The Manga & Anime gallery is full of so many lovely pieces of art; You want to create your own M/A art. That's great! ...You have no clue where to get started though. Not to worry, for as there is a ton of great art in this gallery, there is just about as many great tutorials on how to create it.
For your convenience, I've compiled a list of tutorials on various aspects of the M/A art creation process. This list is by no means comprehensive, but it's a good place to begin.
Learning proper anatomy is fundamental to the creation of any style of art.

Thinking in 3DA number of my watchers asked me to turn this journal into a news article:Thinking in 3D6 years ago in Art Features More Like This
What I'd like to talk about is a trick that has helped me to become better at 2D art. I'm sure many of you have heard that it's always better to draw from real life and from a model, and that tracing doesn't help you learn, but I don't know if anyone's ever explained why. I don't think anyone has ever told me. So I'm going to discuss how to make the best of different reference resources in order to get more out of drawing practice by thinking of your figure(s) in three dimensions.
When we make a drawing, painting, or any kind of 2D artwork, we're breaking down a 3D image onto a 2D plane. Even cartoons are representing a 3D object; it's just been taken further from a realistic painting to its barest structure.
This is an important thing to keep in mind while practicing drawing because it becomes a habit, especially for those people who like to dr

Thank you so much for doing this interview, could you tell us a bit about yourself?
To tell the truth, I always become a little confused when it comes to describing who I actually am (my personality). So, my name is Evelin, I study journalism at Moscow State University. Apart from my commitment to culinary, I have a real passion for foreign languages (I’m learning Japanese and Korean), martial arts and I pleasure in the company of different odd-birds. Can get along without sleep or food for a few days when finding

As we all know from the movie My Big Fat Greek Wedding everything was invented by the Greeks.
Well, ok we left some trivial things to be invented by the Chinese as well.
What you may not know is that Street photography was also invented by the Greeks before Photography itself was even invented.
Kairos is an ancient Greek word meaning the right or opportune moment or "the supreme moment". The Greeks believed the concept of Kairos is achieved when such a moment is grasped for otherwise the moment is gone and cannot be re-captured. According to ancient Greeks, Kairos was the god of the “fleeting moment.”
Interestingly the ancient Greeks had two words for time, chronos and kairos. Whi

I spent some time today looking through the new submissions in the PhotoManipulation galleries. I done this in order to gauge what the 'average' user is submitting, and what themes are interesting people.
The majority of submissions were by new practitioners, and what they lacked in technical skill, they more than made up for in imagination! Ive been introduced to a whole new world of eight-breasted animal hybrid women and other exotic curiosities!
With those funky considerations aside, what I have assembled here is some pointers that will assist new PhotoManipulators in their journey of self-improvement. Some of the points here may even be helpful to intermediate manipulators, hopefully there will be something here for everyone.
IMAGE RESOLUTION / CLARITY
The use of lo-quality / lo-res source images is an issue that affects many of the submissions in the PM gallery. Many Deviants may say <em>

is an old idea of mine which has its roots in the The-Yard-Collective group, long before it was even a group. Older deviants remember the time when groups were clubs. I started posting this weekly feature back then, every Friday afternoon, showcasing 7 street shots that had been submitted to the club and had caught my attention during the past week. The feature lasted for a long time, untill I left dA for personal reasons for few months. When I got back in dA and wore the Street CV hat, the idea of reviving this weekly feature came up again vividly. This time my intention was to showcase and promote street shots from all over deviantArt.
Till now, 22 FNSS have been posted, you can find them in my personal account profile page. They average over 1000 pageviews each, and as I've been told by several fellow street shooters, it's a feature worth waiting for, every Friday afternoon. In every FNSS
PhotoManipulation: Lighting TechniquesVISUAL TRICKERYPhotoManipulation: Lighting Techniques5 years ago in Art Features More Like This
One of the great joys of PhotoManipulation is the act of using photographic images and hand-painted elements to fabricate realities. What makes this new art-form so potent is the fact that you can create a sense of realism that in my opinion cant really be matched by other mediums. To attain the level where you can articulate your ideas into photorealistic realities takes a fair amount of practice, but fortunately there are many resources that can assist you get there much much faster than trial and error alone.
When I really started to focus on lighting in my work, the quality of my pieces made a monumental jump. I dont profess to be a lighting expert, this article collates useful information and resources that have helped me in my progression, and can hopefully help you as well. This article is going to be very 'wordy' and may be more appealing to the intermediate / advanced user; however, I would recommend practitioners of all levels to check out the

"Every day, there are more and more Craigs List posts seeking "artists" for everything from auto graphics to comic books to corporate logo designs. More people are finding themselves in need of some form of illustrative service.
But what they're NOT doing, unfortunately, is realizing how rare someone with these particular talents can be.
To those who are "seeking artists", let me ask you; How many people do you know, personally, with the talent and skill to perform the services you need? A dozen? Five? One? none?
More than likely, you don't know any. Otherwise, you wouldn't be posting on craigslist to find them.
And this is not really a surprise.
In this country, there are almost twice as many neurosurgeons as the

A Beginners' Guide to Photo ManipulationWhat is Photo manipulation?A Beginners' Guide to Photo Manipulation7 years ago in Art Features More Like This
According to Wikipedia "Photo manipulation is the application of image editing techniques to photographs in order to create an illusion or deception (in contrast to mere enhancement or correction), through analog or digital means", which means that Photo manipulation is the art of "building" a new picture by setting several others together seamlessly.
With that objective in mind we, photo manipulators, use what are called image editors, like Adobe Photoshop , which is the most commonly used. However, other programs, such as Paint Shop Pro, Corel Painter, Paint.NET, or GIMP, may also be used for that purpose.

So I have been thinking of doing a few articles apart from feature articles to link some useful resources for artists and this is the first one of these. While this is a mini one, it's helped me a lot on several occassions.
Sometimes it gets confusing to decide which colours to choose. "'Should I go with a turquoise and a gold for the face? What about the room? I was going for a chic cool modern palette which is minimalistic!" Surely, a lot of us have gone through those decisive moments. Below are some colour scheme tools that would help you with your colour scheme choices. Click the titles or the links in asterisk to go to the following sites.

More and more people are using Photoshop Actions, whether for photography, photomanipulation, or other style of art you like.
The truth is that these Photoshop Actions improve the final result in many ways and make it easy for you to achieve the most incredible effects.
What are photoshop Actions?
- Photoshop actions are a pre-recorded set of actions done in photoshop to achieve a certain effect. Instead of loosing maybe 1 hour trying to get the perfect contrast, texture, or even more complex effects, just by pressing Play, you have all these steps in 3 seconds.
After I download the Photoshop Actions, how do I install and use them?
- After you download the file, in case it's zipped, you must unzip t first. The file will be something like XXXX.atn. Then you must copy that file and paste it on the Photoshop Actions folder: My Computer > Local Disc > Programs > Adobe > Adobe Photoshop > Presets > Photoshop Actions.
After this procedure, on your Pho
White Roses for an Eternal BondThere is a song, White Rose of Athens, sung by Nana Mouskouri, and with its haunting lyrics, it was one of my mother's favorites. "So goodbye my love till then Till the white rose blooms again" I had been living in Athens Greece for six years, and it was from there that I sent my mother the first gift of white roses as a "Mother's Day" gift. But I sent it on my birthday. In my early twenties, I came to the realization that my birthday was not only about me being born on that day. The special day was also about my mother, who had given me the most wonderful gift of all... life! Here on deviantart its often the case where a noobie will ask a question and another noobie will answer with the very uninspired answer of "practice practice practice." At its core this advice is sound, but the noobie-teacher has just regurgitated what he or she has heard a thousand times over from other would-be noobie-teachers and has not expressed much else. Diligence is the key, but without a direction or goal this diligence might be
