Tipps gegen Mary SuesWas ist überhaupt eine Mary Sue?Tipps gegen Mary Sues1 year ago in Literature Features More Like This

Improving image composition!Sometimes the details of our illustration look great, but then when we step back and look at the composition... it's a little boring or muddy or crowded or our eyes wander away from the parts that looked so good up close... Where are our focal points? Why doesn't this illustration grab my attention and hold it? Composition can make or break a piece. Here are some links that show examples of good and bad compositions and describe why certain layouts are more successful than others. Various tips and rules are described and illustrated. 10 Tips to Improve your ArtThis is a short summary of the – in my opinion – most important points I found all over the internet, while studying what it needs to improve your drawing and painting skills. I hope it will be helpful to many aspiring artists!10 Tips to Improve your Art10 months ago in Art Features More Like This
1. Learn the basics
Perspective, composition, color theory, anatomy, lighting & shading – this may be boring, but it's very important. You have to understand the basics to have a foundation to build on.
Also start with realism. You can simplify it to comics or Manga once you have mastered the fundamentals.
2. Have the right attitude
Don't rely on talent alone. Expensive equipment or an art school won't automatically make your artworks brilliant. Don't expect anyone to teach you, but study on your own. You have to work hard to become a good artist. Don't give up, if you really want it.
3. Start early and have a plan
Start working on your art
Critique is a DialogueCommunication is a collaborative effort.Critique is a Dialogue2 years ago in Literature Features More Like This
Students and teachers, doctors and patients, the UN and member states—no matter how different the backgrounds are, no matter the gap in experience or who's leading the conversation, it's important for communication to succeed. And the only way to do that is by making sure there's always room for a dialogue.
Dialogue: two sides having a conversation together.
Based on the literature community chat we had not too long ago, critique seems to be desirable. This blog is a response to the fact that a number of people mentioned dissatisfaction with a) how much critique they're getting, and/or b) responses to critiques they're providing.
This is about critiquing people you don't know, and who didn't request a Serious Business Full-Length Critique.

Beware of Some Tutorials... This is just my opinion. I have to lead with that. Everyone is free to agree or disagree and disregard.Beware of Some Tutorials...1 year ago in Personal More Like This
I've had loads of people over the past few months ask me to create tutorials.
I never have. I'm not sure when I will, and I'll tell you why. Deviantart is filled to the brim with the most *awful* tutorials. And now that "Tutorials" have a priority category ( meaning they get to the front page every single time regardless of how many hits they get), some users have been creating tutorial after tutorial just to abuse that loop hole.
Thing is, I find a lot of these people who create the tutorials, have no business creating them in the first place o_o;. Some of them ( not all) aren't doing it to be helpful to the masses. Some of them are doing it to try to make one (to see if they can set it up, to see if they can make it interactive), or to see if they can use the exploit. Those people are not helping you.

Resin casting mold advice/help?I want to start making dolls with resin parts but have never used resin or molds before.Resin casting mold advice/help?1 year ago in Personal More Like This
I don't know what kind would be best (recommendations would be awesome), though I am considering the pourable smooth-on.
But the pourable smooth-on says it should not be used with clay that contains sulfur which I believe sculpey has.
Does it cause the mold to not form properly? Or does it just make the resin cloudy? (which doesn't matter as I will be painting it).
Also if you use an armature do you attach it after the resin has set or do you stick in in as its curing?
What's the best way of doing fragile/thin parts?
How do you get a small seam/not noticeable line where the mold was cut?
Any help is appreciated.

Today we will learn how to make smoooth animation! In this tutorial we will cover a basic movement, but sometimes difficult to look natural, jumping.
I am using a pixel black ball as the subject, but really, you can apply this tutorial to anything you want to jump! Like animals and humans (of coarse they would bend their legs instead of squish.;D)! If your animation starts to "trail", or you simply don't know how to animate, you can check out some other tutorials I have made that are linked at the bottom.
Let us begin!
Lets start with the subject. I am using a 13x13 pixel black ball, but you can use anything, even if it isn't pixeled.
Now for the squish! This is the set move to gather energy for the jump. You wouldn't jump straight legged, would you? For my ball, I made it shorter, and expanded it out some on both ends. If your subj

stop wishing, start doing
As usual I had no idea what would be the topic of this journal, but I managed to think about and write down these 5 reasons why we (and I) tend to fail on things we want/have to do and I hope you'll find this journal post helpful.
1. Time management issues.
"I have no time for this", "If only I had the time for that" .. we tend to make these excuses, as if we all wouldn't have the same amount of time every single day. It's how we manage to spend that time, that matters. A lot of us have other important things to do, but let's be honest, if you have the dedication there are really no obstacles in your way. There will never be the perfect time for anything and with proper planning It's easier set the priorities for the right things.
They are everywhere. Especially on the internet. We tend to waste so many hours on checking what's new, reading bl
PE Prose Basics: Pacing ( and Show vs. Tell)Hello, everyone! As you all know, this week over at projecteducate is Prose Basics. We're here to help all you prose writers (whether flash fiction, short stories, or novels) get better at your craft with some basic tips for growth. Today, I'm going to be talking about something you've probably heard about again and again: pacing.PE Prose Basics: Pacing ( and Show vs. Tell)11 months ago in Literature Features More Like This
What is Pacing?
No, it's not what you do when you're stuck on a scene and need to get up and stretch those leg muscles to get your writing juices flowing. It's actually a very important ability that writers have to control the speed their story is read. You as the author get to manipulate the reader in a way and make the speed of the story match the scene. What better way to drop the reader right into the moment? But, pacing also holds the ability to make or break your story and keep or lose your reader's interest. This is why it's so important in writing.

Introduction about making handmade booksINTRODUCTION ABOUT BASIC TOOLS TO MAKE HANDMADE BOOKSIntroduction about making handmade books1 year ago in Art Features More Like This
Today I'd like to share with you some basic tips if you're interested in making handmade books. I've learned how to do that a few terms ago, at the university. As an art restoring adept I've been through the old, traditional ways of making books and added some modern touches to simplify that. I'm going non-professional so far, without expensive equipment, so if you'd like to give books a try you don't have to invest that much
The first and obvious thing that's needed for our book is paper. At that stage you have to decide what kind of book you'd like to make - you need lined or squared paper for notebooks, journals, cookbooks and basically everything that's meant to write in. Sketchbooks and scrapbooks require nice smooth plain paper and photo albums work best with thick and durable paper. Of course those are basics, you can use decorated paper or one suitable for

Art and perfectionismDear, deviantart fellow artistsArt and perfectionism6 months ago in Personal More Like This
Perfectionism can be a good and a bad thing at the same time. We strive for it, but sometimes the result doesn't exceed our expectations. And that's okay.
Not every single artwork you make has to be a masterpiece. Make some sketches, speedpaints, studies - just do something. See your flaws, be aware of them - and work on them. Don't put yourself down with negativity. It never helps. It takes time to learn, to gain new skills and make art. Through many hours of work we achieve what we want. And it takes time.
It's so easy to give up. To think - what's the point in doing this, if the artwork is never perfect. Art doesn't have to be always perfect, it has to be made. We have to get used to the fact that we'll never be good enough - there is a beauty in that, because we have something to strive for, to experience and observe.
Making art is difficult and yet it's fun. En
PE: Story Planning Week!Greetings everyone and welcome to another fun-packed week at projecteducate! This week has been teamed back up with CRLiterature and will be focussing on story planning!PE: Story Planning Week!2 years ago in Literature Features More Like This
What do we mean by “story planning”?
Planning a story sounds like an easy task- even at primary school level you are taught that a story must have a beginning, a middle and an end. However there are plenty of important elements that build a story; a lot of prep work that can actually improve the quality of your novel writing in the long run. This can cover almost anything- from world building, character development, creating past history and plot mapping etc. There is a huge range of elements that can turn your idea into a strong well-structured novel.
Are you going to tell me how to write a novel?
Not exactly. We can’t tell you how to approach your novel and how to write it from chapter 1 through to the end. We’re not giv
