Looking at her beautiful work it became highly motivated to work on ...like classical manga-like pictures, u know what i mean right xD?.
But days later on dA frontpage there was it again, an artwork of sakimichan .
to me, both styles have something i really wanna master. Katsura Hoshino for telling storys, and sakimichans for doing good digital artwork.
But wanting to learn both,i'm afraid of unlearnig one thing while practicing the other.
Since i worked digitally the last weeks, i tried to do something with lineart, and it felt a bit more difficult...maybe i just surmised it, since i'm convinced that practicing in every way is good for everything xD
any how, i wondered if you were ever faced with wanting to learn some style, that is comple

Not a creature was stirring, not even a ghost
I am three thousand miles away from my home
But with all of this joy why feel alone?
The library is closed, the service club's dead,
No movies to play, I am losing my head
A little to drink will bring me some cheer
There is not a joint open to buy one cold beer
All the happy voices I hear in this place
The last two I met fell flat on their face
I can tell they have love for all within sight
Just drop a nickel, you'll see a good fight
It's the same old story time after time
What men will do for only a dime
The guard is walking his post, his arm torn
And cursing the day he ever was born
He thinks of the past and all of the bliss
They told him he'd have if he would enlist
We can't go to sleep when all you hear is a bam
This loveliest Christmas, I don't give a damn
What this all boils down to is simple to say
I am in the U.S. Army and that's all the way
Helpful Habits for CommissionersA lot of people have been asking me to write up something on the topic of taking and pricing commissions like I did with conventions, so here you go!Helpful Habits for Commissioners2 years ago in Personal More Like This
So what is a commission? If you didn't already know, a commission in way I will be discussing is when a person pay for an artist to draw them something. Neato, right? Money for art, couldn't be better.
Well there are a few catches to this art thing professionally and non-professionally; especially on an amateur level. First off, you wont get paid nearly what you should be getting paid...so if your motivation is money... you should pick a different field of interest. Second, you need to build your people skills. Third money management is key. Fourth, time management or cry in a corner.
Let's discuss the first point, not getting paid enough! Illustrators and professional artists in the industry are currently getting paid the same rates as they were 50 years ago... the exact same. Inflation has not touched the art field so we are making less

Of course, most of you already know all there is to know about my artworks, but this is gonna be an easy way to link people to all questions related to my art, and what's better, you ask the questions! Rules for asking questions:
Please refrain from asking me questions about personal life that are too personal. For example, What is your favorite color? is a valid question, whereas Where exactly do you live? is not xD I just like to keep my personal stuff personal.
Dont ask me for tutorials. ah, well, the simple answer is, I will if I can. And surely, in the future, I will. ^_^

The Truth about CommissionsIt's hard to say when someone's overpriced. You look at a price and cringe because it's way out of your budget, but have you ever thought about what you're really paying for? Skill, yes, but also time. The Truth about Commissions3 years ago in Personal More Like This
I just took a good look at my commission prices, and realized that if I were a company, the government would arrest me for slave labor. Think about it this way:
Minimum wage in the United States (where I am) is currently at $7.25 an hour.
Better practice says that for every 4 hours of work, you get a 15 minute break.
Companies are now being demanded to provide benefits for employees, especially under Obamacare.
Now, take a look at this.
My average wage on all my commissions is about $1.44 an hour. My max wage, the full-color full-body picture, comes in at about $3.25 an hour.
When I work on a commission, it's my policy to finish it in one sitting if at all possible. Half the time I don't eve
Advice on drawings for kids? and WIPsHi! So I was asked to entertain a group of 6-8 years old kids, basically by drawing them requests, but I'm not sure what are they interested in.Advice on drawings for kids? and WIPs8 months ago in Personal More Like This
I went to the local mall to find out what's on the rage, but I've only seen Angry Birds, Cars and Ponies (Yes, I live under a rock in the middle of nowhere). Anyway, it helped a little, but I still don't know much, especially in the case of girls. They're not necesarily into ponies. I asked a random girl if she liked MLP and she gave me a frazzled look "No, but my older brother does"... Also, I heard "monster girls" dolls are ok, but aren't they for older girls?
If you know what shows, toys or games are popular among 6-8 years old kids, please help me by commenting below, so I'll have an idea what kids want from me. I'd like to play some recognizable music from the cartoons in the background as well. ^^

Only request is that you ask some relevant questions and not something too personal and inappropriate.
With that said, ask away!

Too expensive, too cheapEdit: Just wanted to add one more thought.Too expensive, too cheap10 months ago in Deviant Events More Like This
Remember that some kids here are just playing. They can either draw for practice and earn nothing or practice by drawing commissions for small amount of money. Even a small gratification like that is a boost for someone who's just starting out and encourage them to get better. I remember when I was starting out, nobody except my two friends would want even a free request from me, so I know the feeling "at least someone out there wants it".
In my opinion teen artists do not pose much threat to professionals who are way faster and more skilled than them. Moreover, they have school and homework, so there is a limited time they can spend on drawing. Am I wrong?
Some complain that artists have too high prices. Surprisingly however, others complain that teen artists ruin the market with their cheap art. People who complain about that often advise to get a real part-time job at McDonald's or something instead of selling art.
But to me this sounds

On depressionYou go to an art website and you see plenty of this. It seems that artists are particularly prone to it, I don't know. Then, there is this depression awareness movement. It's good that it exist, but to be completely honest with you, I've grown tired of hearing about the same thing all over again, and also that the elaborate depression guides are lacking an important detail. Important to me, anyway. On depression3 months ago in Deviant Events More Like This
You've had some shit in your life, but is it always all about what people do and say to you? I think it isn't. Maybe the reason you have depression is because you have an incurable disease or cancer, or both and you don't know it yet. These things can go unnoticed for years. Maybe you're just too busy to notice, and you'd rather blame your stressful life, because we tend to go for the easiest explanations.
I wonder why the depression awareness movement, these pages and info-graphics never advise getting physical exam and tests done? Just to rule the physical disease out at least, you know?
An ObservationIt's really funny to me the interactions I have with people in varying environments and the different reactions I receive from people based on their perceptions. Take for instance Deviantart, which I find most interesting. Some of you create an entire persona for me based on my art style, skill level, number of page views, and watcher count. I know for a fact that there are some of you who have the misconception that I believe I am above common folk and the very air I walk on is blessed. Some people also think I'm very cool and talented and you wish you could be me. Little do you know I am the biggest dork to have ever graced this planet, second only to the dorkiest of dorks Bella. True I do not respond to every comment, but I try to respond to the comments that aren't one of the following: "Cute!" "Love it!" "Awesome Work!". DONT GET ME WRONG THOSE COMMENTS STILL MAKE ME SMILE LIKE A PUPPY WITH A NEW BONE TO CHEW! However, all I can really say to them is "Thanks!". HOW TO FEEL FULFILLED AS AN ARTIST"When you buy from an independent artist you are buying more than just a painting or a novel or a song. You are buying hundreds of hours of experimentation and thousands of failures. You are buying days, weeks, months, years of frustration and moments of pure joy. You are buying nights of worry about paying the rent, having enough money to eat, having enough money to feed the children, the birds, ...the dog. You aren't just buying a thing - you are buying a piece of heart, part of a soul, a private moment in someone's life. Most importantly, you are buying that artist more time to do something they are truly passionate about; something that makes all of the above worth the fear and doubt; something that puts the life into living." - Rebekah Joy PlettHOW TO FEEL FULFILLED AS AN ARTIST3 years ago in Personal More Like This

Some PeopleLol my friend just showed me this string of tumblr posts about this artist ranting over one of her commissioners and I just kinda lost it. Seriously, an artist complaining about her commissioners shouldn't get commissions. That person commissioning you is your fan, not just your fan, a REALLY BIG fan willing to pay you to draw. There are a thousand million other artists but they chose you. Some People2 years ago in Personal More Like This
To me a commission is the biggest compliment ever. Some one likes my art well enough they are willing to pay me to do what I love. I don't care if I have the pickest, most complaining, whiniest commissioner ever. The fact they wanted my artwork is good enough for me to tolerate any level of shit. Sure more difficult commissioners who want a thousand changes I might charge extra for the extra work but I sure as hell am going to be polite and kind to them! I would never complain about them openly.

Animation/Art/Career/etc. Q and A?I've been working since graduating more than 4 years now, and I've improved a lot over these years. It's a very different environment from college to professional studio work. I have friends that graduated same year as me but some quit animation entirely and some are still trying to find an entry level job. I flew out to LA from NYC 1 month after graduating, for an internship at Titmouse, when there were merely 20-ish people around. I was hired after two months of testing, and my first job was a clean-up artist/animation in betweenner.Animation/Art/Career/etc. Q and A?3 years ago in Personal More Like This
a little side story, I signed up for "animation" major thinking it's 3d for game cinematics, and it turned out to be on paper, stayed 4 years, 3d seemed pretty technical as to learning the programs and know how to use it. Drawing is more... fun... and direct. Then I watched animation films like Ghost in the Shell, Jin Roh, Ninja Scroll... etc.
If anyone would like to ask any animation related questions pls comment below and I'd be happy to answer them.
