedicated webcomic authors who I think deserve a bit more exposure than they're getting. The idea for the name "Gutter Stars" came to me while I was thinking about comics. What do comics have? They have panels and gutters... and then I remembered this quote from Oscar Wilde.
If you'd like to see more interviews with other webcomic authors, please favorite and share this article in your blogs or journals!

THE NEXT THREE YEARS OF MY LIFE
I had received a job offer at Microsoft. I guess this could have been one of my first 'big time' jobs, so I was a little ecstatic. It felt like a slow build to get to this point, after numerous indie games and under the table freelance jobs, but finally it had come.
I was working with my now best friend and business partner, Stephan, a suave German who I had met only a year or so prior. He had brought me into the fray, working with several other individuals who will, well, simply be known as individuals for privacy sake.
But yes, finally, I could put a professional company I
5 days left...It's been 10 years since I've packed a single bag without hesitation and left home, full of dreams of love and big world, enthusiastic about finally being an adult - at least officially. At that time, I haven't considered feelings of my mother and father much, seeing me going away with such thrill, I didn't think they would miss me anyway, the apartment was so small with all five of us in it and everyone too full of their own worlds to care for mine. I wouldn't need anything, some clothes, books, my earring collection and a clay cup my boyfriend gave me for birthday. I was 18, of course I was the smartest of all and in no need for other opinions. My boyfriend was six years older and I adored every piece of him for the whole time of our relationship.5 days left...2 years ago in Personal More Like This

Negative remarks on your art:As you move through the art world you will come upon many people who have opinions on your work and unfortunately some may be negative or extremely mean spirited. But if there is anything I could advise on this matter is that not letting a few nay sayers get to you is just part of becoming a successful artist. Don’t let it stop you, or deter your improvement. Your art is an extension of you, no matter how “good” or “bad” you may be. Hold it dear to you like you do your beliefs, gender, family. It’s all there for your own pleasure and feeling of self worth and pride and no one should be able to snuff that out or stop you from continuing what makes you a wonderfully artistic person on their own journey through life.Negative remarks on your art:6 months ago in Personal More Like This
Get your Art some Attention on deviantARTFive basic tips to get your Art some Attention, Appreciation & Audience on deviantARTGet your Art some Attention on deviantART3 years ago in Art Features More Like This
Here's some tips that may not get you a consistent spot on the front page right away, but that will definitely help getting some watchers and friends, whether you already have some, or not.
First, let me make clear that this is only about 'good' attention – if you just want, say, a certain pageview count, there are probably better ways. This article is for those who would like some people to take them serious as an artist and to actively watch them.
Also note that you needn't follow all of the tips below, but it's recommendable to follow at least 3 of them. Just one or two will not usually get you very far.
So here we go! :iconeagerpee:
Submit art regularly.
Try to find a balance between quality and quantity. Personally I think it's best to submit one or a couple of dev

The Passing of Ray HarryhausenFew people outside of film geekdom and kaiju fan circles seem to know just how important a figure Ray Harryhausen has been to the art of cinema and special effects. The mastermind behind the modeling and stop-motion animation effects of films like CLASH OF THE TITANS, THE 7TH VOYAGE OF SINBAD, JASON AND THE ARGONAUTS, and the film that is said to have influenced GOJIRA's production more than any other, THE BEAST FROM 20,000 FATHOMS, has passed away at the ripe age of 92.The Passing of Ray Harryhausen2 years ago in Personal More Like This
Ray lead a hell of a long, fruitful life. He gave us all so very, very much, and now is not so much a time for mourning as it is a time for remembrance and celebration of a life well lived.
Many will recall that my first full one-shot comic was WRATH OF THE TITANS: CYCLOPS, a tribute to Harryhausen's immortal imagining of the Cyclops. Ergo, Ray had a special place in my heart.
My friend and writer Richard has penned a nice article on Harryhausen, in which he includes a brief recounting of my own meeting with the specia

Korrasami is Canon: ConfirmedAvatar series creators Bryan Konietzko and Mike DiMartino both confirmed today via their personal blogs that Avatar Korra and Asami are actually a romantic bisexual couple.Korrasami is Canon: Confirmed3 days ago in Personal More Like This
I’ve taken a lot of heat over the past couple of days for celebrating the ending as being very progressive. A lot of people seemed quite adamant that Korra and Asami were just good friends and there was nothing romantically intentional about the ending at all. Some even going so far to say that my comment about the bi-sexual flag colored mountains was “reading too much into it.”
But y’all can suck it now! Cuz it’s CONFIRMED!
And if you’re just being lazy and don’t wanna read those excellently written blog posts, here’s a couple choice snippets:

The emotional shield that prevents hurt.Being an artist = Being sensitive. The emotional shield that prevents hurt.5 months ago in Personal More Like This
We all know it. Making something and then showing it out there makes you very vulnerable, emotionally.
What if people think it's shit? What if they think it's weird... what will they think? Will that reflect on how they think of me as a person?
I know what some of you are thinking right now... 'You should care less about what people think of you or you art.'
In a sense you are right.. than again, you SHOULD care what people think of you and your art! They are your market and potential clients.
It's easier when you're already doing your dream job and couldn't care less for other potential directions... but most of us will always stay interested in new opportunities.
They= Everyone who see your personality and/or artwork.
Being an artist = Being lonely.
Artists of a certain type tent to stick together. Industry veterans seems to ignore the public eye and the internet fully. Some artists in the making clut
