SPIKE updatesJust thought I'd share with you guys some updates on the progress of finishing my "SPIKE" novel.SPIKE updates1 year ago in Personal More Like This
A lot of people have asked me how it's going, when it will be published and stuff. I really appreciate getting asked these things because it shows that people are actually interested in my writings, and that it just such a great feeling
I've got two news for you guys today though: one bad news and one good news. Let's start with the bad news.
I haven't finished writing SPIKE yet.
And I honestly don't know when it will be finished - which oddly enough brings us to the good news:
I've made a new, major decision in the SPIKE story that I think a lot of you will be happy to hear. As usual I don't want to spoil too much, but there is a part in the story where Spike and Sam are separated from each other for quite a long while. At first I was planning on only writing from Spike's point of view, like, what he's experiencing during this separation period. I figured that since he's the main cha
To all you aspiring artistsI just felt like giving a little motivational speech, based on some questions and feedback I've gotten from young, aspiring artists. To all you aspiring artists1 year ago in Personal More Like This
Some of you say you look at my art and get inspired, and I just love hearing that because that's just what I want; to be able to inspire! It also inspires be back, because I know very well how it's like to work your butt off and not feeling you're getting anywhere. And I can relate when some of you say you actually lose all motivation when you see my work (or others' work, of course), because you feel you could never reach that same "level". I was there too, I've felt just like you guys! I have also had the nagging feeling that my art might not be good enough, but those thoughts are all stupid. Yeah, they are. I'll be rude enough to say that right now.
Art can be very frustrating in your "growth period", if I can call it that. And while being your own worst critic can help you grow, it can also tear you down and destroy everything called 'motivation'. So
Anthropomorphic animals =/= furriesI'd like to take a moment to discuss this topic.Anthropomorphic animals =/= furries4 months ago in Personal More Like This
There's a lot of controversy about what 'furry' means. It doesn't really have a set definition.
Anthropomorphic is a definition for anything with human features. Anything, like a toaster. So, all furries are anthro, but not all anthros are furries. Some artists dismiss this term, and some use it.
I don't think it's okay to call other people's anthro characters for furries unless they do so themselves. They might resent the term, therefore it would come as an insult to them - it does to me.
Well, the furry community has a bad reputation.
On sites such as FurAffinity, which is dedicated to anthropomorphic animals, has an ocean of pornographic content which range from clean to what-the-fuck-eww. People who draw and commission these kinds of things usually refer to themselves as furries. Their characters usually do not have properly developed personalities (some purely consisting of slut

Seriously, you guys all mean so much to me, and I'm not just saying that! I really mean it!
Ok, I've probably said this before; but if it hadn't been for you guys, the SPIKE novel and that whole project of mine might not have been continued at all. And, well, yes, I know I haven't uploaded anything in forever, but I never gave up on the novel, I kept on working on it, figuring out details, planning the future chapters, editing, and so on.. and that's all thanks to you guys and the feedback you've given me!
I am truly grateful for that. I really, really am...!
And I'm sorry for not replying to all of your lovely comments, notes and such... I do read it all though, and I appreciate it all, and I wish I had the time to actually reply to every single message I get from you, but it's not all that easy.... But as said, I read them all, and I love all the love you'
just......this is probably stupid to write a journal about but, I'm writing more SPIKE chapters now, and I'm literally in tears at the moment. Not like 'lol that's funny, I'm in tears!', but like 'fudge, who's cutting all these onions?! ;_; *sniff* "just...3 months ago in Personal More Like This
And when I cry over a scene, a scene that I wrote myself - I mean, I never get this emotional over things I write! I had to just stop writing it for a while, because I'm at mum's place right now, and I don't want her to find me crying when she wakes up
I wish I could share this with someone XD
aw well... I'm writing again, though, so that's a good thing
Things seem to sort of connect more in the SPIKE story now, and I'm generally starting to feel, for once, that this could actually turn out to be a good story.
I just have to write everything down...
I have a big notebook that's almost full of plot details and such, then there's all the notes I have in my head. I just need to find the time to write chapters out of it
SPIKE updates - nov2013Yesh, it's about time I gave you guys an update on the progress of my novel, "SPIKE".SPIKE updates - nov201310 months ago in Personal More Like This
I've gotten a lot of notes and comments asking when the book will be finished, how far I've come in the writing process, or how many chapters there are so far, and so forth... And I love getting questions like that, because that means people are interested in my work, many of which say they even love my work, and.. just wow, I mean, I'm completely honest when I say that it means a whole lot to me. And I'm serious when I say that without the support from you guys (you all know who you are <3 ), I would never have bothered continuing the SPIKE story. I would probably just have posted chapter 0, deleted it, and stuffed it all in a drawer and possibly even given up on the whole story-teller dream. Feedback is very important to me, which sounds very selfish, I know, but I used to be incredibly insecure of myself and everything I did. I had this dream of becoming a cartoonist to have my stories told, and
an introduction to my Anthro universe.. :PI got a question the other day, about what dog breed Sam and Saunders in their anthro form is supposed to be.an introduction to my Anthro universe.. :P2 years ago in Personal More Like This
I started answering the comment, but soon found out it would just end up being a looooong reply... And I thought, as I wrote, that maybe others would be interested in what breed they and their relatives are, as well as Spike's breed, some character origins, how the people (or anthro) in my little fictive universe views their fellow inhabitants, and a bit of history around this whole thing.
Therefore, I'm deciding on writing a journal entry about this.
The different breeds.
Saunders and Sam were originally, when I first created and designed them, supposed to be Golden Retrievers. Thus, they did in fact both have floppy, furry ears just like the Golden has. For some reason, I felt this made the characters look sad, so I changed - I think - Saunders' ears first to stand up just like a Terrier's ears. Sam's ears changed shortly after. I kept this change as I thought it ma

SPIKE stickers?I've actually had this idea for a while, but never thought seriously about actually doing something with that idea..SPIKE stickers?3 months ago in Personal More Like This
I was thinking... Would anyone be interested in buying stickers of my characters?
4 or 5 inch tall stickers of each character, probably even with three or more versions of some of the characters (like kid Sam, young teen Sam, older teen Sam). The characters would be drawn in a chibi-like style.. not like the ones I previously drew that had really creepy, hollow eyes... But more like the Cain paperchild I made, or the Spike paperchild with the christmas hat.
Hang on, I'll find them...
This type of chibi-style and with white edges around them (because personally I think the white edge would make it look pretty neat). Perhaps a wider edge though, but something like this.
The stickers would be of high quality. I've already found a company that prints stickers in any size and shape, in high

I've taken some photos of him with my cellphone. I'll take some better photos of him with my camera later. But I uploaded those cellphone photos to my Photobucket account in a public folder, so hopefully you'll be able to see him here:
(I hope the link works.. )
He's made of soft 'minky' fabric, and faux 'luxury shag' fur for his hair - which is very easy to style; no need for hair gel
He's approximately 20 cm tall from toe to ear. He has small buttons for eyes, and he's just very soft and cuddly

You changed, dA. You're not the same anymore. I don't know what messed up... You don't love me anymore, that's it? Please be honest.
Even that journal, I'm not sure if it's gonna go through or not.
Being Alive is Fucking AwesomeDo you feel that, in your lungs? Close your eyes and take a deep breath, and fill your fucking lungs because you are lucky enough to do that.Being Alive is Fucking Awesome8 months ago in Personal More Like This
Do you feel, in your chest, that little thump that means you are oh-so-very alive? Cherish that. Count those beats. It means you are fucking here. It means that whatever you have gone through in your life, you are still here.
Close your eyes and fucking listen. Find the melody in your life and fucking sing. I want you all to have to take long, deep breaths after talking, each time, because I don't want you to be able to shut up about how fucking good it feels to be alive.
If you think about everyone in this world who is still kicking, your accomplishments may seem small. But if your heart is beating, if you can fill your lungs, and if you can fucking scream that you are okay... well, that's the biggest accomplishment of all.
Take every ounce of shit life hands you with a smile because no matter what, you are breathing. Your heart is

Of Getting An Art Major
A heated argument broke out in my house this afternoon.
I live in a rental situation, renting a large room (with my own bathroom and workspace, real nice setup) in a Filipino household. Love my landlord, get along great with the other housemates, but to emphasize the 'Filipino' aspect of the living situation, there's a lot of family taking residence here. And with family, with teenage offspring, with high standards and expectations from the older immigrant generation speaking upon the younger American-born kin, tension is inevitable.
The daughter of one of the housemates is loo
[OVER] CONTEST TIME! Let's Draw Rory!I've decided to throw together a little contest for you guys! Here's how it's gonna go down:[OVER] CONTEST TIME! Let's Draw Rory!3 months ago in Personal More Like This
First off, let me explain what the contest actually is. Since I'm heading to Anthrocon this year, I'm going to take Rory down with me because I mean, come on, who can handle that much cute? The thing is I don't have any badges of him at all... so that's where the contest comes in!
Anyone who wants to enter this contest just has to do these things:
Draw a badge of Rory! I don't care what style or theme, go crazy! Full body, bust, square, circle, pentagon... what ever you want Here's a ref for you guys:
I'll take care of the printing and laminating of the badge after the contest, so don't worry about that. Just upload the digital file (which leads me to the next step...)
COMMENT ON THIS JOURNAL with a link to your badge entry! I'll make a folder in my favorites specifically for

IS ART SCHOOL BAD?? 0_OBTW THIS IS LONG ASS POST , BUT ENCOURAGE YOU TO READ THIS IS IF YOU ARE A PERSON CONSIDERING ART FOR A CAREERIS ART SCHOOL BAD?? 0_O1 year ago in Personal More Like This
EDIT: I ADDED NUMBER 3 IN CAUSE THAT WAS KIND OF AN IMPORTANT LESSON TOO. HAHA
Usually I am pretty quiet when it comes to the community and its dealings with drama . But I feel like I have to write my two cents about this topic.
A lot of people have been throwing around this post around about how art schools are terrible and are not worth it ya. I am sure you can find the article somewhere if you just google it . Though everyone is entitled to their own opinion I feel that I should talk about both sides of the coin when it comes to art school.
Now I have went to art school , and have done well for myself , I have worked internationally and worked for some big companies , and currently at the moment I actually teach at an art school as well.
SO THE ULTIMATE QUESTION: IS ART SCHOOL A WASTE OF TIME?
WELL THERE IS NO BLACK AND WHITE ANSWER
What I believe is that art school i
''I would like to draw like you.''Or paint. Or sculpt. Or sew.''I would like to draw like you.''9 months ago in Personal More Like This
The point is that how many, many times that phrase appears, in some form, im many, many artist's comments. Times after times. And well why not, it's a compliment.
People like different styles, no one can be master in everything. This why we like to look around and admire how other people do something. We admit it because we can't do it exactly the same.
The problem is if a person starts looking around too much, and finally becomes completely blind for their own style, and in worst case, quits art. Comparing self to others and trying to be EXACTLY like them is something that basically just kills something, be it your developing style, nerves or self-confidence.
What I noticed a while ago when I was "surfing" in dA. I went through random people's pages, looking at their faves and picking interesting looking ones, and thus going a next page. Popularity (or namely pageviews as little as they can be called measurement of popularity) went up, until there was a pe
Plushie update (photos!)As mentioned earlier today, I went to a hobby store to buy some fabric. Turns out they had the minky fabric I needed to create a Spike plushie, even black faux fur for his hair. The only thing that's a bit off is his tail, which is a gray faux fur fabric that's a lot darker than the light gray minky fabric that's used for his body and such..Plushie update (photos!)2 years ago in Personal More Like This
Anyways, I got the fabric, and was surprised that it didn't cost as much as first predicted, and it will probably last to a fair amount of plushies.
So, I've just finished the "prototype" version of the Spike plushie
I've got photos!
Here's a bunch of links:

Apologies for missing out on the CritStop last week. I was at a weekend long concept-design workshop which didn't leave me with much time to do a post.
I might run down some of the things we did in the workshop in a future post, but this week I thought I would do something a little bit different. I have been getting quite a few queries over the last few weeks about making the choice between formal training courses such as university or college over that of self-teaching and using online resources and short courses. One of these was Nyte-Tyme who wrote:
"I mentioned before that I am currently attending a school called ------- University. So far, my first semester of a Junior year here has been bad. Art history classes (which I think are somewhat necessary) a Physics of Light and Color class. A web design class and a video and audio class which was essentially a film class after awhile.
