You ever get mad at your fandom?Well… in my case, not mad, but more… perplexed? You ever get mad at your fandom?1 year ago in Personal More Like This
I normally don't post stuff like this, but I think it's actually very important. This is in regards to this post that has the original posting http://kitsuneverse.blogspot.com/2012/11/cosplaytony-harris-rants-on-female.html. (Very interesting points from the responder, kistuneverse!)
I've seen a huge backlash against Harris, but also a backlash against guys in general in the fandom. I don't think it helps anyone if we categorize fanboys as a collective. Not all guys/fanboys/geeks/nerds/casual observers are the same, and casually lumping them together seems counterproductive.
I mean, it's awesome that we're talking about this notion against the female side of the fandom, as it does exist and does needs recognition, but talking to these fanboys as if they're a singular entity is exactly what that Tony Harris dude is doing in regards to female cosplayers and the female fandom in general. If you, male or female, actually believe that he speak
Background TipsHey all! I've gotten a few people asking me about advice for drawing backgrounds. So instead of being a true gentleman and writing each person back separately, I figure it's easier to tackle this with an nice, impersonal journal post! Maybe one day I'll shoot a tutorial or something to actually demonstrate what I'm talking about, but for now a quick list will have to do.Background Tips3 years ago in Personal More Like This
*Before I start, a quick disclaimerby no means do I have "it" figured out. My opinions on backgrounds and how to tackle them are always changing. And a lot of what I think is based on the artists on whose shoulders I stand upon. Feel free to disagree with any of this.
Remember those point-and-click adventure games from the 90s? I loved those games! Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis, Flashback, Full Throttle, Space Quest, Hero Questadventure games blew me away by how beautiful, imaginative and expansi
Need references?Although drawing and painting "from life" is way much more effective and efficient than drawing from photos (I'll be writting a separate journal about this soon, no worries), you simply can't have a person to model for you every time you want to create something. And there are situations when you don't exactly know how to place that bloody hand or if the foot is drawn correctly. Similiar issues can happen with architecture, perspective... with everything you draw. Then, when you look for help, you may stumble upon Stock gallery and you find awesome things. Remember about crediting the used stock directly!Need references?1 year ago in Art Features More Like This

An excellent set of Manga Studio 4 tutorials, ranging from the Debut to the EX version. Brought to you by Doug Hills in conjunction with Smith Micro. Bookmark on YouTube.
This series is good because the speaker is articulate, and the actions on the screen follow commands. It is difficult to find quality tutorials that are not merely process pieces or showcasing artwork, but this set goes above and beyond -- it actually focuses on the tools of the program and illustrates how they can be applied! Enjoy, and make sure to thank him on his video pages!

Tutorial and Inspiration MasterPostWell, some weeks ago when I posted my Journal Ten Years of Drawing, :iconSyalice: asked me in the comment what my fave tutorials were for composition and other things like that.Tutorial and Inspiration MasterPost2 months ago in Personal More Like This
So I thought I was just going to do a giant tutorial masterpost.
Also, on sidenote, I GOT MY NEW TABLET, LIFE IS AWESOME. I wanted to do a giveaway with my previous one, but only five minutes after I unpacked the new tablet, my little brother just waltzed in and asked if he could take the old one. I must say, I wasn't too happy with that, because he isn't really drawing seriously and I thought there were people who would need it more, but my mother thought it was a very good idea indeed and so I had to give it to him. There goes that, then.
So, Tutorials !

"I want to be a better artist."This is a sentiment I hear often on dA. It's usually followed by a question regarding how one should go ABOUT becoming a better artist."I want to be a better artist."3 years ago in Personal More Like This
I've no doubt made journals like this in the past, but here's another one. This page was in dire need of an update, either way. : )
I could probably talk your ear off for a mile and a half about why I should be the last person you ask for creativity-boosting advice. Aaaand I have my reasons for this, but that's not really what anyone who writes me wants to hear, I think. It's just a fair warning. I'm not an accredited teacher, I was far from the most capable person at my college, I've made a metric crapton of mistakes, and I am nowhere near where I'd like to be in my own personal artistic endeavors. If that doesn't bother you, well, keep on reading!
The best way I could aid anyone interested in bettering themselves would probably be by giving you the advice that inspires me the most. Stuff I've heard from frie

welcome to my f.a.q! since i get a looooot of questions via deviantart and e-mail i've deemed it necessary to write this up, to save time but also give people the information they want in a quick and easy way. this f.a.q is the same one as on loish.net, except with some additional information specifically intended for deviantart. since it is a lot of information i've divided the f.a.q into categories, here is an overview:

Tutorial.Okay, here it is! My Video Tutorial. It's not too long, around 30 minutes of time lapse with me chatting / trying to give advice / effing rambling! Hopefully I don't sound like too much of an idiot >_> The time lapse is of the painting that I continued to work on (through livestream). It's in HD so the quality is quite nice. The tutorial doesn't go through to the end of the painting. It just covers the way I paint, if you want to watch more of it, the rest of the painting is available to watch on demand through my Livestream channel. I'm not sure how helpful my attempt at a tutorial is, but hopefully it'll answer some of the questions I get!Tutorial.4 years ago in Personal More Like This

Why Helvetica is not greatWhy Helvetica is not greatWhy Helvetica is not great10 months ago in Art Features More Like This
Type design is a rather obscure profession but even the typefaces themselves don’t get too much attention by the general public. Most people could only name a few typefaces, but among those few are always Times New Roman, Arial and Helvetica. Well-known and popular or not, in this article I will show you why Helvetica is not the great typeface people perceive it to be.
Arial is often frowned upon due to its history, but what most people don’t know is that Helvetica has a very similar history. A bit different, but as far as I’m concerned it’s just as dubious and embarrassing. As most people who are interested in typefaces might know, Max Miedinger is the designer of Helvetica. However, what most people probably don’t know is that Max Miedinger was not a type designer. Miedinger st

Secondly, I apologize for this late installment of the article. I've got a long list of excuses, but I'm sure you would much rather read about how to create an interesting fashion pose, so I will move on. Please expect the future articles to continue on time
This month’s article is about the “fashion pose.” One of the aspects of fashion illustration is to make it interesting, and the pose of the model can help with that.
Below I have outlined some basic features of an interesting pose, but please be aware that there are no real rules.
The Plumb Line
Any model, or really anything that you draw should have a “plumb line” that creates the balance for the object. The plumb line is a straight line drawn from a cen
Art History - Anthro Anthro Art - The BeginningArt History - Anthro2 years ago in Art Features More Like This
Anthropomorphism is the attribution of human characteristics and qualities to non-human beings, objects, natural, or supernatural phenomena. Gods, animals, the forces of nature, and unseen or unknown authors of chance are frequent subjects of anthropomorphosis. The term comes from two Greek words, άνθρωπος (anthrōpos), meaning "human," and μορφή (morphē), meaning "shape" or "form." The suffix "-ism" originates from the morpheme "-isma" in the Greek language. .
The actual 'date' when Anthropomorphic art came to light isn't well documented so we can only go off what has been left behind for us to observe. This is most noted in literature, sculptures and fables.
From the beginnings of human behavioral modernity in the Upper Paleolithic, about 40,000 years ago, examples of zoomorphic (animal

How to become a better artist (Kind of tutorial)Hello there, my friends!:3How to become a better artist (Kind of tutorial)1 year ago in Personal More Like This
I wanted to write this, because I felt like doing it. A lot of people seem to see me as their idol (after what they
told to me) and asked me how I became this 'good'. (I don't consider myself as good though.xD)
A lot of people say I got a lot of talent, but it isn't the talent what makes someone good in drawing or good
in singing. The talent is only a little percent, but the most important part in becoming better is practice.
Everybody can be good, if they draw, write or sing a lot. Hell, even I could be good at maths if I only would
This isn't going to be a tutorial how you sing better, how you can draw better or what makes your art looks better.
So what could this be about? Even if I'm still practicing I already noticed how you can become a better artist.
So I will share my thoughts with you.
Art is about feelings. A lot of people put their feelings in their art, and this gives the art it's soul.
Of course, if you draw something, it will a look

Want to learn some german?:3 - The basicsHello there!^w^Want to learn some german?:3 - The basics11 months ago in Personal More Like This
I was bored...so I thought, since a lot of people seem to like Germany, I would like to share some germans words with you!:3
First, in germany exist three 'articles'. In the english language is only one, 'the'.
In germany the articles are 'Die' (feminine), 'Der' (masculine) and 'Das', neutral.
A lot of those articles don't make sense for the words there are used to..xD (For example it is: 'Die' Sonne (the Sun). But actually the Sun is a thing, and not feminine. ) This will be very confusing to learn. ; ;
So I will teach you some basics, and how you pronounce it. :3
Guten Morgen - Good morning [Gootan Morgan]
Guten Abend - Good evening [Gootan Ahband]
Wie geht es dir? - How are you? [Wee gayht es dihr?]
Mir geht es gut! - I'm fine! [Meer gayht es goht]
Mir geht es nicht so gut. - I don't feel very good. [Meer gayht es nisht/nicht sow goht.]
And there comes the CH (nicht.) I noticed this is very, very difficult to pronounce for people outside germany. But german people c
